PCR on the America we lost.

The America in which I grew up and lived my early adult life was a nation. Over the course of my life I have watched my country turn into a Tower of Babel. Homogeneity and shared values permitted us to understand one another. This doesn’t mean that there was uniformity or that things were perfect. A Baptist wasn’t a Catholic. A WASP was not a black laborer. A female was not a male. Blacks and poor whites had a hard time becoming middle class, but it could be done. It was possible for middle class people to become “well off,” but difficult to become rich. Immigration was controlled, and the reduction of inflows had helped the Irish and Italians to integrate into society.

Police were helpful and didn’t burst into homes with guns blazing or rough you up on traffic stops. On important issues, compromises could be reached and reforms implemented. English was the language. If you telephoned a service provider, utility, or bank, you quickly were connected to a real person capable of handling every aspect of whatever you were calling about. Today you wait through the Spanish language option for the robo-voice listing the options that might have something to do with the reason for your call. The companies save money and make profits by imposing their service costs on customers.

…

Is this place still a nation, when we can’t even stick with the plain definition of important words?

UPDATE: I almost ran with this last night. Thanks to VD for further insights. Another thing we lost – safety at the mall.

Paul Craig Roberts has some thoughts (at LRC):

In a few hours it will be another new year, 2019. I can remember when 1984 seemed far in the future, both as a calendar date and George Orwell’s predicted dystopia, to which 9/11 and the digital revolution gave birth in the 21st century. Now I find myself 35 years past 1984 and a stranger in a strange land.

Over these holidays two occurrences brought the strangeness of the present time home to me.

One was the arrival of the memoir, From the Cast-Iron Shore (University of Notre Dame Press, 2019) by my friend and onetime colleague, Francis Oakley, an historian of the medieval era and past president of Williams College. The other was the report that a Japanese man had married a hologram.

Nobody really does it like PCR:

Why are citizens so powerless that their governments can elevate the interest of foreigners far above the interests of citizens?

There are a number of reasons. The main one is that the people are disarmed and are propagandized to accept violence from the state against them, but not to deliver violence in return against the governments’ illegal use of force against citizens.

In short, until the conquered peoples of Europe kill the police, who serve the ruling elite and delight in inflicting brutality against those whose taxes pay their salaries, take the weapons from the police, and kill the corrupt politicians who have sold them out, the peoples of Europe will remain a conquered and oppressed peoples.

Some time past Chris Hedges, one of the remaining real journalists, made it clear that without violent revolution to excise the tumor of government superiority over the people, freedom throughout the West is dead as a doornail.

Harsh but true – and nicely couched in EUROPEAN terms, just in case… No arguments here.

Other thoughts of the week:

*I fully support shutting down the government – permanently is okay with me.

*Without a shutdown, criminal justice reform is probably a good idea (though I haven’t seen the details).

*Wall or No Wall? The 2020 question.

*Good riddance to another swamp rat.

*Etc…..

Paul Craig Roberts on the Assange “Case”

Please read THIS, should you care and in between divisional games, of course. Excellent review of the non-case.

In the US and probably throughout Europe, politicians and feminists, with the exception of Katrin Axelsson and Lisa Longstaff, used the presstitute media to paint Assange as a rapist and as a spy. The feminists cared nothing about any truth; they just wanted a man to demonize. Truth was the last thing on politicians’ minds. They just wanted to divert attention from Washington’s crimes and betrayals of allies by portraying Assange as a threat and traitor to America. They were unconcerned that Assange could not be a traitor to America as he is not an American citizen. In actual fact, there is no basis in law for any US claim against Assange. Yet because of Washington and its servile British puppet state, Assange remains interred in the Embassy of Ecuador in London. Clearly, honor and respect for law reside in Ecuador, not in the US, UK, or Sweden.

But facts, along with law and civil liberty, have ceased to mean anything in the Western world. The corrupt US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that the arrest of Assange is a “priority.” The British police, mere lackeys of Washington, said that they would still arrest Assange, despite the case being dropped, if he left the embassy.

For the British, serving Washington is a higher calling than the honor of their country.

The interesting fact is not that Assange has committed no crime (anywhere) but is held nonetheless hostage by real criminals; the crazy thing here is how little the people know or care. And, sadly, none of this is surprising.

Happy Sunday!

Another round of riots set off by another police shooting.

