James’s 10 New Reasons You Have To Quit Your Job In 2017 (2 of 10):

G) YOUR BOSS HAS TO FIRE YOU

If you create $1 in value, and you have a boss, who has a boss, who has a boss, who has a board, who has shareholders….then how much of that dollar do you get to keep?

Well, now we know the answer. In the 1960s, a CEO might make five times the average employee.

Now a CEO makes 200 times the average employee. The answer: you get none of the dollar and the CEO gets all of it.

And what is that dollar? It’s money you created for the company. More of it should be yours. But every day less of it is yours.

Who will get fired first? The slave drivers or the slaves?

We know the answer. Executives took billions of dollars in bonuses when the banks got $600 billion in bailout money from the US government in 2009.

And everyone else got fired.

This is not a political opinion. Or a suggestion on how things could have been different.

But it’s this: now we know the answer.

H) YOU DON’T NEED THE JOB TO BE HAPPY

Depression is highest in fully employed, first world countries. The two highest countries for depression? France and the United States.

We simply were not made to work 60 hours a week. Archaeologists figure that our paleo ancestors “worked” maybe 12 hours a week.

And then they would play, in order to keep up the skills needed to hunt and forage, etc.

Why is work depressing? Not all of these reasons but maybe some of them.

Being bossed around by people we don’t respect.
Being forced to be friends just because they share our cubicle walls and hear all of our whispered pleadings with romantic partners as we try to be as quiet as possible.
Meetings
Seeing the 80/20 rule in action where 20% of the employees create 80% of the value and the other 80% just barely (desperately, fearfully) survive.
Being mandated by an 800 page guidebook how you can talk to people of the opposite sex or of different skin colors.
Seeing corporate political agendas rule over financial realities and not being able to say anything about it for fear of being fired.
Spending 6am to 7pm getting ready for work, commuting to work, working, commuting back, too tired to move when you return home.
Falling in love, getting rejected, and seeing her every day and then crying in my cubicle.
Or maybe that last one was just me. A lot of crying.

Jobs are not so great. And they cause a lot of suffering. And you don’t really need them. Bear with me.

You may not be ready to leave your job, but your job is ready to leave you. And the robots are beating on the door. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about alternatives.

By the way, therein James mentions Elon Musk’s idea of a “universal basic income” – guaranteed money for everyone when no one has a job. He’s not for it or against it – just a mention. That too is something to consider (that most will not). It is an idea that will not work. Part of the reason why lies in the hellish banking/monetary/taxation/debt system I covered (tried to) yesterday.

The world is changing – same as it ever has. It’s good to look around from time to time.

Just yesterday I wrote of the Diminishing Value of Degrees and the fact that major companies no longer require them. It seems private companies aren’t the only ones feeling that way; public universities are joining on.

At the University of California’s San Francisco campus, 79 IT employees lost their jobs this week, some of them after explaining to their replacements at Indian outsourcing firm HCL how to do their jobs.

The union representing the employees, University Professional and Technical Employees CWA Local 9119, says it’s the first time a public university has offshored American IT jobs.

In a statement sent yesterday, UPTE-CWA says the layoffs could spread, since the HCL contract can be utilized by any of the 10 campuses in the University of California system, the nation’s largest public university. “US taxes should be used to create jobs in the US, not in other countries,” said Kurt Ho, a systems administrator who was quoted in the union’s press release. Ho was required to train his replacement as a condition of getting his severance pay.

In its statement on the matter, UCSF says that it was pushed to hire outside contractors due to “increased demand for information technology and escalating costs for these services.” The university says it will save more than $30 million by hiring HCL, after seeing IT costs nearly triple between 2011 and 2016, “driven by the introduction of the electronic medical record and increased digital connectivity.”

The old, temporarily somewhat true story went like this: go to a “good” school; get a degree there; use the degree to get a “good” job; work there for 30-40 years; retire happy in Florida. That’s no longer true at all, even at the “good” schools, the places that confer the degrees.

