It’s 2016 and the Obamacare Tax and Insurance Company Enrichment Act still regularly makes the news – usually for additional premium increases or for doctors bailing from the system or from the profession. All in the name of revenue. You’re welcome.

Viernheim Shooting Update – STILL NOTHING!

Pushing a week and still no word on the shooter’s identity beyond “broken German” and disturbed and rank speculation. “The Darmstadt prosecutor remains silent, because the investigations continue.” I read somewhere they considered him an acute threat. To what, I wonder? The EU? Merkel’s Fourth Reich Unholy Empire? They say ignorance is bliss but this is bothering me…

Paul Ryan Rescues Banksters, Globalists

Do not panic. That foul odor wafting through the air today was not the result of an explosion at a hog rendering plant. You did not smell a rat. Well, actually you did – a rat named Paul Ryan. The little Speaker who couldn’t finally got some traction with his first signature legislation in the House. He, under orders from Jacob Lew and the international monied powers, crafted a “bipartisan deal” to bail out..er..restructure Puerto Rico’s $70 Billion debts.

A bipartisan action is generally applauded as it is seen as cooperation between the Bloods and Crips of Congress. What it really means, most of the time, is that a royal screwing is coming.

The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is an unincorporated U.S. Territory. The people there have been granted near statehood, with a governor, a general assembly and some other criminal offices. The locals have petitioned for full statehood. Oddly, the United Nations considers P.R. a separate and sovereign nation. Whatever one calls the Island, the voters there and their elected clowns are adults. They should act like adults. Make a debt, pay a debt. Or not. Just don’t expect someone else to pick up the tab. Speaker Ryan has other ideas.

I warned about this coming theft several weeks ago:

Puerto Rico is not about to default on its debt payments, but is defaulting (has [past tense] defaulted) on them. All things being equal this would not concern me much. What got my attention in the Wall Street Journal’s article last night was the smug arrogance of the Empire’s chief henchman, Jack Lew. He’s the creep who is kicking Old Hickory off the Twenty. Well, he’s been chosen to make that suggestion to the Fed puppet-masters.

In a letter to Congress, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew warned on Monday that a U.S. “taxpayer-funded bailout may become the only legislative course available” if the proposed restructuring legislation isn’t approved.

The island’s debt is held by mutual funds, hedge funds, bond insurers and individual investors, who were attracted in part by tax benefits and high yields. The default Monday casts serious doubt on the commonwealth’s ability to make other future payments, which “means that other defaults are very likely on other Puerto Rico credits,” said Paul Mansour…

-WSJ, May 2, 2016.

Well, of course. Let one government and its supporters screw up and the other government and all its supporters (willing or no) will foot the bill. It’s the only course available. Letting nature take its course is not an option – that would be bad for the hedge funds, banks, and insurance companies. They pay a lot of money for their (their, like the own it and it belongs to them) government. They have to get their money’s worth. The bulk of the people remain blissfully unaware.

You may be blissful about this garbage but you’re no longer unaware. The Hill and the WSJ have notified you and I’ve told you twice now.

A people and their crooked “leaders” make mistakes. It happens to the best of us. A default would be bad for P.R. but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Things might actually get better – financial correction they call it. But then the big boys would lose on their investments and they NEVER lose. At least not while they have your taxes to loot.

Mike Thompson, Detroit Free Press

The local spendthrifts will keep on spending, the Wall Street cabal will remain neck-deep in caviar, and the GOP establishment claims a victory. Yes, those “conservatives” everyone loves (and their “liberal” friends like Nanny Nancy Pelosi) think robbing the people to pay satanic hucksters is a victory. By the way, the only real opposition to this scheme in Congress has come from “socialist” Bernie Sanders:

The Puerto Rico legislation still hasn’t been scheduled on the House floor. Bishop will mark up the bill in his committee on Wednesday, leaving the full chamber just one day to take it up before lawmakers leave town Thursday for the Memorial Day recess.

