It’s a slow day in a slow week coming off of one of the slowest weeks in recent memory, here at the old blog. This month is shaping up (down) to be one of the lowest-traffic affairs in years. A slow year, under various shadow bans, in an age of declining literacy. Yet and still, tomorrow I’ll have another gem of a column for those bold, loyal readers who happen by. Stay tuned.

We’re also on an imminent approach to POST 5,000!!! And the Ten Year Anniversary. And, accordingly, some likely changes. Stay tuned.

No changes, whatsoever!

For the generation of Americans not yet old enough to drive, the demographic future has arrived.

For the first time, nonwhites and Hispanics were a majority of people under age 16 in 2019, an expected demographic shift that will grow over the coming decades, according to figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday.

“We are browning from bottom up in our age structure,” said William Frey, a senior fellow at The Brookings Institution. “This is going to be a diversified century for the United States, and it’s beginning with this youngest generation.”

This is fantastic news! But, we’d better get those reparations paid sooner than later or else, you know…

Thank you, Unsung Hero!

Representative Emanuel Celler (D-NY, 1888-1981) was the longest-serving Congressman from New York (1924-1965). During his first term in the House, Celler was present when Congress completed legislating the highly restrictive “national origins” system limiting immigration to the United States to under 400,000 a year based on country of origin. The goal of the legislation was to keep America an Anglo-Saxon country. Celler spent the next 40 years seeking to overturn the Johnson Acts and finally did so in 1965 as a co-sponsor of the Hart-Celler Act.

He finally did so! The (positive!) results are showing up, belatedly.

I’m not sure if there’s a statue of the Great Hero anywhere in this dying country. If not, we need to build one quickly so the mob can tear it down and behead it. (Celler’s 1965 Act was not that LGBTP friendly – especially to the “Ps.” And, he was (finally!) cast from office for not being sufficiently feministic.

The start of the now torturous venture of deciphering the census numbers, HERE. Previously, in the last century, this information was kept in bound form in libraries, copious but straightforward. Around 2000, when the interwebs hit their useful stride, it was available in an easy to use format online. Now … dig. It’s a done deal; there’s no reason to try and hide it anymore.

They’re REALLY changing. More stuff the media never reports.

The consequences of past actions and the imminent failure of a global paradigm that’s dominated human existence for decades can no longer be delayed. They’re coming to the fore as I write this and yet all the media and most people can focus on are the symptoms of failure. Past events lead to future events and there are in fact consequences for irresponsible actions. The various things people panic about on a daily basis are typically symptoms that can be traced back to a macro system failure, but nobody wants to talk about that. It’s too big, too daunting and seemingly impossible to fix absent collapse.

Yet outrage, anger and a cry to “do something” about symptoms of a much bigger problem will only result in an even more entrenched surveillance state going forward. Focusing on symptoms is not just short-sighted and a waste of energy, but it’s also likely to lead toward more authoritarian solutions and tendencies over time. Misdiagnosing a disease can be as deadly for a civilization as it can be for an individual.

Say! Isn’t there a swell election coming next year? That’ll be your chance to fix everything, once and forever. And, I think football run until then, so it’s all good, right?

I had a high-energy Sunday. Much was accomplished.

The first change, here, is minimal, though substantive:

As you might have noticed above, the Header modification is now: “Thoughts on Freedom and The West.” This, as opposed to:

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.33.29 PM

This has been the general theme, anyway, for a long time. Now it’s codified. Yes, I’m still concerned with Natural Law. The cigars will continue at random intervals as will the general rambling. Also,

I moved the TPC link up the sidebar and the FP link down:

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.39.28 PM

If I’m honest, TPC is, now, where my better commentary is found. FP is limping along – and likely will for a little longer, bar some reinvigoration. Natural changes.

And, just below those links, one finds the heralding of A NEW BOOK (SOON)!!

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.19.48 PM

I have solicited a fitting forward from a fitting commentator. This should run about 150 pages or so. Hopefully, the e-version will be more readable than that of THLCB; the high-quality trade paperback will be awesome. Ready the credit cards…

The new, to-come entry has been entered on the updated Books Page. Peruse that, if you like.