UCSF terminated skilled, dedicated, degreed American professionals in favor of who-knows-the skills?, who-knows-the language H-1B immigrants (or remotes). All to save a few dollars. Odds are, this plan will backfire, with the replacements costing much more in repetition, poor communication, failed systems, and other problems.

Look for this to spread, especially at the hypocritical schools. Tuition is higher than ever and rising. Presidents, administrators, and football coaches are paid like royalty. But there’s no money… And no jobs. Even with one of those trusty degrees.

I wonder what the students in the UCSF Computer Sciences Department, where they’re “Computing for a better tomorrow“, think? Tomorrow, who knows. Today doesn’t look so hot.

college, economy, education, idiocy, intelligence, jobs

Over the past few years I have written extensively about the joke that is modern “higher” education. I started with my own experience. The only ideas I learned in college were essentially self-taught lessons in (elective) areas that interested me (philosophy, classics, etc.). Only too late did I realize my mistake with a business major. The only things I remember from business school is that: 1) about 3% of targeted people respond to advertising campaigns, and 2) let the calculator do the amortizations.

Law school was a similar fiasco. “Government good. Government all powerful. Government give some rights. Thanks be to government for government…” Bullsh!t! on that!

Lately I’ve explored the PC circus permanently encamped on our campuses. Outside of the hard sciences there is next to no education, just indoctrination in the wonders of victimhood, white guilt, and socialism. No formal learning. Anything of value actually picked up is done so incidentally and autodidactically. And they pay big money for all this garbage.

This is how it is possible for so many to come out of four, five, seven, and eight+ year programs and know nothing – literally with the experience and mentality of seven-year-olds (along with bad, snooty attitudes and loads of debt).

People outside the ivory towers are beginning to notice the decline. And they’re reacting accordingly:

Ernst & Young, one of the UK’s biggest graduate recruiters, has announced it will be removing the degree classification from its entry criteria, saying there is “no evidence” success at university correlates with achievement in later life.

In an unprecendented move, the accountancy firm is scrapping its policy of requiring a 2:1 and the equivalent of three B grades at A-level in order to open opportunities for talented individuals “regardless of their background”.

In other words, at Ernst, a college degree may be an enhancer for some, but it is no longer a base requirement. Why? Because, as stated, there’s no longer any evidence it means anything. Time was when a degree meant you had a smart, well-read, and hard-working man on your hands. Now, it likely means you’re interviewing an SJW, know-nothing, nitwit and future HR headache, someone who understands little and will accomplish even less. Ernst is not alone in this development.

Martin Armstrong also commented on this story:

The best education has ALWAYS been an apprenticeship – not some university course taught by someone who has never practiced what they teach.
Roman_school

In ancient Rome, at between nine and twelve years of age, boys from affluent families would leave their basic education behind and take up study with a grammaticus, who was a teacher that refined his students’ writing and speaking skills. They would be versed in the art of poetic analysis and taught them Greek if they did not yet know it. They would be taught logic and how to think. By this point, lower class boys would already be working as apprentices. If someone wanted to be a sculptor, he would apply to be an apprentice at a sculptor shop. Girls, both rich and poor, would be focused on making themselves attractive brides and, subsequently, capable mothers. It was the women who often ran the household.

We still have trade schools, which are regarded as less than university. Yet, our education in university was supposed to follow the Roman model of apprentice for the lower class and higher education for the upper class. But somehow, university moved beyond grammaticus and pretended to prepare someone for a skill, which the Roman system did not seek to accomplish – merely refine the character of the student.
Even economics at its beginning under Adam Smith was regarded as part of moral philosophy. Economics was not taught as a subject by itself until 1901.

From Greco-Roman through Victorian times, all trades worked through apprenticeships. All – cobblers, chimney-sweeps, sailors, lawyers, doctors, economists, teachers, masons, carpenters, manufacturers, salesmen, architects, fishermen – all of them offered apprenticeships.

