America, cigars, election, freedom, government, politics, Russell Wilder, The People, Top Shelf Cigar Shoppe

A friend of mine owns a cigar shop. Okay, several of my friends own cigar shops. However, so far as I know, only one is politically connected. Yesterday his Letter to the Editor appeared in the Augusta (GA) Chronicle. It was half impassioned defense of his livelihood and the premium cigar industry and half pragmatic appeal for Trump votes.

0906121812 - Edited

Regarding the later half, it was perhaps the best argument I have heard for voting for Donald Trump. I have copied Russell Wilder’s letter below (with his implied and assumed permission…). Please give it a read through. I was not swayed to the Trump Train though I support Russell’s libertarian ideals and his exemplary business. (By the way, if you are in Augusta and you need cigars … go see Russell and the boys!)

I don’t participate in popular politics or the Great Quadrennial Black Mass anymore because I am an esteemed member of the media. I have to maintain my neutrality… It was hard to write that while laughing. Seriously though, I have to maintain a free fire zone for all pols to stumble blindly into (don’t even have to bait ’em). I also acknowledge that the Old Republic has ended; I see no need to rearrange the deck chairs.

For those of you still in the system and leaning conservative, I encourage you strongly to consider Mr. Wilder’s sensible arguments. One may substitute “tobacco shop” with any honest field of business. I have some further commentary below but here is the letter:

Russell Wilder, We Must Vote For Trump, Letter to the Editor of the Augusta Chronicle, August 23, 2016:

For those who say they can’t vote for Donald Trump because he is not a real conservative, and they must stand for their conservative principles:

I voted my conscience in 2008 for Bob Barr, and again in 2012 for Libertarian Gary Johnson for president. What did that get me? It got me President Obama.

It got me the State Children’s Health Insurance Program expansion, along with its 40-cent-per-cigar federal tax increase; an increase of $1.67 to a $2.76-per-pound pipe tobacco tax; and a $23.67-per-pound increase in the cigarette tobacco tax.

Then three months later it got me the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009. This act gave the Food and Drug Administration the authority to regulate all tobacco products.

I used to be idealistic about what we can do to change our republic, but I no longer have time to wait and hope people will come to their senses, and become educated and involved in our self-governance.

I am losing my business that I have poured my blood, sweat and tears into. I have invested my hard-earned money, my time and my heart into creating a business that employs three people and serves my community and my customers. My business generates property taxes; sales taxes for the state and my county; federal excise taxes; and thousands of dollars in donations to charities in my community.

Gary Johnson has zero chance to win. He will not win one single Electoral College vote. Hating on Trump and “voting your principles” will elect Hillary Clinton. Is Trump my first choice for president? No! Is he my best option to keep my business viable so all my hard work won’t go to waste? You bet!

Is our political system in need of an overhaul? You bet! Are the two choices we have in November less than desirable? Of course! Is anyone other than these two candidates going to win in November? Absolutely not!

I’m a businessman. I have to deal with what I am given, and make the most of it for the best result I can get. I have to play the hand I am dealt.

Either Trump or Clinton will be elected Nov. 8. I choose the Republican nominee. I’m not completely sure what to expect if Trump wins, but I am completely sure what to expect if Clinton wins – and it won’t be anything positive for business.

When you have a business that means everything to you that is being destroyed by the federal leviathan, come and talk to me about your conservative principles.

If you feel we need to change the political system, as I do, it is too late to make meaningful changes for this election. I can assure my conservative friends that voting for a third party, voting for Clinton or not voting at all in protest won’t change anything. It will give us President Hillary Clinton, who will continue the failed policies of Obama.

Very well said, my friend. I read through some of the on-line comments that followed, as did Russell. A few folks actually grasped the important issues – freedom, mainly. The most of them were contributed I think by a robot. Those opined incredible stupidity; no actual person that dumb could operate a computer. It had to be an anti-freedom robot.

