Facebook? – clearing the drafts

drafts, Facebook

***Note*** I’ve got a lot of drafts sitting around, some in existence and unpublished since 2013. It became obvious to me that I’m in no hurry to get around to them. But, they’ve survived various draft purges over the years. If they’re that important I can just come back and elaborate later. For now, I offer them, kind of as-is, in this, a lightning publishing round. The fun will continue while supplies last. Make of these what you will. Or not. I don’t care.

Okay, I wrote the “questionable” title over two years ago – and nothing else. You all know my thoughts on social media in general and FB in especial. Just another chance to say, “Fvck Facebook.” Done.

Facebook’s ‘Token’ Fools

Facebook, fools, spying

If you’re still on Zuckerberg’s spy site, then you only have yourself to blame. You can’t say people didn’t warn you.

And the news gets worse every day. More on the 50 – 90 million account breaches the other week:

Remember the Facebook hack last week that compromised at least 50m accounts? It’s worse than you think.

Last Friday, the social media company revealed a vulnerability that allowed attackers to steal automated log-in credentials (or “tokens”).

The tokens make it easier for people to log into popular apps and services like Spotify, Pinterest or Yelp. The flaw, which has been present since July 2017, was discovered last month after Facebook engineers noticed unusual login activity.

While the scope of that attack is still being discovered, independent researchers say the damage could extend far beyond Facebook’s borders.

Jason Polakis, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Illinois at Chicago, recently co-authored a paper on vulnerabilities in Single Sign-On (SSO) systems, similar to the one used by Facebook.

Polakis says the token breach affects far more than Facebook – it’s a potential backdoor to thousands of third-party apps and websites.

Odds are, you may have a lot of apps to clean up – after you delete the old FB account.

One more thing. Two more.

The Ministry of Truth reminds you that speaking is now silence. Down is still up.

Giving Christine Blasey Ford the opportunity to testify about her unsubstantiated accusations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is, somehow, silencing her, Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) declared Wednesday night.

Refusing to launch an FBI investigation into Ford’s claims is also “silencing her,” Sen. Gillibrand said in a tweet:

“Denying Dr. Ford an FBI investigation is silencing her. Forcing her into a sham hearing is silencing her. And pushing through Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation is silencing her.”

…. and Russia!

On the homefront:

After calling off the launch of a smart display device earlier this year, Facebook is reportedly planning to announce it next week. Here are the details from Cheddar‘s Alex Heath, who cites unnamed sources:

The main feature will be video chat, and Facebook will use facial recognition to tag users and follow them around the room. (Amazon’s Echo Show and Google-powered smart displays don’t identify users’ faces, though some security cameras do.)

The device will have a privacy shutter to disable the camera tracking, but amazingly, Facebook may have only thought to include this in response to its own recent privacy scandals.

While the device was once rumored to rely a homegrown voice assistant to handle basic commands, Portal may instead lean on Amazon’s Alexa for things like music, recipes, and news briefings.

Portal could come in small and large sizes for $300 and $400, respectively.

People will not only tolerate this invasion, not only welcome it but also pay for it. Crazy times. Facebook is like a vampire – never invite it into your home.

The Ugly Truth About Facebook, Tech, and The Relentless March to Power and Control

Making Orwell look weak by comparison.

Today I am more gladder than ever that I has Deleted the Facebook account… Those you still hanging out there – may God bless you. And protect you. The thing and associated matters get worse daily and they have been worse than we have known from the start.

Zuck and Co. monkeyed with the algorithm. Information was distorted and redirected. Sales, traffic, etc. went down. I and other writers I know took substantial hits. Many small businesses were affected and have accordingly jumped ship.

“One of the Facebook policy changes that kind of went under the radar and it went into effect in February was the branded content policy. And it decreased my income from Facebook by 60 percent, overnight. No explanation.” said Holly Homer, an entrepreneur from Texas who owns the Facebook pages for “Quirky Mama” and “Kids Activities.”

I’m grateful for the AI shunning as it made the decision to leave the collective so much easier. Thanks, Zucker!

But the loss of clicks isn’t the bad part. This is:

3b87a426488c5bf7ae5da034ddff612d1525e59856dc6239523380648a12c01a

“Q.” I have no doubts that this is true.

The companies are the government and the government is the companies. They, all of them – for whatever reasons, want total control. The Gubmits gonna get it too:

A pact of five nation states dedicated to a global “collect it all” surveillance mission has issued a memo calling on their governments to demand tech companies build backdoor access to their users’ encrypted data — or face measures to force companies to comply.

The international pact — the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, known as the so-called “Five Eyes” group of nations — quietly issued the memo last week demanding that providers “create customized solutions, tailored to their individual system architectures that are capable of meeting lawful access requirements.”

