≈ Comments Off on BOOK REVIEW: THE THORN AND THE CARNATION by Martyr Yahya Al-Sinwar
Review by Perrin Lovett
This review concerns a novel that I became aware of during the Palestinian Genocide (2023—). It took a while before I found a seemingly trustworthy English translation. As with all Palestine-related books I have read over the past few years, this one commands respect. It dramatically narrates a horrible episode of shameful history and it does so through an incredible and gripping story.
(2024 English translation covers.)
*Sinwar, Yahya, The Thorn and the Carnation, Algiers: TASQ, 2004 (English translation, 2024).
Yahya Sinwar was the fourth leader of the Hamas political party in Palestine and Hamas’s resistance leader in Gaza. During the Palestinian Genocide, he was murdered by “Israeli” Occupation forces on October 16, 2024. Perhaps already mortally wounded, he rested quietly in a chair in a bombed-out apartment. When approached by an Occupation drone, he greeted it with a cold look and a thrown stick. So was born “Sinwar’s Stick,” a neological proverb for sumud defiance against all odds, without surrender even at the end. Sinwar lived the spirit of his posthumous eponymous maxim his entire adult life. He wrote The Thorn and the Carnation while in a Zionist prison.
The book has been called autobiographical or semi-autobiographical. It has also been described as a collection of thematic stories. I call it reality-informed historical fiction—drama tinged with action, romance, and suspense. Reading it, one may have difficulty separating the author from his characters. In this case, such conflation adds rather than detracts or distracts. Your reviewer also kept comparing the flowing story in the book to the ongoing saga in Palestine. I had a similar experience while reading and reviewing Yarwa Hawari’s The Stone House, another excellent dramatization. These stories are, of course, part of the moving history of West Asia; as even the publisher notes in a Goodreads summary:
The Thorn and the Carnation serves as a clarion call to comprehend the Palestinian reality—a narrative penned by those who refuse to be silenced, speaking directly to the heart of the global community. It is a narrative of resistance, of profound cultural identity, and an unyielding quest for freedom and justice, echoed in the authentic voices of its characters.
The entire tale is extraordinarily well-written, a feature that shines through translation. And it is compelling both of its own accord and because it was written by an author who provided the authenticity of an expert, a witness, and a participant. The story begins in 1967 during the “Setback” and runs until the turn of the century. The plot is largely narrated through the eyes of Ahmad, a boy who grows into a man as fictional time progresses. Sinwar went to great lengths to build a convincing world for Ahmad, his brother, Mahmoud, the rest of their family, friends, conspirators, enemies, and historical figures.
So much of the story reminds me of everything I’ve read and learned about Palestinian life: the heroic optimism, dedication to family, faith, and tradition, and all. Sinwar successfully weaves all elements together in a way that showcases local life, the ordinary and the unusual, all while furthering the plot and its theme, resistance. This is summarized in chapter twenty, concerning the evolution of the Palestinian cause during the 1980s: “He envisioned the rebellion turning into a constant state of resistance, becoming the main focus of Palestinian life, with all other aspects, including education, work, and health, adapting to support this central goal until the occupation is defeated.”
Several aspects of this vision, in the book, and as I’ve observed during the literal conflict, jump out at me: there appears to be an unconquerable spirit within Palestinians grounded heavily in their faith, centered in family life, empowered by education, and propelled by constantly doing what has to be done. That theme and spirited dedication should inspire the entire world (even those few Americans still possessed of faith, wits, and muscle). The story ends with another of those localized tragedies that Palestinians perpetually turn into triumphs. Twenty years after that fictional ending, the genuine story of Palestine—Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond—still defies the odds, ever pressing onward towards victory.
I highly recommend and laud The Thorn and the Carnation. It is yet another excellent volume for any Palestine-centric library and a worthy tome of general literature. Please consult Goodreads for obtainment options.

According to the satanic filth Mike Cuckabee, a Palestinian state is not in the cards.
A Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank is no longer a US policy goal, but Israel’s “Muslim neighbours” could give up their land to create one, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told Bloomberg news on Tuesday.
“Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there’s no room for it,” Huckabee, an appointee of US President Donald Trump and longtime advocate of settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, said when asked about a Palestinian state.
The real policy of the yankee empire is the same as “Israel’s”: genocide. Chris Hedges takes a bleak look at the situation on the ground.
We — full participants in this genocide — will have achieved our demented goal of emptying Gaza and expanding Greater Israel. We will bring down the curtain on the live-streamed genocide. We will have mocked the ubiquitous university programs of Holocaust studies, designed, it turns out, not to equip us to end genocides, but deify Israel as an eternal victim licensed to carry out mass slaughter. The mantra of never again is a joke. The understanding that when we have the capacity to halt genocide and we do not, we are culpable, does not apply to us. Genocide is public policy. Endorsed and sustained by our two ruling parties.
History will relegate both “Israel” and the Satanic States of Murika to the ranks of the most evil nations that ever existed.

