It has been a minute or two since I reviewed a cigar. Here goes:

Today I stumbled upon the latest incarnation of Nick Perdomo’s masterful Habano blend. I naturally picked a maduro in search of a medium-bodied, flavorful smoke. I found it in grand style. Take a look at this beauty:

The new kid.

It is an update on the older blend. Maybe you have seen the original Habano in your local Humidor.

IMG_20151209_151758597_HDR

Old school.

The new sticks are bourbon barrel aged. I must admit my limited pallet is unable to independently discern the difference. Knowing what I know now I, psychosomatically, have noted a slightly richer note or two. Honestly, it is just a very good Cigar.

This smoke has much in common with Perdomo’s legendary, older Habano line. I wonder if they will continue side by side? It also maintains the character of the newer Small Batch and Craft Beer series. By the way, this new development should pair very well with the rich flavors of those delightful Christmas ales which are appearing right now. What great timing if that was in fact the plan.

There’s something about the band and (more remotely) the taste which recalls the old reserve cabinet series of ten or so years ago. Maybe those blissful wonders are due for a comeback.

Do yourself a favor this Christmas season and try the new Habano. You will not regret the choice. It may just be the Happy Little Cigar of the year.

Christmas, The Happy Little Cigar Book

I took my daughter for a walk by the river this afternoon. On the way home we passed scores and scores of shoppers camped around the big box retailers. They’re out early looking for black Friday bargains.

What will you be getting that special someone for Christmas? Planning to fight the zombie hoards tomorrow for another television? Another phone? Some other gadgets that will be obsolete by June?

Nah. You’re smarter than that. Give the gift of The Happy Little Cigar Book! It’s a timeless classic and the perfect size for the stockings.

Click HERE to order from Amazon right now! All from the comfort of your couch. The game’s on. No zombies. Order one for everyone you know. $7.99 is a bargain no big box compete with. Did I mention no zombies?

Amazon, books, publishing, The Happy Little Cigar Book, Vox Day

Traditional book publishers are rapidly losing market share. This is bad news (overdue) for them and great news for the rest of us. These established houses hold both authors and the reading public hostage: writers, by limiting royalties and holding rights and; the public, by limiting available titles to what editorial staffs see as worthy.

The technology age has shattered the old monopoly. Now, even mid-wit, cost smoking bloggers can publish books – immediately available to readers. Independent presses, print on demand services, Amazon and Kindle are seizing a huge market share while opening competition and choices.

Fortune reports:

According to the figures from Author Earnings — which are based in part on regular samples of Amazon sales data — what’s really been happening is that the market share of established publishers has been declining, while sales of independently published e-books have been growing. In particular, sales of books that don’t even have industry standard ISBN numbers have increased.

Look at this chart:

aap-unit-sales

Fortune.

Vox Day notes the traditional industry is collapsing.

This is a serious problem for the major publishers because ebook sales are a literally less-than-zero-sum game at this point in time. Regardless, it’s not so much the direct competition that threatens to do the big publishers in as it is the new X-factor in ebook sales, which is Kindle Unlimited. Notice which two types of publishers have been doing well since the KU change: Amazon and Small to Medium Publishers.

Good news for you! If I had gone with a dinosaur publishing company, I would still be waiting on someone’s approval. You, many of you, would not be reading The Happy Little Cigar Book right now.

As is, just today, I received 100 copies for local distribution and signing events. Then there is Amazon. Hooray! Order when ready, friends.

Today I finally got the paperback edition of The Happy Little Cigar Book out! You can buy a copy:

On Amazon (soon – link going in and out tonight);

And at CreateSpace.

Of course you’re welcome to buy multiple copies at both sites – encouraged even.

BookCoverImage

Go with the paperback for now. The Kindle edition needs some revision and a complete reformatting. I bought a book and some software for that! I’m also working on some signing events, maybe a tour. I’ll have hard copies then and there.

What a day! I haven’t really slept in a few days. Zombie like… Thanks for all the support, everyone. I started a Facebook fan page which if off to a great start. There’s also been a substantial uptick in blog visits.

In addition to scores of blog drafts I need to work on I have dozens of books and book ideas in the hopper. This is the humble beginning.

I need to sleep soon….

American Revolution, changes, life, The Happy Little Cigar Book

This post concerns several different topics. Please read to the end.

I just published a short article about the UN’s scheme to register and track all the Earth’s peoples. Tyrants will forever seek to enslave otherwise free people. Some things never change. Most do.

Yesterday I saw a friend I have not seen or heard from in several years. It turns out he had a heart attack and then developed a thyroid issue. He has to take medication which controls the problem but renders him tired and listless. It was a reminder of mortality. These changes have not been pleasant.

The heart attack was brought on by stress from his management job at a local factory. Stress is a constant and sometimes wreaks havoc on mind and body. However, he took time to reevaluate life and now enjoys a new, stress-free position. That was a good change.

Sometimes changes seem bad but are, in truth, improvements to be welcomed. I read a story about the Boston Tea Party which falls into that category.

I have long considered ulterior motives behind the American Revolution. This article puts those motives in succinct context. Sometimes it is better to know the truth even if it is at odds with what you thought true.

I spent the weekend revising The Happy Little Cigar Book. The printed edition. I made many changes I hope will improve the reading. It should finally be available at the end of this week.

The proof draft.

Enjoy the changes.
