And we enter into 2020! Wow. And, it’s the ninth calendar year for the Highly Respected Web Log. There’s a lot to come, soon and over the year. Post 3,000(!) is right around the corner. More fiction and then some. The Eighth Anniversary is ahead this June. Stay tuned. For now, enjoy some champagne. – P

2019, best of 2019, blog, blog history

What a year! Previously, when I’ve had the time, I’ve gone through and looked up the most popular or most prominent posts for each of the twelve months of the waning year. No time for that now. (I do think that my favorite would have to do with THE SUBSTITUTE and the turn towards fictional literature). However, you can make your own calls, here. You can simply start pressing the “older posts” or “previous posts” buttons and take a gander through hundreds of submissions. Alternatively, you can look through the index, sidebar left, and select the months for inspection.

Thank you all for the views and (very few) comments. Here’s to a great 2020! See you then. -P

Closing the Comments

A few changes are in effect for 2020 (the remained of 2019 too).

First and most prominently, I have closed the comments for all new posts. I think I have sealed off older entries also. The post(s) of the current day still display “leave a comment;” however, ALL go to moderation without automatically appearing in sequence. Why? Well, anymore there aren’t that many comments in the first place. But you simply would not believe the garbage that the filters catch – spam, attacks, and walls of idiotic text. I’m done with that. I do apologize to the very few long-time readers who still leave thoughtful comments. Most of you know how to get ahold of me if there’s something that has to be added via a quoted update. And, should I find one of your comments before it flys off to the land of moderation, I’ll happily let it through. The “like” feature remains.

Second, I have removed all links to various (anti) social media. I have no interest in entertaining or confusing the 95 IQ denizens of Farcebook or Twitland. I almost left the WP “press” button and considered adding “print” or “email,” but, why? This is a ban on direct links; if it’s pressing, then you can always cut and paste a link address to the social or other function of your choice. As noted, the “like” feature is still here along with the “reblog” button. No apologies.

Third, the policy going forward is that this blog does not accept guest submissions. Nor will I answer inquiries regarding the same. The exception to this new rule would only apply to people whom I know and/or trust. Ironically, almost all of them have their own platforms. If you have a genuine interest in spreading some idea to the www, then please visit WP, Blogger, Wix, or some other development program and start your own forum. The rest of you, phish somewhere else.

As always, I reserve the right to make (or threaten to make) other changes. The foregoing is made in response to continuous activities here, noted and otherwise. And, there is a new direction on the internet of which I am becoming extremely dubious. I was not kidding, a while back, about the manual typewriter and electricity.

It’s going to be an exciting year. Please stay tuned and thank you for your support.

2012, 2019, 7th anniversary, blog

Thousands of posts. Hundreds of views. Twenty-three comments. One rambling host. Yeah, so I missed the actual birthday on the 24th, but it was on this day, back in 2012, that things really got started here:

Screenshot 2019-06-27 at 3.55.13 PM

And, after years of my relentless nagging, the issue of ObamaCare was pretty much de-teethed (though not repealed).

Thanks for all the visits. Now’s about the time I normally talk about new and better changes. There’ll be some – you’ll know ’em when you see them.

Happy Birthday, Blog!

I just wrapped up this week’s TPC column, which is mainly an explanation of me being tired. I am. With good reason. That here, then. And more! Whew…

Thanks for joining in. Come back soon. Fiction will be the future.

A few things:

A new TPC column is in the hopper. It will covertly bring to light a project I’ve been working on, in addition to being excellent reading.

Several major projects have been underway and more are kicking off. More on that later.

The 7th anniversary of this “highly respected web log” is right around the corner.

A hot, busy summer awaits. Stay tuned.

2018, best of, blog, perrinlovett.me, year in review

A continuation of a tradition here at your “highly respected web log.” It’s a little different this year: January through March I offer the top-viewed posts – in a way. From April through now, it’s the top TPC columns – where, admittedly, the action really is. So:

Jan – Mar, 2018: Look down the left sidebar (PC version, not mobile) for March 2018, etc. Click. Then, scroll around and find your favorite(s).

April – Dec, 2018: Do the same thing – OR – type “TPC” in the search box and peruse the findings.

Yes, the lazy man’s way. But, this assures you, the beloved reader, get exactly the “best of” you wanted.

Enjoy. More in 2019.

Clearing the Drafts – Progress

So far I’ve taken out what about half of the stock we had in inventory. Many, I just deleted. Most of what’s left are either notes for something else, works in progress which need full attention, and a few that need further consideration. Accomplishment.

UPDATE: I’ve scheduled a few more to post this weekend.

FP UPDATE: I kind of have the links for the rest of 2018 scheduled. And, I have a Happy 2019 post readied for January. That … may be either the end (or near the end) of FP. Not sure. It’s been fun and profitable but all good things…

TPC UPDATE: We’ve only just begun.

So, this morning I was notified that the site domain has auto-renewed for the next year – a small cost. It occurs to me that, even as traffic has dropped significantly, the number of ads has increased just as dramatically. The mobile site, which I rarely view, is almost unusable. I may, next year, address this.

That means I’ll have to come off more money for WP. I could do this and it would be easy – if the traffic holds or increases. This site has been free since 2012. I know better than to solicit help from you cheapskates. My quandary going forward.

Six and a Half Years of Hard Work Pays Off: Obamacare Invalid

My friends, you are welcome.

Some few will recall the inaugural post, here, was a very simple: “Welcome to the mad ravings of Perrin Lovett! I am proud to present my new blog. Let’s see how it develops. More to come soon!”

The soon, the first substantive post came four days later, on June 28, 2012: The Shared Responsibility TAX: ObamaCare a hit with the Supremes…

Time will certainly cure the injustice done today. In 500 or 1,000 years the Unaffordable TaxCare Act will be but a lousy footnote in history. …

Thanks to my relentless pounding of the issue, it only took 6.5 years. President Trump, via his tax cuts, took the teeth, of which Roberts and Co. lusting so greatly, out of the ACA. Now, a federal judge in Texas has declared the whole law unconstitutional and invalid.

A federal judge in Texas struck down the entire Affordable Care Act on Friday on the grounds that its mandate requiring people to buy health insurance is unconstitutional and the rest of the law cannot stand without it.

The ruling was over a lawsuit filed this year by a group of Republican governors and state attorneys general. A group of intervening states led by Democrats promised to appeal the decision, which will most likely not have any immediate effect. But it will almost certainly make its way to the Supreme Court, threatening the survival of the landmark health law and, with it, health coverage for millions of Americans, protections for people with pre-existing conditions and much more.

In his ruling, Judge Reed O’Connor of the Federal District Court in Fort Worth said that the individual mandate requiring people to have health insurance “can no longer be sustained as an exercise of Congress’s tax power.”

This is the fulfillment of Roberts’s idiotic logic from 2012. If it’s a tax, then it’s only a tax. Take that away and you’re left with nothing. Great.

There will be, maybe already is, an appeal. If it reaches The Nine (again), expect legalistic gymnastics to re-justify the Congressional criminality. However, I fear – I don’t think – it will go that far. While praising the ACA’s demise, The Trump is also calling for a STRONG new law. He’ll probably get one, probably next year, by working with the Dems. They, unlike the idiot party, know how to get things done.

But, if only for today, let’s all celebrate the end of a monstrosity, a pre-existing condition we can all live without.
