Reviewing the New Cigar Warning Labels (With Added Warning)

The gullible American people and their Chicken Little politicritters love a good epidemic. One woman gets Zika? Epidemic. Someone run over by a texting driver? Epidemic. Banksters and pols loot 99% of the value out of the Dollar while squashing civil liberties? Epid … oops, nevermind that one…

I just read about the next great epidemic – Benzos! Valium reminds some doctor a lot of the opioid crisis! Crisis. Epidemic. Same thing. We’ll need a new law and some more regs! Maybe the FDA can get around to that once they cure another great epidemic – pregnant women smoking cigars…

Come August 10th, retail cigars (to include individual units) must be accompanied by one of the following six warning labels: herein, my review:

WARNING: Cigar smoking can cause cancers of the mouth and throat, even if you do not inhale.

A lie. See explanation below.

WARNING: Cigar smoking can cause lung cancer and heart disease.

A lie. See immediately below.

WARNING: Cigars are not a safe alternative to cigarettes.

Part lie, part category error. Cigars are safe (FDA studies say so). However, they’re not an alternative to cigarettes, at all, with next to nothing in common except the burning aspect. Cigarettes are paper wrapped chemicals, tar, and, maybe, a little cheap tobacco. Cigars are pure, 100%, natural, organic, Earth-friendly, environmentally responsible tobacco from the best fields. Not just a lie, an eco-lie (very bad).

WARNING: Tobacco smoke increases the risk of lung cancer and heart disease, even in nonsmokers.

Yet another lie.

WARNING: Cigar use while pregnant can harm you and your baby.
or
SURGEON GENERAL WARNING: Tobacco Use Increases the Risk of Infertility, Stillbirth and Low Birth Weight.*

Now they involve the poor Surgeon General. This one is either a lie OR another false conflation. Again, it’s cigars, not cigarettes. And, women constitute something like 0.5% of all cigar smokers. Pregnant women are around, I’m guessing here, 0.000000%. Totally irrelevant and utterly stupid. I challenge the FDA to present one single case, ever, of any baby negatively affected by cigars. Scratch that. I challenge the FDA to pack up New Hampshire Avenue and just get the hell out of America and out our lives. I say they can’t do it. Let ’em prove me wrong!

WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.

Believe it, or not, this one is not a complete lie. Rather, it’s a false syllogism of sorts, in reverse, kind of. Like this:

Major premise: Nicotine is bad.

Minor premise: Cigars contain nicotine.

Conclusion: Warrants a warning.

Again, again, again … cigars differ in many ways from cigarettes. Premium cigar makers do not add additional nicotine (or anything else) to the wrappers, binders, or fillers that constitute that lovely leafy goodness. Said leaf by itself does, in fact, contain a little nicotine. But, so do: tea leaves, eggplants, potatoes, peppers, cauliflower, and tomatoes.

Do these eggplant-IQ’d busybodies go around warning mums to be about the dangers of real eggplants? Could be; it’s a big CFR… Yet another government, elsewhere – the Royal Society for Public Health – just determined that scary, addictive nicotine is “no more dangerous than the caffeine in a cup of coffee.”

I get it, I get it. Warning labels on coffee come next…

With all these warnings floating around, I thought I might add one that isn’t based on complete BS. This:

****

GOVERNMENT WARNING!

Government is the most dangerous non-natural thing in existence, possibly more destructive than a gamma-ray burst. Government is not a safe alternative to freedom.

-or-

Take your labels and shove ’em.

******

Feel free to post that by the cash register.

The Nuclear Option: Highest Level of Gun Control Hysteria

In this video…

… one of the alarmed Mad Marxist Marchers asks, “If I can get an AR-15 what’s to stop me from getting a nuclear weapon?” Okay, I haven’t heard that one in a while. But I have heard it. I was asked the same thing about five years ago when I participated in a 2A panel at a college event.

The answers are several but, mostly simply, it’s: “price.” Price, you idiot. Nukes are too damned expensive for just about anyone this side of a nation-state to afford. My sources tell me that a single nuclear bomb, not including delivery system, prices out at around $200 Million. And that’s for an entity that already has a production system in place. A freelance warhead would range into the Billion$$.