Among the drivel spouted by the evil AI, Russell was:

Accused of killing 500,000 people per year;

Compared to a meth or crack dealer;

Assumed to sell cigarettes; and

Being a “far-left” “loonie”.

If these remarks are not the result of a Satanic computer program, then the former Republic is inhabited by people so retarded as to be unable to operate any type of government let alone grasp individual liberty.

In any event I applaud my friend’s championing of freedom and his business interests. That some will continue to fight the good fight no matter what means there is hope for a later revival. I take comfort in the thought there may be cigars in the new Renaissance.

Alternate Predictions: Hillary’s First 100 Days and Beyond

I still have this feeling that Donald John Trump will become America’s 45th President. It’s just a feeling, I must admit. I base it on two ideas. Trump likes winning and, by the numbers, he still has a narrow opportunity. Rumor grows, and is well-reasoned, that Trump is really a Clinton plant trying to throw the election to his old friend. That seems quite likely too. If that’s true, then a large percentage of the people are being cruelly played. That is nothing new in politics (the norm really).

The people form the basis of the other half of my Trump victory rationale. One would think that after so many recent decades of crime and deceit from Washington, the voters would welcome any outsider with open arms. Trump may be a narcissistic megalomania, a connected corporatist insider, a New York City liberal, and a long-time friend of the Clintons, but at least he is not a Clinton himself. There is, not as of now, any suspicion of Donald having murdered anyone, let alone half a cemetery. This would be the lesser of two evils factor.

Then again, it is never safe to overestimate the American public with its goldfish-like memory and gullibility of a three-year-old. They have made clear they are not interested in any third-party disruption of the Democrat-Republican alliance for the greater good of the bankers of the world. Thus, I need waste no energy on Gary Johnson or any one else. It is also useless to speculate of the resistance Hillary may face from a nominally Republican Congress. Any such will be slight and fleeting.

This is a story about Clinton who does, my feelings aside, stand a very good chance of becoming your next president. I say “your” not “our” because I will have nothing to do with it, either way. Having separated from politics and much of popular culture, I am now planning a full divorce. I’ll still be around, offering a real alternative, but this is your pointless fight.

Speaking of pointless, Hillary has already begun to assemble her transition team and is laying out her first term goals. It largely consists of three phases: 1) more government; 2) more government, and; 3) …more government. If you’re “with her”, then you must agree that the past 240 years of constant expansion just hasn’t been enough.

bio-photo-25

HillaryClinton.com.

While the tone of the agenda is tax and spend, there must be a healthy yet undisclosed dose of debt expansion. Assuming she has two terms, I conservatively estimate she will leave you with between $40 and $55 Trillion in on-books debt, circa 2024. If all goes well by her plans, the total unfunded liabilities will lurch towards $300 Trillion.

If all does not go well (and when does it?), then the Treasury and/or the Fed (and you by proxy) may have to assume some of the fictitious losses from the bursting of the derivatives bubble. In that case, multiply those already rosy numbers above by a factor of two to five.

Under a worst case scenario Hillary might spend much of her second term attempting to reorder the currency itself – a revaluation of high magnitude designed to offset the effects of inflation, hyper or otherwise. To borrow some of Jesse Jackson’s lingo, this revaluation will be devaluation, leading to evisceration. Also, look for the confiscation of your passports – you vote for this and you’ll have to stay and live with it.

Some of her agenda deals with:

Infrastructure rebuilding

America’s roads and bridges do need an overhaul. This would be best accomplished through privatization and user fees. Instead, look for new wasteful government programs complete with generous graft. These are to be paid for with new taxes on “the rich”. They will involve taxing a dollar to spend a quarter; the bargain will, as always, be passed on to you. Congratulations, you’re rich.

Immigration Reform

All illegal immigrants will be sanctioned and their extended families and friends welcomed to come in as well. More emphasis will be placed on expediting an increased flow of terror-prone muslims from the Middle East and elsewhere.

