FBI, spying, television

TeeVee fans discover a potential downside to the modern couch potato-ing. From the FBI:

But new owners of internet-connected smart TVs might not be as good at spotting hackers as they are at spotting deals. The FBI’s Portland, Oregon, field office shared some tips this week for anyone who needs to secure a smart TV.

Some models of smart TVs include built-in cameras. They can be used for video chatting with friends and family, and some can let the TV recognize who is watching and suggest programming based on their past preferences.

But hackers may be able to access those TVs through the internet, allowing them to spy through the camera and microphone, or change channels, adjust the volume and play “inappropriate videos,” the FBI warned.

Hackers could even potentially use an unsecured TV as a backdoor to a router, potentially allowing them to access a computer or other device connected to the Wi-Fi, according to the FBI.

Now, where have you read similar warnings before? And, that’s the FBI. The CIA (who really know!) advise against the telly period.

The Conspiracy is usually a Fact, not a Theory.

No need to fret, [Redacted], whoever prepared the FBI document dump on the Finders also threw in a map produced from the execution of a search warrant on McMartin preschool in Manhattan Beach, CA.

If the name McMartin Preschool rings a bell, it’s because the school gained infamy as ground zero for the child abuse case that kicked off the so-called Satanic Panic.

360 children were alleged to have been abused at McMartin daycare. Many of the children claimed that they’d been subjected to sexual and satanic ritual abuse in a system of tunnels under the school. When investigators declared that excavations turned up nothing, the claim of secret tunnels became a byword for spurious ritual abuse claims.

Now, after a generation of ridicule, the FBI has confirmed the tunnels’ existence, vindicating the children’s testimony.

Committed, of course, by agents of the Empire. The FBI spied on you, via FISA.

Some of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s electronic surveillance activities violated the constitutional privacy rights of Americans swept up in a controversial foreign intelligence program, a secretive surveillance court has ruled.

The ruling deals a rare rebuke to U.S. spying activities that have generally withstood legal challenge or review.

When will those agents responsible be arrested? Probably around the time the deep state comes clean about this impeachment hoax nonsense.

When THEY’RE doing something wrong, you have something to worry about.

Curiouser and curiouser. One of those “sweetheart” deals, eh?

Jeffrey Epstein became an FBI INFORMANT to secure sweetheart deal and shut down federal probe into the pedophile’s abuse of underage girls, government records reveal

The FBI closed out their probe of Jeffrey Epstein in September 2008 after two years of interviewing victims and speaking to witnesses

The last report, on September 18, 2008, notes that Epstein ‘provided information to the FBI as agreed upon’, according to the case agent

It further states that ‘no prosecution will occur in this matter as long as Epstein continues to uphold his agreement with the State of Florida’

No agents visited Epstein in jail so it is unclear when he spoke to them, but his assistant Story Cowles visited almost every day and acted as his emissary

Allegedly, there are over a million pages of evidence in this new case. Maybe the IG needs to get involved. Maybe a special prosecutor. Maybe a VERY special prosecutor. Paging Attorney Millstone.

FBI, privacy, stupid Amerikans

The FBI loves all those pics the people post on Farcebook and the socials.

A government watchdog says the FBI has access to about 640 million photographs — including from driver’s licenses, passports and mugshots — that can be searched using facial recognition technology.

The figure reflects how the technology is becoming an increasingly powerful law enforcement tool, but is also stirring fears about the potential for authorities to intrude on the lives of Americans. It was reported by the Government Accountability Office at a congressional hearing in which both Democrats and Republicans raised questions about the use of the technology.

Who among the rabble is wise enough to have their fears stirred? And, what, exactly, have these concern troll Democrats and Republicans done? The shit stupid people deserve what’s coming.

The first, notable, nameable arrest along Amerika’s porous Southern border was of the leader of a group of patriots who do the job the government won’t.

The FBI on Saturday said it had arrested Larry Hopkins, the leader of an armed group that is stopping undocumented migrants after they cross the U.S.-Mexico border into New Mexico.

The arrest came two days after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) accused the group of illegally detaining migrants and New Mexico’s Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered an investigation.