Higher education, elite education, existed all throughout those times. It was intended, for those of given aptitude and circumstance, to gain a level of understanding and intellectual exposure above and beyond the ordinary – and above what was required in their chosen field of employment.

Socrates – no degrees. Leonidas Drosis (Athens) / Wikipedia.

Today, there are a precious few institutions still in business that provide the basics of a real advanced education. Very few and very far between. We’re lucky to have them.

We’re even luckier to have the internet. Essentially 100% of the contents of a good college curriculum are available on-line and mostly for free. Any enterprising person with a basic grasp of reading and math (all that’s afforded by most “lower” schools anyway) can learn anything they like about any given subject.

Share this information with young people you might know and care about. If you, at any age, want an education, then get one. Don’t fall for the modern college/student loan slavery trap. Learn what you like, in your own time, at your own pace. And forget the degrees – there’s “no evidence” they mean anything and they are no longer golden tickets (manacles, maybe; tickets, no).

economy, jobs, money, robots

So hints the Wall Street Journal today, in an excellent, thought-provoking article by Lauren Weber. The gist of the matter is that large corporations across the country are doing everything they can to cut labor costs. This means, for now, outsourcing, independent contractors, other contractors, temps, and freelancers. I took away three things from the article.

First, it’s absolutely true. Employers no longer wish to employ employees. Read the material and look at the graphs. Consult Google – or your own employment experiences. I’ve talked about this before. James Altucher regularly says the same things. It’s happening (or happened).

And it is not, in and of itself, a bad thing. Yes, “traditional” career jobs are harder to come by, vanishing, in fact. But they were a relatively new phenomenon anyway. The 40 hours a week for 40 years thing came along some time in the industrial revolution. Before that people either worked in small businesses, worked for themselves, or grew crops. Things changed. They’ll change again.

Ms. Weber looks into the desperation (and greed) of some of these job-cutting companies. She also looks at the downside(s) for displaced employees (several of those). What jumped out at me, my second take-away, was this:

Some economists liken the strategy to Hollywood studios, which greenlight movies and then hire directors, actors, editors, special-effects teams and marketing agencies for production. All those outsiders work together to deliver the movie, but the studio has no long-term obligations after the film’s release.

This, I see as the silver lining. The silver screen lining, we’ll wittily call it. The directors, actors, editors, effects, and marketing people of Hollywood clean up – at least for the big films and productions. The actors get the fame so I’ll concentrate on them. Jennifer Lawrence (who is so hot) doesn’t care if a movie is a one-time contract gig because she gets $10 Million for her part. She likely also negotiates residual income from it as well.

Actors can command these sums (some of them) and dictate some terms because the have value. They have it, they know it, and they sell it.

This may be the short-term future of employment. Gerry Spence once wrote (and I cannot remember in which excellent book…) that he hoped some day people would be paid based on their talents. He hoped the employees could dictate their own terms. Big business had that reversed for years; society came to accept it – for most jobs. The actors did not. They sold their talent for what it was worth – what people would pay for it within market limits.

Hopefully this trend will spread outside of Hollywood and Burbank. Whoever you are, whatever you do, you have talent and value. Use it. For now. I say “for now” because of the third thing that jumped out at me, the 800-pound mechanical gorilla in the room:

BNY Chairman and CEO Gerald Hassell vowed to “drive down the labor component of our company” with technology that can perform tasks currently done by people. Other companies view contracting as a stopgap until more jobs are automated, freeing firms to dispense with some workers altogether.

The robots are not coming. They’re here now. And they’re getting “better” every day. What’s coming is their revolution. Right now there are very few jobs which cannot be performed by some android, bot, or AI. In a few years (years, not decades) it will be virtually 100% of the jobs. The decades part will fully round out the 100%. 0 humans needed at that point. And that means 0 jobs. Which means 0 pay. Which will make it a little difficult to pay for the goods and services the bots produce.

TERMINATOR GENISYS

The new boss may not be a people person. May not be a person. Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions.