≈ Comments Off on It’s Always 1984 in the GAE
If Trump can successfully and gracefully lose WWIII to Russia and China, then maybe his next trick should be to de-Zionize the GAE homeland. Giraldi is always on it:
In my humble opinion Israel should be treated as an enemy or at a minimum as a state that is dangerous to have any association with. That is because it uses its immense power inside the United States establishment as well as with many other nations in Europe, Oceania and North America to incite for wars that bring no benefit to any country that allows them to influence or distort policy. The ongoing attempts by Israel to entice the United States into a war with Iran is only one example of what goes on and there are reports that US bombers have been taking up position in the Persian Gulf for a possible attack. And there are always the unspeakable things about Israel and how it does things. The Palestinian extermination is based on a perception among many Israeli Jews that both Christian and Muslim neighbors are not only “terrorists”, they are subhuman and fit only to work as slaves of Jews or to flee the country or die. Prominent St. Louis rabbi Jeffrey Abraham recently wrote that there are “no ‘innocent civilians’ in Gaza,” and endorsed the belief that Palestinians are “animals.” The lack of any discomfort in the local Jewish community demonstrates how widely accepted these views are. And, one might add, even American presidents are little more that ignorant goyim to be used and discarded or even subtly threatened. On Netanyahu’s recent visit to the White House, he presented Trump with a mounted Golden Pager, reminiscent perhaps of the exploding pagers used recently by Israel in Lebanon to kill and maim at random Lebanese civilians. It was a sick joke or perhaps even intended as a warning and it clearly was the product of the twisted mind of Netanyahu.
If they damned yankees will step aside, the Resistance and the rest of the world will have little trouble salvaging Palestine. Wang Yi states the obvious:
China has expressed its support for the Gaza reconstruction plan initiated by Egypt and backed by other Arab countries, saying the enclave belongs to the Palestinian people.
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. It is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference on Friday. “Changing its status by forceful means will not bring about peace, but only new chaos.”
In the meanwhile, Trump’s 1984 act rolls on. And Columbia must have done something else to be so singled out.
The US House Committee on Education and the Workforce demanded in February that Columbia University submit disciplinary records by the end of this month for students involved in anti-“Israel” protests between April and January 2024, criticizing the Ivy League institution’s handling of the matter.
The House panel sent a six-page letter to Columbia University’s leadership on February 13, stating that the institution had failed to fulfill its promise to students, faculty, and Congress to address “anti-Semitism,” asserting that “Columbia’s ongoing failure to confront the widespread anti-Semitism on campus is unacceptable, especially given the university receives billions in federal funding.”
The university’s newly established Office of Institutional Equity launched multiple investigations to track down students who voiced their opposition to “Israel”, according to the Associated Press.
Columbia sent notices to dozens of students for activities ranging from sharing pro-Palestinian social media posts to taking part in protests that the school considers “unauthorized,” while the creation of the “disciplinary office” sparked concerns among students, faculty members, and free speech advocates who said Columbia caved in to Trump’s pressure.

Costantino Ceoldo posted a Q&A with Alireza Nikam about Iran, Syria, the West Asian geopolitical sphere, and more. They delve into the present and future of Palestine too:
5) What will become of the Palestinian people?
A) The people of Palestine have proven over the past century to be among the most resilient people. They have emerged steadfastly from the numerous genocides committed by Israel and have continued their struggle without faltering. The destiny of the Palestinian people is defined by their fight, resistance, and steadfastness against occupation and oppression. The Axis of Resistance has always believed that the liberation of Palestine is a religious, humanitarian, and strategic duty that must be pursued through various political, military, and cultural means. Palestinian resistance groups such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other fighting forces have strengthened their military capabilities with the support of the Axis of Resistance. Armed resistance remains the primary strategy to counter the aggressions of the Zionist regime and establish deterrence, that is a reality well understood by the Palestinian people. In the ongoing war in Gaza, the Zionists demanded that the people of Gaza hand over Hamas fighters to end the attacks on civilians. However, not only did the people refuse to betray anyone, but the number of individuals joining Hamas has grown daily. The Palestinian people have learned that resistance is better than humiliation in the face of the enemy, and they consistently prioritize this principle in their actions. With God’s help, the people of Palestine, through the heavy blows they have dealt to the Zionists and their unwavering resistance, will ultimately bring their enemy to its knees.
I have not given up completely on the Murikan people, though I might get to that point sooner than later. They, especially the myopic 17th century hedge fund time travelers of the South, have a difficult time relating to anything or anyone they are not. Even if they might, or especially if they might benefit from a little comparison. Syria, for example, is offering a real-time look at Yugoslavian style Balkanization with wild mayhem and violence, things Murikans might want to acquaint themselves with. Maybe they’ll get to that after Trumpstein and his crew of foreigners, zionists, and deviants make Murika furst agin’ or something.

