We’re having so much civilized fun in Augusta right now I had almost forgotten about the outside world. I also forgot that only 18 months ago I had not heard of Jordan Spieth. Spieth it seems forgot all about the winds that have held all but four (4!) men under par this week. Masters magic, majestic and memorable.

Anyway, this morning as I glanced around the internets, two stories caught my eye.  That’s how my mind works – I like piecing together seemingly unrelated items of information. Many organizational thanks to Matt Drudge.

Things must be a bit slow in Boston this weekend. The Globe, having run out of real news, decided to run a lampoon front page featuring the horrors of Trumpzilla:

Curfews extended in multiple cities

Boston Globe, April 10, 2016.

The main fake story concerns Trump’s pet issue of illegal immigration. It’s a pet because Americans are growing sick of the related problems; they’re tired out from five decades of betrayal from Washington by everyone from Ted Kennedy to Ronald Reagan to Marco Foamio. A byline says “riots continue”. There would be riots. There will be riots. There are riots now. We grow tired of riotous behavior and other criminality.

Perhaps that thought subconsciously attracted me to another headline story: the volunteer militia is growing. An IndyStar reporter sites a “study” by the Southern Poverty Communism Center (talk about a lampoon) which shows (without mentioning numbers) volunteer militia ranks have grown by 37% in the past two years. The Star maintains neutrality; the Southern Commie Loons are mortified; I am relieved.

I also have numbers – estimates from the Census. Based on my reading of the following graph, I estimate the strength of the militia, unorganized, at around 30 – 40 million men. That makes it the largest armed force in the world.

nimbus-image-1460293982216

Census.gov.

I draw my estimate from that left side (male) segment from just below age 20 to just above age 40. That provides the elementary math strength of the combined State militias. Georgia law holds: “the unorganized militia shall consist of all able-bodied male residents of the state between the ages of 17 and 45 who are not serving in any force of the organized militia…” O.C.G.A. 38-2-3(d)(2006). All states have similar laws with slight age variances.

This estimate excludes men serving in the Imperial military and those few thousands actually serving in the organized state militias. Think of it as the reserve militia force. Perhaps you are a member. I am. Thank you for your service.

We many men are the militia contemplated in the Constitution. The same militia which stood guard over the old Republic until the 20th Century (with the terrible exception of 1861-1865). The “well regulated militia” of Second Amendment lore.

In truth, the militia is almost completely unregulated – so as to be defined as “unorganized”. That is a legal problem brought about by a century of socialism. Demographically and obesity-wise, the group is terribly unfit. That would be a product of processed foods and television. Still, we are exceedingly well armed – a failure of the Commies to institute that final plank of the Manifesto. That single failure will be lethally critical. When the riots begin in full we will be ready. Hell, some of us are looking forward to it.

In the meanwhile the sun in up on a near perfect day in Augusta. The winds should be dying down a bit. Good luck to Spieth and company. We’ve got one more terrific day of suspended reality!

Batman, exercise, health, inversion table

The internet has been abuzz lately with Ben Affleck’s transformation into the Dark Knight. There was similar commotion over Christian Bale, with various health sites promoting “Batman” weight training and diets. Most of these were pretty good if a little rigorous. I have discovered a very simple way to train like the Caped Crusader – just by hanging out – literally.

Remember the scene when Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne (1989) was hanging upside down in his bedroom?

uGdAX1z

Like this. Warner Bros.

I suppose they may have added the scene for realism; bats hang and sleep inverted after all. It’s also no stretch to think Batman would do this as part of his training regimen. It’s part of mine, generally one of the final parts.

Keaton was on a frame which requires effort to climb on and lock in before suspending the body upside down. There is a much easier device that does the same thing: the inversion table.

inversin table

One just lies back on it, secures the ankle restraint, and a motor rotates the table over 180 degrees. All you do is hang there and maybe do a little stretching. Why would Batman or anyone else bother? Here’s why:

Joint relief. The Earth is a big thing, a hefty Six Septillion kg. After years of walking around with all that mass exerting gravity on the body everyone develops some kind of joint compression and related pain – back, knees, etc. Inverting instantly reverses gravity. This allows the joints to open up. That takes pressure off the nerves which cause pain.

Muscle problems. Inverting stretches out tired and tense muscles, tendons and ligaments. This promotes healing and alleviates some pain and tension.