Some lawmakers want a quick vote on Puerto Rico this week. The longer it hangs out there, the thinking goes, the more time political foes will have to try to stir up opposition. On the left, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a Democratic presidential candidate, urged his Senate colleagues Monday to oppose the legislation, ripping the oversight board as “undemocratic” because it’s comprised of “unelected” appointees.

  • The Hill, May 24, 2016.

The bailout will happen; consider it a done deal. Really $2 Billion or the whole $70 Billion is but a barely noticeable drop in the fed’s ocean of economic woe. Things like this add up though. When the whole system comes crashing down don’t count on the banksters to be found let alone lend a hand. They’re gathering the last of the cash (yours and mine) and preparing to flee. However, come hell or high water, the politicians will be easier to find. They’ll still expect to be re-elected. Remember this story and all the others. Hold them accountable or rinse and repeat with similar results.

ObamaCare Unconstitutional…again

Well, not so much the law – the Supreme Court said it was a-ok. The problem, the illegality is in the manner in which the administration is making payments to insurance companies under the law.

The Constitution says “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law,” [Judge] Collyer noted, but the administration has continued to pay billions to insurers for their extra cost of providing health coverage.

“Paying [those] reimbursements without an appropriation thus violates the Constitution,” she wrote. “Congress is the only source for such an appropriation, and no public money can be spent without one.”

Federal judge rules Obamacare is being funded unconstitutionally, L.A. Times, May 16, 2016.

The Ruling will probably be overturned on appeal. The Judge is 100% correct about Congressional appropriation. However, the Constitution is as dead as a hammer and the government gets what it wants. In this case it wanted a new tax (even though they didn’t know it was a tax at the time – thank you, John Roberts, for the clarification). The tax is designed to funnel money to insurance companies (“billions to insurers”). Those insurers wrote the law in order to get the free money.

Approximately the same number of Americans are now uninsured as were before the law was enacted. The difference is that many have to pay a sizable tax every year because they are uninsured. Those with insurance pay higher premiums under the law. The net effect is: no new coverage for the uninsured and; massive profit for the insurance industry of America (second only to the banks in political power/thievery).

Mull this over, if you will. Hillary and Bernie will not change this. The Donald and the spineless Paul Ryan will not change this. Those latter con-men only talk about “repealing” Obamacare and “replacing” it with something else written by the insurance lobbyists.

Google.

Hope and change ain’t making America great. It’s all making a certain sect of criminals richer than ever – at our expense as usual. Keep on voting!

In a free society people closely watch their government. In an unfree society the government closely watches the people. In a smart society people watch what is happening around them. In a dumb society people watch television. If you just stepped out of a time machine or a spaceship, welcome to America. Things are just fine.

Puerto Rico is not about to default on its debt payments, but is defaulting (has [past tense] defaulted) on them. All things being equal this would not concern me much. (For giggles, grab a map or globe and ask random passers-by to find Puerto Rico!).

The sheep are also unaware of the wolves’ plan to tax their vehicle travel by the mile (in addition to the other taxes). This scheme is marching along (openly and loudly) and will serve two purposes. One, it will provide more money for bailing out hedge funds, banks, and insurance companies. Two, it will allow 24/7 tracking of your movements.

If the people become aware, then they will surely approve of this measure. Tracking means safety which is far superior to freedom. Freedom might, just might, interfere with the watching of basketball, baseball, racing, listening to drug addict, tattoo country pop, attending to the slave overseer selection (election) madness, french fry eating, and so forth.

Lock and Load: Guns News Coast to Coast

America, DOJ, firearms, freedom, government, green space chickens, gun control, Hillary Clinton, law, Mississippi, Second Amendment, Supreme Court, taxes, The People

Chelsea Clinton recently spoke to a group of communists and hoplophobes in Maryland about how her dear old Mom will use the Supreme Court to bring us a definitive ruling on gun control and some good old “common sense” regulation. Common sense – like what passed for common sense security in Benghazi. It seems like the court Mom should be concentrating on is the criminal court that may try her for those emails (just kidding, she’s in the Club).