Yesterday, I kicked off some semi-heavy posting with a social media update. My de-linking from Farcebook was multi-faceted (and great!): the great algorithm changes of 2017-2018 dealt me quiet the traffic blow. That coupled with the spying and privacy invasion and the fact that social media marketing is virtually useless led me to kill the FB account. Still, I’m missing a lot of clicks.

I appreciate that those who now visit are hardcore fans (and perverts Googling in for the #hotpants post – geeze, don’t think I haven’t noticed the pattern [still grateful for the visits]). And, by my admittedly weak standards, 2018 still counts as a “great” year along with 2015, 2016, and 2017. Something needs improvement though. Working on it.

The eventual syndication of my TPC column should help, as will increased book-related queries. I have an email list that I have never deployed. Honestly, it needs a cleanup and I need to learn how to use a list. Progress…

Other items, briefly:

More fiction coming;

Pen Names cometh;

A new alt email has been secured;

What to do with Youtube and videos in general;

I’m mindful about the old Patreon page (ignore it for now);

The ads are problematic, yes; the mobile app is horribly clogged; with a traffic increase I should be able to update $$$ and clean that up while keeping the site free;

etc.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by and reading through these changes – for the better in the near future.

Thanks,

Perrin

America, changes, Christians, demographics, immigration, whites

We’ve come a long way since 1790. Sometime between then and now, some lies were told. Here’s one from Ted “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy:

“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…

Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset… Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia…

In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think… The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”

-Tipsy Teddy on the Immigration Act of 1965.

Only it hasn’t worked out as promised (and what from government does?). White Christian Americans, 80% of population in 1970 and nearly 90% in 1950, are now a minority (43%). But hey, like Ted said, “It’s just water under the bridge, Mary Jo.”

nimbus-image-1504724562836

Diver examines the wreck of the Posterity*.

*This being the same “Posterity” from the Preamble of the Constitution, the “British Brethren” of the Declaration of Independence. And it wasn’t all Ted’s fault; he is just quote-worthy.

**And even now’s there’s DACA and the GOP Jellyfish. Shades of ’86 amnesty fall? Or, is that the curtain?

Amazon, books, changes, economy, James Altucher, jobs, money

Earlier today I wrote an article about how sitting in a cubicle like a zombie will kill you. If you’re already undead, you might as well go all the way, right? In my story I mentioned that the job itself might be a problem.

Then I read a couple of pieces by James Altucher (one usually leads to another). You need to read them now. The first is 10 Reasons Your Boss Hates You. The Next is 10 Reasons You Have to Quit Your Job (in 2016). Go ahead, read them now – I’ll wait right here.

Okay, he’s right, right? The old economy is on life support. And the “old way” hasn’t really been around that long. At any rate it isn’t working anymore.

5) Income is Disappearing

In the past 25 years, real income has gone from $36,000 to $33,000 for people ages 18 to 35.

Why? Who knows. Because nobody cares.

Then the talking blobs on TV tell you you have to start saving during those years.

Meanwhile, the cost of living has gone up.

How do you save, when it costs more to LIVE, while the money coming in the bank is going down.

Society is being strangled. I don’t blame anyone. It’s not the government’s fault. It’s not Wall Street’s fault. Or Main Street’s fault.

Jobs were a myth from the beginning.

The Industrial Revolution standardized society so that factory workers would show up at the same time, have the same education, hit the same bolt on the same nut at the same time, and get paid every two weeks.

That’s the truth, good, bad or indifferent. I’m a fuddy-duddy. Yet, even I realize things are changing and must change. It’s not just incomes that are going down (away?). Home ownership is at the lowest level in over 50 years – only 62% of adults own a house. And, most of them don’t even own one – a bank owns it for them.

The whole economy is being shaken up. Facebook, today, passed Berkshire Hathaway in terms of market cap. Let that sink in for a second. Then again, many of you are reading this right now because you saw it on Facebook, not through one of Buffett’s companies.

