America, nation, terminal decline, United States

No, this is no longer “America.” As I&I notices, that has been gone for some time.

What is the United States of America? A society of elitists vs. the rest? A culture that’s given up on itself? A land of censorship? A nation in which policies and orientation are not merely matters of disagreement but causes of internal and irreconcilable turmoil? It was supposed to be none of these. But today it seems a foreign place, with more in common with the many dystopias of literature than anything the founders of a free nation ever imagined.

…

We’ve been hearing and reading that despite the election’s outcome, Trumpism will continue, and that the American spirit hasn’t fully wilted. We hope this is true, and the down-ballot results seem to confirm it. But it’s undeniable that much of the country is pulling in the other direction. Regarding that, we offer only one suggestion: Resist.

Though the editors confuse the nation with the state, they’re right – the USA is all of the things they question. That is because the American nation has been dissolved and diluted by non-Americans. The best way to resist it to acknowledge reality and history and prepare to rebuild something, somewhere that resembles America – a place for the Americans. The rest of them may have their dystopias.

The remains of the state might be divided, but the underlying nation is toast. The resulting human toll is, both comically and tragically, to be expected.

  • Survey reveals about two in five Americans are stressed out by the political climate, and one in five say they’re even losing sleep.
  • Nearly a third of those surveyed feel views expressed on cable news channels are driving them “crazy.”
  • Study author believes problem is akin to a public health crisis in the country.

LINCOLN, Neb. — The past few years in American politics have been tumultuous, to say the least. Personal political beliefs aside, there is no denying that the U.S. has grown especially divided in the wake of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election victory. Between social media bots, partisan news coverage, and the president’s frequent Twitter posts, it has never been harder for the average American to avoid being bombarded with some type of political message on an almost hourly basis.

It isn’t a stretch to assume that at some point all of that polarization would have a negative effect on the collective well being of the nation, and a new study conducted at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has effectively confirmed this assumption. According to researchers, the current U.S. political climate is literally making Americans physically sick, damaging friendships, and driving many people “crazy.”

A fifth and a third, etc., all over Tweets and cable news. Just wait until the M777s start singing…

A failed state trades things like civility and justice for insanity. I just read the verdict in an amazing state criminal case. The attendant sentencing blew my mind in its cruel depravity. I looked at the underlying statute and realized that even when an evil government nominally attempts to pacify a real problem, to craft measured or tempered solutions to appropriately deal with particular circumstances, that all it does is perpetuate the ruse. The utter BS from the media was designed (carefully) to distract the public’s attention. The plan worked perfectly. Those literally going crazy in the face of this horror may really display markers of normalcy. I’ll bet 2% of them – not 2.5 or 3% – wake up, shake it off, and move forward.

And, the rest? If they think it’s bad now, …

PCR on the America we lost.

The America in which I grew up and lived my early adult life was a nation. Over the course of my life I have watched my country turn into a Tower of Babel. Homogeneity and shared values permitted us to understand one another. This doesn’t mean that there was uniformity or that things were perfect. A Baptist wasn’t a Catholic. A WASP was not a black laborer. A female was not a male. Blacks and poor whites had a hard time becoming middle class, but it could be done. It was possible for middle class people to become “well off,” but difficult to become rich. Immigration was controlled, and the reduction of inflows had helped the Irish and Italians to integrate into society.

Police were helpful and didn’t burst into homes with guns blazing or rough you up on traffic stops. On important issues, compromises could be reached and reforms implemented. English was the language. If you telephoned a service provider, utility, or bank, you quickly were connected to a real person capable of handling every aspect of whatever you were calling about. Today you wait through the Spanish language option for the robo-voice listing the options that might have something to do with the reason for your call. The companies save money and make profits by imposing their service costs on customers.

…

Is this place still a nation, when we can’t even stick with the plain definition of important words?

UPDATE: I almost ran with this last night. Thanks to VD for further insights. Another thing we lost – safety at the mall.
