Facebook = Child Slavery

All you Facebook child picture-posting attention whores are leaving money on the digital table. Who knew, but a photo or two of a (Nigerian) daughter can be worth $10,000, 3 Land Cruisers, and some cows.

OBANLIKU, Nigeria—Monica, 16, is one of two sisters sold as wives to men who found their photographs on their father’s Facebook page and contacted him. She and her 14-year-old younger sister never wanted to get married until they completed their secondary education in Ogbakoko, a small village in Obanliku Local Government Area in Nigeria’s south-central Cross River state. But the teenage sisters fell victims to a culture which subjects little girls, some as young as 10, to de facto slavery through a tradition called “money marriage.”

The sisters belong to the Becheve community, a large tribe of 17 villages in Obanliku where there is a long tradition in which young girls—often referred to as “money women” or “money wives”—are sold in exchange for food or livestock or cash, or to settle debts.

…

Spokespeople for Facebook, when contacted by The Daily Beast, were not familiar with the phenomenon as practiced in the Becheve community.

In other cultures where brides have been auctioned online, measures have been taken to stop the transactions.

Reports of Facebook being used as a tool to facilitate child marriage aren’t unique to Nigeria. Last November, the social media platform came under fire after posts discussing the sale of a 16-year-old girl in South Sudan. The victim was married in the process after her father, in exchange for his daughter, received 530 cows, three Land Cruiser V8 cars and $10,000. The teenager reportedly was bid on by five men, including senior officials in the South Sudanese government.

Best of all, with Farcebook serving as the broker, there’s no need for annoying calls or emails from “the Prince.”

I, for one, am deeply ashamed of Suckerberg for taking the ad down once it was brought to his people’s attention. That was a slap in the face to an age-old vibrant and diverse cultural tradition. Think of the tasty ethnic food. They could use this in Nashville.

Elsewhere, the Brits are crafting some of Zuckerborg’s regulations:

In a joint foreword, the home secretary, Sajid Javid, and the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, Jeremy Wright, say it is time to move beyond self-regulation and set clear standards, backed up by enforcement powers.

Companies will be asked to comply with a code of practice, setting out what steps they are taking to ensure that they meet the duty of care – including by designing products and platforms to make them safer, and pointing users who have suffered harm towards support.

The code of practice is also likely to include the steps companies will be expected to take to combat disinformation, including by using fact-checking services, particularly during election periods, and improving the transparency of political advertising.

Regulated firms will be expected to comply with the code of practice – or explain what other steps they are taking to meet the duty of care. However, many questions are left to the regulator to determine.

Theresa May has repeatedly raised the issue of online harm, and the government has gradually shifted its position, from favouring voluntary self-regulation to backing tougher enforcement.

This won’t bother Zuck. It won’t harm any backward future “refugees” and proposition “citizens.” It will be aimed at you. Censorship, taxes, maybe a social media user’s license – all possible. Then, sometime after they discover all the pictures you weren’t paid to post, your children may sue you for violating their privacy.

Delete your Facebook accounts today.

Facebook, getting what you paid for, spying

Again, that fun and FREE! social media thingy really isn’t either.

540 million Facebook user records compromised.

Researchers at the cybersecurity firm UpGuard on Wednesday said they had discovered the existence of two datasets together containing the personal data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users. Both were left publicly accessible.

In a blog post, UpGuard connected one of the leaky databases to a Mexico-based media company called Cultura Colectiva. The data set reportedly contains over 146 GB of data, which amounts to over 540 million Facebook user records, including comments, likes, reactions, account names, Facebook user IDs, and more.

Knowing what we know about Mr. Suckerberg, how likely is it that this data was custom picked and then sold? I’d say more likely than not.

Yet and still … people are on FB. The Headmaster over at TPC just admitted he’s thinking about “life after Facebook.” And, he’s a forward thinker of the bigger thoughts. I’m starting to think about life after the internet. In my dreams, I begin to envision life after electricity. Pleasant dreams too. It beats the reality of having your life show up on the auction block in Mexico.

