What Happens if Trump Refuses Arrest?

Nothing, to Trump. Much, perhaps, to others. Highly speculative answers to highly speculative questions. The shallow, historically uniformed intellectualism of the popular press never ceases to disappoint. In furtherance of the “Russia, Russia, Russia” mania, Joy Reid and the panel of “experts” at MSNBC ponder the ridiculously improbable:

Sunday on her weekend morning program, MSNBC’s Joy Reid seriously discussed a situation where President Trump refused a subpoena and would have to be arrested and put in jail until he testified before a grand jury. Reid envisioned a scenario of a White House besieged by federal marshals who would wait for Trump to give the Secret Service a stand down order so he could be taken into custody.

“Let’s say that Donald Trump decides he doesn’t want to give an interview with Mueller, but Mueller says ‘Oh, but you will.’ And he’s subpoenaed to [be] interview[ed] [by] Robert Mueller. And Donald Trump simply says, ‘I don’t recognize that subpoena.’ This is a president whose behavior is different as president of the United States. He doesn’t follow convention. Who would force him to comply with the subpoena ordering him to do an interview with Robert Mueller?” Reid asked.

“It would be a federal court judge,” former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman said.

“How would they enforce it?” she asked.

They wouldn’t. It’s as simple as that. It’s settled “legal” territory. See: Ex parte Merryman (1861) and associated proceedings.

President Lincoln suspended the right of habeas corpus during the questionable American “civil” war. Said suspension was challenged in federal court. Following a conclusion Lincoln’s suspension was unconstitutional, Lincoln and his army refused to comply with the ruling and with the orders of the judiciary.

A federal marshal informed Chief Justice Roger Taney of the row and requested instruction. Little was decided by the high court other than Taney’s resignment to the fact his marshal and associated posse comitatus were woefully outgunned by Lincoln’s standing army. At the White House it was decided Taney was interfering with the war efforts. Lincoln wrote up an executive warrant for Taney’s arrest. Cooler heads prevailed upon the President and the warrant was never executed.

But, unlike the court’s paper, Lincoln’s could have been, would have been easily affected. Taney narrowly escaped a fate well-known to more a few of his contemporaries. Lincoln arrested plenty of people on similar specious charges, including at least one federal judge and a member of Congress.

Couple this “precedent” with the modern interpretation of “enemy combatant” and one prays cooler heads are still on call around DC.

One could also pray for the grace of knowledge among the popular talking heads. That might be asking a bit much, even from the Almighty.

This is What Comes After Gun Control

Everything control. Like SJWs, gun controllers always lie. And after they get the guns, they still can’t stop stealing. They move onto things like assault knives: see London’s campaign of sheer idiocy:

An epidemic of stabbings and acid attacks in London has gotten so bad that London mayor Sadiq Khan is announcing broad new “knife control” policies designed to keep these weapons of war out of the hands of Londoners looking to cause others harm.

The “tough, immediate” measures involve an incredible police crackdown, a ban on home deliveries of knives and acid, and expanding law enforcement stop-and-search powers so that police may stop anyone they believe to be a threat, or planning a knife or acid attack.

Khan announced Friday that the city has created a “violent crime taskforce of 120 officers” tasked with rooting out knife-wielding individuals in public spaces, and is pumping nearly $50 million into the Metropolitan Police department so that they can better arm themselves against knife attacks. He’s also empowering the Met Police to introduce “targeted patrols with extra stop and search powers for areas worst-affected,” according to a statement.

The mayor took to Twitter to announce his new policies. “No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.”

Strangely enough, Khan is responsible for decreasing the number of stop-and-searches, having previously declared the tactic racist and potentially Islamophobic. It’s also not clear what local Londoners will now use to cut their food.

Parliament is also set to take up heavy “knife control” legislation when it resumes this week. The U.K. government is expected to introduce a ban on online knife sales and home knife deliveries, declare it “illegal to possess zombie knives and knuckledusters in private” — “zombie knives” are those defined as being manufactured for the purpose of being used as a person-to-person weapon — and ban sales of caustic materials to anyone under the age of 18, the Independent reports.

London has seen a dramatic uptick in murder rates, surpassing even New York City in the number of homicides every month since the beginning of 2018. It has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world, and, technically, knives carried “without good reason” are off limits to anyone under the age of 18.

This is “your” government, post gun control. No, the gun murders don’t stop, increasing rather. And neither does the theft of property and liberty by those who disarmed the people.