Chelsea is much more attractive than her mommy and her voice isn’t nearly as irritating. Still, she marches to a similar drum. Her remarks were based in enough callousness and condescension to make her mother proud. Said the young Clinton: “With that greasy old wop [Justice Scalia] out of the way … mommy and I can take all the guns from those dumb Bible-thumpers and tax slaves…” Her line was cut short by a wild, howling chorus of cackles and mindless, violent-sounding chants; someone screamed “Allah Akbar!” See and hear for yourself.

Elsewhere, other fascists praised the actions of the territorial government of the Northern Mariana Islands and its institution of a $1,000 per item tax on gun sales. The Islands are one of those American territories that are only so that the natives may collect entitlement payments and people like Governor Ralph Torres can have jobs and a non-straw house to live in. I support independence for the Islands! As a free state they could enact whatever laws they choose. Gun control, cannibalism, anything they like. Our problem is that they want their law to be a model for the 50 States and other jurisdictions.

Chelsea’s Mom once supported a similar tax scheme. Maybe that’s the common sense definition she wants. The idea is that even if Herr Hillary’s Court can’t ban guns, the guns can be taxed out of the reach of most “ordinary” people. By the way, I’ve heard these islanders were the inspiration for the various headhunters on Gilligan’s Island.

Another Second Amendment end-around is to make financial transactions impossible for gun dealers and manufacturers. The Department of Justice [SIC] has a lovely program called Operation Choke Point. It is designed to make it rather difficult for risky or criminal enterprises to do banking business through the Federal Reserve’s risky, criminal organized banking business. The DOJ increasingly wants to lump gun makers into the same category with drug dealers, cartels (NOT to include the Fed), the mafia, and certain terrorist groups. They also want to include cigar companies. I’m sure military armament companies will have no problems cashing our tax checks and the State Department and CIA will keep bringing in those Cubans to give as gifts to the MIC reps at the trade shows (seen it myself). The rest of us be damned; Mommy knows best.

As is today, one doesn’t even need a gun to run afoul of the anti-freedom nut cases. A college student in south Alabama got in trouble with the campus rent-a-cop for wearing an empty holster during a political protest. The raincoat clad storm trooper even admitted the student did not violate any laws or rules but still cited him for causing a disturbance and threatened administrative action from the school. In south Alabama! Free people in Chicago and Boston are doomed.

Next door in Georgia we’re still waiting to see if Nathan “Captain Cave-in” Deal will sign or veto the State’s campus carry law. No word yet. No speculation either about the status of empty, as opposed to full, holsters in the Peach State. Peachy, Nathan, just peachy.

Now the good news. Some parts of America still somewhat resemble America regarding gun rights. Mississippi’s Governor just signed into law state-wide permitless carry of firearms. That means you’re free to be free. Mississippi joins a growing number of such unrestricted jurisdictions. These places tend to have lower crime rates than locales infected with that “common sense” nonsense. If you want safety and sanity, it may be time to move to a place where people are free to be free. Leave the rest of the continent to the cacklers and the headhunters. Or, molon labe!

April 15th, Tax Day. Well, I hear they moved the date to the 18th this year but the 15th, today, is the traditional deadline to file returns with the IRS. Yesterday in eerily timed oral arguments in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Judge David Sentelle said, “It’s hard to find the IRS to be an agency we can trust.” The Case is True the Vote v. IRS, ___ F.3d ___, No. 14-5316 (D.C. Cir., April 14, 2016).

True and several other Tea Party groups sued the IRS for violating their civil rights. Throughout the proceedings the IRS has maintained the same disdain and arrogance they show to any ordinary taxpayer (maybe you have had the lovely experience). Except, this time, they unnerved two federal judges presiding over the arguments. At least the IRS is consistent.