Get. Out. Now.

Facebook, government, regulation, told you so, TPC, Zuckerberg

Zuck wants to protect you and your private data. Let that sink in. Come closer, little girl, I’ve got some candy… Of course, the only known way to protect people is through more and more government intrusion. Perish the thought that people could just, you know, stay off of known spy and misinformation sites.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Saturday called for governments to play a greater role in regulating the Internet, citing four areas where he believes better rules are needed.

Zuckerberg said new regulations are needed to protect society from harmful content, ensure election integrity, protect people’s privacy and to guarantee data portability.

Facebook has faced a torrent of public criticism over its handling of Russian intervention in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and its policies on hate speech that many governments and users consider too lax. At the same time, conservative lawmakers in the U.S. have accused Facebook of political bias and censorship.

Zuckerberg proposed regulating harmful content by setting up independent bodies to set standards for what is considered terrorist propaganda and hate speech and is therefore prohibited.

‘You don’t say much, do you? You stuck up or something?!’ And, Tar Book, she still ain’t say nothin’…

But, Br’er Lovett, he say plenty. From TPC, last April:

His other motive was the afore-mentioned collusion. A dirty little secret of the political world is that large corporations are absolutely head over heels in love with government regulation. State mandates price out competition, prevent startup challenges, foster monopolies, and raise profits. One of “your” political heroes hinted around this fact; Zuck nodded along sheepishly.

…

What we witnessed this week was the deprecation of freedom, free markets, and personal responsibility. Some would spread that spirit beyond the socials unto the whole internet. There’s the old adage about sacrificing essential liberty for false security. Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear will promise saaaaafety, all the while plotting to sacrifice Br’er Rabbit to the dinner pot. Help we could do without, that.

See? I. Told. You. So.

The weekly reason why no sane person should ever trust social media: Patients, health data experts accuse Facebook of exposing personal info:

A group of patients and health data experts is accusing Facebook of misleading users about how their personal health information can be manipulated and exposed without patients’ explicit permission.

In a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) complaint released publicly on Tuesday, the group alleges that Facebook prompts its users to join online medical support groups under the guise that they are “private” – but does not make clear that users could expose their health data when they join those groups.

Of course, why would anyone ever give Facebook sensitive health information otherwise protected by privacy law? (Why give them anything?) And, why the shock and horror when the Gangsters do the predictable?

At any rate, in their FTC Complaint, the “victims” play with fine calculations:

So says Parliament. Still glad you’re on Markie’s spy site?

Facebook labelled ‘digital gangsters’ by report on fake news

Facebook deliberately broke privacy and competition law and should urgently be subject to statutory regulation, according to a devastating parliamentary report denouncing the company and its executives as “digital gangsters”.

The final report of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee’s 18-month investigation into disinformation and fake news accused Facebook of purposefully obstructing its inquiry and failing to tackle attempts by Russia to manipulate elections.

“Democracy is at risk from the malicious and relentless targeting of citizens with disinformation and personalised ‘dark adverts’ from unidentifiable sources, delivered through the major social media platforms we use every day,” warned the committee’s chairman, Damian Collins.

The Report

“Companies like Facebook should not be allowed to behave like ‘digital gangsters’ in the online world, considering themselves to be ahead of and beyond the law. “

*May require the complete surrender of digital privacy, may be illegal

**May NOT be your actual friends…

What a deal for the younger peoples!

Desperate for data on its competitors, Facebook has been secretly paying people to install a “Facebook Research” VPN that lets the company suck in all of a user’s phone and web activity, similar to Facebook’s Onavo Protect app that Apple banned in June and that was removed in August. Facebook sidesteps the App Store and rewards teenagers and adults to download the Research app and give it root access to network traffic in what may be a violation of Apple policy so the social network can decrypt and analyze their phone activity, a TechCrunch investigation confirms.

Facebook admitted to TechCrunch it was running the Research program to gather data on usage habits.

