Last night’s Great All American High School Football Friday Night Shotgun Raffle was my 800th post here. I forgot that amid the excitement of the evening.

nimbus-image-1476701538323

This weekend I refrained from any criticism of President Obama due to his recent contributions to the cigar world. I suppose all is fair once again though I still thank him. I’ll dedicate that first legal Cuban to his honor.

So, this is post no. 801. I have the SEO skills of a drunken sea otter but I think volume has something to do with it; if we can’t have quality, we’ll have a ton of rambling and such. Seems to be working, whatever it is. I checked my web ranking and I have crossed the threshold into the top 1% of all websites on Earth (over a billion active sites). Technically the traffic is higher than 99.35+% of the web. I think I’ve improved by something like 23,000,000 slots in the past three months – all thanks to you folks.

That’s great. Yet I would like to gun for the top 1% of the top 1%. That’s possible. Maybe in a year or two. I write for some other sites that are pushing closer to that range right now. That in turn pushes my site to a small degree. And, I’m finding that some of that outside work is now being cited by third parties. Every little helps.

SEO or not somehow the word is spreading. Web engine searches lead people here. I mentioned Ivan Throne’s excellent new book the other week and, this weekend, he acknowledged. I’ve promised him a full review here soon – as soon as I finish the book.

And soon I’m going to upgrade to full pro status with WP. For you that should mean more and better, etc.

Thank you and happy Monday! Go to work.

Ah, deadlift, my old friend.

The good news is I offed those pesky pounds I fretted about last week. Water, I suppose. And they took another one more with them. 174 pounds at 5′ 10″. That equates to a “normal” BMI of 25. That number means little. This one counts for a little more:

405

That’s the really good news. Still stumbling into my strength program and recently returned to deadlifting, I pulled 405 this morning. Twice. Two reps. Consecutively. Non-stop.

nimbus-image-1476289090798

I’d like elite. I’ll settle for advanced for now. By the way, 86% of y’all are weak.

Now, the bad news: I also pulled my back, and my legs, and I think I pulled my knees, if that’s possible.

This blog, and all other work, may continue from bed. Horizontal typing. Hmmm.

Stay strong!

Mary Jane’s Athenian Pot Party

As sad as it seems I graduated from college nearly 20 years ago. A little education and a lot of experiences. This story involves one of the latter. It is such ancient history that any parts I have forgotten will be creatively embellished for a seamless narrative.

We’ll say it was 1994. Back then I was a right-leaning “conservative”, one of millions about to be suckered in by the Contract ON America. (Remember that?) I still listened to Rush Limbaugh who, at the time, was still entertaining. Per my stance against joining I had never affiliated with any political party.

The previous year I attended one debate between the campus Republicans and Democrats. I should say “debate” because it wasn’t. All I saw were two sides of the same coin arguing over which one was uglier. I being new, they asked me for my opinion once the show was over and I told them something similar to the previous sentence and left. I never went back.

That next year I found myself still interested in political comradery. A decent, seemingly informed classmate told me about the UGA Libertarians and implied I should visit a meeting. I knew my views were much more inclined to those of the LP than the GOP but I saw the former as too weak to make a difference. They still have the same problem. But, then, I decided to plunge in and take a look.

I don’t even remember what season or quarter it was but it seems like the event was held in the evening. (Maybe it was 4:20…) Intrepidly I ventured to the Tate Student Center, home of the pool tables and the corn-dog. I reported, as instructed, to room 107.

There I waited patiently as the room filled up. It filled with women. I was the only man present. Oddly, I didn’t feel all that lucky. These women were pleasant enough. There was a semi-wide variety. Some were overtly attractive. Most wore black and all of them exuded a strangeness that, at the time, I couldn’t comprehend.

Their leader arrived and commenced some sort of weird, hypnotic, arms-waving chant. The group responded in like fashion. I grew slightly nervous. I asked the black-clad, chanting young lady beside me if this was the UGA LP. She said, “No, sweetie. We’re the UGA Witches. This is room 107. You want 207.” Not wanting to be turned into a frog or something, I excused myself politely.

