5th Anniversary, blog, blog history, blogging, perrinlovett.me, Thank You

Born of fire. It was a blazingly hot summer day, five years ago, when I first penned this quick little intro blurb:

nimbus-image-1498304058931

An inauspicious start if ever…

I mean it was hot, like 104 hot. Four days later, I got around to a real posting: The Shared Responsibility TAX: ObamaCare a hit with the Supremes…

nimbus-image-1498304342566

It was still hot as Hades – I even noted that in the first sentence. Today, it’s not so bad. Yesterday, was more like it; I undertook the first heavy outdoor activity of the year, and I picked the first near-100 degree day to do it. Got it now: yard work in the cool; blog in the heat. Or is that backwards? Heatstroke typing…

ObamaCare has been a recurrent sub-theme over the years. The title has shifted to TrumpCare, or GOPCare, or WhoCares, or something; the problems remain. The first problem is the sheer stupidity and criminal neglect of Washington. Yesterday, Rand Paul (not his father, but all we have left) interjected a little sanity into the malaise: Rand Paul: Insurance should be available for $1 a day.

I’m not entirely sure anything can be had for $1 per day but I like the concept. What he’s talking about would require a renaissance in insurance and medical coverage. It’s happening here and there, naturally, on the medical front. The insurance business racket is another story. As Rand points out, the main purpose of the old law seems to be to stabilize insurance syndicate profits.

But, please, I babble – perhaps the most common feature of the site. That’s not what we’re here for today, is it?

FIVE YEARS

And, thank you so very much! When I started I really had no idea what I was doing. I’m proud of my consistency in that regard… But it seems to work. There’s been massive growth, month over month, and year over year – all thanks to you. And “You” is a big, broad group. Primarily a US-centric endeavor, with vast Western defensive leanings, I manage to reach people in some 130 or so countries.

The top nine for 2017 so far:

nimbus-image-1498305225874

For perspective: I’ve had more traffic this week, a slow one, than I had in all of 2012. Consistency plays a part in that; for a while, there was none.

In June of 2012 I rattled off the above two posts. Then there was silence. In February of 2013 I resumed the labor and piped away, periodically, until September. Then came more silence. A jabbering or two in June and July, 2014. More silence. In January, 2015, on the advice of a friend, I commenced persistent work. This month makes 30 months in a row. I’ve now had at least one article or post per day for over a year.

And, as I always say, I’m just getting started. There’s always more and better to come, just around the corner. Stay tuned.

As a thank you for your devoted and loyal readership, I procured some balloons.

Happy birthday, little website. Thank you, dear readers, one and all, and please hurry back.

Happy June! And thank you for helping make last month the best May in blog history.

The site’s fifth anniversary is just around the corner. I’m planning a little digital party and you happen to be invited. (No RSVP required).

And I just completed the first of several big summer road trips. (I declare that summer is here, now). Had a great time, thanks. A few things….

A. The drive was not-so-bad but could have been better. People, please re-acquaint yourselves with the art of driving a darned car. I did not encounter much of the idiocy I normally find across the two larger Southern states but I did see room for improvement.

B. Plan B. The next ten years or so should hold an inordinate amount of road travel for old Perrin. Or just travel. If you (not YOU, but others in general) refuse to learn to merge, speed up, not text, signal, etc., then I have a counter-plan.

This weekend I paid a little visit to my new friends at Atlas Aviation at TPF. I’ve made it a goal to complete something I started 20 years ago. I hope to have, by the time the sixth anniversary rolls around, at least a Sport License.

Atlas.

If and when that happens, you are free to slowly limp and weave down 75 in any manner you like; I’ll look and laugh from above, somewhere below 180 but nowhere near the mayhem.

Now, on with the summer time.

As we close out 2016, here’s a look back at a few posts from the last 12 months. I’ve done nearly 600 this year alone. Some were excellent. Others were … a little less. Some I thought would be hits, flopped. Some came out of nowhere and surprised me. A little blog history:

January. Half Day Snow Day.

February. The Old Man’s Guide to the Gym.

March. Death at the Academy.

April. A Den of Vipers and Thieves.

May. FDA ASSAULTS CIGAR INDUSTRY.

June. The Battle of Orlando – connected to – My Name is I Pledge of Allegiance…

July. Death of a Facebook Friend. This might have been my highest trafficked article of the year, at least by initial views. And just something I wrote on a whim.

August. Come Out of the Churches, Thou Unclean Spirits.

September. Mapping The Real Vote.

October. The Time I Met Reagan.

November. Ohio State Terrorist Attack Highlights Need For Guns On Campus.

December. Maybe The Russians Are Not THEIR Friends.

And that should be a wrap for 2016.

rtss

Next year will be fantastic. See you then.

No. 801: The Top 1%

Last night’s Great All American High School Football Friday Night Shotgun Raffle was my 800th post here. I forgot that amid the excitement of the evening.

nimbus-image-1476701538323

This weekend I refrained from any criticism of President Obama due to his recent contributions to the cigar world. I suppose all is fair once again though I still thank him. I’ll dedicate that first legal Cuban to his honor.

So, this is post no. 801. I have the SEO skills of a drunken sea otter but I think volume has something to do with it; if we can’t have quality, we’ll have a ton of rambling and such. Seems to be working, whatever it is. I checked my web ranking and I have crossed the threshold into the top 1% of all websites on Earth (over a billion active sites). Technically the traffic is higher than 99.35+% of the web. I think I’ve improved by something like 23,000,000 slots in the past three months – all thanks to you folks.

That’s great. Yet I would like to gun for the top 1% of the top 1%. That’s possible. Maybe in a year or two. I write for some other sites that are pushing closer to that range right now. That in turn pushes my site to a small degree. And, I’m finding that some of that outside work is now being cited by third parties. Every little helps.