The “masters of the universe” attitude, arrogance, and obstruction the IRS is famous for earned them the title of “untrustworthy”. The only word to describe them better is “evil”. Remember that next time your fill out their forms or meet with your CPA.

Now, go pay your taxes!

These days I watch as little television as possible. With a few (very few) exceptions there just isn’t anything worth seeing. Tonight’s experience is a good example. I passed by the TV after dinner and decided to watch for a minute. A minute was all they got too.

images

Google Images.

Paul Ryan, the newly ordained 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives, was interviewed by some lady on Fox News. Young Master Paul was glibly gibbering on about the new direction he was going to head us in. Before I left, disinterested and a little angry, I caught four of his plan points, posed as questions. I’ll paraphrase them as best as I recall:

What are we going to replace Obamacare with?

What new tax system will we develop?

How do we get people off welfare?

How do we get people working?

I have an answer for each of these quandaries; I’ll get to them shortly. First, isn’t this amazing? This Speaker reminds me of the one before, and the one before him, and the one before her, and on and on. These are the same pet issues the GOP has talked about for decades. They’ve done nothing more than talk. I suppose this rote, broken record is entertaining enough for the average voter. A person of substance, looking objectively at what has been done (rather than said), would get the idea the people are being played for fools.

It is clear as a bell the GOP and their Donkey friends intend to keep things just as they are – only the form or name may change slightly. The effects will be the same. “Replace” Obamacare. With what? A “new” tax. Why?

I walked by a minute later and heard Paully say “military” – another Republican pet project we can’t afford. That’s all I heard. I assume he wants to keep it. Maybe make it bigger. And, lordy, it needs regular u$e.

My four answers:

Repeal Obamacare (and Medicaid, Medicare, etc) and replace it with … NOTHING!!! Government’s century-long meddling in healthcare has done nothing but drive prices into orbit. Leave patients and doctors alone.

How about NO TAXES!!! Taxes support governments. The money is always better off in the hands that earned it. Leave people’s money alone.

To end welfare (all of it – farm subsides, bank bailouts, etc), ABOLISH IT!!! If you pay folks not to work, many won’t. The same goes for corporations, bankers and ranchers. Leave the economy alone.

Want people to work? Leave that to them and leave them alone.

I have a military answer too: A MILITIA!!! A militia is just citizens protecting their own. A standing army wastes money and lives invading other nations. Leave the world alone.

There. I solved everything. I could have done it in three words: eliminate the government.

Before he goes John “Boo-Hoo” Boehner has one last trick up his sleeve. It’s just in time for Halloween too. Speaker Dearest has been working hard with his best friend, President Obama (TWO parties, remember), to raise the debt ceiling.

burning

If only. Google.

The potential treat for this season is that the government is all but broke. Without more debt it will have to shut down at least temporarily. That would be a blessing for the masses but it will not happen. The monied interests need the government operational so they can continue to loot the carcus of our economy.

Congress has money, yes. This year has seen record tax collections from both individuals and corporations – over $3 Trillion. Such a number would seem enough to finance anything. Anything except our corrupt beyond hope political and financial elites, that is. Printing more paper money is their only hope. As they have slammed into the statutory cap on borrowing once again, they must vote to raise the cap. They will.

As usual a few dissenters give the pretense of debate over the matter. It’s an act well scripted. They say they will hold up next year’s budget over the debt. They won’t. This year they have side lies to entertain the people. Funding of Planned Parenthood is another holdup. Rest assured the rats of the Potomac care no more about children than they do fiscal responsibility. All just an act in the weary play of American Decline.

Little of this makes the news. Paul Craig Roberts just, again, explained why – the U.S. media is but a puppet of the state and its owners. They report the truth in nothing. Not our wars. Not our money. The World Series, yes. Anything of substance, no.