On my way up the stairs something told me to abandon the night. Somewhere in Athens a beer was waiting for me. I shook it off. I was no quitter. Liberty needed me. Uggghhh…

In room 207 I found a gathering crowd of pleasant, normal-looking, seemingly okay people. No chanting. No black. I confirmed with the first man I saw that this was in fact the campus chapter of the LP. I took a seat near the middle of one side of the large table which occupied the room’s center.

Very soon thereafter a large group was present. I still detected no unusual activity and I began to relax. That beer could wait.

The president or chairman or whatever took his place at the head of the table. He called the meeting to order, made some perfunctory remarks, and welcomed any newbies. Very orderly, efficient and polite. I felt genuinely welcome.

He then said the best way to kick off the affair was to have everyone state the main issue which attracted them to the LP. He started; his issue was the legalization of marijuana. The comments moved clockwise, to his left and towards me. By coincidence the next person’s main issue was marijuana. As was the next’s. And the next’s. Pot, pot, pot, pot, green, and weed.

The process came to me and I, looking around thoughtfully, said that I thought Americans paid too much in taxes. Taxes, I said, should be cut – dramatically. These remarks caused a stir in the room with many heads nodding affirmatively. In fact, the dude to my left, next in the rotation, acknowledged my sentiments. He said that if taxes were cut, then we would all have more money to buy pot. Pot was his central issue. The discussion rounded the table.

Pot, pot, reefer, green, pot, weed, pot, pot, MJ, pot, whacky-tobacky, pot… At last the floor again belonged to the leader. He seemed pleased with the direction of the discussion and avowed to keep it going. We should all, he said, explain our second issue of attraction. His was still marijuana. Pot, pot, pot, pot, pot and back to me.

Now, somewhat flustered, I thought hard. At the time I really didn’t care one way or the other about pot. I still don’t. Yes, I agree it should be legal. I had no problem with the opinions of my fellows, only with their redundancy. I thought for a second and said, “I like guns.”

More murmuring and many a nodding head. The man next to me became animated with delight. He declared that they had long needed “this guy”, meaning me. He said we would definitely need guns in order to protect our … pot…

Pot, pot, pot, pot, pot, pot …

I then knew this was an exercise in the futile. I asked the animated character to my left where the restroom was. He got even more excited. Leaning in, with a half-crazed look in his glazed eyes, he asked, “You going to smoke a joint?”

No I said. Gotta…number two. Big. One… I … I have to run. And I did.

I left and headed downtown. I did use the restroom – at a bar, though mainly to ask the mirror what the hell I had just been through. The beer and I finally connected. It turned out to be a good night.

And that was my defining experience with the LP. And with the witches of America.

nimbus-image-1475844515131

I still like and admire the Libertarians. Thereafter I went on to (lazily) support Harry Browne’s 2000 presidential campaign. He, you might recall, did not make it. I also paid for a dinner for a Georgia LP congressional candidate and his senior staff. He also failed to win office.

I no longer associate with politicians (or witches) – at least not in the formal, supportive sense. As I noted yesterday, the Pot Party is still the party of pot. Whatever else they may be, they are consistent on that issue.

They still want to toke and I still like guns. There is a constant in the universe.

Happy Friday, all.

Recuperative Exercise: What To Do When When You’re Black And Blue

Nothing. The safe answer is “nothing.”

Yesterday I was at a cross-roads. My gym schedule was disrupted to the point of a reset. I had a choice to make. Was it a legs day, a chest day, arms, or something else? I narrowed it down to legs or back/shoulders. My problem then was that I wasn’t digging any of it. My cardio (dirty boxing and violence) has been going swimmingly. But between that and the lifting of generous quantities of iron, I had kicked my own butt.

So, I skipped the gym entirely, smoked a cigar and went for a walk. Best routine in weeks, that was. I slept better for it.

Lately I’ve been sluggish. I think I’ve even mentioned it here. Weak, irritable and unproductive even beyond my usual laziness. Why?

I spent most of the year getting rid of excess flab – shedding 24 pounds in the process. My intent, once trimmed, was to beef up a little. “Cut” and “bulk” they call it. The bulking is followed as needed by another cutting.

