I Was Wrong About Guns

This is embarrassing, really, but it is important to correct one’s errors. I apologize in advance if I’ve misled anyone.

For a long time I’ve been countering hysterical, communist gun control lies with a set of statistics. Chief among them was the claim that guns save roughly 1 million American lives each year. That’s simply not true.

They save 2 MILLION. Every. Single. Year.

The CDC said so (or would have, if they didn’t have an agenda):

An unpublished Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study confirms Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck’s findings of more than two million defensive handgun uses (DGUs) per year.

Since the early 1990s, Kleck has maintained that there is a minimum of 760,000 DGUs annually. That is his low estimate; Kleck and research partner Marc Gertz have contended the actual number is closer to 2.5 million.

Kleck reaffirmed his numbers on February 17, 2015, explaining that while plenty of naysayers have criticized his findings, none have been able to offer empirical evidence to counter them.

Now, a CDC study conducted on data from 1996, 1997, and 1998 has been uncovered. The study, which was never released to the public, shows approximately 2.46 million DGUs per year.

Or it is 2.5 Million? Regardless, this was a government study so it cannot be questioned. The failure to publish can’t really be criticized either – the agenda and all.

In my defense I settled on the erroneous 1 million out of an abundance of statistical caution. It seemed a safe round off point. Now that I know better, it’s 2 million from now on. That’s about one life saved, one defensive usage, every 15 seconds. I wonder if Young Hogg will mention that in his forthcoming book? Guessing, and I could be wrong, that’s a big “no.”

An interesting, subtle, and telling admission from The Guardian and the media guardians of the Deep State. The tinfoil hat factory had better turn it up a notch. Many thanks, as usual, to Vox Day:

Even its proponents are now admitting its existence and are worrying that it might have gone too far:

America doesn’t have coups or tanks in the street. But a deep state of sorts exists here and it includes national security bureaucrats who use secretly collected information to shape or curb the actions of elected officials.

Some see these American bureaucrats as a vital check on the law-breaking or authoritarian or otherwise illegitimate tendencies of democratically elected officials. Others decry them as a self-serving authoritarian cabal that illegally and illegitimately undermines democratically elected officials and the policies they were elected to implement.

The truth is that the deep state, which is a real phenomenon, has long been both a threat to democratic politics and a savior of it. The problem is that it is hard to maintain its savior role without also accepting its threatening role. The two go hand in hand, and are difficult to untangle.

…

Next, as the chips may fall, the media will insist it was always aware of and against the deep state machinations. Then, anyone who questions that will be a conspiracy nut. Keep your eye on the ball.

What does this mean? Who knows. I’m still not completely convinced there’s a “storm” coming, as useful as that would be. One can hope. There’s no doubt, call them what you will, there is a crooked band of Satanists lurking just under the surface. I am convinced, come what may, most of the public will remain willfully ignorant of or indifferent to the truth.

If, when all this proves reality, America, what will you do about it? The remote, the brewers, and the tattooists await your wise, informed decision.

Down in Cigar-Land people seem to tire of Daniel Ortega, again:

Mr Ortega has offered talks but protest leaders have refused, saying police violence must stop first.

Government buildings have been damaged or set on fire, and troops have been deployed in several cities.

Students from Polytechnic University in Managua have barricaded their campus. At least 100 people have been injured.

Pope Francis has called for an end to the violence and for differences to “be resolved peacefully and with a sense of responsibility.”

One human rights group reported that the death toll was more than 25.

Ortega got his political start as a student protester. Full circle. The funding, or lack thereof, for government pensions is and/or will be a sore point from Managua to Paris to Hartford.

No word whether this has reached Esteli or Jalapa. Leave the leaves out of this, please.

Y’all stay safe.

Hold on to your ARs! Superstar Survivor David Hogg (rhymes with “slog,” as in the tiring noun usage) readies a new and sure-to-be trendy book on how you need to surrender your lives to communism. It’s anterior title is #NeverAgain.

One hopes, given the title, it may be the last time we have to hear from the spaghetti-armed bully who is totally not a crisis actor. More likely it’ll be the long-awaited sequel to the utter fairy tale bullshit that was Michael Bellesiles’s (pronounced: “l-i-a-r”) Arming America.

Captain Boogie Board is probably out hawking it at one of today’s marches for Marx. Good luck, kid.

If you’re into truth, then seriously consider Tom Wood’s new work, Wrong About Guns.

There’s an Epidemic of Low-IQ Arguments Against Guns

Supporters of gun rights are being accused of child murder, and liking their guns more than their children. Time to fight back.

