In the excitement over the runup to Garfield’s birthday, I almost forgot.
Everyone is getting ready! Juneteenth-Amerikans are already celebrating in their own traditional ways.
And there’s yet another new holiday on the horizon: From this year on, Afghanistan will mark August 31 as Victory Day, heralding the 2021 defeat of the GAE. I’d say this portends well as an example for Americans, Southerners especially, but we’re not ready, are we?
Good jobs, dads. Enjoy our day!

What better present for dear old dad than to see his country slashed and stabbed (again) by the vibrant die-versity!
COPS have confirmed the Reading bloodbath which left three men dead and three others injured was a terror attack.
The suspect is understood to be 25-year-old Khairi Saadallah – a Libyan refugee who has been in and out of jail since coming to Britain several years ago.
Three dead. Terror. Refugee. Known to authorities. #KnifeControl. Blah, blah. WAKE UP!

Got a business? Ever get a (maybe undeserved) bad review? The owner of a diner in St. Pete got a little revenge – albeit after he closed it down:
I remember a bar where the owner used to try insulting everyone that walked in the door. Made him semi-famous and very popular. Maybe a little fire with fire is the way to combat the bad reviews. One notes from the TBT story that everyone loves a good review.
I have one:
If you’re in Greenville, SC, drop by and see the Pipers – down by the river, kind of in between the hotels and the trolls under the bridge (which, in retrospect, might have been ducks…). Fantastic art and! with even the smallest purchase, you get a glass of Chardonnay from the proprietor. At least I did; it really helped me through a hot afternoon of shopping and duck dodging.

Father’s Day originated in Fairmont, West Virginia, circa 1908. It was a memorial celebration for the 250 father’s killed the previous year in the Monongah Mining Disaster. Pastor Robert Thomas Webb provided the sermon which was sadly not preserved.