This can of worms is open and we’re all getting into it (look – there’s one crawling on your ankle right now). This revolution will either be the greatest thing to ever happen to humanity, one of the absolute worst, or the very last. Fun will be had by all…

The Automated Pink Slip: Fred Reed Looks to the Future

The slightly uncertain, maybe scary future. That’s why I read Fred – he makes dissecting the unsettling a form of entertainment.

Economists are puzzled by this because they have no grasp of economics. They think the solution is to retrain displaced workers to do higher-tech things. This happy talk ignores that many of the replaced blue-collars are not smart enough to become IT managers and neurosurgeons, even if we had enough brain cancer, and that the jobs for which they would be retrained are rapidly being replaced themselves. Your can’t retrain fifty replaced clerks as programmers because the company already has programmers, and anyway only needs five.

Meanwhile our patriotic businessmen want to bring in millions of prefabricated unemployables to help us be out of work. See? Robots and humans working together. Cooperation is a key to success in almost every thing. Question: How much unemployment is needed for things to get ugly? When does it boil over?

He starts by discussing a new computer that writes better than any Barnard graduate. A little unnerving for those living off ink and keyboards.

My solution for the future? Professional Robot Killer! My services will not be cheap but you’ll gladly pay them. Give it a few years – or until next week…

Amazon, books, changes, economy, James Altucher, jobs, money

Earlier today I wrote an article about how sitting in a cubicle like a zombie will kill you. If you’re already undead, you might as well go all the way, right? In my story I mentioned that the job itself might be a problem.

Then I read a couple of pieces by James Altucher (one usually leads to another). You need to read them now. The first is 10 Reasons Your Boss Hates You. The Next is 10 Reasons You Have to Quit Your Job (in 2016). Go ahead, read them now – I’ll wait right here.

Okay, he’s right, right? The old economy is on life support. And the “old way” hasn’t really been around that long. At any rate it isn’t working anymore.

5) Income is Disappearing

In the past 25 years, real income has gone from $36,000 to $33,000 for people ages 18 to 35.

Why? Who knows. Because nobody cares.

Then the talking blobs on TV tell you you have to start saving during those years.

Meanwhile, the cost of living has gone up.

How do you save, when it costs more to LIVE, while the money coming in the bank is going down.

Society is being strangled. I don’t blame anyone. It’s not the government’s fault. It’s not Wall Street’s fault. Or Main Street’s fault.

Jobs were a myth from the beginning.

The Industrial Revolution standardized society so that factory workers would show up at the same time, have the same education, hit the same bolt on the same nut at the same time, and get paid every two weeks.

That’s the truth, good, bad or indifferent. I’m a fuddy-duddy. Yet, even I realize things are changing and must change. It’s not just incomes that are going down (away?). Home ownership is at the lowest level in over 50 years – only 62% of adults own a house. And, most of them don’t even own one – a bank owns it for them.

The whole economy is being shaken up. Facebook, today, passed Berkshire Hathaway in terms of market cap. Let that sink in for a second. Then again, many of you are reading this right now because you saw it on Facebook, not through one of Buffett’s companies.

I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and another, similar one today about how I publish words. To some, what I do seems like wizardry. Maybe it is in a sense. But, its academic and logistical, not magical. Me – computer – internet – Amazon – your computer, phone or bookshelf. Kind of like: cow – farmer – bottle – truck – grocery store – your fridge. Easy, huh?

The old economy is on life support and the funeral arrangements are now being made for the traditional publishing industry (and the bookstores). Meanwhile, Amazon keeps posting record profit after record profit. They capitalize on me and my computer and I on them. Heck, I’m preparing to give them two new amazing works to offer world-wide in a few days (weeks? – y’all know I’m slow). Then, I’m publishing more. And more after that.

If the world is changing, I’m going to make the most of it. I hope you do to.

New Year, Same Government

Alabama and Clemson are on a collision course for the College Football Championship. That’s good. The administration is on a collision course with the Second Amendment. That’s bad. Sorry, no Archie Campbell funnies to follow.

