2019, budget, crazy, debt, Federal government

There’s just no need for elaboration. These numbers speak for themselves:

The federal government spent $2,573,708,000,000 in the first seven months of fiscal 2019 (October through April), setting an all-time record for real federal spending in the first seven months of a fiscal year, according to data published in the Monthly Treasury Statements.

Prior to this fiscal year, the most that the federal government had ever spent in the first seven months of a fiscal year was in fiscal 2011, when it spent $2,476,257,690,000 in constant April 2019 dollars (adjusted using the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator).

That’s a high price for an Empire that’ll be gone in a decade and a half. It’s like wasting everything on a luxury model for use as a beater that you can’t even afford to insure. Should have gone with the economy republican model. Or even a mid-sized Monarchy or something. Hey, it’s just (fake) money in (and at) the end.

Ladies and Gentlement, Tiger Woods.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods has done it again. After an 11-year drought, golf’s most polarizing and popular figure has added another major to his dossier, outlasting a star-studded leaderboard on Sunday by posting a final round 2-under 70 to win the 2019 Masters. It’s his first major win since the 2008 U.S. Open, 15th of his career and first at Augusta National since 2005.

It wouldn’t be the practice rounds without the weather.

Gates opened as scheduled this morning at Augusta National Golf Club for Tuesday’s practice round.

Steady rain has been falling all morning, and the forecast calls for continued rain with some shorter breaks before more rain moves in later this morning.

The forecast calls for the chance of strong storms this afternoon with heavy downpours, small hail and gusty winds.

Wednesday’s Par-3 Contest forecast looks good with sunny and warm temperatures expected.

The weather for the first round of the 83rd Masters on Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy and warm.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, 2019!

2019, Saint Patrick

Here’s to another St. Patrick’s Day, a celebratory tradition here at the old blog going back to our first March. Top o’ the mornin’ to ya! And, here’s to the coming of the First Day of Spring, 2019 – I’m more than ready this year – this Wednesday, the 20th.

saint-patrick

Saint Patrick was born a Roman citizen in ancient Britain.  At age 16 he was kidnapped and enslaved in Ireland.  He suffered his bondage for six years before escaping back to his home.  Later, as a priest and a bishop, he returned to Ireland as a missionary of the Church.  This in itself is a miracle I think.

BTW, the snakes are metaphorical. St. Paddy did not drive actual serpents out of Ireland. He forced out something much worse. Today, we could use his insight in Hollywood, in academia, and in the Vatican.

2019, state of the union, Trump

That’s all I got out of the 30 seconds I listened to Trump’s second State of the Union speech. Economic calamity approaching, civil war pending, and the largest invasion in human history … but … we went to the moon (which NASA admits we couldn’t right now) and we fought a two-front war (which the Pentagram admits we couldn’t do right now)…

TRANSCRIPT HERE (Warning: CNN version – facts/words may be altered)

I understand the speech went over well with many folks. Great rhetoric. Some bright points. Big with the Women of Congress. Much more entertaining than a simple “It’s over.”

Happy new year, one and all. Anno Domini Two Thousand, Nineteen is upon us!

John Maynard Keynes, as part of his general theory, held that when the economy was down, the government should close the gap via excessive spending, through debt if necessary. He also posited that when the bad times were over, the government should cut back and pay off the incurred debts. This was a theory, not Holy Writ.

For their sleazy part, the politicians heard the first step loud and clear. The second part, to Keynes’s dismay, they deemed irrelevant and unnecessary. Their game of reality became constant spending, ever-increasing debts, and deficits as cause celebre. A ministerial Icarus taunted the sun with predictable results.

We, the Living, pay the price for this stupidity. Most people drift along, concerned only with immediately proximate affairs, relying on someone of importance to tell them of things like recession. By the time the elites notice a downturn, or speak openly of one, it has usually been in progress for some time.