Anyway, I was starting on a half hearted power program. No results yet to speak of. I gained 3 pounds but that could be water or a little fall cushioning (gotta watch that). Where was I…

Yes. A summer I spent cutting and conditioning and suddenly I ramped up the weights, rather carelessly. I’m a small time believer in “no pain, no gain” but I seemed to have reached the point where the pains aren’t so small time. I have a couple of nagging injuries that keep getting aggravated. And it’s aggravating me.

Today I did – or started – what I thought would be a light workout. It was going to be a general upper-body tune up. Three sets of bench-presses and I had a sharp pain. One sharp one in addition to the naggers. For once I actually listened to my body and backed off. Another cigar and another stroll in the woods. I also made use of one of my several compression cast things. It seems to be working.

For the short interim I’m going to monitor the diet, ease off the heavy stuff and recover. Sometimes that’s the best course of action.

And that’s the point of this admittedly rambling post – take it easy:

  • Don’t shift programs until you’re sure you know what you’re doing;
  • Don’t beat yourself into oblivion;
  • When in doubt, take a break;
  • In the scheme of health and weight control, diet is maybe 2% more important than exercise – use that 2% when you need to;
  • Wear an air compression cast thingy in public – the ladies love it..;
  • Eat your greens, get sleep, drink water and just say “no” – all that good stuff;
  • Skip VP debates on TV;
  • Mostly importantly, listen to your body. It will tell you what to do if you listen.

I hope this resonates with at least one of you. I’m always here (physically at least) to help.

img_20160626_132729738-edited

Dr. Perrin says, “Take two breaks, skip the debates, and don’t ever call me again.”

By the way, you can help me too! If you happen to be an extraordinarily attractive woman with stronger hands, questionable morals, and a massage license (or not), I could use your (free) help. The cast thingy needs help… I’d like a free, deep tissue massage…for free… If you fit these exacting requirements and operate anywhere between Columbia, SC and Tampa, FL, please let me know. The world will thank you.

And, thank you, good people, for enduring this one…

The Football Verdict Is In

America, football, Perrin Lovett, society

After years of questioning my allegiance to this increasingly alien cultural spectacle and after six weeks of methodical evaluation I am cutting my fan participation with the NFL and the NCAA.

Among my reasons, I find that organized football has become, among other things:

Anti-American;

Anti-Western;

Anti-Christian;

Anti-free speech (unless it’s subversive speech);

Anti-masculine; and even

Anti-fun.

The slow, boring, ruled-plagued, and ultra-politically correct games do several terrible cultural things. They allow for constant display of debasement even to the openly Satanic. They promote the literally worship of false idols, of the worst sort conceivable. And they promote abject laziness, idiocy and apathy. They have become beyond useless.

A few of you might recall my abandonment of baseball in the summer of 1994. This move is similar though for more profound reasons. However, as with baseball and like a good hypocrite, I reserve the right to occasionally partake in special circumstances (i.e. the Patriots next Superbowl run).

Millions of Americans are rejecting the NFL and with good reason. I’m not asking anyone to join the flight. I’m just saying it is a dead sport fit only for a dead society. I prefer a more viable pastime.

If you agree, then rid yourselves of this toxic sub-culture. I explored hockey as a possible replacement sport. That, I think, is not going to happen. My decision, here, has an added benefit – with the exception of a rare golf tournament I now have no reason whatsoever to look at anything on television. Freedom and peace.

74acf-che1

And this. I no longer wish to associate with this.

I would suggest former fans use their time for personal betterment. Go to the gym. Run. Box. Hunt. Anything so long as it is physical and personal. 70% of Americans have the physical appearance of bloated zombie jellyfish. Watching sports on TV, and water-down sports at that, doesn’t cut it. Rather than watching dim-witted heathens and rapists prance around wearing pink while giving you the finger, do something for yourselves.

Or not. Your call.

The game used to be fun and noble. It is no longer. Goodbye and good riddance.

A few blogging updates about last month.

This site is in its fifth calendar year. I’ve only posted in three Septembers (2013, 2015, 2016). 2013 only saw one measly post. 2015 was a decent month with thirteen posts and good enough traffic. Last month was on fire, the heaviest trafficked month in history, with a near 20% increase over August (itself the previous record). In the first nine months of this year I’ve exceeded all of 2015 by almost 40% – I’m on pace to more than double traffic from last year and possibly outperform all previous years combined.

