Dispense with the Neocons

neocons, Vox Day

Vox Day and Bernie Sanders agree on this:

Democrats take on the neocons

The Republicans and the Trump administration would be very well-advised to do the same:

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders took a swipe at neoconservative Bill Kristol for his “foolish advocacy of the Iraq war,” and questioned whether he had apologized to the country for it yet. Sanders was responding to a tweet Kristol sent that said, “#Never Sanders,” and linked to a New York Times article about the longtime Vermont senator’s opposition to war.

“Have you apologized to the nation for your foolish advocacy of the Iraq war?” Sanders tweeted, adding he makes “no apologies for opposing it.”

Neocons like Bill Kristol, Max Boot, and Ben Shapiro are worse – much worse – and more fundamentally radical than even the most left-wing lunatics the Democratic Party has to offer.

I concur.

Iran, neocons, shit stupid, War

… only to be shot dead by Bolton, et al. Trump says he isn’t fully behind this idea. Maybe he made a few bad appointments?

At the direction of national security adviser John Bolton, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan last week presented top White House national security officials with a plan to send up to 120,000 troops to the Middle East in the event that Iran “attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons,” the New York Times reports.

Details: The plan was reportedly presented during a meeting about the Trump administration’s broader Iran policy, attended — among others — by Bolton, CIA director Gina Haspel, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats. It’s unclear if President Trump has been briefed on the details of the plan, which did not call for a land invasion of Iran, but requested a similar number of troops involved the U.S.’ 2003 invasion of Iraq, per the Times.

The big picture: Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been warning of an unspecified “escalating threat” from Iran in recent weeks, after receiving intelligence from Israel about a possible Iranian plot to attack U.S. interests in the region. Trump told reporters today that he’d been “hearing little stories about Iran,” adding: “If they do anything, they will suffer greatly.”

Oil tankers. Oil pipes. Drones. One-missile (non)threats. Carrier groups. B-52s. Little stories. Baseless, idiotic propaganda and unspecified yellowcake … (wait, was that the last one?): this thing with Iran is heating up. Maybe it’s all a Twitter hoax.

If not, then there could be great suffering.

Ron Paul on Trump, Venezuela, and the Deep, Crazy State

I haven’t covered much by Dr.Paul lately – my fault. He’s still out there and still demonstrating what a mistake it was not to elect him in 2008.

Is President Trump about to invade Venezuela? His advisors keep telling us in ever-stronger terms that “all options are on the table” and that US military intervention to restore Venezuela’s constitution “may be necessary.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on the Sunday news programs to claim that President Trump could launch a military attack against Venezuela without Congress’s approval.

Pompeo said that, “[t]he president has his full range of Article II authorities and I’m very confident that any action we took in Venezuela would be lawful.” The man who bragged recently about his lying, cheating, and stealing, is giving plenty of evidence to back his claim.

The president has no Constitutional authority to start a war with Venezuela or any other country that has not attacked or credibly threatened the United States without Congressional approval. It is that simple.

How ironic that Pompeo and the rest of the neocons in the Trump Administration are ready to attack Venezuela to “restore their constitution” but they could not care less about our own Constitution!

While Washington has been paralyzed for two years over disproven claims that the Russians meddled in our elections to elect Trump, how hypocritical that Washington does not even hesitate to endorse the actual overturning of elections overseas!

The nuts will happily settle for Iran if Venezuela isn’t available.

The neocons Trump administration dispatched an aircraft carrier to Iran…

The United States is deploying an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Middle East on short notice in response to “clear indications” Iran and Iranian proxies were planning an attack on U.S. forces in the region, a U.S. official said.

Late Sunday night, the White House made a surprise announcement that the USS Abraham Lincoln and a bomber task force were being deployed in response to unspecified “troubling and escalatory indications and warnings.”

A statement from National Security Adviser John Bolton said the deployments were intended “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”

“The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or regular Iranian forces,” the statement continued.

Clear indications from whom? Oh, of course.

Israel passed information on an alleged Iranian plot to attack U.S. interests in the Gulf to the U.S. before national security adviser John Bolton threatened Iran with “unrelenting force” last night, senior Israeli officials told me.

Why it matters: Bolton’s unusual and aggressive statement included news that the U.S. would move an aircraft carrier to the region. The officials said intelligence gathered by Israel, primarily by the Mossad intelligence agency, is understood to be part of the reason for Bolton’s announcement.

Behind the scenes: Information about possible Iranian plots against the U.S. or its allies in the Gulf were raised two weeks ago in talks held at the White House between an Israeli delegation headed by national security adviser Meir Ben Shabbat and a U.S. team led by Bolton, the Israeli officials told me.

  • The intelligence about a possible Iranian plot is not very specific at this stage, but the officials said it was clear the threat was against a U.S. target in the Gulf or U.S. allies like Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

Does this not smell a little like yellowcake?

Yo, G! Straight up. Pompeo. Word! Bolton.

