Vox Day advises on what we can hope for at 3 pm:

“I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse.”
-Donald J. Trump

It had better be one of two things.
The God-Emperor is declaring martial law and Draining the Swamp.
The God-Emperor is announcing the Building of the Big Beautiful Wall.

To quote Han Solo, “I have a bad feeling about this.” A more likely announcement is along the lines of the Dallas Morning News op-ed, just as shit stupid as they get, about amnesty for you know who.

And, we wait.

President Trump on Border Security

The following is not a declaration of National Emergency. We have have had an emergency on our hands for several decades now, sans the formal recognition. The following is great rhetoric and hard fact – though nothing we haven’t known for the past, what? 33 years? I am impressed Trump hasn’t caved yet.

Time will tell. And soon.

*******

[Transcript] Oval Office – 9:01 P.M. EST

THE PRESIDENT: My fellow Americans: Tonight, I am speaking to you because there is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border.

Every day, Customs and Border Patrol agents encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying to enter our country. We are out of space to hold them, and we have no way to promptly return them back home to their country.

America proudly welcomes millions of lawful immigrants who enrich our society and contribute to our nation. But all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled, illegal migration. It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages. Among those hardest hit are African Americans and Hispanic Americans.

Our southern border is a pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs, including meth, heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl. Every week, 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone, 90 percent of which floods across from our southern border. More Americans will die from drugs this year than were killed in the entire Vietnam War.

In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records, including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 violent killings. Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country, and thousands more lives will be lost if we don’t act right now.

This is a humanitarian crisis — a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul.

Last month, 20,000 migrant children were illegally brought into the United States — a dramatic increase. These children are used as human pawns by vicious coyotes and ruthless gangs. One in three women are sexually assaulted on the dangerous trek up through Mexico. Women and children are the biggest victims, by far, of our broken system.

This is the tragic reality of illegal immigration on our southern border. This is the cycle of human suffering that I am determined to end.

My administration has presented Congress with a detailed proposal to secure the border and stop the criminal gangs, drug smugglers, and human traffickers. It’s a tremendous problem. Our proposal was developed by law enforcement professionals and border agents at the Department of Homeland Security. These are the resources they have requested to properly perform their mission and keep America safe. In fact, safer than ever before.

The proposal from Homeland Security includes cutting-edge technology for detecting drugs, weapons, illegal contraband, and many other things. We have requested more agents, immigration judges, and bed space to process the sharp rise in unlawful migration fueled by our very strong economy. Our plan also contains an urgent request for humanitarian assistance and medical support.

Furthermore, we have asked Congress to close border security loopholes so that illegal immigrant children can be safely and humanely returned back home.

Finally, as part of an overall approach to border security, law enforcement professionals have requested $5.7 billion for a physical barrier. At the request of Democrats, it will be a steel barrier rather than a concrete wall. This barrier is absolutely critical to border security. It’s also what our professionals at the border want and need. This is just common sense.

The border wall would very quickly pay for itself. The cost of illegal drugs exceeds $500 billion a year — vastly more than the $5.7 billion we have requested from Congress. The wall will also be paid for, indirectly, by the great new trade deal we have made with Mexico.

Senator Chuck Schumer — who you will be hearing from later tonight — has repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past, along with many other Democrats. They changed their mind only after I was elected President.

Democrats in Congress have refused to acknowledge the crisis. And they have refused to provide our brave border agents with the tools they desperately need to protect our families and our nation.

The federal government remains shut down for one reason and one reason only: because Democrats will not fund border security.
My administration is doing everything in our power to help those impacted by the situation. But the only solution is for Democrats to pass a spending bill that defends our borders and re-opens the government.

This situation could be solved in a 45-minute meeting. I have invited Congressional leadership to the White House tomorrow to get this done. Hopefully, we can rise above partisan politics in order to support national security.

Some have suggested a barrier is immoral. Then why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences, and gates around their homes? They don’t build walls because they hate the people on the outside, but because they love the people on the inside. The only thing that is immoral is the politicians to do nothing and continue to allow more innocent people to be so horribly victimized.

America’s heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien, who just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country.