Hopkins, 69, also known as Johnny Horton, was arrested in Sunland Park, New Mexico, on a federal complaint charging him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

“We’re not worried about it, he’s going to be cleared,” said Jim Benvie, a spokesman for the United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), blaming his arrest on political pressure from Lujan Grisham.

Even with a national emergency (heretofore with NO emergency action), we can’t halt the migratory flow but we can persecute our own. Hey, Donald! You’re doing it wrong. Ask Nancy and AOC. This guy’s okay. This is a man whom most Democrats wouldn’t mind voting. That is if he really is a convicted felon.

I hope he’s released within 20 days. He’s just an unaccompanied “minor” and “refugee” of the documented variety. No felon is illegal – unless enforcing the law is illegal.

This is one of the reasons why we have the Second Amendment.

Yeah. Yeah, spying on a political campaign just might be a big deal.

Attorney General William Barr said on Wednesday U.S. intelligence agencies engaged in spying directed at the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump and that he would look at whether the surveillance was undertaken legally.

“I think spying did occur,” Barr told a Senate hearing. “But the question is whether it was adequately predicated and I am not suggesting that it wasn’t adequately predicated. … I am not suggesting those rules were violated, but I think it is important to look at that. And I am not talking about the FBI necessarily, but intelligence agencies more broadly.

“I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal – it’s a big deal.”

If it wasn’t adequately predicated (and, on what did they have for the predicate, anyway?), then when do the treason trials/drone strikes start? Maybe about the same time as the wall?

Deep State Failure? Noor Salman Acquitted on All Charges

The odds of taking a federal felony to trial and being acquired are somewhere in the 1 in 3,000 range. Yet, this year we have at least two very high-profile loses for the Empire. Encouraging? Maybe.

Noor Salman, widow of Orlando ISIS killer Omar Mateen, was acquitted by a federal jury moments ago.

The widow of the gunman who killed 49 people at a gay Orlando nightclub was acquitted Friday on charges of lying to the FBI and helping her husband in the 2016 attack.

Noor Salman, 31, began sobbing with joy when she was found not guilty of charges of obstruction and providing material support to a terrorist organization, WKMG reported . Salman was married to Omar Mateen when he attacked the Pulse nightclub. Police killed him after the massacre.

Prosecutors said Salman and her husband scouted out potential targets together — including Disney World’s shopping and entertainment complex — and she knew he was buying ammunition for his AR-15 in preparation for a jihadi attack. She knew that he had a sick fascination with violent jihadi videos and an affinity for Islamic State group websites and gave him a “green light to commit terrorism,” prosecutors said.

Defense attorneys described Salman as an easily manipulated woman with a low IQ. They said Salman, who was born in California to Palestinian parents, was abused by her husband, who cheated on her with other women and concealed much of his life from her.

Attorney Charles Swift argued there was no way Salman knew that Mateen would attack the Pulse nightclub because even he didn’t know he would attack it until moments before the shooting. His intended target was the Disney Springs complex, prosecutors said.

Only about three percent of federal criminal cases make it to a trial. And, of those, only about three percent result in acquittals or dismissals. Amazing odds and not necessarily suggestive of “justice.”

Was there justice in this case? There’s really no telling these days beyond, here, a prima facia “yes.” My guess is that the jury may have been fed up with the way the government prosecutes criminal cases or this particular one at the least. It could have been a failure to make a case, to present any evidence. I’m certainly aware of none other than the allegedly coerced “confession.”

But it could as easily have been fatigue with a system that utilizes lies to convict for “lies.” A system run by a government with a history of lying, fabricating evidence, concealing evidence, battering witnesses, and indeed coercing statements. A system operated by a government usually as in bed or deeper in bed with associated criminals as the accused. As a reminder: this case confirmed the long-standing rumors about Mateen’s father, international terrorism, and the FBI.

Maybe these 12 people perceived the Deep State in action and did what they could, what they thought right. It would be interesting to poll or interview some of them.

Acquittal aside, this story may still be developing. If so, then more here.

Another Charge From Mueller

This one might be actionable or subject to extradition.

An attorney who worked for a prominent law firm was charged with making false statements to federal authorities as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

Alex Van Der Zwaan was charged Feb. 16 with lying to the FBI and Mueller’s office about conversations related to his work on a report prepared by his law firm on the legitimacy of the criminal prosecution of a former Ukrainian prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.