Hussein Obama has a list of new years resolutions at the top of which is banning guns. He can’t do it outright: the law and 100 million armed Americans are against him. But he will try to sneak in a few executive orders in an attempt to abridge your rights.

His efforts, coming next week, are aimed at closing loopholes (aka the law) by placing more innocent people under the government’s microscope. The government is nothing more than a giant series of lies.

Hussein Obama claims he wants to combat gun violence, that he will preserve the right to bear arms while keeping arms out of the hands of an “irresponsible, dangerous few.” Lies. Smoke and mirrors. He wants more state control over guns, your life and everything else.

If he wanted to stop the irresponsible and dangerous he would disband the standing army and disarm federal agents. Better yet he would start to dismantle the government entirely. It serves no honest, legitimate purpose. If he wanted to combat gun violence he would try to get more people to carry guns in more places. An armed society is more polite and far safer than the alternative.

The people are justifiably concerned about terrorists. If Obama cared he would round up and deport, imprison or execute the terrorists. He dies not care. At all. He wants more jihadi savages in America so he will import more, many more.

He wants more foreigners period. He wants more visas for them and less jobs for you – no jobs, really.

If the foreigners can’t come here, then he will ship the jobs and money to them, i.e. ObamaTrade.

And, what will the beloved Republicans do about all this? Not nothing. No. They will go right along with the plan. Paul “Blackbeard” Ryan and company have consistently supported Obama’s health care tax, his budgets, his wars, his spying, his job-destroying trade programs, his immigrant, terrorism invasion, and anything else he wants. It is what they want. More power, less freedom.

The gun rules and the visa swarm may end up in court. The black-robed Sayers will be thrilled to have something to do. The problem is that, as with any bi-polar person or group, there’s just no telling what they will do once the mess hits the bench.

No money, no jobs, no guns, no liberty: Happy new year from your psychotic friends in D.C.

America, Big Club, capitalism, college, communism, corporatism, debt, Economic collapse, Farnoosh Brock, government, James Alutcher, jobs, middle class, The People

If one diverts one’s attention from felons catching footballs or running for president, the signs of financial fallout and societal decay abound in America.

The middle class is broke and vanishing at an alarming rate. Forty percent of working Americans do not meet the $28,000 federal standard for poverty qualification. And, again, those are people who are working. The real rate of unemployment in this country is staggering – probably close to 20%. Those poor without jobs and those marginally employed make ends barely meet via debt and government subsidies. Almost 50 Million are on food stamps.

The government caused a lot of the problems. Fiat money backed by nothing, runaway spending, burdensome taxes and regulations, and job-destroying programs like NAFTA and ObamaTrade have filed the growth of the government, select corporations and a wealthy, well-connected few. The lower, middle and upper-middle classes have been run through the ringer.

Whole Industries are changing. Everything that can be outsourced overseas is. No jobs for us. Everything that can be automated is. No jobs. Insane levels of immigration pushes native citizens out of the labor force. No jobs.

The jobs that remain for the people are low paying, bereft of benefits, and, increasingly, temporary (permanently temporary).  Those jobs too are cut whenever possible.

For years, decades the prosperity script was: go to college; get a good company job; buy a nice house; buy a nice car, and; have a family. Today, there are few corporate jobs to be had and they treat you like shit and pay you similarly. All those other things can only be accomplished by going into ridiculous levels of debt. All this is encouraged by the government and the Big Club. Theirs is a bastardized version of capitalism – corporatism – as bad for the free as communism.

Increasingly, many of the formerly normal concepts have become worthless. College education isn’t anymore. Schools used to educate young people. Now they mold them into pathetic, emotionally challenged wimps. These folks are not fit for employment or much else. And, many (maybe most, now) who do get jobs are employed in areas which do not require formal education anyway. Again, its only those lucky enough to find the jobs.

America is on edge, a time bomb waiting to go off.  All that is needed is either a trigger event(s) or enough realization by the people of how had they’ve been shafted the bomb goes off. Unpleasant to contemplate.