Promises will be made that this is an end measure, not to be repeated again. Those will be lies which the people will accept even if they know better. The goal is to have America majority non-white, non-European BEFORE 2050. The plan will work well, the results less so.

Gun Control

One of Hillary’s official unofficial aims is to diminish the Second Amendment. An outright repeal will be virtually impossible though completely unnecessary. A parade of “common sense” reforms should do the trick.

One of the first measure to come shall be the universal abolition of immunity for firearms manufacturers. When Mohammed bin Mohammed el Mohammed, freshly immigrated as a “refugee”, shoots and kills 50 people in the name of Allah, look for a class-action lawsuit against Sig Sauer. Bankrupting gun makers is as good as eliminating the Second Amendment.

This and more will be facilitated by Hillary’s Supreme Court. I imagine her whole aim in the appointment process will be to ram through one or more anti-gun candidates. Look for the same in the lower federal courts.

Beset with similar problems as the U.S., Germany stands to see an increase in gun ownership. As their defensive capability rises, so Hillary will have yours fall.

Universal College

This one will be especially popular. As the economy declines further and fewer people have the ability to find work, more will desire to waste four to ten years in various do-nothing college programs. And as universal healthcare worked out so well, so it may be with higher “education” (no actual education, no learning, is expected).

This may be approached in a variety of ways but will necessarily involve more public debt. More of the burden of existing private education debt may (will) be shifted to the taxpayers as well. This will account for $1 – $5 Trillion of the new (recorded) debt.

All Other Existing Entitlements

These will be safe and sound and expanded as time allows. More debt will flow.

War

Hillary has no stated claims of belligerence against any particular foes. At least none that I am aware of. Yet, as the above policies fail miserably there will be a need to divert the public attention. Look for near-perpetual war in the future – most of it in the Middle East. That will: allow the constant flow of terrorists into the U.S.; provide huge profits for the MIC and the banks, and; keep Americans preoccupied.

Do not look for any victories in the traditional sense. If the wars end up involving Russia or China, actual military defeat may be possible. Winning and losing are immaterial; it’s the spending that counts.

Debt and Money

As I’ve explained, the debt will continue to grow apace. The already worthless dollar may come to be itself something worse – an actual nuisance. Hillary will do whatever it takes to protect the cabal and ensure their increased power.

Much of this agenda, most maybe, will come to pass if Trump wins. After the election in November I plan to publish a set of predictions of what will follow in the next one to eight years and beyond. That will allow me a string of “see, I told you so” articles.

The America you knew is over. The Republic is a thing of the past and will not be revived any time soon, if ever. Better days will follow but much pain will be experienced to get to them. And they will be different from those of the past. Hopefully they will bring the people a little enlightenment. That may be too much to ask.

The Elective Perspective

In less than three months the American people (well, maybe 57% of 50% of them) will participate in the Great Quadrennial Black Mass of political theater. The odor reaches new depths of nauseam.

The saying goes that every vote counts. It does if one is a member of the electoral college. Otherwise, no vote counts. Please explain to me how your voting for Hillary will swing California’s 55 or Florida’s 29? Actually, please don’t. You just go and do your part for … democracy and such. There is a general relation between popular, voting and electoral. But it is uncertain and insignificant.

So too is the election itself. The significant changes occurred long ago and it is certain the powers will have they way after this November – for a little while longer.

Still, there is a sport and a fandom, an exciting spirit exhibited this time of the political season. Hey, people love a rodeo despite the copious bullshit (literal is that case).

The Atlantic, already looking forward to Hillary’s coronation, is already beginning the whiny defense of America’s first bitch (their word) president. I couldn’t make it through the whole article but it seems they are afraid some unenlightened folks don’t like Old Cankles just because she’s old and cankley. Or because she’s a woman. They seem to forget her record of failed policy. Her warmongering. Her felonious neglect. The private cemetery full of previous associates. “R.I.P. Another Suicide…”

Pat Buchanan offers, as usual, a better perspective. Fervor and pomp aside, there are serious issues at stake for the people. And there is still time for a surprise or two.