“There is never a reason to carry a knife...” In dystopian Londonistan steaks now cut themselves, envelopes open at the asking, and string is merely wished in two. Or maybe they’re banning all those things as well. “Caustic” chemicals too. What’s that include? Break dust cleaner? Drain cleaner? Toothpaste? H2O? Water, aka Hydric ACID, is caustic.

Really, what’s next on the list? Cars? Vans? Baseball bats. Hammers? Rocks? Sticks? Hands and feet? The creative mind?

I joked about this kind of stuff repeatedly, half joked. Here is proof of the harsh truth behind satire and sarcastic rhetoric.

This is what comes after you surrender the guns, America. This is also what comes when you surrender your nation to incompatible foreigners and the communist cult of the multi-“culture.” Paying attention?

Rather than give any of the million refutative reasons to carry a knife, I’ll just close like this: There is never a reason to turn your city over to a psychotic semi-savage in a suit.  There is never a reason to surrender your guns, your knives, or your freedom. Do so at your own extreme risk.

England, gun control, insanity, knife control, London, Sadiq Khan

A Re-Post from The Last Refuge. Seriously, this is where liberal insanity goes eventually. The nuts won’t stop with AR-15s. Or single-barrel shotguns. Or even with knives. And, Wrath of Kahn, I carry a knife everywhere and everyday; used it yesterday to open some bags of gravel and sand for gardening. Come catch me. I’d enjoy that. Not that my yard habits are any of his business. His business is packing up and GTFO of GB.

Liberalism has consequences. This is not a spoof – Link To Tweet:

One can beget the other and visa versa.

An Englishman reflects on his nation and associated continent.

People, any people, will only put up with the Richard Osborne-Brooks treatment for so long. Likewise, very likewise, they’ll only put up with Imperial totalitarianism for so long.

SC legislators prep secession movement over Second Amendment.

After all, if ,like JP Stevens, the Second Amendment is merely a relic of the 18th century, then so too must be the Union.

Interesting times.

Sandbagging on #VanControl

It has happened again. As if the vehicular attack on John Daly wasn’t enough, we now have this:

Man Drives Lorry (Van/Minibus) Through German Market, 2 Innocents Dead, 20+ Injured.

German police are scouring a flat for explosives after a man ploughed a minibus into a crowd of people and shot himself dead, killing two people and injuring 20 others in Münster, Germany.

Six people are in critical condition and dozens more are injured after the vehicle was driven at high speed towards families outside the popular Grosser Kiepenkerl bar in the university city, 300 miles west of Berlin.

Terrified diners watched as the driver shot and killed himself inside the vehicle at 3.27pm local time.

He has been named locally as Jens Handeln, 48, a German national with ‘psychological problems’ and no links to any terrorist organisations.

Police are currently searching the driver’s apartment for explosives and also investigating reports that two other people were seen fleeing the van after the crash.

Not terror! Just scouring for explosives for the fun of it.

ISIS. A Vegan Farsi nut-job. Crazed criminal. Confused elderly. Bad brakes. Mentally ill. Whatever. The motives and/or actual causation don’t matter, the weapon does. Enough is enough! I blame the (German) National Lorry, Van, and Minibus Association, or NLVMA, if that’s at all possible.

What civilian needs such a large, deadly, hi-capacity, deadly, fully automatic (seen a manual lately?), military-style, deadly, lethal, too powerful, deadly, assault van? No one – except for the police and the military and, okay, maybe the beer delivery guy. You, Mr. NLVMA supporter, can make do with Segway.

#vancontrol

#lorrycontrol

#minibuscontrol

Where’s Young Hogg and his skinhead LGBBTIUQQQQQLXZZZHUIGBBMMIOPPDCYA buddy?

Will CNN classify this as another school shooting™?

There was a shot, you know. The unstable, NOT-a-terrorist, terrorist driver shot and killed himself at the scene. In a country with alarming strict gun control laws. He must have been a member of one of those “hunting clubs” we’ve heard so much about. That, or a terrorist. Amazing! They have gun control for everyone except terrorists and “hunters” but absolutely no control over those WMDs on wheels otherwise known as lorries (sometimes vans or minibuses). Ban them!

Wait, wait, Hogg and what’s her head may be busy with another case in America. Yes, this also has happened again:

4 Teens Mollycoddled After Killing Man With Assault Sandbag.

Four Toledo, Ohio, teenagers accused of killing a man when they dropped a sandbag from a highway overpass have been ordered to a youth treatment facility, a court official said.