Day after day, precious lives are cut short by those who have violated our borders. In California, an Air Force veteran was raped, murdered, and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien with a long criminal history. In Georgia, an illegal alien was recently charged with murder for killing, beheading, and dismembering his neighbor. In Maryland, MS-13 gang members who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors were arrested and charged last year after viciously stabbing and beating a 16-year-old girl.

Over the last several years, I’ve met with dozens of families whose loved ones were stolen by illegal immigration. I’ve held the hands of the weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers. So sad. So terrible. I will never forget the pain in their eyes, the tremble in their voices, and the sadness gripping their souls.

How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?

To those who refuse to compromise in the name of border security, I would ask: Imagine if it was your child, your husband, or your wife whose life was so cruelly shattered and totally broken?
To every member of Congress: Pass a bill that ends this crisis.
To every citizen: Call Congress and tell them to finally, after all of these decades, secure our border.

This is a choice between right and wrong, justice and injustice. This is about whether we fulfill our sacred duty to the American citizens we serve.

When I took the Oath of Office, I swore to protect our country. And that is what I will always do, so help me God.
Thank you and goodnight.

Vladimir Putin again attempts friendship with Trump and the rest of the West:

Russian President Vladimir Putin told his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in a New Year letter on Sunday that Moscow was ready for dialogue on a “wide-ranging agenda”, the Kremlin said following a series of failed attempts to hold a new summit.

…

“Vladimir Putin stressed that the (Russia – United States) relations are the most important factor for providing strategic stability and international security,” a Kremlin statement said.

“He confirmed that Russia is open for dialogue with the USA on the most wide-ranging agenda.”

Moscow has said one of the key issues it wanted to discuss with the United States is Washington’s plans to withdraw from a Cold War era nuclear arms pact.

The man is an eternal optimist. Let’s pray Trump answers in kind.

About this time, during the early days of the last recession, the fraudsters-in-charge told us the economy and the banks had never been stronger. Then the bottom fell out. You might recall.

They would likely repeat the lies but for the machinations of an orange-haired bragger from their own town.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s Treasury secretary called top U.S. bankers on Sunday amid an ongoing rout on Wall Street and made plans to convene a group of officials known as the “Plunge Protection Team.”

…

The Treasury said in a statement that Mnuchin talked with the chief executives of Bank of America (BAC.N), Citi (C.N), Goldman Sachs (GS.N), JP Morgan Chase (JPM.N), Morgan Stanley (MS.N) and Wells Fargo (WFC.N).

“The CEOs confirmed that they have ample liquidity available for lending,” the Treasury said.

Mnuchin “also confirmed that they have not experienced any clearance or margin issues and that the markets continue to function properly,” the Treasury said.

By the time they notice these things or admit them, it’s already too late. At least they’re on record this time.

UPDATE: If you want to really overanalyze this on a Christmas Eve, then look at Option 3.

Ann Coulter’s bet is still out there waiting for a taker: will Trump cave on the budget and the wall (again)? It certainly looks like it.

The White House suggested Tuesday that President Donald Trump could back down from his demand for $5 billion to fund his proposed border wall in a year-end spending bill.

Trump’s push for the money has threatened a partial government shutdown when funding for seven agencies lapses after midnight Friday. Last week, the president said he would be “proud” to close parts of the government over border security.

“We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion that we’ll work with Congress,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News on Tuesday morning. She added that the Trump administration could support $1.6 billion in border security funding proposed by Senate Democrats, as long as it can “couple that with other funding resources” to get to $5 billion.

We wait. And, even if there is a partial shutdown, those “essential” personnel will still keep working. One wonders if the ATF is essential because the agents will be needed ASAP to enforce Trump’s ban on bump stocks.

The Trump administration moved Tuesday to officially ban bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire rapidly like automatic firearms, and has made them illegal to possess beginning in late March.

The devices will be banned under a federal law that prohibits machine guns, according to a senior Justice Department official.

I feel a little foolish, now, about running those pro-Trump 2A articles at FP a few years ago.

No border security, no deportations, no repelling actual invasion, no sound budgeting, and no respect for the Second Amendment. Thank you, queen Hillary.

