FP is starting a new interactive Q&A series with a bang. Like a bang in the sky followed by electronic silence. Here’s Scott Hughes on EMP, facts and protections:

flying cars, future, technology

Here they go again.

Well, it’s not a flying car. It’s a motorcycle. Prototype. Concept. Test. Not just quite ready for the market at this time.

Three years! 2025! Couple of decades. 23rd Century….

Whatever.

Introducing-the-Kitty-Hawk-Flyer-YouTube

Kitty Hawk.

Nice concept. However, I think 8 feet above water might be about right. As built, or as looks, this thing could have no glide factor. If the engine dies, pilot/rider dies. And obviously not suited for Class A cruising.

Anywho, plenty of YEARS to work that out, Buck Rogers.

Why I Don’t Do Internet Dating

culture, dating, government, internet, Ron Paul, society, Tinder

I was all set to run with a friendly evening warning from Ron Paul about the dangers of government during and after the dangers of a storm or disaster. See: Paul says Gubmint Bad!

True. But not as interesting as the following:

When it comes to internet or app dating I usually think about dullness, crazies, tubbies, has beens, and maybe the occasional serial killer. From now on I’ll think about this: Man’s Tinder date gets stuck upside-down in window trying to grab her own poo. Hmmmm…

Who says romance is dead? A Tinder date ended with the unforgettable spectacle of a young woman stuck upside-down in a window, trying to grab her own poo.

The unnamed – but athletic – girl ended up upside down inside the window after making a valiant effort to get rid of a massive poo she’d done which had blocked the bog.

Why not just break it up with the toilet brush, like any sane person?

The unnamed girl had been for a romantic meal at Nando’s with student Liam Smyth, 24, before they went back to his place for a nightcap.

But a bizarre chain of events unfolded after she went to the toilet and blocked the pan.

In panic, she picked up the stool and threw it out the window – but it fell down into a narrow gap.

…

I’m Perrin Lovett and I say romance is dead. Dead or going down the toilet. I really can’t tell. Is it swipe right or wipe right?

Epic poo problem

Not the gymnastics I like out of a girl… A sad corner of the interwebs.

The poor poo-chaser accomplished the dirty job but got stuck in the window. She was retrieved by firemen. The window was smashed. The date went on – I suppose.

So, is this sort of thing that one places on a dating “profile?” “Acrobatic dung disposal maven….” “My heart and toilet overflow….” “Looking for Mr. Plumber…” “Don’t call me. I’ll call… Call the fire brigade!” “Let’s poo this again…”

Not-so-Tender

Plenty of Crap

E-Toiletry

I have never been on or used any electronic dating service. And, with this story, that isn’t likely to change.

I kind of understand the allure of these sites. After my divorce I waited a while then ventured into the “real” dating world. Or, should I say, ventured into some strange alien planet. What the hell happened to you people while I was out?!

Nine tattoos, three psychotropic drugs, three convictions, and two kids/live-in exes/cats/whatever (all by 23!) isn’t exactly what I’m looking for in a woman. The good news (ha!) is that I seem to be a crazy magnet and the pool has gone utterly insane. The bad news (yeah) is that I seem to be a crazy magnet and the pool has gone utterly insane. I see a quality, not quantity, problem.

Things like Tinder seem to me just a virtual reality version of the nut house/bar scene – but maybe worse.

That’s my first defense against on-line “love”: I don’t need it. I have no shortage of available options (usually hot, almost always loony); it’s just a matter of my … tolerance.

Second, I’m a Sigma (just found out about that designation!). We cause problems but we never have problems. Okay, we have them – we just don’t care.

Lastly … did you read the freak show story above!?

“How’d the date go? Get to second base? Third? All the way?!!!”

“Naaah. We got stuck in the toilet under the stands. Fire department came. No biggie. Got her number.”

You can keep this big steaming pile of dung. A literal, actual pile of …

Now, please tell me YOUR success story with (fill in the blank) service! How the picture was only 15 years and 40 pounds out of date. How she only turned out to be a he once. How you only got stabbed that one time. Stuff like that. Go on…

flying cars, Lilium, yeah...

That was an actual Drudge headline. See:

nimbus-image-1504612607532

nimbus-image-1504614184946

This story is a little different than the usual flying car hype job in that a German startup did really get a prototype off the ground.

Lilium/YouTube.

2.6 Million viewers – not bad. And I am impressed that the thing flew. However, that does not equate to being able to purchase and fly one for personal transportation. Not yet.

Neither the Times story nor the company placed the usual time frame on delivery. That’s usually anywhere between “later this year” and “never.” Remember, I’ve been following these things for over 25 years.

300 KPH (186 MPH) ain’t bad. A 300 Km range is. And I’d like to see the prototype operate with passengers. Could it?

I’ve said before, “I’ll believe it when I fly it.” I stand by that. And I really do want to believe.

So, let’s go, Lilium, or whomever. Wheels up!

Eric Peters on Avoiding Harvey-Flooded Autos

cars, Eric Peters, Hurricane Harvey, Texas

They’re coming – and not around Texas. In a few months many of these doomed cars will start appearing at used car lots nationwide. Harvey has destroyed an estimated 500,000 cars in Houston alone and damaged maybe a million more.