Circulatory system. Gravity causes blood to pool in the feet and legs. That causes problems – bad veins, swelling, etc. Inverting reverses that too. Blood rushes to the head and upper body. A frequent first time complaint is about the head rush. One quickly gets used to it or, if not, one can get most benefits by just breaking parallel with going completely upside down.

Sinus relief. All that blood in the head increases pressure on the sinuses. Temporarily this may make nose breathing more difficult. However, as soon as the body is righted again all the overpressure rushes out. With it also often goes existing pressure in the sinuses. All of a sudden the nose opens up and breathing is easier than ever.

All of these listed benefits cause more benefits: more energy, faster recovery, increased immune function, better digestive health, lower blood pressure, on and on. Super benefits for any superhero. Try it as soon as you can.

Augusta, cigars, Hooters, Masters Tournament, Shinebox

Another terrific Masters week is in full swing. The 80th Tournament commences tomorrow. Today saw an epic Par Three Contest featuring nine hole in one shots – a record. Also a record was the hole in one by Gary Player at age 80! Jimmy Walker won with the lowest score in event history.

The Par 3 Contest is a great way to kick off the Masters. (USATSI)

Last night Shinebox was rocking at Hooters. They’ll be back Friday night.

America, economy, freedom, government, money, Panama Papers, The People, War

There is a war raging against cash (paper) money, a battle really in the larger war on freedom. Money in banks and computers can be tracked and controlled and confiscated with ease. That’s good for our betters. Paper money can be hoarded and used freely by its owners. That’s bad.

Most large U.S. banks, including Chase, Bank of America Corp., Citigroup Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. have been rolling out new ATMs, sometimes known as eATMs, which perform more services akin to tellers. That includes allowing customers to withdraw different dollar denominations than the usual $20, typically ranging from $1 to $100.

The efforts run counter to recent calls to phase out large bills such as the $100 bill or the €500 note ($569) to discourage corruption while putting up hurdles for tax evaders, terrorists, drug dealers and human traffickers.

The Wall Street Journal reported in February that the European Central Bank was considering eliminating its highest paper currency denomination, the €500 note. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers also has called for an agreement by monetary authorities to stop issuing notes worth more than $50 or $100.

  • ZeroHedge, Was There a Run On The Bank?

JP Morgan/Chase oddly had some super ATMs which allowed unlimited withdrawals denominated in $100 bills. Some folks started making large cash withdrawals – $20,000 at once in some cases. Sensing its customers were fighting back in the war Chase limited the withdrawals to $1,000 per day. They made it a little harder for you, the enemy combatant, to access your own money. They want your money under careful controls – but not theirs.

The Panama Papers are the largest information leak in history. 2.6 Terabytes worth of documentation was smuggled out of a Panama-based law firm which caters to some of the world’s richest and most powerful people.  The papers reveal that the super-rich routinely offshore their considerable assets in an effort to evade control and taxation, and to maintain secrecy. Vladimir Putin, for example has at least $2 Billion hidden away; while running for office he declared his net worth to be a few hundred thousands.

By itself there is nothing wrong with this offshoring just as there’s nothing wrong with getting $20,000 from an ATM. It’s your money; do with it as you like.

4bitnews.

The problem is the hypocrisy. At the same time these vampires seek to completely lock our assets down within the system they are moving their own money out of it. Perhaps this revelation will lead to the discovery of the stolen MF Global funds or the Madoff money. I would love to see Larry Summers’s name revealed, connected with secret accounts. Summers, Madoff, and John Corzine have acted against us in the war, treating us to POW-style financial torture. How should we counter-attack?

Most of this will be completely missed by the majority of Americans. There’s too much other stuff going on – the Final Four, the sham election, tattoos, etc. Our enemies plan on all of these distractions working. It’s time we withdraw from their system. While we’re at it we should offshore as many of these rats as we can find –  send them anywhere but here.

America, Canada, freedom, higher education, students

Recently I wrote (again) of the terrible decline of academics in academia. This is becoming a pet subject of mine because of my tenuous ties to higher education and, more importantly, because education is critical in the quest for personal freedom. There’s a reason why they didn’t want slaves knowing how to read.

Here are some links, one based on the other, providing more evidence of the decline. They are derived from studies and experiences in Canada. I suspect American students are even worse off.

