Hell to Pay? What Now Passes for Canon Christiana?

Being the resident Catholic at the cigar shop I was bound to be asked about this allegation. I was asked by one of several Baptist preacher friends as it turned out.

Does Pope Francis Think There is No Hell?

In another interview with his longtime atheist friend, Eugenio Scalfari, Pope Francis claims that Hell does not exist and that condemned souls just “disappear.” This is a denial of the 2,000-year-old teaching of the Catholic Church about the reality of Hell and the eternal existence of the soul.

The interview between Scalfari and the Pope was published March 28, 2018 in La Repubblica. The relevant section on Hell was translated by the highly respected web log, Rorate Caeli.

…

First things first: this place, perrinlovett.me, is no longer a mere blog; it’s a highly respected web log. Get that straight. I may add that to the subtitle…

Second, wow, okay…

Please read on through the link for the Vatican’s response. They say, the Pope says, the report is false and the relevant quote was taken out of context. That may be. It is supposed that the translator/publisher has it out for His Eminence. That also may be. Much may be.

As important as this topic is, or seems, Ecclesiastically speaking, I honestly had not put much thought into it. I’m trying here; bear with me…

Assuming the worst, that the quote is correct and does adequately convey the Pope’s thought, then the matter still does not directly affect God The Father, Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit, nor the independent relationship of the faithful with The Trinity. It would, however, throw one helluva (pseudo-pun) into the expected, mandated guidance from the Church. The worst being true would amount to a betrayal of the past 2,000 years, and of Jesus. That, bad as it would be, could be cured. But, wow … lamentable is not even the word.

Back to not making assumptions terminal in nature: the remark, true or not, was a remark to a friend. It is not Canon nor does it invoke Papal Infallibility. The Vatican’s response seems to bear that part out.

I’ll just add that the choice of this particular friend, an atheist friend, is interesting. “There is no Hell” sounds like something an atheist would say and accept. It’s not Catholic. It’s not Christian. It’s not even of any “faith” at all.

The concern is that Francis is an Anti-Pope, one destroying, or trying to destroy, the Church. If that’s the case, there is a remedy for it. I really do rely of Christ’s assurance to Peter that Hell (must exist, huh?) shall not prevail. However, as I’ve noted before, that doesn’t mean the Devil won’t try. I’m not sure that we have at hand an Anti-Pope (let alone an Anti-Christ). I am sure this Pope from time to time strains the patience.

Just as his choice of confidants is a little telling so is his previously expressed philosophy. The latter would almost seem more like communism, globalism, post-modern worldy-ism, even, yes, atheism, than Christianity and adherence to Western Civilization. In one, brief juxtaposed example: the current Bishop of Rome chastises gun owners in America for crimes they did not commit while, simultaneously and seemingly, ignoring crimes committed all around the V.C. Do as I say, not necessarily as we do here at Saint Peter’s…

Again it tries the patience. I, being so tried, and tired from it, turn this over to Pat Buchanan, who luckily put more thought into it all that I have:

Did the soul of Judas, and those of the monstrous evildoers of history, “just fade away,” as Gen. Douglas MacArthur said of old soldiers? If there is no hell, is not the greatest deterrent to the worst of sins removed?

What did Christ die on the cross to save us from?

If Francis made such a statement, it would be rank heresy.

Had the pope been speaking ex cathedra, as the vicar of Christ on earth, he would be contradicting 2,000 years of Catholic doctrine, rooted in the teachings of Christ himself. He would be calling into question papal infallibility, as defined in 1870 by the Vatican Council of Pius IX.

Questions would arise as to whether Francis is a true pope.

…

So many questions. This one is definitely going to develop further. We have one damnable mess on our hands. (Done with puns now). I, as leader of this Highly Respected Web Log, actaully dispatched, this Friday, an agent to Rome – though I fear his investigation will probably center more on local eateries and smoke shops.

And thank you, Brother, for the prayers. We need them.

Hmmm. John Paul Stevens has turned to treason. Or is it merely senility? Either way I’m trying to find stuff in the paper archives. Maybe on the older PC…. I want to answer the old traitor’s Op-Ed in the Times – which, by the way, is neither protected as free speech nor press under the First Amendment. I’m sure you know why.

Anyway, whilst I hunt for whatever that was … here’s a brilliant bit from Taki Theodoracopulos on the apparent demise of a club that was probably always too good for me:

communists, fake Americans, football, freedom, get out!, gun control, Patriots, Samuel Adams, Second Amendment, Vox Day

Now comes a real conspiracy crisis from the Patriots organization. I now know what some of you went through with the off-pressure balls, except this incident is an affront to real rights. Vox Day explores the Peter King-Robert Kraft assault on the Second Amendment.

KING:

i. Gesture of the Week: Patriots owner Robert Kraft providing his team plane to fly students and families from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to Washington on Thursday, and then back home, after Saturday’s massive rally against gun violence.

j. No matter your politics, that’s a wonderful thing Kraft did. Because no matter what your politics, it is downright insane that semi-automatic killing machines, such as the kind that killed 17 people at the Florida high school, can be owned by average American citizens.

DAY:

I emailed Mr. King in response to his foray into gun control activism, and would encourage you to send him a similar message.

In response to your public support for violating American rights, I remind you of the words of Samuel Adams.

“We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Go to Mexico. Go to Canada. Go and live somewhere else, because you are not an American. There are literally dozens of other countries without the 2nd Amendment. Go live in one of them if you fear Americans exercising their unalienable rights, because you are not one of us.

“You are not one of us” and “you have to go back” are two of the most effective rhetorical killshots you can utilize against an SJW, because they weigh on the SJW’s constant subconscious fear of being rejected. It’s not a coincidence that these are considered to be some of Sam Adams’s most memorable words.

No, I will not email Mr. King nor Kraft. I don’t willingly waste time in discourse with communists and the mentally ill. But I do appreciate knowing what they really think of us and of our freedoms.

Know that when King writes, “average American citizens” he really means, “peasants and serfs.” Thanks, jackass. Now get out. Take Kraft, Hogg, and as many more commies as you can cram on those private jets and leave.

No matter your politics, if you are sane, and rational, and know how to read, and do rudimentary math, you realize that those “semi-automatic killing machines” save lives. And they’re safer, in terms of murder, than baseball bats, knives, and hands. If not, then no matter your politics (and we can guess about those), then consider doing as Vox and Adams suggested: just go away.

Go try one of of those other 100+ countries where they have far fewer guns than we have here. Yes, they all have much worse gun murder rates. But that’s a project you can tackle, work you can do – somewhere else.

Friends, these people hate freedom, America, the Second Amendment, “average” citizens, you and me. Their kraft would have us bow to a king. It’s contra to our interest to support these types of haters. Brady received a four-game suspension for the balls. Maybe a suspension for the duration of Kraft’s ownership is in order. This would be a huge and hard leap for an Patriots fan. But something to think about.

PS: Maybe Kraft should change the name. How about the New England Treason? Traitors? Kapos?

dictators, evil, Mugabe, Mugabe go to Hell, Rhodeisa, Robert Mugabe, tyranny

I mentioned this one and then left it simmer. Maybe a little dated now but here it is: I needed something to robo-post… funny, I think:

Robert Mugabe, the Warlord in Chief of Zimbabwe Post-Rhodesia, had an American woman jailed for telling the truth about him. I haven’t done a quick fire in a while so I thought I dedicate this one to the old thug. Well, most of it. But, first:

Donald Trump does Japan. Word has it thousands of terrified locals ran about screaming, “Orangezilla! Orangezilla!” Could have been a coincidence…

The ATF and FBI, on-scene at the Texas church today, issued a joint statement about the crime: “Koresh set the fires! We’re here to save the children or what’s left of them. Reno said the tanks were legal… Oh… it’s… it’s 2017. Wheeeeeew. Not terrorism.”

To my statist liberal and cuckservative friends: The FBI alleged MLK was a complete degenerate. Is it time to admit maybe “your” government is always infallible? Or, is it now time to tear down those monuments. Y’all lemme know. I’m good either way.

A wayward (and soon to be SJW’d) Starbucks employee saved America from Antifa yesterday. For each of the “protest” localities he ran the following message: “Out of soy latte.” Good on ya, bub.