I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and another, similar one today about how I publish words. To some, what I do seems like wizardry. Maybe it is in a sense. But, its academic and logistical, not magical. Me – computer – internet – Amazon – your computer, phone or bookshelf. Kind of like: cow – farmer – bottle – truck – grocery store – your fridge. Easy, huh?

The old economy is on life support and the funeral arrangements are now being made for the traditional publishing industry (and the bookstores). Meanwhile, Amazon keeps posting record profit after record profit. They capitalize on me and my computer and I on them. Heck, I’m preparing to give them two new amazing works to offer world-wide in a few days (weeks? – y’all know I’m slow). Then, I’m publishing more. And more after that.

If the world is changing, I’m going to make the most of it. I hope you do to.

AJC, changes, college football, ESPN, Go Dawgs!, Mark Richt, SEC, University of Georgia

Four decades now have found me a University of Georgia football fan. I faintly recall the last national championship (1980). I vividly remember those dreary years of my actual attendance under Coach Goff. I was as thrilled as any with the arrival of Mark Richt and his early successes.

He restored the Dawgs to dominance in the toughest conference in college ball. He put UGA back in the national spotlight. That was then. Then seems an eternity ago.

Ten years have passed without an SEC title. Only once was a national title ever a possibility and that was blown with a bungled play in the final seconds against Alabama. The costly mistake was the result of poor (comparatively) coaching and failure to execute – hallmarks of Richt’s tenure. The last few seasons, again by comparison, have felt dismal.

Georgia under Richt has established it simply cannot beat good teams in big games. This, despite the yearly hosting of near NFL level talent.

The time for change has come and, as much as I respect the man, I welcome Richt’s departure. As the ESPN headline announced: “Mark Richt won a lot of games at Georgia, just not the right ones.”

The excuses for keeping Richt, all based on fear and acceptance of mediocrity, were many. “Who’s gonna replace him?” Someone. The UGA job is the biggest opening in the country. The excuse-mongers call those of us who want to win “fair weather fans” no matter our vested interest in the school and team (and despite a lack of such weather for a long time). We call them the kool-aid drinkers. They’re usually punch drunk, dreaming about “next year” – which never comes.

In addition to bad coaching UGA developed another problem: gleeful acceptance of second, third, 25th place – no desire to be the best. An AJC poll relayed the depth of this issue.

The future can very bright if the fans will unite behind excellence and refuse to accept anything but. Time will tell. Maybe not next year but we will see.

American Revolution, changes, life, The Happy Little Cigar Book

This post concerns several different topics. Please read to the end.

I just published a short article about the UN’s scheme to register and track all the Earth’s peoples. Tyrants will forever seek to enslave otherwise free people. Some things never change. Most do.

Yesterday I saw a friend I have not seen or heard from in several years. It turns out he had a heart attack and then developed a thyroid issue. He has to take medication which controls the problem but renders him tired and listless. It was a reminder of mortality. These changes have not been pleasant.

The heart attack was brought on by stress from his management job at a local factory. Stress is a constant and sometimes wreaks havoc on mind and body. However, he took time to reevaluate life and now enjoys a new, stress-free position. That was a good change.

Sometimes changes seem bad but are, in truth, improvements to be welcomed. I read a story about the Boston Tea Party which falls into that category.

I have long considered ulterior motives behind the American Revolution. This article puts those motives in succinct context. Sometimes it is better to know the truth even if it is at odds with what you thought true.

I spent the weekend revising The Happy Little Cigar Book. The printed edition. I made many changes I hope will improve the reading. It should finally be available at the end of this week.

How I lost Over Forty Pounds And Started Changing My Life, Part I.

Not long ago I posted a brief rant about losing weight, getting in shape, and threatening to steal a piece of exercise equipment.  That last bit cost me a visit and a stern warning from the Sheriff.  Luckily, in spite of my dieting, I happened to have several fresh donuts on hand.  Wheeew.

