The Associated Press released their survey of the top news stories of 2018. These are items selected by editors around the country and not necessarily the favorites of the people. However, I suspect, given the monopoly press, that they are the stories most heavily sold (like any manufactured good) to the people. A look:
1. The Parkland Shooting – A tragedy but hardly the most important thing in the country. Another of a decreasing number of mass shootings, another failed attempt to ban guns, another exposure of government corruption.
2. Russia, Russia, Russia – Fake news personified. Too much to do about absolutely nothing. Worn, tired, and dying.
3. Pound Me Too – Beyond exposing that Hollywood is run by and for lowlifes, this only pacifies wimps and furthers male-bashing and anti-Americanism.
4. More “Mass” Shootings – More hype, fewer facts. We’re not giving up the guns, sorry.
5. The Elections – All problems are solved now! Spare me, please…
6. Immigration – This should have been the number one issue and it should have been titled, “The Ongoing Invasion.” This is the story that has most changed the character of the country (for the worse) and is only getting worse by the day. At this late point, The Wall would only be a start.
7. Brett and Beaker – The fakest of fake news for the dumbest of humans. Why hasn’t anyone been indicted yet?
8. CA Fires – A story to be sure. But a top ten?
9. “Climate Change” – Like gun grabbing, this attempt at mass market communism just isn’t gaining traction. Ice. Age. Comes.
10. Khashoggi Murder – I doubt one in fifty Americans even know this happened.
Stupid items, selected by stupid editors, in a fat and stupid country. How about these issues:
Don’t look for improvement in 2019.

Read this AP bit on the whining and the West-bashing. Then, determine for yourselves which is the less-enlightened age.
In matters of enlightenment and decline, Benedict Beckeld, Ph. D., offers actual insight into the decline of music:
I’m not quite sure about the impossibility of music ever again rising, but he’s certainly right about the triumph of the classical over the modern (and everything else heretofore).

Vladimir Putin again attempts friendship with Trump and the rest of the West:
Russian President Vladimir Putin told his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in a New Year letter on Sunday that Moscow was ready for dialogue on a “wide-ranging agenda”, the Kremlin said following a series of failed attempts to hold a new summit.
…
“Vladimir Putin stressed that the (Russia – United States) relations are the most important factor for providing strategic stability and international security,” a Kremlin statement said.
“He confirmed that Russia is open for dialogue with the USA on the most wide-ranging agenda.”
Moscow has said one of the key issues it wanted to discuss with the United States is Washington’s plans to withdraw from a Cold War era nuclear arms pact.
The man is an eternal optimist. Let’s pray Trump answers in kind.

Graham is a good man. Farcebook is evil. It’s no surprise they booted him, temporarily, for telling the truth about Satanism and mental illness worship. And, their apology rings as hollow as their promises to protect user privacy.
Facebook is apologizing to evangelist Franklin Graham for banning him from posting on the site for 24 hours last week, a Facebook spokesperson told The Charlotte Observer on Saturday.
It was a mistake to ban Graham over a 2016 post he made on the site, and a mistake to have taken down the post, the spokesperson said.
Facebook has restored the 2016 post and will apologize in a note to the administrator of Graham’s Facebook page, according to the Facebook spokesperson, who agreed to speak only on background, meaning without the spokesperson’s name.
A member of Facebook’s content review team — the team has 15,000 members — had mistakenly decided the post violated Facebook’s policy that bans “dehumanizing language” and excluding people based on sexual orientation, race and other factors, according to the spokesperson and Facebook’s written policy.
With respect to Rev. Graham, the rule-making is no secret:
Well, now we know. Facebook has a secret rulebook for policing speech. I was banned from posting on Facebook last week for 24 hours. Why? Because of a post from back in 2016 about North Carolina’s House Bill 2 (the bathroom bill). Facebook said the post went against their “community standards on hate speech.” Facebook is trying to define truth. There was a character in a movie a few years back who said, “The truth is what I say it is!” That’s what Facebook is trying to do. They’re making the rules and changing the rules. Truth is truth. God made the rules and His Word is truth. Actually, Facebook is censoring free speech. The free exchange of ideas is part of our country’s DNA. …

Use the enemy’s platform and accept their rules. To that end, a supporter sheepishly wondered: “[Kenan Lott]: Facebook has no right banning anything. If they keep it up someone will start a new better version for the people.” Actually, someone started another version and it was better. If you need social media – and I’m beginning to wonder why any of our People do – then try that site.

Changes are here and more are coming. America isn’t the country it was, even twenty years ago. The steadfast refusal of the average people to comprehend what’s happened and what’s right around the corner is simply astounding. Vox, on the horrors:
The near-total inability of the American people, and the U.S. government, to recognize the full horror of their situation is not exactly new. …
…
At least the Spanish people of the 19th century realized that they had been invaded and they were at war. Today, despite having been invaded by a force 250x larger than the Napoleonic army that invaded Spain, the American people still completely fail to understand that their country, their culture, their government, and their traditions are being fundamentally altered without their will or their consent.
Rather than a refusal, it could be an inability. In place of previous Spanish knowledge, the Americans have football, Farcebook, diabetes, screens, and tattoos.
If you’re reading this, and you understand what I mean, you’re the resistance. And, remember, saving the West may mean moving back East.

A bitter end for 2018, but an end 112 years in the making. America’s oldest man and cigar smoker has died.
Overton was born near Bastrop in 1906 and served in the army for three years during World War II. He spent the majority of his life in Austin and was often seen on the porch of his home, which he built in East Austin in 1945.
He gave credit to God for his longevity, but he always said cigars and whiskey helped.
“I been smoking cigars from when I was 18 years old, I’m still a smoking ‘em. 12 a day,” he said.
Another life cut short by evil tobacco…
He liked guns too.
I see the double fire selector, there.
A wonderful life.

It’s already started. Summers speaks concern:
The markets aren’t looking good, but former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers says not to panic … yet.
Amid a month of falling stocks, Summers cautioned that “weak markets” don’t necessarily mean “economic disaster is around the corner.” Still, he’s increasing his prediction of a recession from “a bit less than 50 percent” to 60 percent, he tweeted Wednesday.
Not yet… When it’s been noticeably in progress for six to nine months, then they’ll admit it.
Allegedly, we’ve been in a recovery, a boom market for many years now. According to Keynes, this was the time to pay off debts used to jump out of the last downturn. That didn’t happen. As-is, Fed-Gov has been spending the funny money like there’s no tomorrow.
The federal government has added another $1,370,760,684,441.54 to the debt since last December 25, according to numbers published by the U.S. Treasury.
On Dec. 25, 2017, the federal debt was 20,492,874,492,282.58, according to the Treasury.
According to the latest numbers published by the Treasury, which show where the debt stood on Dec. 20, 2018, the federal debt was $21,863,635,176,724.12.
Almost back on track for $40 T by 2024. Not that that really matters anymore.