The “Israel-Hamas” peace conference in Qatar strikes me as another iteration of Lil’ Ze’s Swiss talks with Russia. As Russia wasn’t invited, the thing was bound to fail from the start and was likely just another delay tactic. In Doha, one couldn’t expect Hamas to be present when “Israel” murdered the party’s chief negotiator. Outside of Bibi’s bunker and maybe DC, few are buying the ruse.
“Israel” has thwarted the Doha negotiations regarding a ceasefire in Gaza and the efforts of mediators, said Ghazi Hamad, a member of the Hamas political bureau in the Gaza Strip, adding that none of the disputed issues have been settled during the talks.
In an interview for Al Mayadeen on Friday, Hamad made it clear that no agreement can be reached without a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, the return of displaced people, and the completion of a prisoner exchange deal.
He affirmed that Hamas’ stance is strong and unwavering and enjoys the full backing of Palestinian factions, adding, “We will no longer engage in futile negotiations.”
Press TV coverage:
Earlier in the day, the United States, Qatar and Egypt issued a joint statement saying they held Gaza ceasefire talks in a positive atmosphere in the Qatari capital Doha. They added that the talks were “serious, and constructive.”
The mediators put forward a “bridging proposal” that would allow the “swift” implementation of a deal that would end the war in Gaza and see the release of Israeli captives, the joint statement said.
The mediating trio claimed that their proposal “narrows the gaps between the parties,” referring to the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the Israeli regime.
The US could have been more serious and constructive about building bridges, etc. if it had refrained from arming the zionists and, thus, aiding and abetting their genocide. But that’s not how things are done. And none of this has anything directly to do with the pending responses of Hezbollah and Iran.
Developing, maybe deceptively and delayed, but developing…

Little trouble in big China. Hamas, Fatah, and others forge a new Palestinian reality.
Palestinian factions met in Beijing, China to discuss efforts to end national division and launch a process for reconciliation between major political parties.
The meetings saw the participation of 14 Palestinian factions, including Fatah, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Al Mayadeen obtained a copy of the Beijing Declaration in which the participants promised to “end the Palestinian national division,” and to “unify national efforts to confront the [Israeli] aggression and stop the genocide.”
According to a document obtained by Al Mayadeen, Palestinian factions will monitor the implementation of the agreement’s clauses “with the help of Egypt, Algeria, China, and Russia.”
The declaration also stresses a “commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital,” which will be implemented per international resolutions 181 and 2334.
It also underlined the Palestinian people’s right to resist occupation and to end it in accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, and the right of all peoples to self-determination.
“Al-Quds” is Arabic for Jerusalem. This is huge and upsets the last applecart of the Zio-GAE axis of satantry as it afflicts Palestine. Again, this is going to be a very bad decade for your “Christian” zionist idiot pagan friend – who is not your friend. But it’s encouraging news for the civilized world.
Those of you in the, I don’t know, the American South, just for a moment, imagine replacing the 14 Palestinian factions with representatives from the original CSA States and replacing Jerusalem with Richmond or some other Southern city. Just imagine if you’d have had a little forward-looki… Oh, wait! My “bad”. None of this matters from the sunny security of 1607. Never mind, and do ignore your portion of the additional 461,612 heritage ‘Muricans vanished in 2023* … because it’s, of course, 1607. Duh!
*Fewer crackers in the box. 3,125,000 gone in the last 8 years (estimated loss through 2024: 3.5 M+). Slip sliding away. Maybe it’s for the best.