Your favorite candidate, whomever that might be, is silent too. They’re too busy talking about themselves and each other at present. Should the debt or budget come up they will only have platitudes. Their stated plans are a continuation of the status quo. Bernie Sanders Claus is the exception. He wants to give everything away for free. That means even more debt and spending. It makes no sense. Then again, the voters are not known for reasoning ability. A guy promising goodies from the sky just might be their man. No difference.

Whoever of this latest pathetic crop gets the job will do exactly as he’s told. The Banksters and the Treasury beaurocrats must have more money to keep the smoke and mirrors economy running just a little while longer.

Faced both with imminent collapse and the prospect of angry, hungry, zombie-like idiot voters at their doors they are out of magic tricks. Spending cannot slow for even a day. The Federal Reserve cannot raise interest rates. The slightest breeze could now topple their house of cards. And, don’t laugh. You and I live in that house.

Only more debt, ridiculous spending and more of the same will prop up the system – for a while. Eventually the bell shall toll.

Were an omnipotent and benevolent being with governing super powers to directly intervene, the solution would be so simple:

Rather than making a show, boasting to impeach its chief criminal, the IRS could just be abolished. Relieved of taxation the people could keep their money. By abolishing the Fed and its monopoly on funny money, the cash the people keep would have actual value.

Starved of funding the government would really close down – for good. This would free the newly enriched free people from war, regulation, taxation, jail threats, airport strip searches, bad medicine, toilet tank size restrictions, marriage mandates, travel and trade restrictions, gun laws, labor laws, electoral cycle bullshit and a host of other horrors.

Those other people, the ravaging zombies, could be placated by feeding them the newly unemployed and utterly worthless mass of politicians, beaurocrats and central bankers. A collective burp later and all memory of the past corruption would erased.

Sunrise scene

Dawn shall come. Google.

Ah, for a quick and happy ending. No super being will show up. Things will go on. The end and the solution will not come quickly. But, come it will. Some day all the things I just hypothesised will come to pass in one way or another. Rome will burn and fall. Freedom and intelligence will return. Then, it will be happy.

Trump on Taxes

Donald Trump just started talking like an old school Republican.  He’s added a third plank to his Presidential platform – along with immigration reform and the Second Amendment – tax cuts.  The Wall Street Journal says Trump’s plan would cut taxes for millions of Americans.  I put the emphasis in the last sentence on “would” because The Donald’s plan, as great as it may sound, won’t happen even if he’s elected.

There are too many who will not stand for substantive changes to our draconian tax code, members of the huge tax benefit lobby at the bottom of which is the Federal Reserve, gaping and grasping like that sandpit monster from Return of the Jedi.  One must also consider the malicious might of those 535 clowns under the big top … er ….dome in D.C.

This plan, which looks far better than the insane mess we have now, is fated to fail like the Fairtax and various flat tax proposals before it.

Here’s a link to the Trump plan.

Trump has four “simple” tax goals:

Tax relief for middle class Americans: In order to achieve the American dream, let people keep more money in their pockets and increase after-tax wages.

Simplify the tax code to reduce the headaches Americans face in preparing their taxes and let everyone keep more of their money.

Grow the American economy by discouraging corporate inversions, adding a huge number of new jobs, and making America globally competitive again.

Doesn’t add to our debt and deficit, which are already too large.

Trump Plan.

All tax brackets would drop with the maximum being capped at 25%.  Those earning less than $25,000 per year would pay no tax.  Trump would eliminate the marriage penalty, the Alternative Minimum Tax and the Federal Death Tax. These are great points.  However, consider that the original maximum tax bracket was supposed to be 10% and that was supposedly reserved for the super rich. Government is like a hungry wolf; just because it doesn’t eat you today doesn’t mean it won’t try tomorrow.

1306883252730

Always at the door.  Google Images.

