Big Brother? Or Big Smother? Just a day in the life in Airstrip One Wichita.

If you are caught making a violation on camera by a staffer who is monitoring Old Town from an office in City Hall, that staffer will call and alert a nearby officer of your violation.

The staffer will provide the officer with your location, a description of your vehicle and what violation you made.

That officer can then pull you over.

“I hope people don’t perceive this as ‘Big Brother,’ ” Wichita police Sgt. Kelly O’Brien said. “Officers are monitoring public places where you see it from public viewing. It’s just a way for officers to enhance their abilities to protect the community and improve traffic safety and also improve officer safety.”

Still, O’Brien knows not everyone will think this is OK.

“I did an informal survey before we ever did this to every friend and person I came across, and it’s a 50/50 split,” he said, mentioning that even his wife and daughter were not necessarily on board with camera-based traffic enforcement.

There are 97 cameras monitoring the core of Old Town, with particular attention at First and Washington, Second and Washington and Third and Mead.

Eye in the sky watching you 24/7. How could anyone possibly associate that with “big brother”?

There are ways to beat camera-based offenses, pretty easy ones. However, most will simply opt to pay the taxes fines. That’s what Big Brother O’Brien counts on. And the courts have already rubber-stamped the telescreens. Probably not 50/50 either – the peeps gotta love this “security”.

Definitely NOT Big Brother. You have the right to confront the teevee accuser. Or maybe the keyboard. Nah. Kansas.com.

In Catalonia. For the leaders, at least.

Catalonia’s deposed leader Carles Puigdemont and four former advisers have turned themselves in to Belgian police, says a prosecutors’ spokesman.

He said an investigating judge would decide by Monday morning whether to execute an EU arrest warrant issued by a Spanish judge on Friday.

Mr Puigdemont fled to Belgium after Madrid imposed direct rule on Catalonia following an independence referendum.

He has said he will not return to Spain unless he is guaranteed a fair trial.

He and his four associates are wanted on charges of rebellion, sedition, misuse of public funds, disobedience and breach of trust following the referendum which a Spanish court deemed unconstitutional.

Last week, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy imposed direct rule on Catalonia, dissolved the regional parliament and called local elections for 21 December.

Mr Puigdemont’s associates also now in custody are Meritxell Serret (former agriculture minister), Antoni Comín (former health minister), Lluís Puig (former culture minister), and Clara Ponsatí (former education minister).

A perhaps fitting release for Halloween: An eye-opening, if slightly demoralizing study from Cato, finds Americans live in fear of words. (Carlin got this years ago).

Americans Say Political Correctness Has Silenced Discussions Society Needs to Have; Most Have Views They’re Afraid to Share

Nearly three-fourths (71%) of Americans believe that political correctness has done more to silence important discussions our society needs to have. A little more than a quarter (28%) instead believe that political correctness has done more to help people avoid offending others.

The consequences are personal-58% of Americans believe the political climate today prevents them from saying things they believe. Democrats are unique, however, in that a slim majority (53%) do not feel the need to self-censor. Conversely, strong majorities of Republicans (73%) and independents (58%) say they keep some political beliefs to themselves.

If one loose cannon sets off a state of emergency in your state or at your “school,” you may have a worse problem that just him. Florida Today.

This kind of goes with the failing schools and falling IQs thing.

Americans used to bravely stare down bears, whales, and British troops. Now they recoil in horror and fear from pronouns, banana peels, and geometry.

Anyway, thank God nothing offensive ever appears at this site. For instance,

Nothing offensive about these Happy Halloween Tunes!

Happy Halloween, wimps…

Catalonia Declares Full Independence From Spain

Catalonia, freedom, independence, Spain

This after weeks of half-hearted posturing, “negotiations,” an angry speech from the King, and a 90% vote in favor of freedom. Spain voted, only 40 minutes later, to end the secession effort. Historically, this kind of juxtaposition sometimes leads to war. Let’s hope not in this case.

The debate came after Catalan President Carles Puigdemont on Thursday opted against declaring independence or calling early elections, instead calling on MPs to decide.

A motion declaring independence was approved with 70 in favour, 10 against, and two abstentions in the 135-seat chamber.

The measure calls for the transfer of legal powers from Spain to an independent Catalonia.

But the Spanish Constitutional Court is likely to declare it illegal, and few in the international community will recognise Catalan statehood.

Immediately afterwards, Mr Rajoy called for all Spaniards to remain calm, promising to “restore legality” to Catalonia.

What will the Spanish government do next?

Soon after the vote at the regional parliament, the Senate – Spain’s upper house – made the unprecedented step of approving measures allowing the Spanish government to impose direct rule over Catalonia.

There were 214 votes in favour and 47 against.

Mr Rajoy is now expected to hold a cabinet meeting and decide what measures to take.

It could include the firing of Catalan leaders, and the Spanish government taking control of the region’s finances, police and publicly owned media

Elsewhere the usual types decry the move (for independence) as a “dark day for democracy.” In other words, democratic actions of the people and their leaders, in unison, constitute an affront to democracy. Clear as mud – unless these usual suspects only mean democracy as a cover for tyranny. And, that they do.