I know these people are somewhat poor in the math skills department. So here’s the juxtaposition: AR-15: $500-$1,000-ish; Nuclear bomb: $200,000,000 – $5,000,000,000-ish. You see, if the Soros Fund or some similar riotous inciter pays you $15 per hour to show up for a protest, then after a few protests you could afford the AR. At that rate it would take over 13 million hours to buy the cheapest nuke. That’s over 6,000 working years, just a few more than most people can live to expect. Sorry that I couldn’t find a cartoon or pictorial or something.

And that price structure assumes a totally free market with no legal restrictions on WMDs. We kind of have the opposite of that. Given those who could potentially afford such weapons, that might actually be a good thing. All of this assumes one of extraordinary wealth could assemble a willing team of those experts required to build the bomb. It assumes one could locate the rather rare and pricey materials. It assumes a lot. Too much. It’s a non-starter.

Maybe, instead of chasing phantoms of utter ridiculous mania, these people could concentrate on the smaller and simpler aspects of life – like NOT trashing the areas where they protest. Their rights, not yours. Your responsibilities, not theirs.

nimbus-image-1522086876244

Take out the trash! And those signs.

Back to the nukes and the precious, all-knowing, all-giving Nations, maybe they’re not the best owners of such devices themselves. Only two nuclear bombs have ever been used in open warfare. I can’t recall, just now, who that was dropping them. Anyway, they were used to unnecessarily kill a whole bunch of civilians. Who marched for those lives?

And for about 40 years the US, USSR, Britain, France, and China went test happy with those very expensive assault-style bombs. Some scientists suggest the corresponding increase in world cancer rates might not have been coincidental. Hmmm.

Maybe running to the government for solutions isn’t the best idea. Sometimes, and not just in the sky over Japan, the government is least worthy of trust. Frequently the state is in bed with the very criminals the grabbers should be blaming for terrorism and mass shootings. Two years ago, after Omar Mateen struck a blow for Jihad in Orlando, I suggested his family had a history of involvement in state terror schemes.

Now, we have hard proof of that, courtesy of the “Justice” Department.

So, in brief: stop worrying about what can’t exist; stop attacking freedom; stop worshipping the state, and; clean up your acts!

SJW Seeks “One Logical or Practical Reason” for Guns

Not that he would understand either logic or practicality.

Following the mass shooting in Las Vegas the Amerikan Sovinformburo has swung into high gear. Ban the guns! (Ban the private guns – government guns, as everyone knows, have never killed anyone. Trust us.)

An example: the local fish wrapper in Tampa ran a panic editorial piece yesterday: Las Vegas massacre cries out for response.

…

Paddock reportedly had 19 rifles with him at the hotel. Experts said the rapid gunfire sounded as though it came from automatic weapons, which are heavily regulated, or from semi-automatic weapons altered to keep firing with one squeeze of the trigger. Law-abiding citizens have no need to carry such firepower, and magazines that hold 30 rounds or more only make it easier to take more innocent lives.

The death tolls in these mass shootings are escalating at a rapid pace in recent years, and they are occurring in places that are part of the natural fabric of life. A movie theater. An elementary school. A university campus. A nightclub. Now an outdoor country concert attended by more than 20,000 people. There are again remarkable stories of heroic efforts by first responders and by citizens helping the injured and guiding the terrified to safety. But this time, there is no talk of how more guns could have saved lives.

The issues Congress should address are well-known: Ban assault-style rifles and limit the size of magazines. Expand background checks on guns purchased in so-called private sales, such as gun shows and over the Internet. Make it more difficult for people with mental health issues to buy guns. Flag anyone attempting to purchase a gun who is or has been under investigation for terrorism by any federal agency.

…

Hear that? You have no need for assault weapons. A propaganda organ newspaper says so. No need. And contrary to the experience of more than a few of you using larger magazines to fight off multiple attackers, those mags are only good for taking innocent lives. (Makes one wonder why even the government needs them, then.)