Read the Order of Acquittal HERE.

nimbus-image-1505851675692

Make of that and the ensuing violence what you will. There’s more where that came from, some a little better, some much worse.

Paul Craig Roberts tackles the declining, infantile nature of the Nation and her People.

People can no longer think or reason. There seems to be no rational component in their brain, just emotion set into action by fuse-lighting words.

Here is an example hot off the press. This month in Cobb County, Georgia, a car was pulled over for driving under the influence of alcohol. The white police lieutenant requested the ID of a white woman. She replied that she is afraid to reach into her purse for her license, because she has read many stories of people being shot because police officers conclude that they are reaching for a gun. Instead of tasering the woman for non-compliance, yanking her out of the car, and body slamming her, the lieutenant diffused the situation by making light of her concern. “We only shoot black people, you know.” This is what a person would conclude from the news, because seldom is a big stink made when the police shoot a white person.

The upshot of the story is that the lieutenant’s words were recorded on his recorder and when they were entered as part of the incident report, the chief of police announced that the lieutenant was guilty of “racial insensitivity” and would be fired for the offense.

Now think about this. A little reasoning is necessary. How are the words racially insensitive when no black persons were present? How are the words racially insensitive when the lieutenant said exactly what blacks themselves say? And now the clincher: Which is the real insensitivity, saying “we only shoot black people” or actually shooting black people? How is it possible that the officer who uses “racially insensitive” words to diffuse a situation is more worthy of punishment that an officer who actually shoots a black person? Seldom is an officer who has shot a black, white, hispanic, Asian, child, grandmother, cripple, or the family dog ever fired. The usual “investigation” clears the officer on the grounds that he had grounds to fear his life was in danger—precisely the reason the woman didn’t want to reach into her purse.

For a person who tries to tell the truth, writing is a frustrating and discouraging experience. What is the point of writing for people who cannot read, who cannot follow a logical argument because their limited mental capabilities are entirely based in emotion, who have no idea of the consequence of a population imbued with hate that destroys a nation in divisiveness?

I ask myself this question every time I write a column.

I ponder similar questions. Writing or expressing anything other that pop trash nonsense is tiring. Still, we try.

Paul Craig Roberts reminisces from out the tattered remains of the post-modern nation:

…

He could remember riding his horse into the town three miles from his grandparents’ farm with a real pistol strapped to his side and a rifle in the scabbard when he was 12 or 13. No one said a thing. Today a SWAT team would be on the scene. He would be lucky not to be shot dead and never know the fate of his grandparents, who would be guilty of all sorts of offenses, including failure to supervise a minor.

That reminded him of what he had recently read in a newspaper. On a cul-de-sac devoid of car traffic a mother sat in a chair outside the house while her child played in the front lawn. A busybody neighbor, trained to report parental malfeasance, whose view of the mother was blocked by shrubbery, saw an unsupervised child at play and called the police. When the police arrived, they arrested the mother on the basis of the unverified report from the neighbor. The mother was taken to jail. The newspaper did not say what had happened to the child, whether the kid was taken to foster care and whether the husband had to rush home from his job and ply lawyers with money to help put his family back together. These kinds of horrors inflicted on families by public authorities often have worse consequences than the predations of criminals. He wondered if parents and children would be safer if the police were disbanded and outlawed.

Yet, society had accepted these abuses as justified. What, he thought, would have been the public reaction when he was a kid? The policemen would have been fired, the chief disciplined, and the mayor would have lost the next election. It would not have been possible for them to become heroes by destroying a family. The busybody neighbor would have become a pariah in the community.

Just the other day he had seen a grandmother at the supermarket with tattoos and face piercings. A grandmother? How had this come about? At the mountain resort pool and exercise center it wasn’t just the men. He had seen young women who were covered in tattoos. A friend told him that some women not only had face and tongue piercings, but also navel, labia, and clitoris piercings. Piercings were what he remembered from boyhood days of looking through stacks of National Geographic magazines from the 1940s and 1950s. Articles explained with words and photographs facial piercing practices by tribes in “darkest Africa.” Now they were the practices of upper class womyn who played in resorts.

…

Read that one, especially if you’re over 40. It’s a totally different country today, maybe not for the better. Ignorance, sloth, and weakness masquerade as individuality and liberation. And with the dumbing down comes a constant lose of freedom.

