Seniors at South Korean high schools returned to the physical classrooms after a months-long hoax-cation. These students stand above their American counterparts in all academic areas. Look at the picture in the linked article. First, they look like students, like adults – the men wear ties like American men did seventy years ago. Notice the obvious proper body proportions, like we had seventy years ago. They seem to lack something in that room deemed ultra-critical by the charlatans who ruined America’s schools and culture, something we did without seventy years ago.

As for the hoax, they’re all wearing fear masks, some have wipes, one boy handles a plastic something-or-another, and all of them are behind plastic shields (like the foreign kids I TPC’d a few weeks ago). And yet some of them are still catching mild cases of the cold! If serious, hygienic, and intelligent Korean students can’t social-distance the hoax away, then what chance have slovenly, dull-witted, careless Amerikans?

[Note to Koreans: DO NOT become Amerikans in 70 years!]

A real school system in a functioning country implemented all the hysteria-based craziness and still can’t escape the hoax. Child abuse victims in the Empire’s “schools” have no chance. These institutions are a plague in and of themselves. Keep them closed forever.

Expected and unsurprising news from a recent poll, at least on the surface.

  • Great majorities, across party lines, favor socialism in the USE;
  • 75% want socialized medicine;
  • 82% want universal basic income.

Taking the 82% as an example gifts the best news I’ve heard all year! 82 subtracted from 100 = 18. That 18% of the people in the USE, the ones who do not want socialism, are a likely-as-not statistical representation of the population that still AMERICAN. And I was thinking it was probably half of that. Hope yet.

America has become a massive case study in the wicked (mis)leading the stupid. I just returned home from [Big Box Store] where everyone except me stepped and fetched wearing Halloween costumes and mumbling about “getting it.” If only they got it!

Or, nation-shaped kind of place, that giant mental asylum between Mexico and Canada.

While you shuffled around in your Halloween costume, foraging for toilet paper and trying to stay saaaaaafe, the following was going on:

Orange Man is advised by cartoon character idiots (spacesuits for the sheep!);

In a 100-man Senate, 6 is unanimous. Now, this is the second bailout bill. The one from a few weeks ago just wasn’t enough even though it was the most expensive single-ticket insanity in history. (And, they are already putting the finishing touches on yet another package, likely to be followed by another, then another, etc.). This 6-man, unanimous, quick-n-easy $483 Billion spree amounts to more than the entire federal budget for 1978 ($458 Bn).

An alternate way to spell “U-S-A” is “D-E-A-D.” I look forward to the Fourth of July – provided the country is even moderately open by then – and all the platitudes and songs about freedom and so forth. Okay, for now, everyone stay saaaaaaafe! We’re all in this, like it or not, together. We can beat the invisible enemy, and history, and reality, and even gravity.

The Empire, ahead of its impending fall, has suddenly, instantly, and without opposition grown by leaps and bounds. Who could have ever foreseen this???

Government also has changed personal behavior, recommending and in some cases ordering people to stay home, practice social distancing and wear masks outdoors, in some places under threat of fines or penalties. Coming next is likely to be contact tracing, an effort to track people exposed to the virus that could invade the privacy of all Americans.

So far, Washington has authorized more than $2.35 trillion to prop up suffering workers and industries and supply an overwhelmed health care system, with another round of spending likely coming soon. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve has resurrected and expanded its playbook from the 2008 financial crisis, pumping an estimated $4 trillion into the economy.

More spending could be required in the future to patch the holes the pandemic has revealed. The nation also is likely to need higher taxes — and not just on the wealthiest — to help repay the gigantic debt Washington is incurring to rescue the economy and workers.

Recently, but before Corona Mania hit, someone I admire wrote that the coming (2020) political battle would be between conservatives and socialists. At the time, I thought, “Then, congratulations, socialists!” But then, the conservatives didn’t even show up. So, congratulations, socialists! Enjoy your hoax victory while it lasts. Time is tick, tick, ticking away, virus or no virus.

What is the American Dream in 2020? I think we’re all past the point in believing in a nice little house (maybe any house) and the two kids (or even any human relationship). All that has been completely killed by the ancient enemy and, if we’re honest, by us. At least by the older generations. Thanks, assholes!

So, what is it today? Getting that stimulus welfare check and wearing a mask to Walmart to fight over toilet paper? This isn’t a dream. It’s become a reality. It’s a nightmare.

Anyway, I just learned that, like everything else, one of my favorite places, the Smokey Mountains National Park, is closed … until. This reminds me of the closure back in the 90s when the Republicrats couldn’t issue enough debt fast enough and decided to punish the people. Then, as I suspect now, the fact that the gates are closed does not mean that one can’t go in and hike or camp. I discovered that there was no force field absolutely prohibiting entry. Best of all, the crowds are gone and no pesky rangers will stoop around your site. There have been no virus sightings in the hills. So, maybe that’s the place to go. About the only dream that’s left. Happy hiking.

Snow in April?? Where’s “global warming” when we need it?

The Dark Winter exercise began with a briefing on the geopolitical context of the exercise, which included intelligence suggesting that China had intentionally introduced Foot and Mouth disease in Taiwan for economic and political advantage; that Al-Qaeda was seeking to purchase biological pathogens once weaponized by the Soviet Union; and that Saddam Hussein of Iraq had recruited former biowarfare specialists from the Soviet Union and was importing materials to create biological weapons. It further notes that a majority of Americans had opposed a planned deployment of U.S. soldiers to the Middle East, which was also opposed by Iraq, China and Russia. The script also asserts that the soldiers were being deployed to counter and potentially engage the Iraqi military. Later, as the exercise unfolds, many of those Americans once skeptical about this troop deployment soon begin calling for “revenge.”