As of the last time I weighed in I have officially lost a little over 40 pounds!  That is a lot – almost as much as my daughter weighs.  I started out in late September at 238 lbs and after losing almost 17% of my original weight I’m down to just under 198.  It is the first time I’ve been under 200 in almost twenty years.  I hate to admit it, but back in 2007 I tipped the scales at 255.  At that point I knew I had a problem and I managed to shrink back a little though not nearly enough.

Like I said last time, what I’m doing is not a diet – it’s a life change.  Life is funny.  As a child I alternated between being tall and skinny one year and husky the next.  Luckily, around eight grade I evened out at mostly skinny.  In high school I began to lift weights in addition to those other activities that keep young people annoyingly in shape.

Once I got to college I began to SERIOUSLY hit the weights, alternating between power-lifting and bodybuilding.  I also did a bit of trail running.  By the time I graduated I weighed in at around 230 muscular pounds.  Then for the better part of two decades I did absolutely nothing – except eat.  Gradually, my muscles gave way to rolls of fat, I started shuffling about, and I felt terrible.  I dieted for my wedding and several other times I made attempts to reclaim my former glory.  Each was a failure.  Why?  Because I didn’t really want to be fit.  Like any good American I wanted to take it easy, eat burgers, and drink beer.  No wonder we’re the most obese people in human history.

For the education of anyone else interested, I have decided to explain how I accomplished my recent success.  Please understand I am not a professional in this area.  I was a certified personal trainer in college but I never really made great use of that credential.  I am not in a position to relate scientific methodology here.  If you think you have a serious problem you may want to consult a doctor or a trainer.

If you are just ready for a change I suggest you start by reading this.  I am devoting a whole chapter in The Time Given to the subject also.  I would consult with your doctor just to be on the safe side.  Then maybe with his guidance you can work with a nutritionist or trainer.  Be mindful a lot of what I’m going to tell you is more mental and emotional than physical.  And, much of the physical stuff doesn’t sound like a training program either.  By the way, while this process has been fun for the most part, I have not found it necessarily easy.

Having blabbed all that, let me set the stage for what I’ve done:

2012 was a very difficult year for me.  I found myself swamped by several of those great troubles that go along with life in the modern world.  Good things happened too, but good things often come with a stress all their own.  Mixing good and bad together day by day and month by month, I was “down” to say the least.

In early September of last year I tried a big criminal case.  It had consumed much of my year and I ended up presenting before a Jury.  I thought my client was the most sympathetic individual on earth and the matter would be a slam dunk for us.  The Jury thought otherwise.  We lost.  I’ve tried lots of cases before and I have lost a few.  None stung like this one did.  I still can’t believe it happened the way it did and sooner or later I plan to tell that story of injustice to the enlightened public; I’ve contacted two heavy-weight freedom advocates for assistance.

Back in September I hit a low I’ve never experienced before.  I don’t think I talked to anyone or did anything for about a week.  Fearing I was slipping into major depression I consulted with my doctor.  It was during the appointment weigh-in that I discovered my heft; I had assumed I was something like 215 or 220 at most.  The rest of the appointment was a success.  The doc ordered me to make major changes if I wanted to improve my life station and my health.  What he said were things I really knew the whole time.  But, sometimes it helps to hear it from someone else.

I set out to make the change.  Maybe it was the lingering shock of the trial defeat and all else that had befallen me or maybe it was something else but, I immediately began to lose weight.  This was mainly due to the fact that I ate almost nothing.  I used to love to eat – anything and everything.  Back in college I could chow down on a whole large pizza and still maintain a healthy shape.  Things changed over time.  Big meals became my enemy.

Now, suddenly, I had no appetite.  I wasn’t even hungry nor conscious of my lack of eating until one day when I developed a case of the shakes.  I then realized I had probably eaten twice in the past four or five days.  Realizing that wasn’t healthy I forced myself to nibble here and there.  The weight kept coming off.  People began to comment and ask what I was doing.  I honestly answered, “nothing.”

Once I dropped into the 220s I made the decision to not simply decrease my calories (as was the case anyway) but to alter what I ate.  Between October and December I figure I cut those calories in half – down from 2500 to 3000 per day to about 1500 or so.  The weight kept coming off.