An International Presence

This is a quintessential American/Western site though I did have September visitors from 36 countries. The top five, accounting for 97% of visitors were: the U.S., U.K., Honduras, Canada, and Germany.

The Top Posts Of Sept.

Fifteen Years Ago – my recollection of 9/11.

Cigars Are Healthy – medical vindication of my hobby.

A Tale of Two Charlotteans – when the society slides, guns keep the peace.

By the way, the most popular post of all-time is Gunning For Votes (Sept., 2015) followed closely by Democracy in America (May, 2015). I’d pick Democracy out of those two though it’s still not my favorite.

Who Are Y’all

After four years I’m finally building up some regular followers here – I add 1 – 2 per day. Thanks, peeps!

Additionally, I get a healthy clickage from: Facebook, the prepping community (welcome again!), and Linkedin. I also see an increase in Google and other engine-direct traffic. I have the SEO skills of a drunk wharf-rat but something seems to be working.

_20161002_084728

perrinlovett.me is like a giant caterpillar – green and sure to eat all the peppers…

I said a little over a week ago I was redefining what makes a “good” day here. Wouldn’t you know it, that triggered Murphy’s Law. With the exception of last Sunday, it’s been a struggle and the new daily average has been just shy of the new mark. Growing pains.

Anyway, this is number 768. Fall is here. It’s October. This is my favorite season and I’m ready to roll!

Thanks, again.

A while back I wrote about how well the old blog is doing. It was great. Now it’s starting to almost scare me. Thanks to all my old readers and, again, welcome to my newbies.

I have consistently hit what I consider good daily traffic for more than 30 days in a row now. (That means at least 2 views per day, 3 per week. ;0 ). Some days we quadruple the old number or better. Therefore I am re-calculating what a “good” day is, raising it by a factor of 50%.

The weeks and months are outstanding too. August was a record by a large margin. And I might smash that by this evening for September.

The yearly traffic is crazy. I’m already 33% better now than I was through all of 2015 (a good year by my standards). Very likely 2016 will see more traffic than all previous years combined.

burning-smell-from-computer

Only you can prevent blog fires. Please don’t.

I’m at the point now where I could make decent money with annoying ads. I won’t. I’m going to be offering more products and maybe services as the year fails but no ads. There may possibly be small, targeted promotions for things I think will benefit the audience (i.e. guns, cigars, cigar guns). Those, however, will be offset and never interfere with the layout or operation. NO POP-UPS or SHIFTIES EVER! Remember, any ads you see now (at the bottom) are from WordPress and a by-product of my cut-rate plan. I will upgrade that sooner or later.

This, by the way, is post number 750.

I’m going to go celebrate. Maybe with a cigar. Or a nap. I am the world’s 832nd most interesting man.

Last night I promised a big, hard-hitting article on Western civilization, invasion, and terrorism. I had paid work today, a workout and a headache. I did next to nothing. Then I went to a happy hour party of sorts with some friendly recently graduated sorority girls and an open bar…

In short, there will be no big column today. Sorry. Tomorrow. Soon, I promise.

I looked at the news this evening. Turmoil as far as the eye can see. This story caught my eye: UN fears third leg of the global financial crisis, with epic debt defaults. It’s worth a read. It is from the Telegraph, one of the last remaining honest news agencies.

The third leg of the world’s intractable depression is yet to come. If trade economists at the United Nations are right, the next traumatic episode may entail the greatest debt jubilee in history.

It may also prove to be the definitive crisis of globalized capitalism, the demise of the liberal free-market orthodoxies promoted for almost forty years by the Bretton Woods institutions, the OECD, and the Davos fraternity.

Honest enough to admit to an “intractable depression” in progress. Sad but true. And they mention Bretton Woods by name. This warrants further investigation. I actually have another big draft in the works – several years in the making – my solution to the world’s debt problems. Or, at least, those in America. Maybe I can get to that in a few months.

I had been planning to write up a brief story about why you should vote for me as Sheriff. I may run for Sheriff in a few years. I have to establish residency first. I’m not even disclosing the location yet – a rural mountainous county. I will make one Hell of a Sheriff. Anyway, even that can wait.

nimbus-image-1474508123274

So, in the end, all you have are my excuses. Pretty good ones if I may say so.