A rapper might be able to come up with better ideas than the neocons about what to do with Venezuela. Last week, on the morning of the big “coup,” I talked to a sweet woman from VEN. She was naturally worried about her elderly parents in Caracas. I pondered whether the regime would assassinate Guaido.

In the aftermath of a faltering opposition uprising in Venezuela, the Trump administration is looking at imposing new individual sanctions against the Maduro government and also scrambling for ideas that can have a greater impact on the ground, including military options.

The White House is calling for relevant departments to produce more options for the president to consider on Venezuela. The National Security Council is pushing the Defense Department for military ideas and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is seeking ways to entice Russia to pull away from Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Current and former officials recognize there are not many more options other than military action or some type of internal revolt.

“It’s more sanctions, military or straight up Venezuela flipping,” said a senior administration official on condition of anonymity. “And that’s a problem. All they have to do is delay, delay, delay and they’re still in power.”

Pompeo, National Security Advisor John Bolton, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and Navy Adm. Craig Faller, commander of U.S. Southern Command, met Friday morning and discussed different options to increase pressure on the Maduro government, including military participation.

I’m not as worried now. Notice that Maduro hasn’t even threatened to arrest the US’s “legitimate” choice as president. I suspect that’s because the regime views him (and his neocon nut backers) as harmless objects of fun. That’s how low US foreign “policy” has fallen – Washington levels a gun at someone and all they do in response is laugh.

And, what of these options? Is one of them to simply leave it the hell alone? Or, how about just offering whoever is in charge that we will just keep buying the oil at market prices? Probably not.

This is a repeat of Syria. Russia, with a handful of troops and one or two ships, has checked US imperial aggression. Next, they’ll likely offer VEN a way out of depression via a switch to BRIC’s monetary policy and advice on tapering off the Bernie-esque domestic socialism. Then, they might offer a better internet alternative.

The options cons may well abandon that plan and move on. People of Nicaragua, watch out.

War with Iran. Just What We Need…

Another war we can never win.

When Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the Trump administration would designate a branch of Iran’s military as a foreign terrorist organization Monday, he said, “The Trump administration is simply recognizing a basic reality.”

But critics say they are concerned that it may also be part of an effort to bend reality enough to provide legal justification for armed conflict with Iran.

“I am troubled that the administration can’t unequivocally say that you haven’t been given power. I can tell you explicitly, you have not been given power or authority by Congress to have war with Iran,” Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Pompeo on Wednesday.

At this point, who can possibly trust any neocons? Unless it never begins, this won’t end well.

It’s not just for the amusement park anymore. Not-so-amusingly, it again takes a spin at the White House. H.R. “War with Russia” McMaster is out as NSA and John “War with Anyone” Bolton is in. I’m sure your confidence is as inspired as mine. Not even going to attempt devil’s advocacy here and now.

On a very tangential note, I watched a moment or two of Tucker Carlson tonight. He lamented the new fascism coming from places like the socials and the banks. That is real if limited. So, what’s to be done? Plenty. There are personal and legal routes, sure to be tried by a few.

But, with all these neocon nuts floating around (like Love Bugs on a windshield, no?), I thought: hey, they all love the enemy combatant approach! Why not declare all the corporate tyrants, who subvert democracy in the name of profit and feels, as enemies of America? In a way, they really are. The answer, from the Cons, is that they love that dreadful idea so long as it gets applied to brown people in the sandier regions. They’re probably not to keen on using it against their wealthy friends.

Anyway, just a few thoughts. Maybe more than was prudent this late. Out.

America, England, neocons, Nikki Haley, Russia, shut up!, Un

Earlier today I wrote, in a blurb for FP News about the GB-Russia Row: “The US will side with Britain. How that affects US-Russian relations is yet to be seen.” Can’t link to it just yet as its scheduled for tomorrow morning, 6 AM I think. (Cause I’m always a day ahead!) Anyway, I was right.

Nutty Nikki Haley jumps to conclusions about foreign affairs that really don’t concern us faster than she tears down a Confederate flag.

New York City could be the next site of a chemical assassination attempt if world leaders fail to punish Russia for its alleged role in poising of a former spy in the United Kingdom, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned Wednesday.

“If we don’t take immediate concrete measures to address this now, Salisbury will not be the last place we see chemical weapons used,” Haley told the United Nations Security Council. “They could be used here in New York, or in cities of any country that sits on this Council. This is a defining moment.”

Yes. Immediate concrete measures – right up against that Russian veto. A defining moment, defining the meddling stupidity of the neocons.

Strange, but Haley failed to produce any evidence whatsoever of Russian involvement in the London deaths. I suppose allegations are sufficient. And I would suppose someone who’s boss has been accused of Russia pandering, without any proof, would think twice before jumping on the same sort of bandwagon. I would suppose that she so thinks; I won’t knowing that she doesn’t.

Mr. President, while you’re firing people!