This week, being a little pressed for time, I’m just listing out the Palestine-related books I’ve reviewed this year – with a few more.
The Other Side of the Wall: A Palestinian Christian Narrative of Lament and Hope by Rev. Munther Isaac
Normalize or Resist?: Palestinian Christians Respond to Oppression by Rev. Isaac, et al.
Deluge: Gaza and Israel from Crisis to Cataclysm by Jamie Stern-Weiner, et al.
The Rape of Palestine: A Mandate Chronology (Vol. 1) by Blake Alcott
The Rape of Palestine: A Mandate Chronology (Vol. 2) by Blake Alcott
The Stone House by Yara Hawari
I have not read or looked at this picture book, but it comes highly recommended:
Against Erasure: A Photographic Memory of Palestine Before the Nakba by Teresa Aranguren, et al.
It has been some time since I’ve read it, and, alarmingly, no longer have my copy, but a good man from Georgia wrote a great book in 2007 on the subject of peace:
Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid by Hon. Jimmy Carter
The first book I read about Palestine, likely the first book any one of you read, was: The Holy Bible. Consult it as needed – and it is needed.
Those nine books should keep one busy for a while. For my part, I’ve currently got a copy of collected E.A. Poe works (на русском). Also, Andrei Martyanov’s new book, America’s Final War, is out, as a PDF from Clarity. My next book review article, here and elsewhere, will most likely be a cursory look at five(!) works by Professor Alexander Dugin, along with at least one Dugin critique comparison book. That’s coming before too long. And we’ll also have some additional geopolitical fun and perhaps a few short stories. Fiction writing is kind of where my mind is at right now. Stay tuned.
A rather short “column,” eh? And if your bow tie was ruffled, then good.
Deo vindice.

≈ Comments Off on Homeschooling Under Genocide: Teaching In Tents
I have previously written about the zionist entity’s sub war on Palestinian education. Yet even as the zionists have bombed practically all schools and colleges in Gaza, and even as no children there have been formally educated in over six months, the learning cannot be stopped.
During the six months of genocidal war on Gaza, Israel has also systematically targeted schools.
According to the latest figures provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Education, at least 378 schools were destroyed and damaged in Gaza. Additionally, at least 4,327 students, 231 teachers and 94 professors were killed.
Fatima Muhammad told The Palestine Chronicle that she was shocked when she learned that Israel had completely destroyed her children’s school.
“My children, Muhammad and Ahmad, used to study at the Malaysian Quranic School, located north of the Nuseirat camp. But Israel bombed it and destroyed it, depriving my children of their place of learning,” she said.
…
“The truth is, the occupation aims to destroy all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip, to punish its residents for their refusal to migrate,” Abu al-Rous added.
“Also, by bombing schools, the occupation tries to deprive future generations of their right to education, but it will not succeed,” Abu al-Rous continued.
“We will teach our children in tents, under the sun, and anywhere else. We are determined to raise an educated and informed Palestinian generation, capable of resisting the occupation and exposing its crimes in all international forums.”
This is a great experiment in homeschooling. It’s better than the one carried out during the C19 hoax as that was conducted under a systemic plan and doomed to failure. This time, in Gaza, bright children are learning from caring adults, all of whom are interested in education. In the future, when the zionists are defeated, these children will use what they’ve learned to rebuild and better their society.

It’s too early, but it looks like Iran’s retaliatory strikes against the zionist entity were a measured response along the lines of their 2020 revenge attack against the GAE in Iraq. It appears they removed the air assets used in the zionist’s illegal consulate attack. Time and maybe satellite photos will tell. This saga, of course, might just be getting started.
Iran’s moves are defensive. But on the streets of Tehran, there is a palpable sense that Persia is fighting for the Palestinians. Right now, I’m working my way through Rev. Munther Isaac’s The Other Side Of The Wall, a must-read. He mentioned the Kairos Document, which I was unfamiliar with.
A moment of truth
A word of faith, hope and love from the heart of Palestinian suffering
Introduction
We, a group of Christian Palestinians, after prayer, reflection and an exchange of opinion, cry out from within the suffering in our country, under the Israeli occupation, with a cry of hope in the absence of all hope, a cry full of prayer and faith in a God ever vigilant, in God’s divine providence for all the inhabitants of this land. Inspired by the mystery of God’s love for all, the mystery of God’s divine presence in the history of all peoples and, in a particular way, in the history of our country, we proclaim our word based on our Christian faith and our sense of Palestinian belonging – a word of faith, hope and love.
Why now? Because today we have reached a dead end in the tragedy of the Palestinian people. The decision-makers content themselves with managing the crisis rather than committing themselves to the serious task of finding a way to resolve it. The hearts of the faithful are filled with pain and with questioning: What is the international community doing? What are the political leaders in Palestine, in Israel and in the Arab world doing? What is the Church doing? The problem is not just a political one. It is a policy in which human beings are destroyed, and this must be of concern to the Church.
We address ourselves to our brothers and sisters, members of our Churches in this land. We call out as Christians and as Palestinians to our religious and political leaders, to our Palestinian society and to the Israeli society, to the international community, and to our Christian brothers and sisters in the Churches around the world.
…
Read the whole thing. Remember this was published years before the current genocide started.