Rather than attempt to avert the disaster our “leaders” do everything conceivable to hasten the day of reckoning. Stupidity and evil are constantly on display in D.C. and mirrored throughout larger society.

I have written about this before:

These troubles will ultimately resolve themselves. After the inevitable big national bankruptcy we will have the chance for a reset. This should include universal debt repudiation and a return to a real monetary and financial system based on the free market. If done right there will be no room or need for any government meddling.

This future fresh start is the silver lining to look forward too. Make the best of the wild ride until then.

I am optimistic about the future though maybe not the immediate future. What to do until then?

The best lesson I ever got in college came in the way of side advice from a professor, the legendary C. F. Floyd. He said, “get your life out of sync with the rest of the world as fast as possible.” If the rest of the world falls apart, you need not participate.

b0248deb731ac51fa6f939fdf31e8b8a

Unnatural and deadly. Google.

I’m a big fan of Jame Altucher and Farnoosh Brock, both of whom rail against college for college’s sake and conventional, mythical employment. See if you agree with their reasoning and if their ideas are compatible with your life.

Learn what you want to not what you “need” to. Don’t go into debt. Don’t support a government bent on killing you. Don’t sacrifice family time slaving for a soulless corporation which really hates you. Pay no heed to the entertainment/distraction industry and their efforts to blind you.

Change yourself a little and the Big changes you encounter won’t hurt as much. Be yourself. Be free.

Secrets of the Trade (and other Bullsh*t)

Recently I wrote of the coming wave of destructive evil from Washington (the latest, as that tide ever brings the same).  Courtesy of Barry Obama and John (the tan smoker) Boehner “your” federal government is moving towards new, secret, and purely ruinous foreign trade powers.

Frequently I deride the horrors of politicians and politics in general – see these links for details.  The New York Times and NPR report that, as of Friday, the malicious train of ObamaTrade has been temporarily derailed.  I say temporarily because things like this are usually a done deal once they start.

“Eighty-six Republicans voted for the program, more than double the 40 Democrats who supported it. But the trade adjustment assistance bill failed when 303 voted against it.

Republican leaders then passed, in a 219-to-211 vote, a stand-alone bill that would grant the president the trade negotiating authority he sought. But that measure cannot go to the president for his signature because the Senate version of the legislative package combined both trade adjustment and trade promotion.”  New York Times.

I was pleased the popular press reported on this issue – they lacked the zeal these reserve for important stories (say, about Caitlyn Jenner) – but they did, at least, report.  I was a little dismayed they left off important reference information for the inquisitive public. The Bill in question is H.R. 1314(EAS), the Trade Act of 2015.

This gem of K Street legalese would, among other things, amend the Tax Code of 1986 in order to help large organizations make more money at your expense.  It would also grant the President new and unprecedented unilateral trade powers.  Pay no heed to that Congressional consent nonsense in the Constitution.

Get a load of this:

(b) Principal Trade Negotiating Objectives-
(1) TRADE IN GOODS- The principal negotiating objectives of the United States regarding trade in goods are–
(A) to expand competitive market opportunities for exports of goods from the United States and to obtain fairer and more open conditions of trade, including through the utilization of global value chains, by reducing or eliminating tariff and nontariff barriers and policies and practices of foreign governments directly related to trade that decrease market opportunities for United States exports or otherwise distort United States trade; and
(B) to obtain reciprocal tariff and nontariff barrier elimination agreements, including with respect to those tariff categories covered in section 111(b) of the Uruguay Round Agreements Act (19 U.S.C. 3521(b)).
(2) TRADE IN SERVICES- (A) The principal negotiating objective of the United States regarding trade in services is to expand competitive market opportunities for United States services and to obtain fairer and more open conditions of trade, including through utilization of global value chains, by reducing or eliminating barriers to international trade in services, such as regulatory and other barriers that deny national treatment and market access or unreasonably restrict the establishment or operations of service suppliers.
(B) Recognizing that expansion of trade in services generates benefits for all sectors of the economy and facilitates trade, the objective described in subparagraph (A) should be pursued through all means, including through a plurilateral agreement with those countries willing and able to undertake high standard services commitments for both existing and new services.