This new regulation is, of course, unconstitutional. But, it will stand – Ivanka’s tears can reach the Supreme Court if needed.

Be mindful that the same regulatory logic, under different laws, could be used – in one stroke of the Presidential pen – to ban aliens, gun control, and debt. All debt-holders must either destroy their debt instruments or else turn them into the Treasury for immediate destruction. All debt is now illegal. It’ll not happen though it could.

Conservative friends, the old Trump Train can’t make it far from the station if the tracks are destroyed.

Ann Coulter Recites ‘Humpty Trumpty’

Humpty Trumpty sat on The Wall,

…

Humpty’s America had a great fall.

MAGA, and all that! The ever-delightfull Ms. Coulter takes a hard look at some patterns forming in the West Wing. It ain’t pretty (Visit Taki, BTW).

Within 10 seconds of Trump’s leaving office, there will be no evidence that he was ever president. Laws will be changed, executive orders rescinded, treaties re-written and courts packed.

Trump will leave no legacy at all. Only a wall is forever.

We had no choice. No one else was promising to save America.

“On day one, we will begin working on an impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful southern border wall. We will use the best technology, including above- and below-ground sensors, that’s the tunnels. Remember that: above and below. Towers, aerial surveillance and manpower to supplement the wall, find and dislocate tunnels and keep out criminal cartels …”

— Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump

But then he signed a spending bill expressly prohibiting him from building any part of the wall.

“I will never sign another bill like this again. I’m not going to do it again.”

— President Trump, after signing a spending bill that blocked any funding for a wall.

Today, eight months later, Trump is about to sign another spending bill that will give him no money for the wall.

Anyone want to bet me that he won’t?

Not I.

If America can’t or won’t resist open invasion, then what’s the point? Why bother having any notion of a country?

Hope remains. Perhaps Trump read all this on his working trip to Argentina. Maybe he honed in on the building of the wall inside Mexico. That’s so brilliant, I wish I had thought of it. A.C. deserves her fame.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a nursery rhyme to rewrite.

One hopes so, regardless of what the fake Mueller “Russia, Russia, Russia” investigation reveals:

Alan Dershowitz, a frequent defender of President Donald Trump, said special counsel Robert Mueller’s report will be “devastating” for the president.

The Harvard Law professor emeritus told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos that he believes the president will have to navigate the political impact of a potentially damning final report from the special counsel.

“I think the report is going to be devastating to the president and I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report,” Dershowitz said on “This Week” Sunday.

Dershowitz added that he believes the report, although it will have a strong political impact, is unlikely to result in criminal charges.

In fact, the report, devastating or not, may be a good thing; it may provide a convenient list (should anyone in power want one) of enemy combatant candidates. It’ll probably make for some funny Tweets too. Bring it.

Since they’re in MEX, why can’t MEX arrest and deport them?

Incoming Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will work with the Trump administration to keep asylum seekers out of the U.S. while their applications are pending in court, according to a Mexican official with knowledge of the talks.

The tentative agreement is a departure from current U.S. procedure, which allows those seeking asylum to remain in the U.S. until their case is reviewed by an immigration judge. U.S. and Mexican officials have been secretly negotiating for the past two months, the official said, and are nearing a final deal.

One wonders when a wayward EC federal judge will order MEX to drive them across the border anyway.

None of them are eligible for asylum. None of them can be American. All of them are a threat. Take the gloves off, Mr. Trump.

Vox and his readers pondered the potential limitations of the Posse Comitatus Act regarding military repulsion of the invading hordes. In my expert opinion, there are none.

As a reader noted, yes, the NDAA’s and other laws have taken what teeth there were out of the PCA. And, even intact, it doesn’t apply here. The sole purpose of the US military is to defend America, particularly from outright and open invasion. The PCA is a criminal statute, unchanged and never prosecuted (even once) since its inception in 1878. So, Mr. Trump, use the army, use all necessary to secure our borders. Then drive out the existing hosts and their rabid supporters (to include meddling federal judges) herein.

This, here and at VP, is the thought simply prohibited at the circus of social media (the new mental concentration camps). Forego the stupidity.