No telling how this complex case will play out. I have a feeling we will know very soon. (How many tank divisions does Madrid have??)

For now, I welcome and embrace Europe’s newest country.

Alabama, freedom, law, marriage, The West

Alabama will consider a Bill to abolish the state law requirement of a marriage license. From the 10th Amendment Center (how appropriate) (here, from LRC):

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Oct. 23, 2017) – A bill prefiled in the Alabama Senate would abolish marriage licenses in the state and effectively nullify in practice both major sides of the contentious national debate over government-sanctioned marriage.

Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Bay Minette) prefiled Senate Bill 13 (SB13) in September. The legislation would abolish all requirements to obtain a marriage license in Alabama. Instead, probate judges would simply record civil contracts of marriage between two individuals based on signed affidavits.

According to the bill summary, SB13 would “eliminate the requirement for solemnization of a marriage for it to be considered valid” and “specify that the judge of probate would have no authority to reject any recording of a marriage, so long as the affidavits, forms, and data are provided. must record certain affidavits, forms, and data regarding the marriage.”

During the 2017 legislative session, Albritton introduced a similar bill. The Senate approved SB20 by a 22-6 vote, and the House Judiciary Committee approved the legislation 10-4 along party lines with some technical amendments. However, it failed to get a vote in the full House. A similar outcome occurred in the 2016 legislative session.

The proposed law would maintain a few state requirements governing marriage. Minors between the ages of 16 and 18 would have to obtain parental permission before marrying, the state would not record a marriage if either party was already married, and the parties could not be related by blood or adoption as already stipulated in state law.

Civil or religious ceremonies would have no legal effect upon the validity of the marriage. The state would only recognize the legal contract signed by the two parties entering into the marriage.

In practice, the state’s role in marriage would be limited to recording marriages that have already occurred.

…

Maybe the third times the charm. The government has no business or competence in higher, Sacramental matters.

That wailing sound you hear is from the hardened anti-Western, anti-freedom statists of Montgomery, et al.

*Notes: Marriage, in and of itself, is not a right. Priests do not officiate weddings. And there is a third party (just not the state).

The Big Club has big secrets. Amazingly, so much of what they do is out in the open for any to see who just look up. Given the low IQs, addictions, television, tattoos, diabetes, and goldfish-like attentions, there’s never too many people watching or caring. Maybe that’s for the best.

Pry too deeply into the internal affairs of the globalist elite and they can silence you: Maltese journalist who led Panama Papers invesitgation killed in car bomb.

Malta’s prime minister has appealed for national unity following the murder of a campaigning journalist who had accused his government of corruption.

Daphne Caruana Galizia, 53, achieved fame and notoriety for investigative reporting laced with scathing commentary about allegedly corrupt officials and businessmen. She was killed on Monday when a powerful bomb blew up her car.

…

Caruna Galizia’s blog, Running Commentary, was one the most widely read websites on Malta and led the investigation of corruption allegations stemming from revelations in the so-called Panama Papers leak.

It was famed for a relentless pursuit of cases of apparent corruption and incendiary, sometimes highly personal, comments that saw her embroiled in frequent legal battles.

Earlier this year Politico magazine listed her as one of the 28 men and women “making and shaking Europe” for her unrelenting crusade against what she saw as Malta’s culture of “cronyism” and opaque government.

…

In her last blog post, published just hours before she died, she bemoaned the lack of progress in prosecuting alleged corruption cases.

“There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate,” she wrote in the last line.

Deadly crooks. She had also recently sought police protection due to increased threats of violence. For whom do the police work?

Telegraph/AP.

I mentioned the Panama Papers last year, in the context of the war on your cash money:

The Panama Papers are the largest information leak in history. 2.6 Terabytes worth of documentation was smuggled out of a Panama-based law firm which caters to some of the world’s richest and most powerful people. The papers reveal that the super-rich routinely offshore their considerable assets in an effort to evade control and taxation, and to maintain secrecy. Vladimir Putin, for example has at least $2 Billion hidden away; while running for office he declared his net worth to be a few hundred thousands.

By itself there is nothing wrong with this offshoring just as there’s nothing wrong with getting $20,000 from an ATM. It’s your money; do with it as you like.

The problem is the hypocrisy. At the same time these vampires seek to completely lock our assets down within the system they are moving their own money out of it. Perhaps this revelation will lead to the discovery of the stolen MF Global funds or the Madoff money. I would love to see Larry Summers’s name revealed, connected with secret accounts. Summers, Madoff, and John Corzine have acted against us in the war, treating us to POW-style financial torture. How should we counter-attack?

Most of this will be completely missed by the majority of Americans. There’s too much other stuff going on – the Final Four, the sham election, tattoos, etc. Our enemies plan on all of these distractions working. It’s time we withdraw from their system. While we’re at it we should offshore as many of these rats as we can find – send them anywhere but here.

Daphne Caruana Galizia was withdrawn – violently. It’s hard to miss a car bomb though I imagine most Americans will.

A loss for freedom.

Birth of a Nation: Catalonia Prepares for Independence

Catalans prepares for freedom.

Spain prepares for war.