Inside this free eBook:

* Why civilians have a much better record than police at stopping mass shootings — the numbers will shock you

* Don’t countries with tougher gun laws have fewer gun fatalities? Here’s the real truth

* How concealed-carry laws reduce violent crime

* The truth about “assault weapons”

* The bogus constitutional arguments of the anti-gun lobby

* The only reasonable approach to school shootings

Yes. It’s FREE. Get a copy, right now, HERE!

That would be yours truly. Over at The Piedmont Chronicles. Our inaugural outing:

Zuck It Up: On the Meeting of a Social Mogul and the Contemptible Congress

Br’re Fox and Br’er Bear Outwit Br’er Rabbit

…

The great concern of the people is that Facebook violated their privacy and misappropriated their cherished personal information: email addresses, voting habits, cat pictures, etc. Zuckerberg admitted as much, roundaboutly. Hence, the popular clamor for regulation: if not from Big Social, then by Big Brother.

Now for my funny, impromptu thought. Remember Uncle Remus? Surely your parents read to you those beloved moral stories by Joel Chandler Harris. It seems to me that what I witnessed on the Tube was, literally, a meeting between a sly, elitist, globalist corporatist and a bunch of mid-witted, elitist, globalist statists. Allegorically, I saw an Uncle Remus tale unfold.

The American people played the part of Br’er Rabbit. Facebook and Zuck represented Br’er Fox. Uncle Sam was Br’er Bear. Play along here… The happy little rabbit, while busily posting meal pictures and juvenile memes, noticed the mean old fox was cheating him. Incensed, the rabbit angrily demanded action, either from the fox or from Br’er Bear. In other words the hapless bunny tattled on the small predator to the large predator. Seems risky to me.

"war" on drugs, drugs, fat, health, literacy, obesity, reading

These three kind of go together. I like finding semi-related issues or tales and mixing them together; James Altucher calls it “idea sex.” Anyway, it’s been a long day so I’ll leave the interweaving to you and those XXX minds…

All three are health matters, if you will. All three are important. Here goes:

Canadian Liberals Attempt to Decriminalize ALL Illicit Drugs

Go Liberals! Read the reasons why and then about the experience in Portugal. This was also one of Ron Paul’s ideas back when elections still sorta almost mattered. If Canada becomes the first G7 to return to the traditional minding of one’s own health business, trust the US to be last.

Labels, Public Info Everywhere, 10,000 Diets Books, and Americans are Still Getting Fatter

Drugs, guns, knives, cars, bad doctors, and just about everything else take a backseat; this is THE epidemic. It’s one with surprisingly simple solutions but also with extremely organized enemies of the public health.

American Man Graduated from College and Taught School for 17 Years and He was Illiterate

In a nation awash in money, schools, books, ebooks, and free time, a horrendous percentage of the people either can’t read, can’t read well, or won’t read. This vexes more than just the word-slinging mercenaries. “Adults who can’t read are suspended in their childhoods, emotionally, psychologically, academically, spiritually. We haven’t grown up yet.” He got help. There’s always hope.

Maybe that’s the tie-in. We, collectively speaking, can make it all better: health and fitness, crime-free sobriety OR responsible enjoyment, and reading the fun and wisdom of the ages.

Not so much wisdom here, tonight, I fear. Tired. Long (good) day.

Evening, friends.

Total Knife Control Failure

The failings of knife control are as predictable as the failings of gun control. Even in a place where everything is controlled and all weapons are strictly forbidden. A lesson from a South Carolina prison:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Inmates armed with homemade knives fought each other for about seven hours over territory and money, leaving seven of them dead in the worst U.S. prison riot in a quarter-century, officials said Monday. An inmate who witnessed the violence told The Associated Press that bodies were “literally stacked on top of each other.”

At least 17 prisoners were seriously injured at Lee Correctional Institution, South Carolina prisons chief Bryan Stirling said. The first fight started in a dorm about 7:15 p.m. Sunday and appeared to be contained before suddenly starting in two other dorms. Cellphones helped stir up the trouble, and state officials urged the federal government to change a law and allow them to block the signals from prisoners’ phones.

Criminals gonna criminal. And if they can’t get weapons, they make them. Someone pass this along to the Khan Man.

Temporal proximity raises speculation: will SC be the target of Young Hogg’s next bullying session?

Happy Tax Day Eve!

As you prepare to make those last minute payments to Mordor, please consider what the money, some of it, is spent on:

Caught in a Lie, US & Allies Bomb Syria the Night Before International Inspectors Arrive

On April 12, even US Secretary of Defense James Mattis told the House Armed Services Committee that the US government does not have any evidence that sarin or chlorine was used, that he was still looking for evidence.

