culture, decline, New York, Taki

Taki, the old rascal, prepares to seasonally vacate The Bagel. His remembrance of what may have once been.

So what does an older man do when alone in a city that once offered a lot and now, less than zero? Well, last week I went up to Provincetown for Michael Mailer’s mother’s memorial. I spoke a few words, met a lot of artistic people—she was a beautiful actress of the ’50s and ’60s, Beverly Bentley—and came back with a hangover that lasted for a good week. Provincetown is now mostly a gay town, a bit honky-tonk, but what shocked me the most was when we filmed a documentary in Norman Mailer’s last home. There was a plaque outside, but inside—it has since been sold to a private buyer—there was not a single book in sight. The bare walls brought on a sense of loss as I had been there when Norman was alive and the place was dripping with them. I guess it’s a sign of the times. Less books, more rap, more sci-fi, English no más, manners no más, girls no más, time to fly away.

And, He’s not just talking bout NYC.

Old Perrin won’t jaunt to the Alps this Christmas. Somewhere less snowy perhaps. Then again, I’m not fleeing the Apple of Decay either.

Christmas, culture, snowflakes, society

John W. Whitehead observes how the SJW’s ramp up the war on Christians and Christmas:

To a nation of snowflakes, Christmas has become yet another trigger word.

The latest Christmas casualties in the campaign to create one large national safe space are none other than the beloved animated classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (denounced for promoting bullying and homophobia) which first aired on television on December 6, 1964, and the Oscar-winning tune “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (accused of being a date rape anthem) crooned by everyone from Dean Martin to Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel in the movie Elf.

Also on the endangered species Christmas list are such songs as “Deck the Halls” (it supposedly promotes “gay” apparel), “Santa Baby” (it has been denounced for “slut shaming”), and “White Christmas” (perceived as being racist).

One publishing company even re-issued their own redacted version of Clement Clarke Moore’s famous poem “Twas the night before Christmas” in order to be more health conscious: the company edited out Moore’s mention of Santa smoking a pipe (“The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, / And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.”)

Oh the horror.

I’ve got to do my part to advance the triggering. I’ll get to work on my revised Christmas tunes list (may just run straight YT vids) and my annual homage to Christmas tie season (actually been wearing ’em, sans the pics). Soon. Merry Christmas!

America, the Outraged

America, decline, outrage, society, WSJ

Or, is it America, the outrageous? Or, just the fallen?

Lance Morrow penned an interesting, short op-ed to the WSJ, yesterday, on the new national obsession and condition – hysteria:

Pretty soon absolutely everything becomes an outrage. Anything that isn’t an outrage is Jeb Bush. Complex interactions of outrage from both parties’ bases conjured up the presidency of Donald Trump, who is the mighty Wurlitzer of the art form.

Outrage seems strenuous enough, but in truth it is a lazy habit—spontaneous, fatuous and naive. Organizing a lynch mob is easier—with a surer, immediate and dramatic reward—than conducting a fair trial, which requires the brains and patience of an adult. (The inner terror of Trumpians is that Robert Mueller is a grown-up with brains and patience.) Outrage presents itself as an assertion of conscience, but in practice it mostly bypasses conscience and judgment, and goes straight to self-righteous rage, by way of self-pity.

Outrage may be justified, of course, and redress long overdue. Just as a dose of morphine may be appropriate to help a patient in extreme pain, so with outrage. But like morphine, outrage is widely abused—and addictive. It may wind up becoming frivolous or fraudulent, as in all those “triggers” and “microaggressions.”

Is outrage now an American entitlement, and a permanent state of mind? Black Americans are more entitled to outrage than most, their grievances embedded in history. Are Asian-Americans entitled to be outraged? Some are making that case in their lawsuit over Harvard’s admissions practices—an argument that, in turn, collides with the counterclaims of African-American outrage. Are gay people entitled to be outraged? Are women entitled to be outraged? Who isn’t entitled to be outraged? (White men?)

There is something sinister and corrupt—Maoist—in the habit of assigning people to categories. That was the besetting sin of the 20th century; it was the way of genocide. As people are again consigned to shallow, mutually exclusive categories in this century, it is as if we learned nothing.

A society that goes on in this way will exhaust itself. …

It this case, seemingly, has exhausted itself. Morrow notes that when everything is viewed as an outrageous happening, then the real tragedies – like the railroading of the honest Julian Assange – lose significance. Morrow ponders a cure. Not unsurprisingly, he doesn’t come up with one. Me neither, except, maybe, for two: something beyond unpleasant, like a civil war, or; the very long, slow passage of time.

Before seeking a cure, it might be helpful to identify a cause. America has changed because Americans have changed. By strict definition, they are, now, a small minority of the hominids shuffling about the land. The people, even most of the “good” people have forgotten, written off, or just never read Marcus Aurelius’s admonition against overreaction to stimuli, good or bad. The number of those capable of reading, let alone understanding, Meditations decreases daily.