Amid this backdrop, news suddenly breaks that smallpox, a disease long eradicated in the U.S. and globally, appears to have broken out in the state of Oklahoma. The participants in Dark Winter, representing the National Security Council, quickly deduce that smallpox has been deliberately introduced and that this is the result of a “bioterrorist attack on the United States.” The assumption is made that the attack is “related to decisions we may make to deploy troops to the Mid-East.”

Not unlike what is unfolding currently with the Covid-19 crisis, in Dark Winter, there is no means of rapid diagnosis for smallpox, no treatments available and no surge capacity in the healthcare system. The outbreak quickly spreads to numerous other U.S. states and throughout the world. Hospitals in the U.S. soon face “desperate situations” as “tens of thousands of ill or anxious persons seek care.” This is compounded by “grossly inadequate supplies” and “insufficient isolation rooms,” among other complications.

Why, again, and how can anyone trust anything Washington says?

A Muddled Non-Ideology

Charles Coulombe does a great job of defining the indefinable.

The point in this ancient and obscure history is that even with the best will in the world (and extremely educated people), “Conservatism” in America has always been well-nigh impossible to define, much less organize. Attempts to do so have rarely succeeded in the long run. After World War II, Russel Kirk attempted to do so with considerably more success than Collins (reflecting his own far greater depth and intellect). But this mixture, too, was unsteady; reaching its apogee with the election of Reagan, it blew apart afterwards with the fall of communism and had little effect in stopping the decay of American society.

A major part of the problem is that America herself lacks definition. Speakers on all sides of political spectrum will say such things as “America is more an idea than a country.” But that idea is sufficiently tenuous for players as diverse as the German American Bund and the Abraham Lincoln Brigade to wrap themselves in it. In this writer’s opinion, what is needed is, first, a love of the country as it actually is, historical warts and all: its diverse peoples and customs and its real contributions to humanity—from cocktails to the Great American Songbook and the polio vaccine.

For the Catholic, however, this is only the beginning. At heart, the woes of these United States are not political but cultural—that is to say, religious. The best thing we can do about them is not to argue about whether Hamilton or Jefferson was “more American” but to strive our hardest to evangelize this country. A Catholic America would be truly something worth conserving.

Funny, but the definitions of “American” and “America” were crystal clear in the early days of the Old Republic. What slipped? I suppose it was yet another of the endless failings of these conservatives to conserve anything, even their own identity. It’s no wonder that they couldn’t conserve handshaking and toilet paper. A better goal would be the rebuilding of a Catholic or other Christian America. The way to do that is, after the dust settles on the current hoax, to reinstitute the traditional. One tradition we do not need is that of the non-ideology of conservatism. Take the bow ties and settle over in New Amerika or somewhere.

What happened to that? What happened to the “wall” from Jefferson’s letter and Everson V. BOE, etc? I suppose that only applied to running God and the Godly out of the government’s schools. Now, that the schools are all closed, the state has no problem whatsoever prohibiting the free exercise of religion. Worse, the churches and the people have gone along happily. It could be that, along with covering for the usurers, the hysteria was designed to empty the pews. This may be new but it isn’t normal.

When the largest bailout in human history isn’t enough.

Even if the bill passes, the story won’t be over:

    • We are likely to be in this same situation again, economists say — and soon.
    • Another stimulus bill will likely be necessary to get the economy running after the COVID-19 outbreak has been contained.
    • More immediately, it’s possible that a second massive spending bill will be needed just to stop further bleeding.

What it means: “This should not be thought of as a stimulus bill — this should be thought of as social insurance in a disaster state of the world for the most hard hit,” Jonathan Parker, professor of finance at MIT, told Axios during a virtual briefing with reporters Wednesday.

    • “The idea is to freeze time for a month or six weeks and let people emerge with not a huge amount of debt — not starving, not being evicted.”
    • This would ideally produce “a V-shaped recovery where people find themselves roughly where they were when we went in.”

This “V-shaped” idea is the craziest thing I’ve heard since they said a cold bug caused the depression. People entered into the V with a huge amount of debt – and no assets – and that is the problem. More free money, despite being what everyone says they want, is the opposite of the right answer.

What people do not want is any cumbersome freedom. There is no fear of losing civil liberties.

The orders seem prudent in the bid to thwart the spread of the novel coronavirus: Don’t go out, don’t gather with others and keep your stores closed. But growing segments of the U.S. population say state and federal governments are trampling on freedoms central to American life in the name of protecting public health.

The case is already being made. A church-goer in New Hampshire says prohibitions against large gatherings violate her religious rights. A Pennsylvania golf course owner argues that gubernatorial edicts shuttering his business amount to illegal seizure of his private property.

So, a few “nuts” care about freedom. What did Sallust say again? The majority couldn’t be happier to lock themselves down, so long as a little free cheddar is promised.

And, the lies. The past week and a half, I have watched or listened to more television bullshit than I have in the past ten years. Virtually everything I’ve heard has been a damned lie and an easily disproved damned lie. That so many people put faith in this foolishness says something unpleasant about the wreck of America.

This social distancing is starting to sound appealing. In fact, I’m investigating a way to make it permanent. I’d like to put as much distance between me and the social idiocy as possible.