No offense, USC sweeties. Google.

Charles Hugh Smith takes a look at the insane and unrewarded growth in the costs of higher education. U.S. student debt has ballooned by $1 Trillion in the past decade – with nothing to show for the expense. Students emerge from the schools burdened with debt, knowing nothing, unprepared for employment in jobs that don’t exist.

Smith cites to an article by Ron Srigley, a professor at Prince Edward Island University in Canada. Srigley gives an insiders account of what education should be, what it used to be and what it has become. He explains the lack of reading, comprehension, and motivation on the part of students, grade inflation, the lack of substantive curriculum, administrative tyranny, and gradual loss of scholarly faculty.

Great works—of science, art, literature, philosophy, and history—are the giants on whose shoulders we stand in our efforts to become giants ourselves. The fact that such works may now plausibly be replaced by narcissistic and transparently self-promoting twaddle, or indeed by nothing at all, is a sign of the nihilism of the modern academy. This is the classroom in which our sons or daughters (or you) very likely sit each day…

  • Srigley.

Great works inspire great work and through great effort produce great minds. Today pandering and mediocre works produce nothing aside from years of debt repayment.

Smith wrote a book, The Nearly Free University, which outlines a better, modern alternative to the expensive, dreary and pointless university system. With technology and determination a student today can still receive a real liberal education, minus the costs and nonsense which accompany the “traditional” school experience. Please share this information with anyone you know in higher education, especially if he happens to be a university bound student. In addition to the mind, money and time are terrible things to waste too.

Leo Ryan: Portrait of an Honest Statesman

Politicians and decency usually go together like outer space and gravity. Usually there is a near absolute absence of one in the other. Sometimes though a tiny sliver of anomaly leaks through. Planets, stars and other objects provide positive attraction in the otherwise empty void of the heavens. Likewise, sometimes a real man strides into the rodent’s nest of Washington or some other political place.

Leo Ryan was such a man. He was a man of conviction who was actually willing to give his life for those he represented. This, in short form, is the story of his greatest contribution to civilization and freedom.

Ryan represented the 11th Congressional district of California from 1973 until 1978. He was a Democrat. Today Ryan would not be welcome in either political party – he actually cared about people and took direct action to help them.

In the 1950s he worked as a high school English teacher.  A school field trip to Washington D.C. in 1961 inspired him to seek elected office.  He was subsequently elected Mayor of South San Francisco and later to the California legislature.

While serving on the California Assembly Ryan demonstrated he was not above getting his hands dirty researching social and political matters. Following race riots in the 1960s he posed as a substitute teacher in Watts. This experience allowed him to see things on the ground as opposed to from the ivory tower in Sacramento.

In 1970 he took his investigative tactics to a new level. While chairman of the committee on prison reform Ryan had himself arrested and booked into the system. He spent time at the notorious Folsom Prison in order to observe inmate conditions.

Once in Congress Ryan continued to champion the weak and the forgotten. He battled powerful forces in defense of unpopular causes.  His most daring feat might have been his criticism of the CIA. It turned out otherwise in the fall of 1978.

In the midst of his successful 1978 re-election campaign Ryan began to hear horror stories about Jim Jones and his cult in Guyana.  Jones read and listened to reports from relatives of members of the Peoples Temple. He wrote to the government of Guyana urging intervention. He also tried to persuade President Carter to pressure Guyana to investigate reports of cruel (sometimes murderous) happenings at Jonestown.

Unsatisfied with the lack of official enthusiasm Ryan decided to once again take personal action.  Defying the State Department, the President, his own party, and conventional wisdom Ryan flew to Guyana to investigate for himself.  In the end he received approval for his mission and went as an official ambassador of Congress and one of his appointed committees. He invited other members to accompany him but all were either unwilling or unavailable to go along. Several of his staff, members of the press, and a few concerned relatives did join him. Ryan was firm in his commitments – he declared that if Temple members were being held against their wills, he would free them.

In Georgetown, Guyana’s capital, Ryan negotiated for several days with Jones and with the government. On November 17, 1978 Ryan, his entourage and a representative of the Guyanese government arrived at Jonestown. The next day Ryan interviewed Temple members, many of who desired to leave.  Surviving an assassination attempt, Ryan was forced to leave the compound.  While he and his group were gathered at the local airfield awaiting transport back to Georgetown various Temple members opened fire.  Ryan was shoot repeatedly and died. The next day the Guyanese army arrived to find 909 members dead, victims of the Jonestown Massacre.  Ryan was buried in California.