            – H.R. 1314, Sec. 102. TRADE NEGOTIATING OBJECTIVES.

More:

(4) AGGREGATE REDUCTION; EXEMPTION FROM STAGING-
(A) AGGREGATE REDUCTION- Except as provided in subparagraph (B), the aggregate reduction in the rate of duty on any article which is in effect on any day pursuant to a trade agreement entered into under paragraph (1) shall not exceed the aggregate reduction which would have been in effect on such day if–
(i) a reduction of 3 percent ad valorem or a reduction of 1/10 of the total reduction, whichever is greater, had taken effect on the effective date of the first reduction proclaimed under paragraph (1) to carry out such agreement with respect to such article; and
(ii) a reduction equal to the amount applicable under clause (i) had taken effect at 1-year intervals after the effective date of such first reduction.
(B) EXEMPTION FROM STAGING- No staging is required under subparagraph (A) with respect to a duty reduction that is proclaimed under paragraph (1) for an article of a kind that is not produced in the United States. The United States International Trade Commission shall advise the President of the identity of articles that may be exempted from staging under this subparagraph.
(5) ROUNDING- If the President determines that such action will simplify the computation of reductions under paragraph (4), the President may round an annual reduction by an amount equal to the lesser of–
(A) the difference between the reduction without regard to this paragraph and the next lower whole number; or
(B) 1/2 of 1 percent ad valorem.

            – H.R. 1314, Sec. 103, TRADE AGREEMENTS AUTHORITY.

Make any sense to you?  Of course not. And, this is the part that is open for public inspection.  A shadow bill, the real law, is still locked up and under armed guard in the Capital basement vault.  What kind of government operates like this?  Sadly, “ours’ does.

secret-doors-matt-boyle-breitbart-640x480

(Breitbart.)

Members of the respective houses of Congress can (allegedly) enter the vault to read the shadow text.  Rand Paul did so.  “’I think I am not supposed to reveal the details of it, but I can tell you it was about 800 pages long,’ Paul said.” Breitbart.  “Paul said he thinks the secretive process makes it look like the government has “something to hide” and that he thinks if Obama opened up the process it’d make it easier for several Senators—and the American people—to truly understand what it is they’re voting on.” Id.

They do have something to hide.  They always do.  The details are in the vault, so to speak.  The fact that a U.S. Senator has to keep mum about the text demonstrates this without question.

Another telling facet is the desperation among Republicans and the White House to pass this filth.  “The fate of the trade legislation now depends on Obama’s ability, along with business-friendly interests, to persuade dozens of Democrats to switch their votes before a planned do-over vote early next week.”  Washington Post.

The President is literally pleading with his own party to help him screw the American People.  He’s already won over many of the “loyal opposition.”  At a Washington Nationals ballgame last week “a bizarre scene unfolded as the crowd crammed inside Nationals Park lurched into a chant about the legislation. ‘TPA! TPA! TPA!’ chanted Republican congressional aides seated near the first base dugout when Obama stepped onto the field at the top of the fourth inning.”  Fox News. “TPA” refers to Trade Prostitution Act.

Another telling feature is the desires of large U.S. corporate interests to pass the Bill. The more power their political puppets have, the more money they can make.  You and your retirement plans be damned.  “’Manufacturers will not back down in this fight for expanded trade, for the future of our industry and our country,’ the National Association of Manufacturers said in a statement.”  Business Leaders React With Dismay to Defeat of Trade Bill, New York Times.  Naturally, they have yachts to buy.