They may (or may not) finally have the angry white male shooter of their dreams. And, they may be correct that guns on the ground would not have made any positive difference – at least not the variety normally toted CCW. One size fits all, based on this (and only this) case.

No mention of the TN church shooting stopped by a good guy with a gun. Certainly no mention of who and what the shooter there was. No mention period. Like it never even happened. The other 1-2 million firearm defenses each year don’t happen either.

And they kind of slipped, I think, by throwing in the other recent high-profile shootings: those committed by ISIS soldiers, immigrants, and MK-Ultra descendant patients. No mind. Never let the truth get in the way of good communism.

And, for Gawd’s sake, never mention the 488 shooting murders in Chicago during the first nine months of this year alone – nor the 1,000’s of attendant non-lethal but illegal shootings. No Chicago. No Baltimore. No Atlanta. No LA. No Miami. Nor any of the other rapidly deteriorating third world ghettos. Those lives must not matter. Those gun laws certainly did not work. The possibility that something other than the inanimate guns themselves might cause the evil must never be consider or even mentioned.

We know three things about SJW types:

1) They always lie;

2) They always double down; and

3) They always project.

Here’s the prelude to a living example: “Brutus813” (likely not a real name) wrote the following comment on the Tampa editorial:

Ok with all due respect here. To the people who don’t think banning Semi-automatic weapons and large capacity magazines is a good idea please give me one logical or practical reason for anyone other than police or military to have them. You can’t use them for hunting so that’s a no. I am not against people owning handguns for self protection and grew up in a hunting community so even though I don’t hunt I am fine with the true hunters owning their hunting rifles. Just one good reason for semi-automatic(which can be converted to automatic) and large capacity mags please.

nimbus-image-1507062220824

Tampa Bay Times.

They lie: “Brutus” effectively says what they all say: “you don’t need guns.” A lie demonstrated by 1,000,000+ logical reasons. I’ll give him his one in a moment.

They double down: Nationwide they’ve reached the Nth degree of downs. In his one paragraph alone Brutus gives us: “other than police or military” and “can’t use them” – a lie and a doubling down within consecutive sentences. Impressive.

They project: These people are unstable. Deep down inside they know that they should never be trusted with guns – not personally nor through their beloved government agents. They’re the type of people who ultimately beget gulags, concentration camps, and killing fields. To sooth themselves psychologically, they project their dangerous deviance onto everyone else.

One logical or practical reason for anyone other than police or military to have them? Because the police and military have them. You’re welcome. With all due respect here.

There is that remote, yet possible chance that a government goes rogue. It happens every now and then. The police and military have been known throughout recent history to load unarmed citizens onto box cars and murder them. Little things like that. If it got bad enough even our government might someday: regulate everything under the sun; tax people’s’ incomes; steal property; send American kids off to war for profits; bomb foreign kids for profit; ban the possession of “short” lobsters – whatever the hell those are; destroy the healthcare industry; turn Congressionally mandated monetary policy over to a private corporation; facilitate the wholesale invasion of the USA, or; even stage false flags events just to ban guns or justify more war profiteering. It’s crazy, I know. But it could happen; they could become tyrannical. Knowing that I’d rather keep the martial odds at least nominally equal.

Mind you there is no interest in logic or practical application or respect with the anti-freedom crowd. No notion of history. No regard for liberty, responsibility, or real safety. And they have no consistency either.

The Times talks about people on terror watch lists. Yet these same kinds are prone to sue to halt bans, however minor, on the importation of terrorists. When any non-white, male, dream terrorist commits a crime, they immediately tell us that the event is in no way representative of the larger community (usually Muslim). They may be right. Why then, do they immediately assign blame for any narrative-conforming attack to all gun owners and freedom lovers? Bigot much?

A few of these folks are decent people – people who actually want to solve real problems. That’s good as we have more than a few of those issues around us. The rest of them literally have mental deficiencies which go beyond mere functional mid-wittery. Cut into their heads or run a CT scan and one finds their brains are actually deformed physically. They may deserve sympathy and even help. They do not deserve to dictate terms.

That’s logical and practical.