Fred Reed sees beyond the election, beyond the popular nonsense, to the coming rectification of calamity. Things are now in motion which no election and no candidate can cure. If America took out a Craigslist ad for a Man on Horseback, nobody has yet answered.

Yesterday I toyed with the maps at 270towin. Based on my modeling I still foresee a narrow Trump victory. It matters not. A Trump win will signify that a slight majority of voters have an undefined desire to return to some vague idea of civility, maybe even prosperity. It will mean a short time of false hope. The ship has sailed; it now flounders.

A Clinton win herald the end. It will represent the stacks and masts going below the waterline. In a way that would be best. Then, in short order once the hulk hits the seabed, any survivors can build America 2.0. Or, they might likely accept a healthy Balkanization of the old territory. Necessarily moving on in any case. Some have prepared and are now manning the lifeboats. The rest will shortly meet with Davy Jones. All their choices.

Time will tell. And the time is short. Logical recourse gave way to hope, plausible then delusional. Now comes the reckoning.

The day after the electoral votes are tallied (and your vote discarded) I may post a state of the state memorandum for what it’s worth. Not much… Just maybe.Perchance. After the stench clears, at any rate.

Those Second Amendment People

Those murderous, blood-thirsty, psychotic bumpkins. That’s how the left sees you if you happen to own a gun. Well, you have to own a gun and NOT use it to commit crimes or terrorist attacks to earn the ire of the anti-freedom zealots. Criminals and terrorists get a pass. You don’t. I don’t. Now, Donald Trump is on our list.

At a campaign event in North Carolina the Donald was talking about Hillary Clinton’s potential to throw the Supreme Court into a leftist, gun-controlling frenzy if she gets elected. Off the cuff, he said: “By the way if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

So, what did Trump mean with that remark? People with sense understand what he was saying. If Hillary gets elected and tries to appoint anti-freedom judges, the NRA, the SAF, and GOA could put pressure on the Senate to not confirm her appointments. Remember the powerful gun lobby the leftist always cry about? That.

Of course, the lunatics saw it differently or, at least, claim so. The likes of Elizabeth Warren and the Brady Center for Communism said Trump was calling for murder. Mike Pence immediately clarified what was meant although any such logic is lost in the howling wind of liberal craziness and hate.

Trump says he’s pro-Second Amendment but he hasn’t said it loud enough or demonstrated anything beyond saying to convince me. Reagan was pro-2A and he handed us the GCA modifications of 1986.

A reporter once asked Trump if he owned a gun. He answered that he had a concealed carry permit. He never said if he owned a gun to go along with the permit. He said it was none of the reporter’s business whether he did. That is true but I found it a little wishy-washy. I was reminded of a GOP presidential debate a few years ago. There and then an audience member asked the field if any of them owned a firearm which required a tax stamp. The answer was uniformly “no” and it seemed to go over all their heads.

A better answer from Trump might have been: “Yes. I own many guns. Would you like to see the one I’m carrying right now?” Of course, that wouldn’t be polite or politically correct enough. Imagine how the crazies would have responded to that. Their comments about a judicial appointment discussion were ridiculous enough.

Ultimately, it is all about the Second Amendment. The 2A was placed in the Constitution to ensure that there could always be armed resistance to tyranny – like when someone tries to do away with the Second Amendment. Cry about that.

This story really kind of speaks for itself: Orlando shooter’s father attends Hillary Clinton rally in Kissimmee, Seddique Mateen seen sitting right behind Clinton, WPTV, West Palm Beach.

He’s not just in attendance, he’s with her. “Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions,” Mateen told the reporter.

I’m not implying that this Mateen is a terrorist, there’s no indication he is. It’s just a little uncanny. That makes two such sharia-esque Hillary supporters in the past few weeks. Odd.

This is also not a Trump endorsement. This is just news of the strange but true.