Some out here in the real country get it.  “Do you remember back in the 1990s when the United States entered into the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)? And the subsequent Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA)? These trade agreements have not worked out well for American workers. American jobs went to Mexico. American workers were laid off and communities devastated. American companies, just to increase their profits, built their production plants in Mexico and paid their workers pennies on the dollar for their labor.”  Remember NAFTA and CAFTA? Well, here comes SHAFTA, Economy in Crisis.

Unfortunately, we have not learned our lesson — even after two decades of failed trade agreements. Right now Congress is considering entering into another trade agreement with South Pacific countries named the Trans Pacific Partnership, otherwise known as TPP. However, this trade agreement is even more onerous than previous failed trade agreements.

* The TPP was constructed in secret by corporations. Congress and the public had no input. This is fundamentally undemocratic and undermines transparency in government.

* It is a trade deal that increases corporate power and CEO bonuses.

* Thousands of jobs out-sourced to countries that do not respect human rights or worker’s rights.

* It allows transnational corporations to sue countries if they believe they have been harmed (sometimes speculatively) in a trade agreement written by corporations and behind closed doors.

* Expands the deregulation of banks, hedge funds and insurance companies. Remember the Wall Street crash of 2008 due to deregulation? Regulations keep corporations honest and prevent them from harming us.

* Harms environmental regulations in counties that are part of the TPP.

The corporations are now done writing their secret trade agreement, and Congress now has to vote up or down on the law. The Obama administration is seeking “fast track” authority from Congress in order to complete the negotiations. This means there will be no committee hearings, expert testimony or amendments. The Obama administration is taking this anti-democratic approach because they know if this treaty was debated, it would never become law.

              – SHAFTA, Id.

Read that again.  Let it sink in.

Last week, prior to the vote and temporary corporate profit defeat, I called my Congress Critter, one Rick Allen, for his input.  While I live in his District, he does not necessarily represent me.  Since the departure of Ron Paul I have had no semblance of representation in Washington.  So it goes.

Amerika being what it is these day I was unable to speak directly with my employee. Rather, I had a conversation with a polite young fellow named Eric.  He laughed and admitted, yes, much of the Bill is secret. (F’ing hilarious!) He did note that I could read all about the public parts – see Thomas quotes, above.  True to his position and the nature of his work he would not say definitively whether my boy Allen was in favor of sending more jobs oversees and more money to Wall Street.

As an aside, Allen did vote against the Bill.  Then he immediately voted to keep it alive for future consideration.  How very political of him.

Eric was well aware of the TPA chant at the baseball game.  Though he was not present he did state that several of his office mates were.  I warned him of what Marcus Aurelius said about this kind of thing.  The Roman leader and philosopher was solidly against jingoistic public displays of partisan passion.  My warning was likely lost – then and now.

If you care you may contact some staffer of your “representative,” whoever that may be.  Just click this little link to locate your dedicated servant: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/.

You may be able to visually pick him/her out of the following picture.  This photograph is of a general Congressional pow-wow over the Bill last week:

The Evil of Two Lessers

I’ve been rambling much recently about the bottomless idiocy of the political set and their supporters among the public.  Today I was reminded of the old electoral saying, “picking the lesser of two evils.”  I changed it about for my title in order to make it more truthful.  Voters today have two nominal choices: filthy, disgusting Democrats and filthy, disgusting Republicans.  After years of studying these two groups the only difference I can see is in their names.

This morning I read more about the nefarious plans of John Boehner (Republican) and Barack Obama (Democrat). These two criminals (different parties, mind you) have discovered there are several jobs left in the U.S. and have crafted a new trade bill designed to stamp out those jobs.  I say designed but I can’t be sure.  The details of the law are secret.  So secret that the bill is currently locked up in the Capital basement.

Allegedly this law would give the President new dictatorial powers over global trade (read: to ship out American jobs and impoverish the nation).  Why on earth does the most powerful man in the world need more power?  And if your Republicans are philosophically at odds with the Democrats, why the mad rush to help them gain that power?

In truth these two groups are one and work solely for their own ends.  You and I are merely their pawns.  Please don’t actively support them and their ever-spreading evil.