We have become a nation of fat, stupid, multi-vice addicted, God-eschewing, perpetually adolescent, instant gratification-seeking, lazy, insolent, fractured, and mentally unstable slobs. The populace, as easily frightened as entertained – and loving both, no longer can, or cares to, sort the true from the false, nor the right from the wrong.

For those few who still can, it’s time to do … something. For those many who can’t, well, hey! it’s conference championship weekend! Hubba.

**Note, the first: Thank you for the November visits. With all the changes and the departure of the Farcebook rabble, all of last month’s traffic was close to that of a good week back, say, two years ago. Still, I’m happy, grateful. Better the patronage of the select few than the patronizing of the debased masses.

**Note, the second: Only four ex-Presidents remain in the world. Gone is George Herbert Walker Bush, No. 41. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was surviving a crash landing in the Pacific in 1944. Later, he did damage incalculable to the Old Republic. Read my lips, “Goodbye.”

**Note, the last: Let’s have us a rockin December.

I had a high-energy Sunday. Much was accomplished.

The first change, here, is minimal, though substantive:

As you might have noticed above, the Header modification is now: “Thoughts on Freedom and The West.” This, as opposed to:

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.33.29 PM

This has been the general theme, anyway, for a long time. Now it’s codified. Yes, I’m still concerned with Natural Law. The cigars will continue at random intervals as will the general rambling. Also,

I moved the TPC link up the sidebar and the FP link down:

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.39.28 PM

If I’m honest, TPC is, now, where my better commentary is found. FP is limping along – and likely will for a little longer, bar some reinvigoration. Natural changes.

And, just below those links, one finds the heralding of A NEW BOOK (SOON)!!

Screenshot 2018-11-25 at 3.19.48 PM

I have solicited a fitting forward from a fitting commentator. This should run about 150 pages or so. Hopefully, the e-version will be more readable than that of THLCB; the high-quality trade paperback will be awesome. Ready the credit cards…

The new, to-come entry has been entered on the updated Books Page. Peruse that, if you like.

Yesterday, I kicked off some semi-heavy posting with a social media update. My de-linking from Farcebook was multi-faceted (and great!): the great algorithm changes of 2017-2018 dealt me quiet the traffic blow. That coupled with the spying and privacy invasion and the fact that social media marketing is virtually useless led me to kill the FB account. Still, I’m missing a lot of clicks.

I appreciate that those who now visit are hardcore fans (and perverts Googling in for the #hotpants post – geeze, don’t think I haven’t noticed the pattern [still grateful for the visits]). And, by my admittedly weak standards, 2018 still counts as a “great” year along with 2015, 2016, and 2017. Something needs improvement though. Working on it.

The eventual syndication of my TPC column should help, as will increased book-related queries. I have an email list that I have never deployed. Honestly, it needs a cleanup and I need to learn how to use a list. Progress…

Other items, briefly:

More fiction coming;

Pen Names cometh;

A new alt email has been secured;

What to do with Youtube and videos in general;

I’m mindful about the old Patreon page (ignore it for now);

The ads are problematic, yes; the mobile app is horribly clogged; with a traffic increase I should be able to update $$$ and clean that up while keeping the site free;

etc.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by and reading through these changes – for the better in the near future.

Thanks,

Perrin

Anti-Social Media Update

social media

I woke up this morning and found a private communique from a friend. EF asked, “What’s up with your FB page?” Now, EF should know better; I answered anyhow. As far as I know from the DARPA Bot in Charge, my FB page has been permanently deleted. Good riddance. Not a day goes by when I miss the cat videos, dinner pics, rah-rah whatever’s, and the general low-IQ foolishness.

If you want to find me on the socials, search for me at Oneway; look for the possum.

Not a day goes by that I do not get at least one update email from Linkedin. I really shouldn’t leave the network hanging. In the near or distant future, I may address that neglected page.

As evidenced by this very post, I have a blog. You’re reading it. I have a weekly column at TPC, which is linked here periodically. FP continues in abbreviated form and should until at least the beginning of 2019 (then, it may be 4 calendar years and out – don’t know yet). There’s the slowing channel on YT. As always, a new book is coming.

I’m out there, here. Where are you?

PS: almost wish I’d watched that LSU-A&M spectacle. But, really, glad I did not.

Happy Turkey Day: Ranking the Generations

Happy Thanksgiving, America! Or Thanksgiving Week, whichever it happens to be. As we gather with assorted friends, relatives, and other annoying, stinking like three-day-old dead fish loved ones, let’s us analyze them by chronological category, politically, psychologically, and philosophically. For the Farcebookers and TeeVee watchers, now might be a good time to return to loftier observations. I hear Big Bird is rounding Columbus Circle to West 59th right about now…

[Big Bird Picture]…

Bobbing Towards Gomorrah. Picture from someone’s Pinterest.