I’m With … WordPress: Ad(ed) Value

So … at the bottom of this post you will probably notice (if you keep scrolling) a small advertisement for something or other. I mentioned a few days ago that I don’t control these ads; WordPress (my awesome hosting platform) places them. The reason for this is that my site is considered a “free” site by WP. That’s not entirely accurate; I pay a small fee to keep “wordpress” out of my link address and to have the “.me”. I was once at “.com” for a while but I forgot to renew (always forgetting something) and a domain pirate swooped in a grabbed it.

They will kindly sell the .com back for about $2,800 – up from $600 or so thanks to the increase in my site’s popularity. (Thanks, all).

Anyway, my next step with WP is to go professional. That comes with a host of neat features but costs a little. I’m planning on stepping up by the end of the year. (Donations will be accepted soon at GoFundMe…..).

Until then, this is how the WP ads work:

nimbus-image-1470656666850

WordPress.

I’ve never intended to burden my readers or slow down my site with a lot of ads. At some point I may run some targeted “affiliate” ads for things I recommend; knowing me, those will probably be cigars and guns. Until then, I am happy to suffer the occasional WP ad in exchange for reasonable pricing.

When I’m not ranting about cigars, guns, or wall rugs, I tend toward political news with an anarchist point of view. I do not endorse politicians unless they are exceptional (Ron Paul) or dead (Leo Ryan) or both (Cicero). However, it has come to my attention that WP has been running political ads lately – this being political ad season.

Like Facebook and Google, there must be a liberal slant at WP because the only ads I see (and readers notice) are Hillary Clinton ads. I recently wrote a short piece about how Hillary is a criminal and, low and behold, it was accompanied by an “I’m with her.” ad. Funny but I don’t even like the appearance that I might be endorsing a candidate, especially Killary.

Since I cannot afford to dispense with the ads yet I have began to counter them with a disclaimer: “*The gag “ad(s)” above this line are endorsed by Perrin Lovett; those below are not.”; and with little “ads” of my own. It looks something like this to readers:

nimbus-image-1470399562681

This process has allowed me to make use of a meme generator for the first time. That’s fun. I hope this serves as sufficient explanation. Until such time as the ads are done away with, please know: I’m with freedom.

Trump is, I still think, in the game to win it – it’s in his nature. He’s rallying behind the “united party” BS so popular with those of purely party ideology (which really isn’t). Despite making fun of the crazed old pseudo-socialist from Arizona, Trump now endorses him. He also endorsed the embattled and useless Speaker, Paul Ryan. One big happy, big-government family.

On the same evening he sided with Ryan, Trump ridiculed the $400 Million ransom paid by Hussein Obama to Iran. And, ransom it seems it was; the hostages were held at the airport until the cash arrived. Trump seems to forget, or perhaps is unaware of, Paul Ryan’s $70 Billion Puerto Rican ransom to the banksters. Billion is more than million, Trump should know that much.

If the election only came down to ransom payments, one would have to pick between big and corrupt or big and corrupt.

Eric Peters notes that, whatever else he may be, Trump is not (yet) a murderer. All that is true but it must be remembered: Trump hasn’t had access to the game like Hillary of Hussein – not yet.

Judging by support for practical, corrupt politics as usual, there seems no difference between the GOP and the DNC offers. There never really is. Pick your poison. It’s still poison. I, myself shall refrain.

Speculation abounds that the Donald might be trying to throw the election to Hillary. Rumor is he doesn’t really want the office and he and the Clintons have been friends for some time.

I still think he’s in. It makes little difference either way. I’ve long said American politics has degenerated into a WWE (WWF for us seniors) carnival act. The Democrats and Republicans play “heels” and “faces” and then trade off as the scripted plot develops. Regardless of which side they’re on, the TV wrestlers all work for Vince McMahon and the overall goal is to keep fans watching and paying. It’s the same with the “two-party” system. The politicians all work for the banks and the goal is to get you watching (but not too close) and paying.