Syria, finding the claims to be lies and the sources tainted, requested that the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) immediately come to Syria to investigate the claims. Accordingly, the OPCW agreed to send a team—the visas for which Syria granted immediately—which arrived in Damascus on April 14.

President Trump, instead of waiting for an investigation to confirm his ‘evidence,’ chose the very night before this investigative team would arrive in Syria to inspect the allegations, to bomb Syria. The timing of the attacks is more than just a little timely. And the bombings were illegal.

This is the same OPCW that lately took the Russian chemical out of the alleged Russian chemical poison attack in London.

Ah, heck with “facts.”

Quick recap: Assad used Tower 7 yellow cake, in a surprise attack, to sink the Maine in the Gulf of Tonkin, in violation of unarmed neutrality (NO weapons on board), necessitating income tax withholding only until the Taliban are defeated at Charleston Harbor. That’s the truth! Your taxes: pay them.

The US, UK, and France bombed Syria overnight.

Someone said there was proof of a gas attack there. Don’t look forward to ever seeing it. There may have been an attack. The boy may have seen a real wolf. And it may have been carried out by Assad. And that might have been our problem if it hadn’t possibly, maybe, kinda, sorta happened over there. A Syrian attack against New York or Tennessee would be a different thing entirely.

As is, Damascus is some 5,900 miles away from Washington. Whatever happens there, it should not be our problem. The Trump used to think and say as much.

nimbus-image-1523711778949

The Trump/Twitter.

Seems it is now…

An optimistic note: These actions will hopefully not lead to full-blown nuclear war. More likely, they are semi-calculated pin pricks just to let the world know how tough America is. Tough looks a lot like stupid. Rumor has it that high level talks are already underway between Russia, the West, and the rest of the meddlers to avert major disaster.

Developing…and poorly…

Sharpening the double-edged sword:

The Zuck is on the Hill, facing off against a panel of Senatorial Congress Critters:

Some of the toughest questioning so far comes from Sen. Lindsey Graham, who pushes Zuckerberg on whether Facebook is a monopoly.

When asked straight up whether Facebook has a monopoly, Zuckerberg responds “It certainly doesn’t feel like that to me.” The response is met with some gentle laughter.

Graham stays on him, also asking about European regulations and if those rules are right.

“I think they get things right,” Zuckerberg responds, followed by a few more light chuckles.

Chuckles aside, ask yourself this: “When has government regulation ever worked out all that well?” And I’m talking from a freedom of action perspective.

As big, bad, intrusive, and even dangerous as Facebook may be, I’m not aware of them, or any other Social, ever putting a gun to anyone’s head to compel usage, payment, or actions. I could be wrong; I would have asked about it had I been there…

The same cannot be said for government, any government. They have been known to point and click with guns and worse weapons. The State is force. Period.

Facebook, and all the socials, already fall under one form or existing regulation or another. There’s a reason Zuck is being so polite and helpful seeming today. He knows that, with 55 million or 80 million privacy violations, Facebook could be FTC fined out of existence. It won’t be but it could be.

Rather, I see a bunch of Uniparty animals chomping at the bit to further intrude into the internet – for our good and safety and all of course. Is that really what we need?

I assume the answer from most Americans is a big, blank, unconcerned, drooling stare.

UPDATE: A few things:

  • Listening to many of these questions and grandstands is more cringeworthy than most of the answers. “I do’h wanna reg-ya-late ya but golly gee ah will!”
  • Today privacy is largely an illusion – especially if you willingly put yourself out there without encryption, VPNs, etc. You do that? Buyer, escuse me, … freebie user beware.
  • A good friend reminded me that we’ve all known that the government tracks, records, stores, and misappropriates all electronic communications and that we’ve known it for years. (Originally one of them thar crazy conspiracy theories…) Knowing all that, how many folks do NOT use email, socials, and phones? Yeah.
  • NO! Most people don’t read disclaimers. That would require reading.
  • Large corporations LOVE regulation. It’s not them versus the government. It’s them and the government versus you and any poor startups. “Protecting” you by ensuring their monopolies and increased profits.
  • We’re witnessing the mass slander of the free market and the sense of the people. The latter might be warranted.
  • “Senator. Senator… Senator!” How about: “listen scumbag” and “you criminals”?
  • With all these idiots babbling about the complexity of the user agreements, Zuck could just answer: “Enough about me. How about YOUR tax code?”
  • Can’t believe I’m taking the side of Zuck and Co. here.
  • Geeze…

th

Zuck it up. Drudge.