I changed the food I ate.  Studies have shown that you can lose weight eating pure junk-food as long as you eat the right amount.  The numbers make sense.  However, I really don’t like junk food and I am suspicious of the long-term effects of such dieting.  I embarked into “healthy” eating.  Not carrot juice and tofu or the like.  I just cut out the crap – like sodas, heavy bread and pasta, and snacking.  I like meat and I eat a good variety.  Instead of having two pork chops as before, now I stop at one.  I like fruits and veggies and I eat a great variety of those.  All things in moderation.  I suppose the food part is a balancing act and each person’s needs are different.  I have stumbled upon what works well for me.  You might need that professional help I mentioned earlier.  If you do, don’t hesitate to get it.

Food is not the only important item of consumption.  Humans must have water to live and I drink a great deal of the stuff.  When I work out I drink H20 constantly.  I drink it at home and at the office and most other places.  Water performs many miraculous functions for the body and when you drink enough things are well-regulated.

Speaking of drinks, over my lifetime I have developed a liking for strong coffee and excellent ale.  Coffee in the morning is a great pick me up.  However, I have found that one or two cups does the job fine – no need to drink a pot.

Overconsumption of coffee and other caffeine products leads to the jitters, energy crashes, headaches, and it reeks havoc on certain natural body chemicals.  Not being a professional I still understand that too much caffeine inhibits cortisol production which slows down fat burning.  I may have got that all wrong but now that I drink less of the stuff I feel better and have more energy.

As for alcohol, I particularly like strong, dark and flavorful ales, porters and stouts.   I honestly enjoy the tastes of such beers and I find them a pleasant way to relax at the end of the day.  They also are a great source of calories, some are 300 to 400 or more per bottle.  The solution I have settled on, just like with food and coffee, is to cut back to a reasonable quantity.  Moderation.  If you have a problem with alcohol this is a great chance to get help, by the way.  The Bible talks about enjoyment in moderation.  If you can’t moderate, it’s probably best to abstain.

It’s funny.  Once you cut back on these things and get used to getting by on less, you don’t miss them at all.

In addition to drinking plenty of water I also take a complete multi-vitamin once a day to supplement any nutrients I might otherwise miss.  I have considered adding fish oil to the regime but I don’t know much about it and what I’m doing seems to work for me.

Let’s see.  We must have food or we die within about 30 days or so.  We can do without water for around 3 days.  Air!  We cease moving without air in around 3 minutes.  Everyone breathes subconsciously.  Did you know you can learn to breathe better?  I read Dr. Andrew Weil’s book Eight Weeks to Optimum Health and he discusses the importance of proper breathing and the techniques to do so.  They’re easy.  Essentially, it’s taking longer, deeper breaths of air.  This allows more oxygen to absorb into the blood.  The more oxygen in the blood, the better the body functions.  Deep breathing also performs the magic trick of killing stress.  Interestingly, de-stressing allows for better breathing.

I also decided to give up worrying.  It’s pointless.  I’m not completely there yet but The Time Given has another chapter dedicated to the issue.  Stress and worry feed off of each other and both take their toll.  Stress cannot be completely eliminated from life, indeed some stress is good for you.  You need to eliminate or counter the bad stress in order to be happy.  Plan and carry out those tasks necessary to get unpleasant things resolved.  Write off or hand off to God those things you simply can’t handle.  And, most importantly, don’t fret over any of it.  Laugh even.

Another stress and fat fighter so many modern people neglect is adequate sleep.  I sleep better now than I have in years.  The results are cumulative.  It’s also important to stretch daily.  Dogs and cats stretch all the time and pound for pound they’re usually more energetic than us.  Emulate them.  Stretching has all kinds of benefits.

The word count is getting up there and I haven’t even touched on the physical exercise part of my routine.  Next time I will discuss weight training, cardio training and really cool stuff like the steam room and that awesome inversion table.  I’ll also cover having more fun, being productive, avoiding negativity and making more positive changes.  Stay tuned!