This kind of backdoor access would allow each government access to encrypted call and message data on their citizens. If the companies don’t voluntarily allow access, the nations threatened to push through new legislation that would compel their help.

It’s more like one, all-seeing eye, really. And these five criminal states … we have heard of them and their activities before. They’ve been in the all-access spy business for decades. We, some of us, have known about it for at least 20 years. (I know, in retrospect, feel somewhat foolish for every trusting these interwebs). (You’re safe here though – keep clicking!).

And there are more stories than these. Track. Control. Profit. Repeat. Surely the cat videos are worth it.

Maybe this explains away part of the perplexing drop in productivity these past few years.

The only possible output of this system is extortion as a way of life.

As the accompanying chart shows, productivity in the U.S. has been declining since the early 2000s. This trend mystifies economists, as the tremendous investments in software, robotics, networks and mobile computing would be expected to boost productivity, as these tools enable every individual who knows how to use them to produce more value.

Extortion with cat videos. And dinner pics.

Following the money (fiat), with all these distractions and controls it’s easy for many to miss history repeating itself.

Like, share, and type “Amen!”

Menlo Park, We (You) Have a Problem

So say a few brave and honest employees at Facebook: READ THEIR OPEN LETTER:

“We Have a Problem with Political Diversity”
THE PROBLEM
We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views. We claim to welcome all perspectives, but are quick to attack—often in mobs—anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology. We throw labels that end in *obe and *ist at each other, attacking each other’s character rather than their ideas.

We do this so consistently that employees are afraid to say anything when they disagree
with what’s around them politically. HR has told me that this is not a rare concern, and I’ve personally gotten over a hundred messages to that effect. Your colleagues are afraid because they know that they — not their ideas — will be attacked. They know that all the talk of “openness to different perspectives” does not apply to causes of “social justice,” immigration, “diversity”, and “equality.” On this issues, you can either keep quiet or sacrifice your reputation and career.

I imagine the SJW backlash has already begun. But the change, the admission is refreshing. It’s in line with the pressure President Trump is placing on the socials. Let it ring.

I, myself, found a way to be free of the exclusivity – still waiting out my “delete” period.

And I’m not alone. The very young, of all people, begin to shun the virtual madness in favor of actual reality.

Good news all around.

delete your Facebook account, deleted, Facebook, freedom, good riddance, idiots, social media, spying

I just pulled the trigger on Zuckerberg’s spy site and Lordy it feels good. If you’re still on history’s most invasive voluntary spying network, I hope you’re happy. And I hope you’re aware of how they track you. My advice would be to leave. Here’s how:

Over the past year or so I slowly drew down my presence, bit by bit, until all that remained was a sealed list of friends and admin abilities on two FP forums. I also used the “service” to like and promote TPC columns. No more.

Start with Logging In

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.35.07 PM

That the stock birthday listed on the startup page is after I graduated from high school says something.

Log In and Get Harrassed

This greeted me immediately as it has for the past few weeks. I’m toning it down and they want more info. and control. Eff You, Zuck!

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.35.50 PM

Really Bothersome:

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.37.35 PM

I saw this before I posted my final (to FB) PNW video.

A Final Consult with the “Secret” Info. File

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.57.30 PM

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.57.58 PM

You really must review the files. Despite all my recent cleanups, I still had to do a final sweep before,

Proceeding to Delete:

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.58.35 PM

Here We Go!

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.59.06 PM

Begone, Evil!

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 12.59.43 PM

And, Done.

Screenshot 2018-08-24 at 1.00.33 PM

Of course, of course, it will take 14 days – assuming they really delete it. I’ve heard they try to wrangle people back in. On Day 15 or 16 I will do a confirmation test.

I will surely miss all of my friends, real and digital, from FB. There’s no telling how long I’ll have to go without the following: cat videos; dinner pictures; friend requests from hookers, robots, creeps, and spies; raving mad political, social, and religious commentary; pointless low-IQ idiocy, and; the general angst that comes from being watched by a narcissistic evil genius who refers to his users as “dumb f**ks.”

Goodbye and good riddance!

blog, Facebook, get off Facebook, spying, Vox Day

This should be it.

Some of you have noticed that I have lately minimized my presence on FB. I’m still there, technically and for now, for FP work (posted as FP) and possibly some TPC promotions. This post should be the last post from this Highly Respected Web Log pushed (by me) to FB.

The algorithms won, I guess. That and the following render the platform of little use to me via this site.

Banning and shadow banning is bad enough. Hell, the general inanity is enough. Buying and selling banking information is unspeakable. And, when Gary Cohn compares FB to the Big Banks, circa 2008, you know something is seriously amiss.