On a positive side note, these cars will have to be replaced. Harvey may, just may, save the automotive industry or, at least, prolong its decline for perhaps a season or a year.

Peters has the lowdown on sedans-turned-submarines and how to avoid owning one:

The cars – many of them brand-new – are declared total losses and the dealership gets compensated by the insurance company. The cars ought to be recycled at this point – or parted out (some parts are still perfectly usable). But because it is not hard – for the expert crooked car seller – to pull out the carpet, dry the obvious things, clean the car up and then (critical) efface any mention of “salvage” or “flood damage” from the car’s title/vehicle history report – and then sell the seemingly near-new/low-miles car far, far away from the source of its swim, he does exactly that.

And this is a ride you do not want to take.

Don’t buy one unless you’re starting a reef. EP Autos.

An Extreme Challenge

damn..., Ivan Throne, pepper spray challenge

More extreme than the ice bucket. Ivan Throne does the Pepper Spray Challenge. It’s like the ice but it’s pepper spray. In the eyes. While continuing to do squats.

Yeah.

Before you click any further – don’t try this at home! Unless you want to or need to … anyway:

Ivan Throne/YouTube.

Dark Triad Man.

I’ll say it again: Do not mess with the Dark Triad Man.

This is actually pretty good training if you’re going to the front lines against the antifa communists. They regularly deploy the spray in their pursuit of peace and harmony. Wonder if Soros pay for it too? I would say avoid places where they or other protesting zombie groups might congregate but, then again, I avoid almost all places unless they sell cigars and/or booze.

Yes, I took the challenge myself – doing deadlifts. Funny thing was the camera wasn’t working. Odd, that. Oh heck…

I will regale you with a similar funny story. Once I dined at an Indian restaurant. They must have been a little short-staffed as the owner herself took our order. I got something curry. We’ll say it was chicken. (Always say chicken).

She asked sweetly: “How would you like that?”

Me: “Hot!”

Her, again sweetly: “Your hot? Or OUR hot?”

Me: “Your hot.”

I ate it. It was THEIR hot. And it was darned good though the after effects lasted for a week maybe.

If you feel compelled to try the challenge at home and under the given hypothetical circumstances, then I might offer an alternative exercise. Maybe start with weights or something. Then get sprayed. Then immediately drop the bar and practice close-quarters, close-retention, fast draws with rapid antifa communist ventilation.

The capsaicin should help eliminate the urge to aim, which you shouldn’t do in these drills anyway. Just point and click, rapidly and repeatedly. Then go have “their hot” at the local Indian/Thai/Vietnamese place. Odds are you won’t even notice.

And, yes, I am getting around to the massacre on 129 – sooner or later. Probably later.

Ahem. Missed another day. Sorry. Won’t happen again.

To make up for it I thought to regale y’all with the Tale of the Great Plecia Nearctica Internecion of 2017 (recently occurred). That shall wait for another day and perhaps a poetic dissertation. Maybe as a paid feature through my equally neglected Patreon Page. Maybe. Perhaps. Ahem.

nimbus-image-1504142974468

It got ugly before it got sad.

Anyhow, with the silliness aside now, I give you Mark Nestmann’s take on the coming government shutdown that won’t be a real shutdown and probably won’t even happen.

On or around October 2, the US federal government will shut down – again. The actual date could be a bit earlier or later, depending on how the government’s cash flows.

Technically, the government should have shut down on March 15, 2017. That was the date that a congressionally approved temporary extension of the debt ceiling expired. So on that date, the amount of debt on the books ($19.808 trillion) became the new debt ceiling. Since then, the Treasury hasn’t been able to issue any more federal debt.

Instead of shutting down the government, the Treasury has been cooking the books to pay the bills. Payments to federal worker’s retirement and disability funds have ended. The Treasury has also borrowed against federal pension, Social Security, and Medicare trust funds. But that can only go on so long. Without congressional authorization to raise the debt ceiling, some government services will have to end in about a month.

President Trump and congressional leaders want to raise the debt ceiling without any more restrictions. It’s easy to see why. Politicians get re-elected when they spend money on things that benefit voters, and just as importantly, when they spend on things that benefit the people and corporations that finance their campaigns.

But the influential Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives opposes an unlimited increase in the debt ceiling. It favors raising the debt ceiling “only” an additional $1.5 trillion – just enough to keep the government afloat until after the mid-term elections in November 2018. The Freedom Caucus also wants to cut federal spending. Trump and congressional leaders have to take the Freedom Caucus seriously because the Freedom Caucus’s opposition to the partial repeal of Obamacare doomed that initiative earlier this year.

…

It’s reassuring that the staunch conservatives and libertarians from the Caucus want to hold at a measly $1.5 Trillion. Why not cut the crap and make it $1.5 Quadrillion? Maybe a little more?

As I did back in ’95 I support the shutdown (that won’t happen). Houston looters can fill in for the IRS. Drunk monkeys can sufficiently steer the 7th Fleet. And, I tell you from experience, you can still use the National Parks – actually easier without rangers around if you don’t mind jumping gates.

Make of this what you will.

And be careful driving through those cotton fields!