SEO or not somehow the word is spreading. Web engine searches lead people here. I mentioned Ivan Throne’s excellent new book the other week and, this weekend, he acknowledged. I’ve promised him a full review here soon – as soon as I finish the book.

And soon I’m going to upgrade to full pro status with WP. For you that should mean more and better, etc.

Thank you and happy Monday! Go to work.

September to Remember

A few blogging updates about last month.

This site is in its fifth calendar year. I’ve only posted in three Septembers (2013, 2015, 2016). 2013 only saw one measly post. 2015 was a decent month with thirteen posts and good enough traffic. Last month was on fire, the heaviest trafficked month in history, with a near 20% increase over August (itself the previous record). In the first nine months of this year I’ve exceeded all of 2015 by almost 40% – I’m on pace to more than double traffic from last year and possibly outperform all previous years combined.

An International Presence

This is a quintessential American/Western site though I did have September visitors from 36 countries. The top five, accounting for 97% of visitors were: the U.S., U.K., Honduras, Canada, and Germany.

The Top Posts Of Sept.

Fifteen Years Ago – my recollection of 9/11.

Cigars Are Healthy – medical vindication of my hobby.

A Tale of Two Charlotteans – when the society slides, guns keep the peace.

By the way, the most popular post of all-time is Gunning For Votes (Sept., 2015) followed closely by Democracy in America (May, 2015). I’d pick Democracy out of those two though it’s still not my favorite.

Who Are Y’all

After four years I’m finally building up some regular followers here – I add 1 – 2 per day. Thanks, peeps!

Additionally, I get a healthy clickage from: Facebook, the prepping community (welcome again!), and Linkedin. I also see an increase in Google and other engine-direct traffic. I have the SEO skills of a drunk wharf-rat but something seems to be working.

_20161002_084728

perrinlovett.me is like a giant caterpillar – green and sure to eat all the peppers…

I said a little over a week ago I was redefining what makes a “good” day here. Wouldn’t you know it, that triggered Murphy’s Law. With the exception of last Sunday, it’s been a struggle and the new daily average has been just shy of the new mark. Growing pains.

Anyway, this is number 768. Fall is here. It’s October. This is my favorite season and I’m ready to roll!

Thanks, again.

This evening I hit the nutsedge and the clovery stalk-thing weeds in the yard.  It’s a horticultural genocide… All the rain and sun have done wonders for the lawn and soon the last of the pesky unwanteds will be displaced by green, green grass.  Hooray!  I live a simple life…

This has been a record-setting week so far and today was the highest rated day in blog history!!!!  Today was not a geometric increase but it was off the charts.  I think it was about a 30% increase over the previous best.

balloons

(Party time!)

I thank all of you for your interest and dedication to the best and most “dangerous foolishness” on the web.  Step up the on-site comments, folks.  Don’t be afraid.  I approve just about anything, even if it labels me (or Alex Jones) as “dangerous nuts.”  I love comments – it means you’re involved.

Remember to stop by tomorrow for the special column on Waco, 20 years after.  Yes, it has been two whole decades.

The News:

Two of the dudes pictured by the press and presented as possible bombing suspects have come forth to clear their names.  One is a 17-year-old high school student.  Clearing your name can be done on Facebook or Good Morning America (or here).  Don’t talk to the cops like this kid did today.  They never say, “Gee thanks, pal!  We’re all done with you!”  Silence is golden.

This afternoon the FBI came forth with video and pics of two more men.  The Feds say they have “good confidence” these are the suspects, 1 and 2.  Here they are:

suspects bmb

(CBS News.  FBI.)

You’ll notice they appear to walk the same way aaaaaand…. they white!  Domestic agenda perhaps.  However, Domestic SS Minister Napolitano says they are not suspects “under technical terms…”  Huh?  What terms then, patsys??

FBI special agent Richard DesLauriers warned the public not to take action into their own hands.  Naturally.  Apprehending real terrorists would leave the FBI obsolete – leave it to Big Brother.  Also, attacking, killing, or kidnapping innocent men would be illegal.  They have to cover all the bases.  No word yet about those Seal-looking Craft men with the Inspector brand radiation detectors.  You might want to leave them alone for your own safety’s sake.

In other news – the assault on the Second Amendment has been beaten back for now.  Just remember, these people do not ever stop.  They’re like Terminator units, virtually unstoppable.  As is, Dirty Harry Reid has removed the universal background check foolishness from the floor for now.  I imagine it will re-emerge, maybe as a rider on a bill to ban pressure cookers.  By the way, I lost the exact number but FBI statistics show that only something like .03% of normal (UnConstitutional) gun checks find disqualifying criminal histories.  That means 99%+ of us are subjected to stupid paperwork and hassle for nothing.

Anyhow, as a result of their outstanding Congressional work, I wrote my Senators a heart-felt thank you.  Here is the body of the letter(s):

******

Dear Senator:

Thank you so very much for you vote against the illegal, anti-Second Amendment legislation yesterday.  You have proved yourself a champion of Liberty!

Your vote was a far better response than any other to my letter last week.

However, as noted in that letter, we still have much work to do.  I look forward to you leading the charge to remove the existing illegal gun laws from existence.  I will be happy to help as needed.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Perrin Lovett

*******

It’s important to acknowledge when someone does a good job.  Write or call your pro-freedom representatives and let them know you care.  Schedule permitting, I may launch a grass-roots initiative to get those existing laws off the books.  The grabbers always seem to have us on the defensive.  Maybe it’s time we turned the tables.

That’s all for now.  Thanks again for the views, reads, and comments.  Check back in the AM!  Or PM…