For a more in-depth look back, please buy and read the following, which I recalled as I nodded along with Roberts:

When I Was a Kid, This Was a Free Country

Paul Craig Roberts on the gullibility of Americans and those ever so happy to lie to them:

The false reality constructed for Americans parallels perfectly the false reality constructed by Big Brother in George Orwells’ dystopic novel 1984.

Consider the constant morphing of “the Muslim threat” from al-Qaeda to the Taliban, to al-Nursra, to ISIS to ISIL, to Daesh with a jump to Russia. All of a sudden 16 years of Middle East wars against “terrorists” and “dictators” have become a matter of standing up to Russia, the country most threatened by Muslim terrorism, and the country most capable of wiping the United States and its vassal empire off of the face of the earth.

Domestically, Americans are assured that, thanks to the Federal Reserve’s policy of quantitative easing, that is, flooding the financial markets with newly printed money that has driven up the prices of stocks and bonds, America has enjoyed an economic recovery since June of 2009, which must be one of the longest recoveries in history despite the absence of growth in median real family incomes, despite the growth in real retail sales, despite the falling labor force participation rate, despite the lack of high value-added, high productivity, high wage jobs.

The “recovery” is more than a mystery. It is a miracle. It exists only on fake newspaper.

…

Chasing and creating phantoms while the economy rots.

And of the economy, rumors circulate that Trump will soon make it four in a row at the Fed’s helm:

President Donald Trump is increasingly unlikely to nominate Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen next year for a second term, four people close to the process said.

National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn is now the leading candidate to succeed Yellen as the world’s most important central banker, these people said. Yellen begins two days of congressional testimony on Wednesday, and her own future in the job may come up in questioning.

If Trump taps Cohn for the Fed, it could enrage economic nationalists in the White House and some staunchly conservative Republicans on Capitol Hill who don’t like the former Goldman Sachs president’s background as a Democrat who generally favors free trade.

And it would spur a backlash from progressive lawmakers who have blasted the president for picking multiple Goldman alums to run economic policy.

While the departure of Aunt Janet would be a great thing, her replacement by the former president of Goldman does not induce that warm, fuzzy feeling.

The best thing about Cohn is that he isn’t a credentialed economist – those have been dead wrong about everything for the past 100+ years. Otherwise, this will be the fox managing the henhouse.

But, hey, it’s now less than two months until football season…

No Justice, No Peace: Paul Craig Roberts on the Systemic Corruption and Evil of the American Criminal Legal Racket

I would say Roberts is tied with Pat Buchanan for first place as America’s pre-eminent political/societal opinion writer. Years of genuine public service, education, and superior intelligence have left him in a unique position from which to observe the goings on of the declining USA. More importantly, he calls it like he sees it, like it is.

An economist extraordinaire, the legal system is one of his pet subjects. Particularly, he focuses on the criminal “justice” industry and in especial, on the inherent unfairness and injustice of American criminal law. He did so again recently: a masterful column:

The fact of the matter is that only 3% of felony cases go to trial, and in these cases prosecutors are able to bribe and to pay witnesses for false testimony against the accused and to withhold exculpatory evidence that would clear the defendant of the charges. In other words, conviction regardless of the evidence is almost always obtained.

In the other 97% of the cases, the defendant’s attorney negotiates with the prosecutor a fictitious charge to which the accused will plead guilty in exchange for dropping the more serious charge for which the accused was arrested. The attorney knows that to defend against even a false charge is unlikely to be successful and that the accused will draw a longer sentence from going to trial than from agreeing to a lesser charge in a plea bargain. Both prosecutor and judge are grateful, because it saves both from days, even weeks, of court time, thus keeping the judge’s case load lighter and permitting the prosecutor many more convictions with which to embellish his record. A week of plea bargains can produce many times the convictions of a week in court dealing with one case. The fewer cases the judge has to study and to apply his understanding of the law, the better for the judge.

As only 3% of cases go to trial, the police evidence is seldom tested. The police know this. One result is that it is much easier for the police to pickup someone who had committed a similar crime in the past and charge him, than to go to the trouble of solving the crime by investigating it. Indeed, the police are so out of touch with neighborhoods, compared to bygone days when police walked their beats and knew the population, and crimes appear so random, that many crimes simply can’t be investigated. Much easier to pick up someone with a record and charge them. This practice explains the high recidivism rates. Once convicted, they will convict you again. It is how crimes are “solved.”