Since 2016, Facebook has been paying users ages 13 to 35 up to $20 per month plus referral fees to sell their privacy by installing the iOS or Android “Facebook Research” app. Facebook even asked users to screenshot their Amazon order history page. The program is administered through beta testing services Applause, BetaBound and uTest to cloak Facebook’s involvement, and is referred to in some documentation as “Project Atlas” — a fitting name for Facebook’s effort to map new trends and rivals around the globe.

Shrug Atlas.

crime, evil, Facebook, fines

While you can. Before the FedGov drops the hammer on Farcebook.

U.S. regulators have met to discuss imposing a record-setting fine against Facebook for violating a legally binding agreement with the government to protect the privacy of its users’ personal data, according to three people familiar with the deliberations but not authorized to speak on the record.

The fine under consideration at the Federal Trade Commission, a privacy and security watchdog that began probing Facebook last year, would mark the first major punishment levied against Facebook in the United States since reports emerged in March that Cambridge Analytica, a political consultancy, accessed personal information on about 87 million Facebook users without their knowledge.

The penalty is expected to be much larger than the $22.5 million fine the agency imposed on Google in 2012. That fine set a record for the greatest penalty for violating an agreement with the FTC to improve its privacy practices.

It won’t fall that hard. A maxed-out fine, which this will not be, would be around $1 Trillion. That might be fitting if the victims were actually innocent – you knew something was up and you gave them the personal info anyway. The coming fine, even if record-setting, won’t be enough to rid us of the evil. By the way, you can always delete it yourself.

Why Was Franklin Graham on Farcebook in the First Place?

Graham is a good man. Farcebook is evil. It’s no surprise they booted him, temporarily, for telling the truth about Satanism and mental illness worship. And, their apology rings as hollow as their promises to protect user privacy.

Facebook is apologizing to evangelist Franklin Graham for banning him from posting on the site for 24 hours last week, a Facebook spokesperson told The Charlotte Observer on Saturday.

It was a mistake to ban Graham over a 2016 post he made on the site, and a mistake to have taken down the post, the spokesperson said.

Facebook has restored the 2016 post and will apologize in a note to the administrator of Graham’s Facebook page, according to the Facebook spokesperson, who agreed to speak only on background, meaning without the spokesperson’s name.

A member of Facebook’s content review team — the team has 15,000 members — had mistakenly decided the post violated Facebook’s policy that bans “dehumanizing language” and excluding people based on sexual orientation, race and other factors, according to the spokesperson and Facebook’s written policy.

With respect to Rev. Graham, the rule-making is no secret:

Well, now we know. Facebook has a secret rulebook for policing speech. I was banned from posting on Facebook last week for 24 hours. Why? Because of a post from back in 2016 about North Carolina’s House Bill 2 (the bathroom bill). Facebook said the post went against their “community standards on hate speech.” Facebook is trying to define truth. There was a character in a movie a few years back who said, “The truth is what I say it is!” That’s what Facebook is trying to do. They’re making the rules and changing the rules. Truth is truth. God made the rules and His Word is truth. Actually, Facebook is censoring free speech. The free exchange of ideas is part of our country’s DNA. …

– Graham

Use the enemy’s platform and accept their rules. To that end, a supporter sheepishly wondered: “[Kenan Lott]: Facebook has no right banning anything. If they keep it up someone will start a new better version for the people.” Actually, someone started another version and it was better. If you need social media – and I’m beginning to wonder why any of our People do – then try that site.

If you’re still using Farcebook, that is.

Take your pick of the (latest) warnings:

NYT Edition

WSJ Edition

These, in addition to 1,000 prior indications that maybe, just maybe, something is amiss with the granddaddy of the socials.

It has ceased to amaze me when people feign surprise that they “don’t see my posts on Facebook anymore.” No, idiot, you don’t.

If you’re looking for that perfect gift to yourself this Christmas, then consider ridding your life of the pure evil of this man:
