You get what you elect, America, Minnesota.

Surprise, surprise! “Representative” Ilhan Omar (D-Somalia) supports(ed) ISIS:

Embattled congressional freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., once asked a judge to show leniency toward a group of Minnesota men accused of trying to join the Islamic State terror group.

“The best deterrent to fanaticism is a system of compassion,” she wrote at the time. “We must alter our attitude and approach; if we truly want to effect change, we should refocus our efforts on inclusion and rehabilitation.”

Unless that is, one wants inclusion in America of actual Americans. When it comes to our home team, naturally, she isn’t as tolerant:

“The [Covington, KY] boys were protesting a woman’s right to choose & yelled ‘it’s not rape if you enjoy it’ … They were taunting 5 Black men before they surrounded Phillips and led racist chants … Sandmann’s family hired a right wing PR firm to write his non-apology.” – deleted Tweet

Many years from now, after the war, we’ll look back on this and laugh.

Praise be to Molock! The shutdown is finished. For three weeks at least.

Submitting to mounting pressure amid growing disruption, President Donald Trump signed a bill Friday to reopen the government for three weeks, backing down from his demand that Congress give him money for his border wall before federal agencies get back to work.

Standing alone in the Rose Garden, Trump said he would sign legislation funding shuttered agencies until Feb. 15 and try again to persuade lawmakers to finance his long-sought wall. The deal he reached with congressional leaders contains no new money for the wall but ends the longest shutdown in U.S. history.

Just as with that last election, your problems are all over now. Go back to sleep.

No Shutdown and No Wall

This was predictable: Trump caves on Shutdown/Wall.

The Senate swiftly and unanimously approved the deal, and the House was ready to follow suit and send the legislation to Trump for his signature.

Trump’s retreat came in the 35th day of the partial shutdown as intensifying delays at the nation’s airports and another missed payday for hundreds of thousands of federal workers brought new urgency to efforts to resolve the standoff.

The shutdown was ending as Democratic leaders had insisted it must — reopen the government first, then talk border security. “The president thought he could crack Democrats, and he didn’t, and I hope it’s a lesson for him,” said the Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said of her members: “Our unity is our power. And that is what maybe the president underestimated.”

It’s certainly a lesson.

Okay, now we wait two days for the strategery, if any. Actually, we’ve been waiting for two years now. Trump admits there’s an emergency and that he has the authority and power to deal with it … later. We wait.

The shutdown isn’t the problem – next to none care about it. It’s the invasion and the decline, Mr. President.

Yesterday’s Liberal is Today’s Conservative

The exploration of a non-ideology:

Conservatism certainly seems alive and well in America. For years polls have consistently shown that more Americans identify as conservative than as liberal. In recent decades both branches of Congress, as well as the White House, have often been controlled by Republicans – who generally regard themselves as conservative. “Conservative” Fox News has for some time been the country’s most widely viewed television news source. Rush Limbaugh, who proudly calls himself a conservative, has for decades been the country’s most popular radio talk show host.

But such influence is deceptive.

Over the past century, conservatives have drastically shifted their views, abandoning their stands on one issue after another, including Medicare, federal spending, Martin Luther King Day, and more. On any given issue, the “conservative” view of today is often the “liberal” view of ten years earlier.

When the Franklin Roosevelt administration and a compliant Congress were establishing Social Security during the 1930s, conservatives opposed it. Denouncing it as “socialist,” they pointed out that it’s basically a compulsory old age insurance program. They likewise resisted Medicare in the years before it was established in 1966, calling this federal program “socialized medicine.”

Today not a single prominent politician who regards himself as conservative dares call for dismantling Social Security or Medicare. To the contrary, conservative politicians assure voters that they will “protect” these programs. Conservatives likewise fought the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Although there is still some residual talk of repealing and replacing it, it appears that some form of the Act will remain in place. And just as they eventually accepted the once-despised Social Security and Medicare programs, conservatives very likely will come around to accepting some version of Obamacare.

Just be right, right-wing. Keep it that way.

Vox Day advises on what we can hope for at 3 pm:

“I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse.”
-Donald J. Trump

It had better be one of two things.
The God-Emperor is declaring martial law and Draining the Swamp.
The God-Emperor is announcing the Building of the Big Beautiful Wall.

To quote Han Solo, “I have a bad feeling about this.” A more likely announcement is along the lines of the Dallas Morning News op-ed, just as shit stupid as they get, about amnesty for you know who.

And, we wait.

Yep. It seems that Christians are 3.2 times overrepresented. Not what the Founders had in mind.

One hopes so, regardless of what the fake Mueller “Russia, Russia, Russia” investigation reveals:

Alan Dershowitz, a frequent defender of President Donald Trump, said special counsel Robert Mueller’s report will be “devastating” for the president.

The Harvard Law professor emeritus told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos that he believes the president will have to navigate the political impact of a potentially damning final report from the special counsel.

“I think the report is going to be devastating to the president and I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report,” Dershowitz said on “This Week” Sunday.

Dershowitz added that he believes the report, although it will have a strong political impact, is unlikely to result in criminal charges.

In fact, the report, devastating or not, may be a good thing; it may provide a convenient list (should anyone in power want one) of enemy combatant candidates. It’ll probably make for some funny Tweets too. Bring it.

GOP, history, Lawrence Vance, politics, stupid

Another “woulda, shoulda, coulda” train of thought, from Lawrence Vance, on the uselessness of the Republican Party.

Here are twenty reasonable things that the Republicans could have done:

Repeal Obamacare in its entirety
Abolish the National Endowment for the Arts
Abolish the National Endowment for the Humanities
Eliminate refundable tax credits
Eliminate the Department of Education
Stop cash welfare payments
Cease funding any scientific research on climate change
Means test all welfare programs
Abolish the TSA and returned airport security to the private sector
Eliminate CAFE standards
Allow people to sell their bodily organs upon their death
Defund Planned Parenthood
End the federal war on marijuana and leave the issue up to the states
End the embargo against Cuba and allow Americans to freely travel there
Eliminate all foreign aid
End all restrictions on the production of hemp
Eliminate all funding for manned and unmanned missions to Mars
Privatize the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak)
Abolish the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
End all farm subsidies
And Republicans certainly could have eliminated Daylight Saving Time.

Not only could Republicans have done these things, they could have done them the first month that they had absolute control of the government. But they, as usual, did nothing.

It’s not even a penny’s worth of difference.

Modern elections are nothing except different groups of deluded fools fighting over a rotting corpse.

Debt, debt, and more debt:

The federal government is set to reinstate its borrowing limit, and a new analysis indicates that it will be a record-high $22 trillion — and then, it won’t provide enough money to fund the government past summer.

The shocking number, however, is only slightly higher than the current actual debt of some $21 trillion.

The ceiling has been in suspension and the debt has grown under President Trump. It is set to be reinstated on March 2, 2019.

A new Bipartisan Policy Center estimate suggests that the new limit will be $22 trillion, assuming no action is taken by lawmakers before that time.

The BPC analysis said: “Treasury will be able to fully fund the government until at least mid-summer 2019 by using extraordinary measures, cash-on-hand, and incoming cash flow. But costs to taxpayers will start earlier from factors associated with reaching the debt limit such as higher interest rates on U.S. Treasury securities.”

Through mid-Summer, 2019… That’s with the GOP at the helm, BTW. Dems, preparing to raid Congress, are calling for – wait for it – more gun control!!!

Democrats say they will pass the most aggressive gun-control legislation in decades when they become the House majority in January, plans they renewed this week in the aftermath of a mass killing in a California bar.

Their efforts will be spurred by an incoming class of pro-gun-control lawmakers who scored big in Tuesday’s midterm elections, although any measure would likely meet stiff resistance in the GOP-controlled Senate.

Democrats ousted at least 15 House Republicans with “A” National Rifle Association ratings, while the candidates elected to replace them all scored an “F” NRA rating.

“This new majority is not going to be afraid of our shadow,” said Mike Thompson, a California Democrat who is chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. “We know that we’ve been elected to do a job, and we’re going to do it.”

More like doing a number than a job, really. So, with all the money flying away and the thugs coming for your gat … just relax with some happy social media to beat the blues. Oh, wait.

The link between the two has been talked about for years, but a causal connection had never been proven. For the first time, University of Pennsylvania research based on experimental data connects Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram use to decreased well-being. Psychologist Melissa G. Hunt published her findings in the December Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology.

Well, at least Big Social doesn’t spy on you. Oh, wait…