“The youth treatment center is a lockdown facility in Toledo. The program runs six months, but there is no set time to release. The average youth spends eight months there,” Lori Olender, juvenile division deputy chief for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, said in an email.

Besides being ordered to the youth treatment facility, the teenagers were given four-year suspended sentences, placed on probation and ordered to perform 30 hours of community service, Olender said.

One was charged with murder and felonious assault and three were charged with involuntary manslaughter and vehicular vandalism, she said. All four pleaded guilty, The Toledo Blade newspaper reported.

The youths were charged after a sandbag dropped from an interstate overpass crashed through the window of a vehicle below and hit Marquise Byrd, 22, on December 19, 2017. He died later at a hospital.

Odd. I got this from CNN but I see no mention of a school shooting™. Oh well, everyone misses something sometimes; AC might still be recovering from that stormy interview.

I blame, not the actual criminal “youths,” but the powerful and all-too connected National Sandbag Association. Seriously, it’s not the little kids’ fault; a man is dead but a little community service and some treatment will make everything okay. You watch. Everything, that is, except for the ridiculous proliferation of ULTRA-hi-capacity (know how many grains go in one), assault-style sandbags.

Police and military. Average citizen. Repeal the 15th Amendment. Yadda, yadda.

You can’t use a sandbag to hunt.

They are of no use at all to homeowners in low-lying, flood-prone areas.

No use whatsoever – except for killing passing motorists.

And can you imagine what would happen if an assault sandbag collided with a bump lorry?!! We’d be looking at a G-D civil war! Ban ’em while there’s still time!

#sandbagcontrol.

Big John Daly is Okay

Augusta, crime, golf, Hooters, John Daly, Masters

They used to have a bumper sticker in Augusta: “Pray for me. I drive on Washington Road.” Sure, several places in America have heavier traffic, but that strip between Calhoun (John C. not Algonquin J.) Expressway and … the lake? is bad enough. Now it’s not even safe to stand off to the side of it on a Friday morning. Everyone’s favorite neon golfer, John Daly, learned that the hard way.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – John Daly injured his right knee on Friday when a car travelling down Washington Road lost control and ran off the road, crashed through a line of temporary fencing and into his RV that was parked next to a restaurant.

Daly, who sells merchandise from his RV each year during the Masters, was standing in front of his RV with his fiancée, Anna Cladakis, when the accident occurred.

“It whaled into the front of the bus,” Cladakis told GolfChannel.com. “John dove out of the way, he tweaked his knee.”

I heard a rumor that the lady behind the offending wheel was DUI. Then again, one hears a lot of rumors in Augusta this week: kids’ golf, women’s golf, THE END OF CIGARS ON THE COURSE (yeah….), hi-rise hotels, property purchases, monorail, private airport, the true belief that screaming at a ball may direct its course towards a hole, someone knows a guy who knows a guy that saw something, etc.. Strange times in a strange town.

All know seeing this bus at Hooters each year is not strange:

The Daly Bus in happier times. Perrin.

I read a couple of stories about the incident from the popular press. First, maybe it’s the golfing and New York media that are “outlandish.” John is merely outrageous. For that, we love him. Him and his … eye-catching … merchandise. We even love his signing:

He’s pretty good! Happier times… Perrin/YT.

We just don’t want him hurt, thank you.

I’ve ranted before about how bad many most America drivers really are. This week in a-town witnesses some of the worst of the worst. John’s wasn’t the only big bus “accident” of the week. This woman, if she was drunk, wasn’t the only one. In fact, if she was sober, she could have been the only one. I think a house cat might assume better control of a car. Confidence is not inspired. **Americans: either learn to drive or else await the robo cars (not long…).**

Happily, Daly, tweaked knee or not, is okay. I verified as much.

I see him from time to time, year to year. He figured into my Happy Little Cigar Book even.

jd

Daly and some cigar-crazed nut in happier times. Perrin.

As luck – or purposeful maneuvering – would have it, I caught up with Big John last night. He was limping but otherwise moving well and pretty quick. I asked how he was. He replied: “It hurts a little but we’re alright.”

Then, we’re all alright.

Strange fiction begets stranger reality?

Building on the news that London has displaced New York in knife and gun murders (despite the gun control thing):

Hospital staff compare the situation in The Great Wen to that of an Afghan war zone.

The shock comments made Thursday morning come after two more men were killed overnight, a couple of days after another night of violence saw a boy, 16, stabbed to death and a 17-year-old girl shot in a “drive by”.