On the bright side, one of the lovely young ladies I met tonight may be able to get me a discount on my twiner alternative transportation that I’ve been looking at. So Sheriff Perrin can beat a hasty retreat from the mountains to the beach and so forth. (Clovers look like the insects they are from up there.)

Blah, blah, blah … think I’ll just call it a night.

Good night!

Uh, I survived my 20-hour Friday. I think. Today will be pretty busy too. As such, there may not be any “substantive” posting here. This one you’re reading is … semi-substantive. Good enough, eh?

You’re probably going to watch college football today. Perrin’s pick of the week is Alabama (1) at Ole Miss (19). In Oxford. Has to be a good game. There are others that should be good games. I’m particularly interested in what may happen in Boone. *BTW, I think the football verdict is in; opinion may be forthcoming. Non-committal prediction department.

If you’re looking for hardcore rambling, may I suggest two strategies. First, the archives. Over to the left in the sidebar is a list of months – from this one back to June, 2012. Click on any one and see what I was gibbering about at any given time. If you have a particular subject in mind, then type that into the search box located in the upper right corner. I’m closing in on 800 or so articles and I cover just about everything under the sun or moon.

img_20160916_043114078

Our favorite satellite, Sept. 16, 2016.

In related news I culled through the drafts department. I eliminated a few and set some up for a little work. Great stuff there.

For now I’ll stick with the American election, such as it is. Karen Kwiatkowski wrote a piece about the rising neocon tide of vultures circling the coming Trump Presidency. This is why I’ve been saying (assuming Trump will be the next president) that it will be a disappointment to many. He can’t operate in a vacuum.

If anyone should be strong enough to dismiss the siren calls of the war and money-mongers, it’s Trump. I don’t like the signs honestly. My politico-computer gives him an exact 2% chance of running an independent American administration. (And that’s almost 10 times higher than anyone else’s chances). We’ll see.

And what we may see may not be so pleasant. There is hope though not through politics. I’ll leave you with this nifty Guide to Surviving Civil Unrest. It’s a short from Freedom Prepper written by some crazy man.

Happy Saturday, friends!

exercise, fat, fitness, Perrin Lovett

Today I hit my low target weight – 175 lbs. That means I’m 80 pounds lighter than I was eight or nine years ago. I’ve been under 200 for almost four years now straight and uninterrupted. This is the second least I’ve weighed in that time period; two years ago I was about 2 pounds thinner than now.

I got here by cheating a little. My exercising has been a little erratic lately; I suppose it mirrors my mentality. I don’t eat much in the summer anyway and lately I have cut way back to compensate for the sluggish gym routine. To be blunt I feel weak, at least when working out.

This I mentioned is my low target weight. I got here by losing some excess fat. In aeronautical terms I’m at the low-end of my cruising speed range. About 192 is maximum speed and 199 is my “do not exceed” speed. Some of you get that.

Now I intend to embark on a strict power program. I’m still making some calculations. The diet and the motivation are the tricky things. That and not getting hurt (too badly). Today was a wimpy leg day followed by a decent secession in the ring (mostly hand work). Tomorrow I’m going to hit legs again kind of hard.

I may throw out some stats from time to time. Like today’s:

Weight: 175, you got that;

Waist: 32 inches (in the a.m.);

Chest: 40-something;

Biceps: ? but kind of small;

Legs: ?? and weak.

…this is kind of discouraging…

Bench: ? but at least 365 (still got that);

Squats: ???we will find out tomorrow;

Deadlift: weak, weak, weak….

Punching: fastish, still powerful, and rather accurate;

Kicks: needs work but can still hit face level;

Hip-throw/body slam: at last check I could still slam my body weight but I hurt the heck out of my shoulder….

Mile run: I can do it…

**Note: I’m over 40 so I reserve the right to substitute: Hammer Strength bench for flat bench; Hammer Strength deadlift rack for bar, and; leg press for the squat rack. I will do this at will and without further announcement. If you don’t like that, buy some books and then F off.

I hope a few of you find this inspirational. The rest of you may find it mildly entertaining.

Oops. It’s 8:30; old man must go to bed now…

Here’s a picture of some weights:
