No Shutdown and No Wall

This was predictable: Trump caves on Shutdown/Wall.

The Senate swiftly and unanimously approved the deal, and the House was ready to follow suit and send the legislation to Trump for his signature.

Trump’s retreat came in the 35th day of the partial shutdown as intensifying delays at the nation’s airports and another missed payday for hundreds of thousands of federal workers brought new urgency to efforts to resolve the standoff.

The shutdown was ending as Democratic leaders had insisted it must — reopen the government first, then talk border security. “The president thought he could crack Democrats, and he didn’t, and I hope it’s a lesson for him,” said the Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said of her members: “Our unity is our power. And that is what maybe the president underestimated.”

It’s certainly a lesson.

Okay, now we wait two days for the strategery, if any. Actually, we’ve been waiting for two years now. Trump admits there’s an emergency and that he has the authority and power to deal with it … later. We wait.

The shutdown isn’t the problem – next to none care about it. It’s the invasion and the decline, Mr. President.

government, shutdown

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me … a shutdown in D.C.

A partial federal shutdown took hold early Saturday after Democrats refused to meet President Donald Trump’s demands for $5 billion to start erecting his cherished Mexican border wall, a chaotic postscript for Republicans in the waning days of their two-year reign controlling government.

Vice President Mike Pence, Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney left the Capitol late Friday after hours of bargaining with congressional leaders produced no apparent compromise. “We don’t have a deal. We’re still talking,” Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told reporters.

Late Friday, Mulvaney sent agency heads a memorandum telling them to “execute plans for an orderly shutdown.” He wrote that administration officials were “hopeful that this lapse in appropriations will be of short duration” — an expectation that was widely shared.

With negotiations expected to continue, the House and Senate both scheduled rare Saturday sessions. House members were told they’d get 24 hours’ notice before a vote.

The gridlock blocks money for nine of 15 Cabinet-level departments and dozens of agencies, including the departments of Homeland Security, Transportation, Interior, Agriculture, State and Justice.

Now, close the rest and keep it closed in perpetuity.

***Note*** I’ve got a lot of drafts sitting around, some in existence and unpublished since 2013. It became obvious to me that I’m in no hurry to get around to them. But, they’ve survived various draft purges over the years. If they’re that important I can just come back and elaborate later. For now, I offer them, kind of as-is, in this, a lightning publishing round. The fun will continue while supplies last. Make of these what you will. Or not. I don’t care.

Aha! I found this, just a list of links to past news stories. The FDA communist assault continues, though some fight it. I’ve covered that. I even published a submitted CFR comment. Entertain yourselves, particularly if you’re in the industry, with the following (if operable – not checking):

Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich are gone.  We have no representation. This is, updating in Dec. 2018, about five years too late. And, it doesn’t really matter anyway. It’s a little late for libertarian takes, right or left, on liberty in America. What we lost. Good men, still around and working for the remnant, now privately. Bless them both.

Judge K Sides With Court Liberals, Abortion Mafia; Loser States Keep Losing

This ruling (nonruling, really) is though not necessarily an endorsement of the rehashed Nazi eugenics part of the mafia’s work. The case involved looted money being spent on other “healthcare.” Louisianna and Kansas objected in vain.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected appeals by Louisiana and Kansas seeking to end their public funding to women’s healthcare and abortion provider Planned Parenthood through the Medicaid program, with President Donald Trump’s appointee Brett Kavanaugh among the justices who rebuffed the states.

The justices left intact lower court rulings that prevented Louisiana and Kansas from stripping government healthcare funding from local Planned Parenthood affiliates. The case was one of a number of disputes working their way up to the Supreme Court over the legality of state-imposed restrictions involving abortion.

Three conservative justices – Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch – dissented from the decision by the nine-member conservative-majority court, saying it should have heard the appeals by the states.

At least four justices must vote to grant review for the court to hear an appeal. Along with the four liberal justices, Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts – the court’s two other conservative justices – opposed taking up the matter.

Yet another reason why, unlike the factory lawyers of Amerika, I pay no attention to the Supreme Court – or to governments generally. It’s pointless.

I don’t fault Kavanaugh or Cold Water Roberts, here. The blame rests on the two bitching States, as, over 100 years ago, both of them gleefully voted to give away their citizens’ money and their own Senatorial political power to Washington. Kind of serves them right.

MKUltra, the Evil That Keeps on Killing

Thank God for government, right? Without Washington, who would break all the laws passed in Washington?

A Wiki (sorry, Vox) quote about US “intelligence” prior to 1942:

“Prior to the formation of the OSS, the various departments of the executive branch, including the State, Treasury, Navy, and War Departments conducted American intelligence activities on an ad hoc basis, with no overall direction, coordination, or control. ”

Then, came the OSS and, right behind it, the CIA – with all the added illegality, such as project MKUltra. (Read all about that ongoing fiasco – no time to elaborate). If anything changed, the lack of direction, coordination, and control certainly did not.

The CIA should be disbanded and destroyed. It won’t be. But, we appear to be getting the next best thing. If an organization is compromised and run by completely incompetent people, then its harmful effects may be mitigated. So it is. Gina Haspel, the female head of that wayward agency has appointed another woman, Elizabeth Kimber, to run the dreaded Operations division, which controls Clandestine Services, Paramilitary Ops and all. That’s the outfit that killed those who killed Osama (the second bullet-induced death, not the previous renal incident).

If the Q crowd did anything, they showed us that the agency can be electronically blinded, if only temporarily. The new direction of control hormonally guarantees inefficiency and redirection of purpose. The moves should make for a meaner and much viscous culture, but one that’s incapable of actually accomplishing much. For that, we should be grateful.

It’s not a  yellow vest protest, nor a gas tax rebellion. It’s anti MACRON: more groups keep joining on more issues:

More than one hundred ambulance drivers protested in Paris Monday morning, as France’s President Emmanuel Macron faces mounting pressure from populous movements inspired by the Yellow Jackets.

Paramedics blocked the Place de la Concorde near the National Assembly in downtown Paris at 5:30 am local time, blaring their sirens and holding banners condemning government-mandated industry reforms, reports France Info.

Protesters set tires on fire in the street while others chanted “Macron resign!” according to the Associated Press. One protester held a placard reading “the State killed me.”

They’re not dead yet; on their feet and fighting. Read between the lines. All these real French are sick of enduring corruption while paying for the new “French,” those allegedly brought in to, themselves, save a demography and economy at risk. It doesn’t add up (any of it) and the people are mad as hell. Americans, please consider these areas as you will face them soon.

And, speaking of the newcomers: ISIS pipes up again – all about more DIEversity – just in time for the holidays!

A Most Dangerous DOJ Conspiracy Theory

People hate a conspiracy theory, unless a federal prosecutor proposes it, even if unfounded in law or fact. So it may be with Julian Assange. The Hon. James Goodale on what that means for Julian, the press, and free thought in America:

James Goodale: When I wrote the book pointing out the dangers to the First Amendment if Assange was prosecuted, I made it my business to see if I could gin up support within the media/press community to stick up for his rights, since his rights would affect everyone else’s. I had occasion to speak to many groups in connection with the promotion of my book. Every time I mentioned the fact that establishment press should advocate for Assange’s rights, I heard hoots of laughter or people shouting at me that I didn’t understand the journalism profession.

I was dismayed that I got very few converts in the journalistic community that would take my position that it was necessary to support Assange — not for Assange himself, but for the First Amendment.

…

There’s speculation on what Assange could be charged with. There’s a possibility that he could be outright charged under the Espionage Act for the act of publishing classified information. Then there’s the “conspiracy” theory — that Assange was engaged in a conspiracy with his sources by asking them or soliciting more information from them that the sources may have gathered illegally. Do you find that type of charge would be just as dangerous as a charge for publishing information?

I do find that that charge would be just as dangerous. As a matter of fact, a charge against Assange for “conspiring” with a source is the most dangerous charge that I can think of with respect to the First Amendment in almost all my years representing media organizations.

The reason is that one who is gathering/writing/distributing the news, as the law stands now, is free and clear under the First Amendment. If the government is able to say a person who is exempt under the First Amendment then loses that exemption because that person has “conspired” with a source who is subject to the Espionage Act or other law, then the government has succeeded in applying the standard to all news-gathering.

That will mean that the press’ ability to get newsworthy classified information from government sources will be severely curtailed, because every story that is based on leaked info will theoretically be subject to legal action by the government. It will be up to the person with the information to prove that they got it without violating the Espionage Act. This would be, in my view, the worst thing to happen to the First Amendment — almost ever.

I’ve been on the soapbox for this for over 10 years trying to wake everyone up to the dangers that exist with this approach. Therefore, the stories we’ve read with respect to government’s present action against Assange, it’s blood-curdling. It appears the government may try to adopt this “conspiracy” theory to apply to news-gathering.

Washington has been trying to gain extended power over the press for 40 years, through brute force and judicial gymnastics. Times may be bad enough, the people dumb enough, now, for DC to succeed. Our loss.

Free Julian.

UPDATE: The war on freedom continues: The UN would make more free speech criminal, especially for those would correctly criticize the third-world-ification of the first world.

It’s pointless. If you vote, then know that no matter how you vote, nothing will change. It. Is. Over.

Here’s a Halloween story to have you screaming like Jamie Lee Curtis. We’ve reached the terminal tipping point. It’s one we’ve been waiting for a while now and finally, it’s here. More Americans now collect “benefits” than pay taxes. Over. Done.

I double checked the numbers and it’s true – 167 million taking, with over 121 million paying. The only question is how this affects voters. One can safely assume that now the majority of those who cast ballots will continue to do so to keep the gravy coming.

So ends the Grand Experiment.

Kind of the subject of today’s TPC bit:

Two things:

First, a while back I mentioned a journalist in Malta, murdered by corrupt elements in the government (one of them). She was back in the news following yet another politically-motivated hit job.

A popular Bulgarian journalist who had reported on an investigation into alleged corruption involving European Union funds was raped and beaten to death, authorities said.

The semi-nude body of 30-year-old Victoria Marinova was found in a park in the Danube town of Ruse on Saturday. She’d been beaten with such force that she was unrecognizable, according to the Federation of European Journalists.

Marinova is the fourth high-profile journalist to be killed in Europe since the beginning of 2017. Her death follows the alleged slaying of a Washington Post journalist in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Second, recently I mentioned Robert Redford and the end of an era, an American era. Now, Redford says he doesn’t recognize his own country. Our reasons, I suspect, differ, but we can agree on that. Actually, there’s probably little in common except for acknowledging the era passing.

And, so it did. Terrible shame out of the EU (and upon it).
