$900 Billion wasted. 147,000 dead. And, nothing to show. As I mentioned in my TPC column this week, the Taliban is winning, bigly.
Yet 18 years later, after the U.S. spent nearly $900 billion and more than 147,000 people died, the Taliban are growing more confident of returning to power. The militant group controls or contests half of the country, more territory than any time since they were toppled in 2001. And they’ve come close to a deal with the U.S. that could give them even more power, even after President Donald Trump abruptly put the talks on hold.
Well, thank God we have no domestic problems.
They Have been fighting since before Christ died so nothing is going to change that unless you kill them ALL
WE SOMEHOW DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT
Yeah, not the brightest move, even by DC standards. The war was never really about the war. The CIA had to control the flow of opium out of the region. Now, we have Purdue Pharma and a host of Asian knockoffs doing that sans the poppies. It’s pointless unless they now want to control the flow of those other local exports – dust, sand, and gravel. As part of the deal, the Taliban must allow us to deport all politicians and NOT-Americans to Afghanistan. (I have the feeling they could handle them more appropriately than we do).