Wednesday night’s killings, both in Hackney, East London, brought the death toll from suspected murder in the capital to 50 so far this year, pulling away from New York City, which London overtook at the weekend.

Dr. Mark Griffiths, the lead surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust in East London, said that knife and gun wounds had moved from a “niche” part of his job to a daily chunk of his workload, and a growing number of victims were “children”.

“Some of my military colleagues have described their practice here as similar to being at [Camp] Bastion,” Dr Griffiths told the Today programme on BBC Radio 4.

“We used to look after people in their twenties. Now people are often in their mid to late teens and children in school uniforms are being admitted under our care with knife and gun wounds.”

So, how’s that near total gun control working out, England? Gun wounds require guns just as civilization requires the civilized. Can’t have the one without the other.

The outlander Mayor finally responded to the rising, predictable violence:

“The Mayor is shocked and angered by the violent deaths on the streets of London this year.

“He is heartbroken that so many of those taken have been young lives – and his thoughts are with their friends and family at this difficult time.

…

“The safety of Londoners is his number one priority.

Anger and heartbreak are understandable. How could this all come as a shock to any cognizant individual?

Saaaaaaaafety… Maybe freedom should be the number one priority? Then, second, homogeneity? Somewhere along the way safety might take care of itself.

Nah. Ignore the guns. And certain factors demographic. Blame the knives. “Surrender your knife save a life!“ #knifecontrol.

uk-knife-control

It’s no longer possible to even make this crap up… Downtrend.

Something in all this reminded me of a very recent Christopher DeGroot piece at Taki’s Mag: The Education of America. Kind of fits (without need for a separate column…). One would think men would learn. They had better.

eulogy, John Anderson, law, law school, politics

That’s what I always called him: Professor Anderson. Not Congressman. Not Mr. Anderson. Not John. Professor. That’s how I knew him.

This continues by series of belated eulogies. (I always find out well after the fact). John B. Anderson, former Illinois Congressman, died Dec. 3, 2017 at age 95. WaPo did a pretty good job of capturing the spirit of his political career. The terms in Congress. The Presidential run in 1980. The issues he thought important and his college teaching.

I knew him from law school. His Constitutional Decision Making and Electoral Process Classes were two electives and two of the few classes I actually enjoyed. He was really into electoral politics, with ideas a bit strange – yet, really, no stranger than the effete system you currently “enjoy.”

The Con Law class was were my work on Posse Comitatus first took shape, outside of a progenitor thought during a G. Gordon Liddy show episode. He initially took the research concept with a grain of salt. The grain developed when the subject contemporaneously arose from the DC sniper case(s). He heard something on the radio and called me with invigorated excitement. The rest was superfluous legal history.

I recall a visit to the Anderson home in Washington one summer (2002, I think). Professor A. and Keke graciously received my wife and I one sticky afternoon. In Keke I believe I saw some of the genesis of that “independent” proclivity. In truth, it looked more like liberalism than rebelliousness. But it was civil and interesting.

Such was the relationship. And the education. The above classes, like most, provided less overt substance than one would have supposed. However it was the idea bouncing that helped, that mattered. One needs that from time to time: someone to bounce the thoughts off. Someone independent.

Godspeed, Professor Anderson.

This all started when an ATM talked back to me. I’m not even sure anymore if this part of our “highly respected web log” is satire or a dire warning.

Anyway, BIG doins in South Korea:

A TOP South Korean university is secretly developing a killer Artificial Intelligence robot army that could destroy humanity, scientists fear.

KAIST university allegedly launched a new AI weapons lab in February, leading dozens of researchers to believe the products will “have the potential to be weapons of terror”.

A top university in South Korea is secretly developing a killer AI robot army, scientists have warned. Could it lead to a takeover in the style of Terminator, pictured?
Toby Walsh, a professor at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, organised the boycott with 49 other researchers.

He said in an open letter: “If developed, autonomous weapons will … permit war to be fought faster and at a scale great than ever before.

“They will have the potential to be weapons of terror.”

KAIST said it had “no intention to engage in development of lethal autonomous weapons systems and killer robots”.

“We have no intention to launch a killer AI weapons lab. We merely launched a killer AI weapons lab. Launched it in secret. Possibly resulting in the end of humanity. What the heck’s the problem?”

And you thought North Korea was trouble.

They’re going to hold another Geneva Convention to head this stuff off. Better call the Avengers, the Super Friends, and Captain Kangaroo too.