Vox Day’s advice on the matter:

Delete your Facebook account NOW

Forget the thought policing. Forget the Infowars ban. Facebook is going to get a LOT worse very soon.

…

At this point, if you’re still on Facebook, you’re not merely putting your children’s privacy at risk and aiding and abetting your would-be destroyer, you’re downright stupid. I’ve never been banned from Facebook, I used it sparingly at best, and I got rid of my account anyhow. The ability to indirectly exchange pictures with your extended family or cyberstalk your high school boyfriend just isn’t worth it.

If you need to have group communications, get on Idka. If you want more conventional social media, try Oneway. Or go radio dark if that suits you. But regardless, at the very least, deactivate your Facebook account and encourage your friends and family to do the same. It’s not going to get better.

No, it’s not. Be warned, whether your a conservative, a libertarian, a lefty, a pot pusher, a foodie, or just a cat video-loving normie. You ain’t safe.

I will no longer respond to likes, comments, friend requests, etc. on FB (with the possible exception of my own “liking” of TPC promos – again, for now).

The good news is that you are here, right now. You can like and comment and communicate here and you can always add yourself to the automatic distribution service (see the sidebar on the PC version).

You can do the same thing at TPC and on Youtube: follow the links on the sidebar.

I see this issue, of the socials and of greater popular society, as our American Akallabeth. The man behind the throne is lying us towards destruction. We are the faithful. Man the ships.

Yanni or Morris? Who Sang it Better?

Yanni loves cats. Morris loves Yanni. Kim Kardashian. Dancing suspect. Royal wedding. Television. Alec Baldwin’s Trump. Cannes. Hairdo. Sports. Spike Lee. Starbucks. Idol. Riverdale. Jay-Z. Johnny Manziel. Billboard Music Awards. Taylor and Kelly. Prom. Solo. Beyonce. Not animals! Tide Pods. Guuurl! Hennessy. Miami. Gambling. Pruis. Hollingworth gap.

Sorry for the diversion; this was a FB algorithm test.*

In keeping with the pop culture theme, if the picture of Morris, below, isn’t enough, then here’s a link to something called TMZ.

But, since you’re here, food for thought for those on the right tail of the Bell Curve:

Deep State-Paid Professor Sought to Rig Election(s)?

A Cambridge professor with deep ties to American and British intelligence has been outed as an agent who snooped on the Trump presidential campaign for the FBI.

Multiple media outlets have named Stefan Halper, 73, as the secret informant who met with Trump campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos starting in the summer of 2016. The American-born academic previously served in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations.

Here is your collusion. Halper has a 38-year history of political espionage, having played the same game for the CIA in 1980. That case was against Carter and for the GOP. The 2016 work was against Trump and seemingly for the DNC. They call it the Uniparty for a reason. Vote “D” or “R” as you like but the machine wins every time.

Unless this time is different. The Trump Tweeted (always with a Tweet):

I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

I don’t know what good having the FBI investigate crimes possibly committed by the FBI will accomplish. A fox will certainly guard the fox house. Of course, it might be a good sorting step before moving into Lincoln-Clinton-Bush-Obama “legal” territory. This all assumes much: 1) that Trump is a swamp plumber; 2) that the government is redeemable; 3) that anyone cares.

If no one does, then here’s cool Morris:

Everyone loves a cat, right? Morris/9 Lives.

*If successful, testing may continue.

Zuck It Up: On the Meeting of a Social Mogul and the Contemptible Congress
-or-
Br’re Fox and Br’er Bear Outwit Br’er Rabbit

…

The great concern of the people is that Facebook violated their privacy and misappropriated their cherished personal information: email addresses, voting habits, cat pictures, etc. Zuckerberg admitted as much, roundaboutly. Hence, the popular clamor for regulation: if not from Big Social, then by Big Brother.

Now for my funny, impromptu thought. Remember Uncle Remus? Surely your parents read to you those beloved moral stories by Joel Chandler Harris. It seems to me that what I witnessed on the Tube was, literally, a meeting between a sly, elitist, globalist corporatist and a bunch of mid-witted, elitist, globalist statists. Allegorically, I saw an Uncle Remus tale unfold.

The American people played the part of Br’er Rabbit. Facebook and Zuck represented Br’er Fox. Uncle Sam was Br’er Bear. Play along here… The happy little rabbit, while busily posting meal pictures and juvenile memes, noticed the mean old fox was cheating him. Incensed, the rabbit angrily demanded action, either from the fox or from Br’er Bear. In other words the hapless bunny tattled on the small predator to the large predator. Seems risky to me.