I assume the other candidates have or will soon publish similar plans. Republicans will promise cuts, Libertarians deeper cuts, and Democrats increases here and there to make things fair.  What we will have in the end is the status quo.  It’s no coincidence the Sixteenth Amendment and the modern tax system came along on 1913 along with the Federal Reserve.  One is dependent on the other, both are weapons of the government against the free people.

The scheme we currently suffer is bad.  Trump’s plan is better.  It would also be better to return to the tax system originally built into the Republic – tariffs, etc. or into the Confederation – Congress begging the States for dough as needed. Best of all would be a 0% tax for everyone with no government to support.  For satirical consideration only is the solution I noted several years ago from a Doctor Who episode – tossing the tax collector off a high roof.  That would tend to work under any tax system.

Several days ago several of my friends lamented both the constant barrage of stories about abortion and the subject itself.  All averredly pro-life they are none-the-less tired of hearing about Planned Abor…Parenthood, pro-choice, pro-life, and broken Republican rhetoric.  One asked, “why doesn’t anyone just do something?”

Someone tried.  Oddly enough it was an elected Republican from Georgia who actually used his position of power to make a difference.  He tried time and again.  Failure to him only meant another chance to try again.

He was dead serious about protecting children in addition to championing various other causes of freedom.  He was one of the very few living politicians I admired. I knew the man personally.  His name was Bobby Franklin.

Robert “Bobby” Franklin represented Georgia’s 43rd House District (Cobb County) from 1997 until his death in 2011.

RepBobbyFranklin

Bobby Franklin at work.  Google.

A self-made businessman he served on the House Banking Committee, among others.  At one time he was chairman of the House Reapportionment Committee.  He consistently stood for less government and more freedom.  He was never shy of controversy.

His most famous stand was for those unborn Georgians.  In 2011 he made sure the very first bill in the House hopper was one which would have made abortion a felony punishable by either death or life in prison.  See: H.B. 1, 2011.  He rightly considered the practice a form of murder.

His hardest critics, had they not been weak cowards, would have possibly tried to murder Bobby himself for his stance.  Of course, they resorted to base distortion and lying, going so far as to say Bobby would criminalize ordinary miscarriage. These were and are the same sort of satanists who laugh while discussing chopping up living babies and then selling the parts.

You can read and judge for yourself the would-have-been effects of H.B. 1 via the link above.  Here is the pertinent part of the Bill, concerned with protecting the rights of all citizens:

bobby bill

H.B. 1, 2011, GA Gen. Assembly.

Extreme, huh?

Upon his untimely death his detractors still mocked:

Bobby Franklin was the demagogue the Founding Fathers feared and warned us about, a perfect example of the excesses of democracy that would strip the common American citizen of his or her rights.

If you must have a eulogy from me this morning, it will be this, and this only: Bobby Franklin was a danger to democracy and a danger to women and now he’s dead.

Hrafnkell Haraldsson, No Eulogies for Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin,
July 28, 2011.

Nonsense, all of it.  The free people of the state had no better friend.

Bobby did want to strip away certain things from out the overfilled lumber room of Georgia law.  He wanted to strip out taxes.  He wanted to strip away regulations.  He wanted to strip away government involvement in people’s lives – to include abolishing the requirement for a state-issued driver’s license.

Had the ultra-left not been so preoccupied with killing babies they might have recognized Bobby’s position of licenses as similar to those of the 1960’s counter-culture.

“Free people have a common law and constitutional right to travel on the roads and highways that are provided by their government for that purpose,” Franklin’s legislation states. “Licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right.”
In an interview with CBS Atlanta News, Franklin claimed driver’s licenses are a throw back to oppressive times.

“Agents of the state demanding your papers,” he said. “We’re getting that way here.”

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/georgia-republican-nobody-should-need-a-driver-s-license

TPM Muckraker, Feb. 2, 2011.