In another century I recall walking up the hill towards Georgia’s north campus. It was a clear lovely morning. There, hanging by a noose from an ancient tree, was a mannequin clothed in ethnic African garb. Upon the corpse was affixed a sign protesting the atrocities in Somalia – this was during America’s failed intervention in that crumbled nation. Dramatic high political speech.

The hanging corpse faced downhill so as to be visible to the masses walking north from the student center and Sanford Stadium. Those at the library and the law school also had a good view. The body stayed there all day.

I think they left the beautiful tree when they erected yet another monstrous hall of learning on the hill – followed by another across the walkway. Progress.

A year or two later I was on the north campus quad, making my way to Brooks Hall. I smelled smoke and heard a commotion. Nearing the hanging tree I observed Brooks engulfed in flames.

The metal roof needed repairs and a roofer with a torch was called in. One thing led to another and then the whole structure needed repairing. It was almost a year before classes resumed therein.

Another time I trotted into the courtyard between the student center and the bookstore. There was a huge crowd gathered around the performance stage. On stage were a variety of smartly dressed loudmouths. A be-suited man was screaming into a microphone. I think it was Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist fame. If not, he was a similar hate-monger.

“Fred” ranted and raved. The gathered students jeered and mocked. A woman on stage filmed the spectacle. A police officer looked on. He was there to keep the throng from assaulting the insulting preacher though he obviously sided with the insulted. All in all, the crowd was very well-behaved. The good behavior was rewarded with belittlement and abuse:

You, slut in the pants, thou shalt burn in hell!

Black man, ye shall no the fires!

Filthy sinner, I discern thoust to be a homosexual. God hates you!

You there, … I just don’t like your looks. Sinner!

Here, we have a witch!

A young man turned to the taunted, taunting crowd and asked them to show old Fred a little respect. The crowd booed laughingly. Fred turned immediately on his defender: “Silence! Ye heathen interrupter!”

On it went. I grew weary and shuffled away. The students gave as good as they got from Hell’s street preacher.

Again, that was another century. I swear people were differen then. Remember? It was called America.

Today, any of these incidents would be the genesis of great crisis. CNN would host a campus town hall telethon. Riots would ensue. Politicians would shriek. Climates would change.

By all accounts, over the past 25 years Americans in general have changed – young people and college students especially. They have become soft as butter and about as intellectual.

college-animal-house-330x500

Google.

National Review notes: Campus Commotions Show We’re Raising Fragile Kids. So it seems. Decades ago, armed with only flowers, college students would stand down the rifle-totting ranks of the National Guard. Now, they cower in fear of one of their own sporting a Raggedy Ann costume.

The Review’s article centers, primarily, on the stupidity at Yale.

A warning not to wear culturally insensitive Halloween costumes sparked an imbroglio at Yale, which went viral over the weekend. A lecturer asked in an e-mail, “Is there no room anymore for a child to be a little bit obnoxious . . . a little bit inappropriate or provocative or, yes, offensive?”

Students went ballistic. When an administrator (who is the lecturer’s spouse) defended free speech, some students wanted his head. One student wrote in a Yale Herald op-ed (now taken down): “He doesn’t get it. And I don’t want to debate. I want to talk about my pain.”

They can’t debate anymore. That requires logic. It’s all about them now. Their feelings. Their offense. Their pain. The Review has also deemed them Yale’s Idiot Children.

And what happens when large numbers of these delicate little flowers are set free to navigate their way through life? They feel unsafe and demand “safe spaces.” They feel threatened by uncomfortable ideas and demand “trigger warnings.” They might even want written rules or contracts to help them negotiate sexual relations.

In other words, this is the generation the mandarins of political correctness have been waiting for.

This tragedy is part of yet a greater tragedy in the making. As America’s young grow weaker, the world gets harder. There’s a lot of danger brewing out there – terrorists, welfare-driven migrations, economic upheaval, political machinations. If the darlings can’t stand the uncomfortable idea, they will never be capable of withstanding the uncomfortable action.

Things must change and quickly if an entire generation is not to be lost to whimpdom. They fate is bad enough. Worse, civilization may hang in the balance. Oops, didn’t mean to offend anyone by writing “hang.” Oops, wrote it again…