Donna Brazile said HRC and Co. treated her like “Patsy the slave” during the 2016 election. Hillary was rumored to have been talking with Robert Byrd’s ghost on the Ouija Board around the same time.

Some call for banning guns. Others say ban terrorists. No one says ban trucks. Why not just call it all even and make murder illegal???

Arthur Blank has confessed to innocence on the part of his kneeling birdies. He understandably claims they didn’t know it was a protest or solidarity move; they just figured kneeling down was what losers do.

Robert Mueller has a case of constipation no indictment will cure.

AND NOW … Mugabe.

No word on why the young NYU grad was in Rhodesia Zimbabwe Hell. Her business, that. She maybe should have read Mencken on people hating the truth, powerful people in especial. She said Mugabe was a “sick man.” Okay, they hate half truths. The “sick” part is spot on – in so many ways. Sick “man” though? Come on, sweetie. We’re dealing a little to the left on the evolution chart here.

Ugly: adjective, unpleasant or repulsive, especially in appearance. See this:

gettyimages-630141672-66563b7e053062901b723c2055085451350759b9-s900-c85

Is is “Mugabe”? or “Mugaboo”? Mug – A – Boo. He mugs a lot of boos. All of them in fact.

Mugabe’s picture adorns Zimbabwe’s $100 Upmty-trillion Bill, currently sufficient to buy half a slice of bread.

UPDATE: Thanks to Mugabe’s stellar agricultural management, there is currently no bread in Zimbabwe. Save your money!

If not for periodic catheterization and his weekly prostate massage, Mugabe would have no social life at all.

If Obama had a really haggard, crusty old grandpa, who wrecked a formerly prosperous nation and looks like he lives in the back of a garbage truck, he’d look a lot like Mugabe.

How long is an eternity? Right now, it’s looking like 93 years.

NEWSFLASH!!!! Mugabe hit on Kevin Spacey last Friday night. Spacey is now straight as a board. And still vomiting.

If Hitler had been black he would have looked a lot like Mugabe – minus the flies.

A mislead yokel happily reported to Mugabe that the last white farmer had been run out on a rail. The young man then stammered that food was now a little low. He asked the dictator innocently, “what shall we eat?” Mugabe replied with a hungry grin, “you.”

Mugabe not so secretly hates his subjects. He recently denigrated one for having the audacity to die of starvation on the hood of Mugabe’s Rolls.

Mugabe is the one man reason for every single African refugee in the world. Can you blame them?

Mosquitoes are bad for Zika. Zika is bad for babies. Mugabe is bad for all three. Balance?

In 1994 Queen Elizabeth made the monumental mistake of knighting Mugabe. He stole the sword…

Late at night in the ghettos, now everywhere that isn’t Mugabe’s palace, hopeless Zimbabweans pray for deliverance – to the ghost of Ian Smith. (Not making that one up.)

Scorpions and asps tell Mugabe fables to keep their crawling and slithering children in line.

The only thing more wonderful than calling Mugabe a sick man would be to honestly call him a dead man.

Mugabe’s economic “reforms” hit the GDP so hard, they felt it back in old Rhodesia. Trans-quantum theft and corruption. Got to be a first!

An Ogre-faced Spider (Deinopidea Scariness-ia), largest and meanest in Zimbabwe, screamed like a little girl one day. It saw Mugabe in its shoe.

A team of time-traveling archeologists from the future wanted to study the meteor strike killed the dinosaurs and devastated the planet. They landed in Mugabe’s Zimbabwe by mistake. “Close enough,” their leader said.

And that’s close enough for us now…

* Got a few score drafts hanging around. I also owe some book reviews. Time to catch up?

English, quotes, Shakespeare

You probably quoted William Shakespeare lately, maybe without knowing, even meaning it. 21 Phrases from the Bard:

“Nay, if our wits run the wild-goose chase, I am done, for thou hast more of the wild-goose in one of thy wits than, I am sure, I have in my whole five. Was I with you there for the goose?” — Mercutio, Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene IV.

“True is it that we have seen better days and have with holy bell been knolled to church, and sat at good men’s feasts and wiped our eyes of drops that sacred pity hath engendered.” — Duke Senior, As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII.

And more. English. Speak it proudly.

IQ, stupidity, television

From Listverse:

Number One? Watching television.

Researchers have discovered that when it comes to intelligence, you are what you watch.

While it is fair to say that certain shows are informative, there are plenty of trashy shows that do not offer any educational value. However, in addition to lacking substance, stupid television shows have also been proven to actually make people dumber.

Markus Appel, an Austrian psychologist and professor, tested a group of college students on various subjects. Before administering the test, half the students were given a story about a silly man making all sorts of bad decisions. After reading about the not-so-smart shenanigans of the character, those students performed worse on the tests than the students who had not read the story.

Appel blames the results on “media priming.” Media priming refers to the residual, often unintended, effects of being exposed to media. This can result in changes in behavior, opinions, or intelligence.

This means that watching a reality show with a dumb person on it might seem funny, but their stupidity is contagious.

The others mostly make sense too. Enough sense for a Sunday.

culture, I'm a dog, KATY PERRY!!!, kiss, New York Times, society

File this one away under “What the …?!”

The Style section of The New York Times informs us of a strange happening in an increasingly strange land during very strange times:

Teenage Boy Miffed By Kiss ….. ………. From KATY PERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. At the outset I will say I do not think he’s a homosexual. Could be though I rather buy his “conservative family” line. I think that can mean puritanical. Not sure. Not sure about any of this…

With apologies to the Times, Carlos Slim, and Katherine Rosman (who writes a mean piece), I have to fair use the whole thing, here, now, for it’s massive value, and to easily insert my thoughts and reactions (BOLD):

When Benjamin Glaze, at the time a 19-year-old cashier from Enid, Okla., auditioned for “American Idol,” he had hoped his big moment would come as he belted out “Stadium,” a song he wrote himself. That or Nick Jonas’s 2015 single “Levels.”

Instead, it came when the popstar Katy Perry, a judge on the show, surprised him by kissing him smack on the lips, moments before his audition. He had never been kissed before.

“I was a tad bit uncomfortable,” Mr. Glaze said by phone this week, after the incident aired on the season premiere. His first kiss was a rite of passage he had been putting off with consideration. “I wanted to save it for my first relationship,” he said. “I wanted it to be special.”

How much more special can you get than kissing KATY PERRY!? At her insistence!!

And, honestly, how long is he planning on waiting for that first relationship? 19 … going on 40?

“Would I have done it if she said, ‘Would you kiss me?’ No, I would have said no,” he said. “I know a lot of guys would be like, ‘Heck yeah!’ But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately. I wanted my first kiss to be special.”

Again – it’s KATY PERRY! Had she asked me for a kiss last October, and then preemptively put the moves on me, I’d like to think I’d still be slobbering on her right now.

The scene with the kiss was part of the two-night season opener for the new “American Idol,” which is now airing on ABC after a 15-year run on Fox. It is being judged by a new panel of celebrities — Ms. Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan — and is hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who hosted the program on Fox, and is a creative consultant for the show as well.

In the segments that featured Mr. Glaze, he was shown waiting around in anticipation for his audition with other hopefuls.

After he entered the studio, guitar slung over his shoulder and looking a bit star struck, he said he enjoyed his work as a cashier because it let him meet “cute girls.”

Okay. Good thinking, kid!

“Have you kissed a girl and liked it?” asked Mr. Bryan, making a coy reference to Ms. Perry’s first hit single, “I Kissed A Girl.” Mr. Glaze said that he had not. “I have never been in a relationship and I can’t kiss a girl without being in a relationship.”

The lovely California Gurl immediately proved him wrong about that one.

At that, Ms. Perry stood up. “Come here,” she said to Mr. Glaze. “Come here right now.”

She told me to come but I was already there. (Brian Johnson’s voice).

Ms. Perry motioned for him to come over to the judges’ table and stuck her face toward him. “One on the cheek?” he said and she smiled. He quickly touched his face to her cheek. She asked for another kiss, complaining that he hadn’t even made the “smush sound.” As he moved toward her cheek again, Ms. Perry swung her face toward him and kissed him quickly on the lips. “Katy!” he yelled, as he stumbled backward. “You didn’t!” Ms. Perry raised her arms in victory.