Leo Ryan is the only sitting member of Congress ever assassinated in the line of duty. His actions earned him the Congressional Gold Medal.  Leo J. Ryan Park in Foster City, California is named in his honor.

Ryan, a man for the people.

Dallas Times Herald, Nov. 19, 1978.

I have profiled honest politicians before – Ron Paul and Bobby Franklin come to mind. There are too few examples in American politics but I like to give credit where due. Decency and courage are not limited to party affiliation. A brief, concluding example of lesser dramatic import:

A friend of mine owns a cigar shop. Every year he sets up a tent near the main patron’s gate of a PGA major tournament. He’s very political and all politicians know he’s there. Last year three separate pols came by the tent in succession. They help illustrate my point here.

The first is a member of the State legislature. He knows my friend. He’s the common, ordinary politician. He walked up to my buddy and made small talk. When offered a cigar for the links he, a cigar smoker, refused. He said he’d love one but he has an image and all. Typical.

The next pol was our current sitting Congress Critter – a contemptible roden of the lowest order, ready to stab the backs of his constituents at the drop of a hat, or a bribe. This weasel crossed the street and slunk by while looking away. He also knows my friend. He’s lied to him (and to me). We’ll call him the American Invertebrate Weasel, all too common.

Both of these men are Republicans. Rush Limbaugh and my conservative friends tell me Republicans are good and Democrats are bad. The third Cigar tent-passing pol makes a mockery of this idea.

Number three, let’s call him Honest John, made a beeline for the tent. Upon his arrival he said, “Gimme a cigar!” This Democrat is our immediate former Congressman. He’s known to play games but he also has charisma and fortitude. He also did a pretty good job of standing up for the people he represented. Mostly ignorant his people voted him out based on party affiliation alone. They got what they paid for. Honest John, not giving a damn, lit up and puffed off to enjoy the rounds.

Honest John made a small difference on that his illustrative defining day. Leo Ryan made a huge difference on his. Big or small, some men make a difference when in office and leave a positive mark when they’re gone. They at least deserve remembrance.I may occasionally add articles of other statesmen, American and otherwise, who lived and died for their people.

Trump and Circumstances

America, Bob Woodward, decline, Donald Trump, economy, education, election, freedom, government, ISIS, Masters Tournament, Michael Snyder

The Donald sat down for an in depth interview with Bob Woodward. I have a great deal of respect for these two men. Trump is Trump and, increasingly, the only mainstream, one party system candidate who makes any sense. He almost makes the idea of voting plausible. Woodward is a legend in his own time. He turned aside from a possible CIA career because the application process was too long. He certainly has the knack for sleuthing.

Here’s what the two hashed out on Trump’s plans:

The headliner is Trump fears a massive recession is about to hit and hard. I think it has begun. We’re overdue and the circumstances are right. In fact, this could be something we haven’t seen since the 1930s. Taking into account world conditions and where we are in Plato’s cycle it could be more of a 490s situation.

Trump says he will cut taxes immediately (never a bad idea) and eliminate the entire (on books) federal debt within two terms.

He wants to renegotiate treaties and trade deals to end America’s dual roll of World policeman and whipping boy. We can’t afford either anymore.

He wants high level staff to refrain from writing memiors while his administration is ongoing. By the way, I smell another Woodward bestseller.

He talked about potential judiciary appointments. He says he’s listening to the Federalist Society on that front. There are many decent FS people. I would know as a past two term chapter president myself. But, in that role, I witnessed the inner operations of the Society and Washington. I concluded this network is beyond repair – terminally evil.

After discussing family and useless political nonsense Trump returned to the massive financial bubble, under the economy like a supervolcano. Trump says he can fix the problem through shrewd negotiation and restructuring. The man is an expert there.

On the international front Trump oddly taks about disengagement (good) while simultaneously decrying the depleted American military (a tired, tired Republican topic). He thinks he will work well with Putin, China and other foreign powers. I can see that.