Catalonia will declare independence from Spain in a matter of days, the leader of the autonomous region has told the BBC.

In his first interview since a disputed vote on Sunday, Carles Puigdemont said his government would “act at the end of this week or the beginning of next”.

Meanwhile, Spain’s King Felipe VI said the vote’s organisers had put themselves “outside the law”.

He said the situation in Spain was “extremely serious”, calling for unity.

Tensions between Spain and the north-eastern Catalonia region continue to mount, days after the vote was marred by violence involving national police.

The Spanish High Court said it had begun an investigation into key Catalan figures on Wednesday on suspicion of sedition – inciting rebellion against the state – including the head of Catalonia’s regional police.

…

The troops mobilize:

Defense Tuesday ordered the sending of the Army to Catalonia with material and to provide logistical support to the Civil Guard and the National Police. [Translated].

Channeling his inner T-Rex or Abe Lincoln, King Felipe says Catalans “have broken the democratic principles of the rule of law.”

So, according to the monarchist, globalist statists, engaging in democracy is now considered braking democracy. And we pay these people…

It’s also refreshing to see that a government that won’t send a single soldier to halt an invasion from Africa will happily send the army to stop tax protesters.

Democratically suppressing democracy. BBC.

I stand ready to welcome and acknowledge the Catalan Republic.

By the way, this is the beginning of a trend – probably coming to a country near you. Results may vary.

In their independence, if they wish, or otherwise. The craven and useless U.S. government does not – nor do their pets in the media. That’s why you, in the US or outside of Western Europe, have heard so so little about today’s referendum.

For what it’s worth, the US doesn’t support independence in Kurdistan either – or anywhere else really.

“The United States does not recognize the Kurdistan Regional Government’s unilateral referendum held on Monday. The vote and the results lack legitimacy and we continue to support a united, federal, democratic and prosperous Iraq,” said the man who tried to destroy the Boy Scouts of America.

Out of respect for democracy, we cannot recognize the democratic actions of a people. Nice.

The controllers want control. They don’t care about unity, freedom, or prosperity. They certainly don’t care about peace. This woman wasn’t a victim of the terror attacks in either Canada nor France:

DLEo553V4AAMw78

Drudge.

No. She was a victim of imperial aggression meted out by the shock troops of Madrid. Her crime was trying to vote her conscience.

Not a lot of unity or prosperity in that picture, eh?

Despite the worst efforts of the Satanic globalists some people still want self-determination; some wish to be free.

Another Rare (Odd) Victory for the Fourth Amendment

Another court has quashed the warrantless use of “Stingray” devices by the police.

A device that tricks cellphones into sending it their location information and has been used quietly by police and federal agents for years, requires a search warrant before it is turned on, an appeals court in Washington ruled Thursday. It is the fourth such ruling by either a state appeals court or federal district court, and may end up deciding the issue unless the government takes the case to the U.S. Supreme Court or persuades the city’s highest court to reverse the ruling.

The case against Prince Jones in 2013 involved D.C. police use of a “StingRay” cell-site simulator, which enables law enforcement to pinpoint the location of a cellphone more precisely than a phone company can when triangulating a signal between cell towers or using a phone’s GPS function. Civil liberties advocates say the StingRay, by providing someone’s location to police without court approval, is a violation of an individual’s Fourth Amendment right not to be unreasonably searched. The D.C. Court of Appeals agreed in a 2 to 1 ruling, echoing similar rulings in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and federal district courts in New York City and San Francisco.

For those only concerned with “law and order,” this was just a case of bad police work. That is why all of their evidence and any hope of subsequent conviction is gone. The perp had two stolen cellphones in his possession, either of which could have been tapped with explicit permission. Instead, they opted to spy directly on the bad guy’s phone, sans the warrant. You get what you pay for – or skip.

As a victory, I’m sure there is a technological way around all of this anyway. That, or the Supremes will ultimately find that such illegal spying is really just a tax or something.

For now, it’s another small victory for the Bill of Rights.

America, Big Club, freedom, Jimmy Carter, ochlocracy, oligarchy

Jimmy Carter is right about the oligarchy angle but there is more:

Former President Jimmy Carter offered a damning indictment of U.S. foreign policy and domestic affairs Tuesday, saying money in politics makes the nation more like an “oligarchy than a democracy” and casting President Donald Trump as a disappointment on the world stage.

Carter’s criticisms, offered at his annual presentation to backers of his post-presidency Carter Center in Atlanta, went beyond Trump, but he was particularly critical of the nation’s direction under the Republican president’s leadership.

The 39th president, a Democrat, offered this advice to the 45th: “Keep the peace, promote human rights and tell the truth.”

Carter’s insisting on peace, human rights, and truth shows just how long he’s been away from Washington. It’s as bad as Rand ranting about the Constitution and the Senate actually doing its job. Sad.

Just one example:

Proof of Oligarchy: Trump pushes DACA, Wall can Wait.

Proof of Ochlocracy: Appeased by Football and fake Economic Numbers, MAGAers Overlook DACA/Wall.

Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Chuck Schumer

Just because you’re not in The Big Club doesn’t mean you won’t support it. Talking Points.