Don Siegelman was probably the best governor Alabama ever had. He had to be good in order to be elected as a Democrat in a Republican state. The fact that President Obama, who had the support of 113 state attorneys general in behalf of Siegelman, did not lift a finger to have the Justice Department look into Siegelman’s frameup or use his pen to sign a pardon demonstrates that an ordinary citizen has no chance whatsoever. When a prominent governor can be framed, the fate of a single mom or a black man is sealed when they are arrested.

In the “American criminal justice system” justice is totally absent. There is no such thing as justice in America.

The nail, hit squarely and hard on the head.

There exists in this country, among the semi-literate masses, a lay juridical theory best summarized as: “The police wouldn’t arrest an innocent man.” They would. They do. They usually – 97% might be a little light – get away with it. Innocent people go to prison or pay fines for nothing. The masses celebrate their self-righteous ignorance and watch sports on TV. Case closed.

The great shame of the system, if the corruption and evil don’t count for it, is that this fabricated approach destroys the legitimacy of actual prosecution of real criminals. How can a system that railroads 97% of the participants as victims possibly be counted on to properly handle the other 3% of certain scofflaws? It can’t. If anything, the same laws are seemingly set up to allow the really guilty and the really harmful to go free. Some of them help make these debased laws. A rigged system of double standards.

nimbus-image-1498398624980

Funny Junk. And not very funny…

Part of the problem is selective prosecution, persecution based on controlling behaviors (otherwise harmful to no one). American “justice” is a matter of towing the line, luck, access, connections, and money. For those accused of minor crimes, and to a lesser degree felonies, there is a narrow window for beating or buying justice. This requires a level of skill or luck far beyond that of the ordinary citizen. I’ve seen it in action in: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and the Federal system. It’s real and it’s universal. It represents failure of jurisprudence and of civilization.

Based on my professional observations, I can vouch for Roberts’s assertions 100%. He investigates these matters nationwide with an honest, critical, and unbiased eye. I’ve corresponded with him on the problems as have numerous attorneys, victims (defendants), reporters, legislators, etc.

The next time you hear about someone accused of committing some crime, any crime, consider these questions:

1) did the person break any written law?;

2) did the person intend to break a law?;

3) did the person really do some act in contradiction of the law(s); and,

4) was there any actual problem or harm associated with the actions that amounted to the alleged law breaking?

The answer (to one or all) is very likely “no.”

Then consider that:

The subject law(s), if any, is likely invalid;

The law(s) has been misapplied;

There was no discernible victim;

There is no evidence whatsoever;

The prosecution’s case is probably constructed entirely of lies;

There is no equal application of the law(s);

There is no due process in the procedures of adjudication;

There will be no trial;

There will be no review by a jury of peers;

No defenses, however complete, will be accepted; and

Most people do not give a damn about any of this.

This is the American “justice” system. There is no justice in it at all.

Now consider that someday (if you haven’t already) you may be on the receiving end of this rank evil.

How’s your team doing?

America, economy, failure, Paul Craig Roberts, politics

Roberts never disappoints. Today he masterfully interweaves the various, total failures of post-American society into a narrative even the denizens of the Cave might be able to follow.

There is no sign that American leadership in any area is actually capable of thought. Consider Wall Street and corporate leadership. To boost share prices Wall Street forced all corporations to desert their home country and move the production of goods and services sold to Americans offshore to where labor and regulatory costs were lower. The lower costs raised profits and share prices. Wall Street threatened resistant corporations with takeovers of the companies if they refused to move abroad in order to increase their profits.

Neither Wall Street nor corporate boards and CEOs were smart enough to understand that moving jobs offshore also moved US consumer incomes and purchasing power offshore. In other words, the financial and business leadership were too stupid to comprehend that without the incomes from high value-added, high productivity US jobs, the American consumer would not have the discretionary income to continue in his role as the economy’s driver.

The Federal Reserve caught on to Wall Street’s mistake. To rectify the mistake, the Fed expanded credit, allowing a buildup in consumer debt to keep the economy going on credit purchases. However, once consumer debt is high relative to income, the ability to buy more stuff departs. In other words, credit expansion is not a permanent fix for the lack of consumer income growth.