I’d also like to think I’d later have her yelling my name… Victory!

Mr. Glaze then asked for a drink of water, delivered a lackluster audition and was kindly rejected by the judges.

Is it possible Perry blew his groove? Harshed his mellow? Whatever the kids say?

Even though it aired earlier this week, the audition itself took place last October and this has given Mr. Glaze, who is now 20, some time to consider the event with perspective.

20 and can say he kissed, hell, made out with, KATY PERRY!

The kiss did result in his getting more screen time, which has helped draw attention to his music. “So in that way,” he said, “I’m glad she did it because it’s a great opportunity to get my music out.”

Yeah. In that way…

When he returned home, Mr. Glaze worked through his feelings about the kiss by talking to his friends. “They agreed with me that it didn’t really count,” he said. “It was lip contact versus a romantic situation with someone you care about. That’s what a real first kiss is.”

Alright. I’ll go out on a limb and speculate the friends may be closeted.

He said he does not feel he was sexually harassed and is grateful to Ms. Perry for tweeting about him.

Ahem. I’d like to think! I’d say I didn’t feel Twitter harassed and am grateful for the kissing… I come from a different time and place; forgive me…

The show’s producers embraced the footage, using it in televised promos and on social media. On the American Idol website, Mr. Glaze’s performance is posted under the headline, “Benjamin Glaze’s First Kiss and Audition.” The show’s Twitter feed also posted a photograph of Mr. Glaze and wrote, “This journey has just begun, Benjamin. A kiss for good luck from @katyperry and you’re on your way.”

The first kiss of an aw-shucks teenager from Oklahoma, delivered by a superstar singer, might have made for a sweet pop-culture moment in a previous era. But as the nation re-examines sexual conduct and power dynamics in workplaces and in the media, the kiss didn’t land well with all viewers. “It was a forced sexual act,” one viewer posted in reply to American Idol’s tweet: “Imagine if this was from a male judge. Has @katyperry not taken anything from the #metoo movement?” In the same thread, another viewer wondered if Mr. Glaze’s religious convictions had been disrespected. And many other viewers mirrored the sentiment of one fan, who wrote, “Lucky son of a gun.”

Okay, in the interests of fighting plagiarism I left off the last sentence. Read Rosman’s work. Hell, subscribe to the Times. And I hope the mass quotation (for educational purposes as much as to highlight excellent journalism) indention carried over. Problems with the interface I’ve noticed… Anyway, more thoughts:

I kind of miss that previous era. What was it called again? Oh yeah. The Age of Sanity! An age when a kiss wasn’t a “forced sexual act.” It was just a kiss. Unless, of course, it was from KATY PERRY!!! Then, it would be considered legendary. Pop/Rock lyrics all over the place tonight:

It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today.

Now, for the young and/or stupid: what you call a “hashtag,” this thing, #, was first known as the “pound sign.” So … #metoo? No, Katy, I’d pound you first. Erudite? No. But honest, if vulgar. It’s KATY PERRY!!! we’re talking about!

I get where the kid, the young man, rather, is coming from. It’s almost nice to see a reminder of naive innocence in these darkened times. I don’t follow his or his family’s thinking on the relationship / “real” first kiss association but I respect it. The friends’ perspective, not so much.

I’ve seen entire websites, with more traffic than this one, that pontificate about boys or men like this. They use words like “Gamma,” “Soy,” and “MGTOW.” Not me. But I get it. I think. I think I can almost wrap my (warped) mind around this incident.

Some of you know that I myself have a conservative side. Whichever side that is, it is not concerned with stopping a kiss from KATY PERRY!!! I’ll admit to being as jealous as flabbergasted.

So, in conclusion:

Young fellow: Learn from this experience. Reach for the stars.

Katy: Shame on you, you love bipolar, hot and cold, dirty gurl.

Busybodies: Get a life.

NY Times: Please don’t sue me. I really think I have a DMCA fair use thingy…

14idol-master768

L-R: Awkward Yokel approaches with guitar; some guy with a chain starts to puke??; Katy …. mmmm Katy – that hair may not do it but, Lordy, the rest of her; hick in green shirt yucks it up. ABC/NYT.

KATY PERRY!!!