I’ve said and written that for years. Now, people on the Republican side are actually starting to mimic the Godfather of WWF fame.

The Constitution: Laughable Mention

Amid the uproar about Donald Trump and the family of a dead Muslim (U.S.) soldier, I caught a flippant mention of the Constitution.

Khizr Khan, angry with Trump, stated and asked: “Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the US constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words liberty and equal protection of law.”

He held up a pocket-copy of the old parchment as an exhibit. The donkey crowd cheered wildly. This, at a convention for people who regularly brag about flouting the Constitution and make fun of those who attempt to hold the government accountable under it. (“Are you serious!?”).

_20160801_111215

Khan’s may have been the only mentions of “Constitution” and “liberty” during the whole days-long affair. I wonder if his speech was preceded by a trigger warning?

Trump may or may not have read the Constitution. He may or may not know or care why it was adopted or what it means (used to mean…). The rest of the Democrats and Republicans might know too but they obviously don’t care. It’s a moot point anyway at this late hour. Still, for a moot point it was pretty funny.

Trump Check: A Word Analysis of Donald’s Acceptance Speech

America, Donald Trump, freedom, government, politics, The People

The Donald had them cheering last night. I did not watch but I have reviewed the transcript of what he said. I am convinced the man has essentially gotten himself elected but I am not impressed.

To all Americans tonight, in all our cities and towns, I make this promise: We Will Make America Strong Again.

We Will Make America Proud Again.

We Will Make America Safe Again.

And We Will Make America Great Again.

                – Trump, July 21, 2016, Politico.

What about Free again?

160721_donald_trump_speech_getty_1160.jpg

Politico/Getty.

I decided to dissect his speech, looking for mention of certain words and ideas. Here’s what I found:

***

Freedom: one mention (pg 47):  in relation to the TPP – “I pledge to never sign any trade agreement that hurts our workers, or that diminishes our freedom and independence.”

Free (as a positive human condition): one (pg 57) – “protect free speech of all Americans.”

Liberty: 0 mentions.

Liberties: 0 mentions.

Independence: one (pg 47) – again in relation to TPP.

Right(s) (as a positive, individual human possession): 2 (pgs 30 and 55) – the right of children to live their lives – right of all Americans to keep their families safe.

Constitution: 1 (pg 55) – concerning only the appointment of Supreme Court justices.

The Founders: 0.

Firearms: 0.

Second Amendment: 1 (pg 55) – Hillary wants to abolish.

Federal Reserve: 0.

Monetary Policy: 0.

Debt: 1 mention (pg 10): Obama has doubled the debt (no promise to eliminate it or even to lower the growth rate).

Elimination of government agencies: 0. (Donald days he will ask Department heads for a list of wasteful programs to eliminate in his first 100 days. The wasteful departments themselves seem safe).

Intervention (foreign meddling): 0. (Trump rightly placed blame on the current Administration for its idiotic policies but elsewhere maintained that America would continue the same albeit with support from our allies and dependents).

***

Trump’s speech was meant solely to rally his party into a frenzy. It worked. His words centered on safety and wealth, giving only the barest afterthoughts to freedom and, then, only in the context of government policies. He promised tax and regulatory cuts, which are badly needed. However, he said nothing of reducing the overall scope of government nor of ending or curtailing the reliance on the central banking cabal. He doesn’t want to eliminate anything but, rather, replace and retool failed policies with other failed policies. He spoke of fighting terrorism but of its being a product of Hillary’s design – he remarks on terror and criminal invasion smelled of back-peddling, almost to the point of pandering.

This speech gave those who listened what they wanted to hear but was not necessarily what should have been said. Again, the people are getting what they want and what they deserve.

At this late (too late) point, this is the best we can do. I understand many will vote Trump thinking he is better than Hillary. He is different but no better. This speech told me everything I need to know. He’s a big government champion and another politician.

During the next four or eight years we can look forward to more of the same. I really, really hope I’m wrong though I think I am right. This speech didn’t help.