Trump’s potential problems are three: Congress (all that renegotiation and cutting must pass through them); the Federal Reserve (they exist to promote a new dark age) and; the American people (see below). Washington runs on debt, death and destruction. It will suffer no man, not even Trump, interfering with the party. I think at best Trump will delay or mitigate the consequences a bit while giving part of the country reason to chant and cheer. In plain terms he may be able to make the ending somewhat enjoyable.

The end of the America we knew has come. This is not the country I grew up in (I’m not THAT old either). One sees the signs everywhere, everyday. For example, I am a huge Masters fan. This year’s tournament looks to be awesome. As with anything I see the good and the bad. Yesterday, Saturday, I saw a custom BMW I8, a Ferrari, and a Lamborghini all on Washington Road. That’s a good sign. It means there is prosperity and high socity still left. However, this morning while sipping coffee and researching this article, I saw a squadron of Apache gunships patrolling over west Augusta.

The helicopters are not in training. Like the sports cars they are here for a reason, an unpleasant reason. The military has been guarding (silently) the tournament for a few years now. I’m glad they’re here but it’s a shame they have to be. It’s a telltale sign of how bad things are.

If you join us this week you will notice a thousand or so police officers. For the most part they direct traffic, keep things moving and guard celebrities. The military is here in case ISIS shows up.

How the hell did we come to this? There is a web of dozens of reasons. I’ll cut straight to the primary one – us. The people, maybe a majority of them, have descended into a pitiful state of savagery, obesity, sloth and stupidity. It’s 496 not 1929. Those four traits run together but the (willful) stupidity is the driving force.

20121125-american-idiot

Google.

Last week Michael Snyder took a no holds barred look at how incredibly dumbed down our nation is.

He reports: “After two years in college, 45% of students showed no significant gains in learning; after four years, 36% showed little change.” Those are college students, the supposedly educated.

Americans spend on average ten hours per day starring at some sort of screen – at least half of that is television. Some people literally spend all their waking hours with their minds abdicated to programed garbage. These people are alive but they do not live.

“It is not because of a lack of input that we have become so stupid as a society. The big problem is what we are putting into our minds.

If we continue to put garbage in, we are going to continue to get garbage out, and that is the cold, hard reality of the matter.”

Sad but true. If we really want America to be great again, we must ourselves become great again. That starts with living life in the real world. It can be difficult but it why we are here. We must rise to the challenge before time runs out. Tick, tick, tick.

Vote if you care – for Trump or anyone else. The circumstances are up to you.

America, economy, education, elections, lies, Masters Tournament, news

I hope you didn’t fall for too many corny jokes yesterday. I stayed in bed to avoid any confusion. Now, April 2nd, provides a great opportunity to examine several examples of the modern fooling of the masses.

Watch or click CNBC and you’d think America was in the throws of a bull market. Things are better than good, right? Numbers may be isolated and manipulated in order to create illusions. Taken in pari materia they forcast the return of stagflation. What’s next? Disco?

The Republicans and Democrats are moving heaven and earth to convince you your vote counts. It doesn’t. Elections are and always have been rigged. In the past the irregularities were ametuer, brutish. Remember, if you will, the spectacle of Bush v. Gore, which definitively showed American elections to be flim flam writ large. Today the manipulation is a science.

Before he went to prison Andrés Sepúlveda made a living Rigging South American elections. He’s an expert. He says there’s a 100% chance the U.S. presidential election is fixed. He’s just talking about information. Who knows what the Diebold ballot computers can do. Vote if you like.

As I mentioned a few days ago most Western media outlets are propaganda agents of the CIA and other government entities. The “news” is a tool to drive public opinion in favor of various state schemes. It also rewrites and obscures history. Remember the Liberty? Probably not.

Reality television has spawned reality reality, a strange world of scripted and idiotic conformity. Anyone out of sync with the blind herd is a threat to be eliminated. Nowhere is this clearer than at our universities. Once bastions of learning and markets for the exchange of ideas, the schools are now mere temples of indoctrination. Professors promoting or defending academic honesty are ridiculed and disciplined. Welcome to wonderland.

The good news is, starting tomorrow, for one week the forces of decent civilization congregate in one place – Augusta.

tickets

They appeared earlier this week. Augusta Chronicle.

Prepare yourselves for a short suspension of modern madness. Relax, catch your breath, have a pimento cheese sandwich.
