As expected, the Christmas slowdown took some of the recent steam out of the lively traffic around here. Still, this month is the best December in at least three years. And 2020, as odd a year as it’s been, has been considerably better than 2019. I owe it all to you, dear readers. Tomorrow, we commence the tenth calendar year of operations around here with our ninth anniversary coming along in June! Next month should be fun and some milestones are not far away beyond it. I need to check, but November of 2020 may be the best traffic month at the blog since 2017 – certainly the best for the past 2.5 years. I believe this is the seventh straight month of steady increase and that coming during the most pitiful of years. Many thanks! As a reward, and if you’re social media-minded, I offer you:

Hello and welcome to our eighth anniversary here at this highly respected web log. The obligatory linking of the original post:

Yes, I was so proud that I did one more entry and then took eight months off, followed by two years of intermittent attention. The stride was found and hit hard in 2015. But, it did develop eventually.

This year has been a little … what’s the word? A little slow. Then again, this is the year that America went utterly insane, right? It’s funny, but January and February (especially January) were strong. Then, the bottom fell out, reaching a low in April and May. With other projects working to one degree or another, with other plans floating around, and with the fiction calling louder every day, there came a brief moment when I considered halting new posts and possibly even scraping the whole thing. But…

I’m still kind of proud of this little corner of the web. Things continue to develop. And, I foresee yet more to come. My outside columns will continue and hopefully I’ll have some major news about that part later in the summer!

Thanks for being along for the ride. More mad ravings dead ahead.

3,000! THREE THOUSAND posts since the blog began back in 2012. I’ve been running a little hard lately. In the near term, I may slow just a hair to concentrate on some projects, but folks, we’re only just warming up, here.

This report came in on Monday:

4 Million words in 20.5 months. That’s a little high – it’s probable that the total accounts for many articles, etc. that were checked at least twice. Still, I’d estimate it’s really more like 2 Million, or roughly 97,500 per month, 3,200 words a day. That’s about right. I average in the top 2-3% of users for volume and for unique words. Mistakes too, as many of you know.

Anyway, this is 3,000. No. 2,999 was about Amazon publishing:

What a year! Previously, when I’ve had the time, I’ve gone through and looked up the most popular or most prominent posts for each of the twelve months of the waning year. No time for that now. (I do think that my favorite would have to do with THE SUBSTITUTE and the turn towards fictional literature). However, you can make your own calls, here. You can simply start pressing the “older posts” or “previous posts” buttons and take a gander through hundreds of submissions. Alternatively, you can look through the index, sidebar left, and select the months for inspection.

Happy anniversary! Six years ago commenced the blogging excellence you know as this “highly respected web log,” http://www.perrinlovett.me.

It started with THIS Simple Post.

Before a months-long hiatus, we visited upon the legal workings of Obamacare. You know, the law the GOP was going to repeal replace amend live with. The more things change…

I must say I’m ready for it to go. It’s generally a down month on the web and this one has been really down. It wasn’t a total collapse in readership but it was close enough.

Usually, when we hit some new milestone, I thank and herald all of you for the success. So this month, with the blame I’ll … just file it away.

The good news is:

It was the second best July ever here (barring some crazy clicking later today);

Bad months invariably are followed by boom months; and

August marks the arrival of the fall season – the very best traffic time of the year.

So, come on August!

And thanks, one and all.

Dodging the Drafts…

I’ve mentioned this before. In the hopper, I have some 60 or so drafts – some of them over four years old (without edits). Some need publishing, some deletion, and some are just notes for me.

Therefore, I figure I’ll use the slow month of July to dig into them. If I can finish one up as I originally intended, I’ll do so. Otherwise I plan to throw up what exists now, here, and then maybe expound at Patreon.

In keeping with tradition, I make no further progress on this today…
