More Obama/TrumpCare Goodie$ Coming in 2018!

Another year, another round of massive price increases.

Millions of people who buy individual health insurance policies and get no financial help from the Affordable Care Act are bracing for another year of double-digit premium increases, and their frustration is boiling over.

Some are expecting premiums for 2018 to rival a mortgage payment.

What they pay is tied to the price of coverage on the health insurance markets created by the Obama-era law, but these consumers get no protection from the law’s tax credits, which cushion against rising premiums. Instead they pay full freight and bear the brunt of market problems such as high costs and diminished competition.

On Capitol Hill, there’s a chance that upcoming bipartisan hearings by Sens. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Patty Murray, D-Wash., can produce legislation offering some relief. But it depends on Republicans and Democrats working together despite a seven-year health care battle that has left raw feelings on both sides.

The most exposed consumers tend to be middle-class people who don’t qualify for the law’s income-based subsidies. They include early retirees, skilled tradespeople, musicians, self-employed professionals, business owners, and people such as Sharon Thornton, whose small employer doesn’t provide health insurance.

Insurance premiums to rival mortgages. Thank God we have dedicated servants like Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan fighting hard for the banks and insurers us. They will surely fix this. And soon. Hold your breath.

Eric Peters on Avoiding Harvey-Flooded Autos

cars, Eric Peters, Hurricane Harvey, Texas

They’re coming – and not around Texas. In a few months many of these doomed cars will start appearing at used car lots nationwide. Harvey has destroyed an estimated 500,000 cars in Houston alone and damaged maybe a million more.

On a positive side note, these cars will have to be replaced. Harvey may, just may, save the automotive industry or, at least, prolong its decline for perhaps a season or a year.

Peters has the lowdown on sedans-turned-submarines and how to avoid owning one:

The cars – many of them brand-new – are declared total losses and the dealership gets compensated by the insurance company. The cars ought to be recycled at this point – or parted out (some parts are still perfectly usable). But because it is not hard – for the expert crooked car seller – to pull out the carpet, dry the obvious things, clean the car up and then (critical) efface any mention of “salvage” or “flood damage” from the car’s title/vehicle history report – and then sell the seemingly near-new/low-miles car far, far away from the source of its swim, he does exactly that.

And this is a ride you do not want to take.

An Extreme Challenge

damn..., Ivan Throne, pepper spray challenge

More extreme than the ice bucket. Ivan Throne does the Pepper Spray Challenge. It’s like the ice but it’s pepper spray. In the eyes. While continuing to do squats.

Yeah.

Before you click any further – don’t try this at home! Unless you want to or need to … anyway:

Dark Triad Man.

I’ll say it again: Do not mess with the Dark Triad Man.

This is actually pretty good training if you’re going to the front lines against the antifa communists. They regularly deploy the spray in their pursuit of peace and harmony. Wonder if Soros pay for it too? I would say avoid places where they or other protesting zombie groups might congregate but, then again, I avoid almost all places unless they sell cigars and/or booze.

Yes, I took the challenge myself – doing deadlifts. Funny thing was the camera wasn’t working. Odd, that. Oh heck…

I will regale you with a similar funny story. Once I dined at an Indian restaurant. They must have been a little short-staffed as the owner herself took our order. I got something curry. We’ll say it was chicken. (Always say chicken).

She asked sweetly: “How would you like that?”

Me: “Hot!”

Her, again sweetly: “Your hot? Or OUR hot?”

Me: “Your hot.”

I ate it. It was THEIR hot. And it was darned good though the after effects lasted for a week maybe.

If you feel compelled to try the challenge at home and under the given hypothetical circumstances, then I might offer an alternative exercise. Maybe start with weights or something. Then get sprayed. Then immediately drop the bar and practice close-quarters, close-retention, fast draws with rapid antifa communist ventilation.

The capsaicin should help eliminate the urge to aim, which you shouldn’t do in these drills anyway. Just point and click, rapidly and repeatedly. Then go have “their hot” at the local Indian/Thai/Vietnamese place. Odds are you won’t even notice.

And, yes, I am getting around to the massacre on 129 – sooner or later. Probably later.

A Good Time to Make Use of National Unity?

America, crisis, Hurricane Harvey, Pat Buchanan, Texas, unity

Pat Buchanan thinks so:

Like 9/11, Hurricane Harvey brought us together.

In awe at the destruction 50 inches of rain did to East Texas and our fourth-largest city and in admiration as cable television showed countless hours of Texans humanely and heroically rescuing and aiding fellow Texans in the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.

On display this week was America at her best.

Yet the destruction will not soon be repaired. Nearly a third of Harris County, home to 4.5 million people, was flooded. Beaumont and Port Arthur were swamped with 2 feet of rain and put underwater.

Estimates of the initial cost to the Treasury are north of $100 billion, with some saying the down payment alone will be closer to $200 billion. In inflation-adjusted dollars, the cost of Harvey will exceed that of the Marshall Plan, which rebuilt Europe after World War II.

Though the country has appeared united since the storm hit, it is not likely to remain so. …

No, it won’t last. In fact, as one team of overweight, low-IQ felons after another take the field today, the Harvey effect begins to fade. After tomorrow’s Day of Prayer (which will surely gripe some in and of itself) the unity may be over.

As for tending to our own house – there’s still a fortune for some to make meddling overseas, the consequences be damned.

Still, it has been nice, this week, to see so many come together. It’s sad that it takes a disaster to do it.

Is it that bad?! Read and see. Always read Taki.