A country whose financial and business leadership is too stupid to understand that a population increasingly employed in part-time minimum wage jobs is not a big spending population is a country whose leadership has failed.

It is strictly impossible to boost profits by offshoring jobs without also offshoring US consumer incomes. Therefore, the profits from offshoring are temporary. Once enough jobs have been moved offshore that aggregate demand is stymied, the domestic market stagnates and then declines.

As I have demonstrated so many times for so many years, as has John Williams (shadowstats.com), the jobs reports from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics are nonsense. The jobs in the alleged recovery from June 2009 are largely low-income domestic service jobs and the product of the theoretical birth/death model. The alleged recovery from the 2007-08 financial crisis is the first recovery in history in which the labor force participation rate declined. Labor force participation rates decline when the economy offers scant job opportunities, not when employment opportunities are rising.

What we know about US jobs is that the jobs are increasingly part-time minimum wage jobs. According to a presstitute news report that might or might not be true, there are only 12 counties in the entirety of the United States in which a person can rent a one-bedroom home on a minimum wage income.

Roberts knows, I know, you know, that these idiots will never learn from their overwhelming mistakes. They have completely abandoned reality, you and yours with it. The answer to any of it, from the fools, is always more of the same.

signs-of-a-collapsing-society

Must we all have a Charlton Heston moment? Is That Baloney.

One wonders how long this charade will go on. The experts seem to think, at a maximum, another 16 to 23 years. Let’s call it 20, with an inside safety margin of 15: you have 15 years left to prepare for something not seen since 476 AD.

You should probably get to work on that today.

So, this morning I droned on about Washington and the Russians (Russians my not actually exist in this context). I ended by saying an investigation would give Congress something to do other than pass more laws we could live without. Too late.

government_of_evil28-1

The House has passed and the Senate is considering the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, H.R. 5077. Of course, a rider proposition in or behind the Bill is aimed at the Ruskies.

Paul Craig Roberts (who I almost worked with on a story once) sees dire consequences:

The faked news report from the imbeciles at PropOrNot, which was hyped by the fake news sheet, WaPo, claiming that I was a Russian agent was supposed to do my credibility harm. Instead, the 200 List told everyone where they could get good information, and my readership went up. Moreover, I almost got a Russian passport out of it. But before sending it along, Putin checked with Russian intelligence and was informed that I am not on their roster.

The rumor is that if the House intelligence bill passes with Title V intact, those of us on the PropOrNot list could be called before congressional hearings in a replay of McCarthyism. If they waterboard me, I might break down and implicate Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Jim Baker, David Stockman, and all the rest. The evidence against us is pretty strong. Trump is suspect because he wants peace with Russia, and so did Reagan. From the standpoint of the Hillary forces and the presstitutes, anyone who wants peace with Russia is bound to be a Russian agent.

The way the presstitutes have framed the issue, there are no legitimate reasons to be for peace.

If Putin and those of us on the 200 List are the ones who actually got Trump elected, shouldn’t Putin or The List be Time magazine’s person of the year and not Trump? After all, if Putin and I did the work, shouldn’t we get the recognition? Why give the credit to the stooge we put in office?

Why is Time magazine showing those of us responsible off into the background?

Eureka! Time magazine is also a Russian agent and is covering up for us by giving Trump credit for our work. Whew! I won’t be waterboarded after all.

He may or may not be kidding here. Title V is as real as the rest of this legislation. (You did click the link to H.R. 5077, right?)

Ah, well. Here’s the esteemed Mr. Altucher (who won’t answer my texts) on Doing What You Love (the key is flexibility):

Transitions are the key.

There’s no such thing as, “I love this and then, A, B, C and success happens.”

There’s no Beginning, Middle, End, where “End” equals success. That rarely happens. Maybe it happened to two people in life. Larry Page and Bill Gates. Two out of billions.

I wish I was Larry Page. Maybe I am jealous of him.

Here’s how it happens:

END. Bitter End. Horrible End. Confusing End. ‘WHY? and END.

MIDDLE. Confusion. Fog. “What do I do now?’ Ideas, depression, fog, bad idea after bad idea and then finally good idea.

In the middle, you take the old, you tweak it, you try it in different ways. You work it.

…BEGINNING. The seeds planted for many new things. All generated as a combination of your ideas and your past loves.

Success. Repeat.