He further proposed other “unthinkable” freedom-centered legislation, to include:

*The sole use of gold or silver as currency (where did he ever get that idea???);

*Taxing and regulating the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta like any other bank;

*Banning forced vaccinations;

*Eliminating the state income tax;

*Eliminating property taxes;

*Banning eminent domain;

*Recognizing that civil government is last and least after family, religion, and community;

*Protecting the right to bear arms and to use them in self-defense;

*Making it legal to carry a firearm into a Georgia church (actually passed three years after his death); and

*Mandating that questions of Constitutional Law be settled by elected officials in the General Assembly rather than the Courts.

Bobby never quite trusted the courts nor lawyers (maybe to include me..).  He was not afraid of them and did not worship their decisions as most lawyers do.  In fact, his H.B. 1, supra, would have specifically banned federal courts from reviewing his law, as they lacked jurisdiction (true if moot today):

bobby bill2

H.B. 1, 2011. Federal courts need not apply.

A little known fact about Bobby Franklin was that he actually wanted to become a Federal District Court Judge.  He once called me, during the early 2000s, to ask what the qualifications were and, specifically, if one had to be an attorney.  I explained to him he met all the (very few) technical qualifications.  There is no requirement that a federal judge of any sort be an attorney.  Some of the finest of all American jurists have been (long ago) non-lawyers.

We then discussed the political qualifications.  Politically, one does need to be an attorney.  One also needs to contribute heavily to a President’s campaign.  One must be capable of passing U.S. Senate scrutiny after securing a nomination.  I asked him if he thought George Bush (the dimmer) would nominate such an outspoken, relentless champion of liberty.  We laughed and he apparently dismissed the idea.  That was a shame.

I think what had stirred him to this unlikely career change idea was the flap over the separation of church and state caused by the public display here and there of the Ten Commandments.  I’m sure he had other reasons too.  He would have made a fantastic judge.

Bobby was a fantastic man.  A man in real life in addition to the newspapers and the state house.  We attended a men’s wild game dinner at the First Baptist Church in Woodstock together.  Then governor Sonny Perdue gave a short sermon before shotguns were raffled off.  Sometimes Georgia is a damn fine place!  Perdue actually gave a decent homily, concerning the wrath of the devil in our lives: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”  1 Peter 5:8, JKV.

That is a powerful verse and Perdue’s usage was well placed.  Powerful also was Bobby Franklin’s response to a joking question asked that night by another speaker.  Remember, it was a men’s group.  The speaker laughingly asked how many of us were “henpecked.”   A thousand or so of us sheepishly raised our hands.  Bobby did not.  Real. Man.

I found out he was gone one day when I was poking around my Facebook feed and realized Bobby wasn’t on anymore.  A Google search revealed his death to me.  As could be guessed from his legislative history, Bobby was a staunch Christian.  His death was discovered when he failed to show as usual at his church on Sunday morning.  He died of well-hidden heart problems.  One would have never suspected he took prescription medications of any kind – he was as physically fit as he was steadfast to his principles.

The popular press was a bit kinder than the lunatic left in its obituary:

“He was one of the few politicians who stood by what he believed in, whether you agreed with it or not.” …

“He would want to be remembered first as a person of faith and second as a person who loved his country and loved liberty.” …

“While he certainly was controversial, he was never vitriolic and was never mean. This is a very sad day for Georgia.”

Franklin could also often be a thorn in the side of Republican leadership. While his go-it-alone attitude was rarely problematic, he could tie up committee meetings for hours. A member of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, he would frequently attempt to add anti-abortion language to unrelated bills to the exasperation of his colleagues.

He also was unafraid to challenge the speaker of the House, an act somewhat akin to challenging a king. On several occasions, even challenging a member of the same party, Franklin would force a vote of the full House in an attempt to overrule the speaker. This was true under both former Speaker Glenn Richardson, R-Hiram, and current Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge.

Franklin Remembered, AJC, July 26, 2011.

I suppose this is my belated good-bye to Bobby.  His loss was a sad blow to Georgia and America.  Also, sadly, we will not likely see his kind again.