Prosecutors charged Van Der Zwaan by criminal information, which typically precedes a guilty plea. He is scheduled to appear Tuesday afternoon in federal court in Washington. He didn’t immediately respond to calls and emails seeking comment.

Van Der Zwaan was an associate in the London office of Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom. “The firm terminated its employment of Alex Van Der Zwaan in 2017 and has been cooperating with authorities in connection with this matter,” the firm said in a statement.

Last year, Van Der Zwaan married the daughter of Russian oligarch German Khan, according to the London Tatler. Khan is a shareholder of Alfa Group, a Russian banking and investment concern, and a board member at LetterOne Holdings, the investment vehicle set up by the founders of Alfa Group.

The unsealing of Van Der Zwaan’s case came four days after Mueller accused 13 Russians of a sophisticated disinformation campaign using a troll army that targeted the 2016 campaign and sought to sow discord in the U.S.

I still don’t see anything resembling collusion between Trump and the Ruskies. I do see a pattern of people getting charged with lying to the FBI. And this guy was an attorney at a mega firm, one of the most monied on Earth. It just goes to show the old adage: if you’re not talking, you’re not lying. The FBI is the police.

Do not talk to the police. Really.

There really is no good reason. If they suspect you or your associates of a crime – any crime – they can generally find something to charge you with. Don’t help them. Don’t make it easy.

On the other hand, if you know of someone who is venturing into the world of “professional school shooting,” and you tell the FBI, they do nothing. Nothing, except for a little CYA after the shooting career starts. Again, no point in the communication.

This is our “premier” law enforcement agency…

Reality Winner on Not Talking to the Police

Constitution, crime, don't talk, FBI, police, Reality Winner (Real Name), right to remain silent, spying, stupid

Just don’t do it. Don’t ever answer their questions or give them statements. Just don’t talk. Reality Winner, alleged NSA leaker, could tell you about it.

In the interview [with the FBI], Winner at first denied several times that she leaked any secret documents. She said she had been trying to get an assignment working with U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

First she acknowledged printing a report that “looked like a piece of history.” She told the agents “I thought it would be cool if I had it on my desk for a couple of days.” But she insisted she dropped the report in a bin used for papers that were to be destroyed.

“I mean, I’m trying to deploy,” Winner said. “I’m not trying to be a whistleblower. That’s crazy.”

She changed her story after an agent asked bluntly how she got the document out of the office.

“Folded in half in my pantyhose,” Winner replied.

Winner at one point asked the agents, “This sounds really bad. Am I going to jail tonight?”

One of the agents replied, “I don’t know the answer to that yet.”

An interview (i.e. talking). One story. Another story. On and on. Yes, dear, it sounds bad – because it sounds. Because you’re talking. Period. Half the time they have no evidence other that what you volunteer. Give them anything and, as they WARN YOU, it “can and WILL be used against you in court.” Yes, you’re in jail, now. Judge Epps will probably keep you there after today’s hearing.

Actually, I’m not so sure Winner could put all this together even at this time. She has a history of talking. A lot. Little of it makes sense:

“Yeah, I screwed up royally.”

Saying anything is a bad idea. That one was really bad.

“Look, I only say I hate America like 3 times a day. I’m no radical. It’s mostly just about Americans obsession with air conditioning.”

Like, OMG, radicals at least attempt a little coherency.

“I mean yeah I do [America’s] literally the worst thing to happen on the planet. We invented capitalism the downfall of the environment.”

Give an SJW a little rope… Yeah, maybe that’s not fair, here. How about SJI = Social Justice Idiot?

“I’ve filed formal complaints about [the NSA] having Fox News on, you know? Uh, just at least, for God’s sake, put Al Jazeera on, or a slideshow with people’s pets.”

She needs to be re-educated for bringing God into this. People’s pets???

I’m starting to see a mental deficiency defense if nothing else. Something lacking in the amygdala or something…

For the rest of you: just don’t talk.

In causally related news, the other day was the 230 anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. I missed it along with all the “fun”. Shame they didn’t miss it back in 1787. Proof some lies live forever a long time.