Here follows a brief examination of the (mostly) living US generations, ranked and sorted by your hard-laboring, long-suffering National Affairs Meddler and Chief Prognosticator. I got ‘em all down, from best to worst. The determination dates are all mine, based upon popular assessments. As with nearly all of my work, this one is geared toward actual Americans, as would have been so-considered circa 1964. Civ-natties, equality freaks, Jordan Peterson cultists, and others of low intellect and poor breeding are hereby advised to retreat to the bloating comfort of all those leftovers.

Now, shall we?

Number One:

Generation X (1965 – 1979)

It’s not just that this is my generation, though that does provide some clarity. We had The Dukes of Hazzard, Pac-Mac, and The Empire Strikes Back. I rest my case. We, and the older generations, had some wacky ways. Our styles – bell bottoms, popped collars, wide ties, big hair, high-tops, and Madras shorts – were a little out there, a little silly upon retrospective review. But, at least they were styles. The new vogue of the nation involves rolling out of bed, throwing on a garbage bag, and sloughing off to nowhere while munching from a big bag of Cheetos.

Seriously, we are the last generation of what might be properly deemed “real” Americans. We are the last to grow up in and experience the fading glory of the remnants of the Old Republic. Early on, we were derided as jaded and disinterested slackers. But, really, how the hell else should we have been? We were the first generation to feel the full brunt of the hideous social and economic experiments of our predecessors. The first in post-Christian Amerika. The first with intentionally, deliberately failed schools. The first with money completely debased. The first under total governance. The last generation of traditional Americans in the new Amerikan Babel.

immigration, invasion, Thanksgiving

A very merry Thanksgiving to you all!

For fun discussion around the turkey table, consider inquiring as to the general sense of whether the ongoing invasion at the US southern border is that, or if it is “immigration.” See what people think, if at all.

If need be or if this “nation of immigrants” bullshit appears like so much spilled dressing and gravy, remind them about some of the earliest American experiences with ungrateful imports. Speak, if you know, about the Polish and German industrial specialists, foolishly brought over in 1607 (8?), and how they IMMEDIATELY turned on their English hosts, taking sides with and arms to the Indians of Virginia.

For extra fun, should any school children be present, ask them to name that settlement. Ask them with experimental colony preceded it in the 16th century.

Give thanks. You, lucky American, have a veritable time machine trip back to the 5th century. Make the most of it.

Then, prepare to go stimulate that economy. The circulars herald big screen junk on low credit terms.

Those of you running the Feaster Five, right now, … ouch! Hope that pie and hoodie was worth the frostbite.

UPDATE: It’s nice to see Google is thinking about the poor, hungry politicians this Thanksgiving:

Ben Shapiro, green space chickens, internet, Judeo Christ, Perrin really hates robots, robots, shoot your local robot, YT

Two things of mild amusement:

First, I watched one of my own YT videos the other day (kind of rare event). On the sidebar, where YT picks “related” material, there were a plethora of Ben Shapiro links. Not what I would call related but, hey, it’s a “free” site.

Perrin Lovett vs Judeo-Christian Activist????

Second, just after posting another fun anti-robot story (about a murdering robo doctor), I looked at Drudge. There, I found this:

Screenshot 2018-11-18 at 7.52.56 PM

This “force for good” company made the model (or a similar model) that ran over a toddler at an office park last year. Yeah, sure! I’ll buy stock in the outfit that will make the monsters which will surely kill me one day!!  No…

As you were.

“Controversial” fiction short held over from last week:

…

5 the Hive, Live, Breaking News, 9:52 AM:

Morning Anchor: ‘Breaking news in Anytown. Authorities in Anytown are responding to an emergency situation at George Washington Carver Middle School and Center for STEM Excellence in Standardized Testing. 5 the Hive learned, minutes ago, that the situation may involve a possible chemical attack. We do not, at this time, know if this is a terror attack or yet another school shooting. Our own P.B. Jay is on the scene. P.B., what do we know?’

Reporter Jay: ‘Pandemonium here at Carver Middle. I’m across Main looking at the campus. You can see … over my shoulder … we have fire trucks, ambulances, dozens of police. A S.W.A.T. team is preparing to make entry.’

Anchor: ‘Have you heard of any students or others harmed or … otherwise?’

Jay: ‘I’m seeing … we have hundreds of students and teachers exiting the building. You can see them with their hands raised for safety. The authorities are not taking any chances. And … I have here Assistant School Superintendent Aller Gee. Mrs. Gee, do we know exactly what has happened or if there are any casualties?’

Mrs. Aller Gee: ‘All of our children and their safety is our only concern. I have a rumor, a report, there are several sixth graders down … [voice cracks] … our babies are… [sobbing] More may be trapped in a bathroom or science lab. I’m trying to think of the children.’

Jay: ‘Thank you. [hugs Gee] Thank you. We’re all crying, here. And, everyone, the police are directing us to back up towards the Waffle House. Two more helicopters just landing now.’

Anchor: ‘We now know there may be six children, possibly more, succumbing to injuries at Carver Middle. A terrible tragedy. We will constantly cover this story and update you regularly. Now, 5 the Hive’s Jimmy Carter has more on the cows still loose on I-19…’
